• SVN very slow over HTTP (seems auth related)

  I'm using SVN version 1.6.6 (r40053) via the command-line in Ubuntu 10.04 and connecting to a remote repository over HTTP that is in the local network. For a while, it worked fine, but has recently become very slow for any operation that requires communication with the repository, however it does eventually work after several minutes (~3m for svn up). Looking at Wireshark, it appears to be taking a full minute between the HTTP auth denied and the subsequent request containing credentials. The issue is local to my machine because other coworkers running Ubuntu are not having the issue and I've tried using my credentials from another machine and it was very fast. I tried deleting the .subversion folder in my home directory and checking everything out fresh, but it didn't help. Update: I think it's auth related. When I check out SVN repositories off of the Internet over HTTP (from Google Code, for example), everything is very fast until I do something that requires a password. Before prompting for the password for the first time, it stalls for at least a minute. Update 2: I set the neon-debug-mask in the SVN settings (in /etc/subversion/servers under [Global]) to 138 and it seems to spending a lot of time on 'auth: Trying Basic challenge...'

• How good is Dotfuscator Community Edition? What is "good enough obfuscator"?

  I plan to release one small, low priced utility. Since this is more hobby than business, I planned to use Dotfuscator Community Edition that is shipped with VS2008. How good is it? I could also use definition of "good enough obfuscator" - what features are missing from Dotfuscator Community Edition to make it good enough. Edit: I checked pricing on number of commercial obfuscators and they cost a lot. Is it worth it? Are commercial versions that much better protecting from reverse engineering? I'm not very afraid of my application being cracked (it will be disappointing if application is so bad that no one is interested in cracking it). It's not heavily protected anyway, not overly complex serial key and licence checks on few places in code. It just bugs me that without obfuscation, somebody can easily get source code, rebrand it and sell it as its own. Does this happens a lot? Edit 2: Can somebody recommend commercial obfuscator. I found lots of them, all of them are expensive, some even don't have price listed on web site. Feature wise, all products seem more or less similar. What is minimal set of features obfuscator should have?

  I have text files formatted as such: R156484COMP_004A7001_20100104_065119.txt I need to consistently extract the R****COMP, the 004A7001 number, 20100104 (date), and don't care about the 065119 number. the problem is that not ALL of the files being parsed have the exact naming convention. some may be like this: R168166CRIT_156B2075_SU2_20091223_123456.txt or R285476COMP_SU1_125A6025_20100407_123456.txt So how could I use regex instead of split to ensure I am always getting that serial (ex. 004A7001), the date (ex. 20100104), and the R****COMP (or CRIT)???   Hi, I am novice to the "World of cryptography". I started working with OPENSSL. I need some information and basically I do have some doubts. I have a DER format file. I read the file using following command, "openssl x509 -inform DER -in filename.der -text" I got what I supposed to be. Following things I wanted to know: 1. What is the difference between PKCS7, DER and X509 ? (My understanding is, DER is format, X509 is certificate, and PKCS7 is the standard) I wrote a test file which accepts the DER file and outputs the version, serial number, Subject, Validity date before and Validity date after, But I am unable to get certificate verified. Following is the API Used. int i = X509_verify(X509 *x509 , X509_get_pubkey(X509 *x509)); But 'i' value is 'i' < 0(zero) This is why I am getting "Signature verification problems". How to overcome this? In My test file I am unable to read the "Signature Algorithm", "Subject Public Key Info", "X509v3 extensions" and "-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----" to "-----END CERTIFICATE-----" Please give some inputs.   Hello, I have a grid (DevExpress XtraGrid, if that matters) which is bound to a LINQ to SQL Entity property. gridItems.DataSource = purchaseOrder.PendingItemsGrouped; Well, the grid is being displayed properly,and I can see the purchase items that are pending. The problem arises when purchaseOrder.PendingItemsGrouped gets changed ... once that happens, the grid does not reflect the changes. The exact procedure is as following: The user selects a row from the grid, inserts a serial number on a specific textbox, and then hits enter effectively receiving this item from the purchase order, and inserting it into stock. inventoryWorker.AddItemToStock( userSelectedItem, serialNumber ); The item gets properly inserted to the inventory, but the grid still shows the item as if it is still awaiting it to be received. How do I solve this problem? Do I really need to re-bind the grid so the changes can be reflected? I even tried instead of: gridItems.DataSource = ...; This: gridItems.DataBindings.Add( new Binding( "DataSource", purchase, "PendingItemsGrouped" ) ); But couldn't solve the problem.   The computer is connected to measuring device via a physical COM1. I have simple form where I open a serial port, tell the device that I'm alive and occasionally the device sends data. • PackageMaker install script for rxtx

  I am using PackageMaker to create an installer for my application. During installation I need to run a bash script to properly install rxtx, a JNI library for serial port communication. This library needs to have the directory /var/lock in place with user "root" and group "uucp". The installation script also needs to add the current user to the group "uucp" for the lib to be able to write to /var/lock. Now when I run my application installer the preinstall script is run as root. Therefore "whoami" returns root instead of the user who is actually running the installer. The result is that rxtx is not able to create lock files in /var/lock because the actual user was not added as a member to "uucp". How can I get the user while my script is run by the installer. Or is it better to set the permissions for /var/lock to a different group maybe? • Linux Kernel wait_for_completion_timeout not wakeup by complete

  I am working on a strange issue with the i2c-omap driver. I am not sure if the problem happens at other time or not, but it happens around 5% of the time I tried to power off the system. During system power off, I write to some registers in the PMIC via I2C. In i2c-omap.c, I can see that the calling thread is waiting on wait_for_completion_timeout with a timeout value set to 1 second. And I can see the IRQ called "complete" (I added printk AFTER "complete"). However, after "complete" gets called, the wait_for_completion_timeout did not return. Instead, it takes up to 5 MINUTES before it returns. And the return value of wait_for_completion_timeout is positive indicating that there is no timeout. And the whole I2C transaction was successful. In the meantime, I can see printk messages from other drivers. And the serial console still works. It is on Android, and if I use "top" I can see system_server is taking about 95% of the CPU. Killing system_server can make the wait_for_completion_timeout return immediately. So my question is what could a user space app (system_server) do to make a kernel "wait_for_completion_timeout" not being wake up? Thanks!

• Is it a good practice to suppress warnings?

  Sometimes while writing Java in Eclipse, I write code that generates warnings. A common one is this, which I get when extending the Exception class: public class NumberDivideException extends Exception { public NumberDivideException() { super("Illegal complex number operation!"); } public NumberDivideException(String s) { super(s); } } // end NumberDivideException The warning: The serializable class NumberDivideException does not declare a static final serialVersionUID field of type long. I know this warning is caused by my failure to... well, it says right above. I could solve it by including the serialVersionUID, but this is a one hour tiny assignment for school; I don't plan on serializing it anytime soon... The other option, of course, is to let Eclipse add @SuppressWarnings("serial"). But every time my mouse hovers over the Suppress option, I feel a little guilty. For programming in general, is it a good habit to suppress warnings? (Also, as a side question, is adding a "generated" serialVersionUID like serialVersionUID = -1049317663306637382L; the proper way to add a serialVersionUID, or do I have to determine the number some other way?)

• F# and .Net versions

  I'm writing a program in F# at the moment, which I specified in the Visual Studio project setup to target .Net 3.5, this being the highest offered, on the theory that I might as well get the best available. Then I tried just now running the compiled program on an XP box, not expecting it to work, but just to see what would happen. Unsurprisingly I just got an error message demanding an appropriate version of the framework, but surprisingly it wasn't 3.5 it demanded, but 2.0.50727. An additional puzzle is the version of MSBuild I'm using to compile the release version of the program, which I found in the framework 3.5 directory but claims to be framework 2.0 and build engine 3.5. I just guessed it was the right version of MSBuild to use because it seemed to correspond with the highest framework version F# seems to be able to target, but should I be using a different version? Anyone have any idea what's going on? I also can't figure how I could get serialnumber and backlightlevel to display on the click of a button or even at load. My attempts have thrown back errors like error: 'serialnumber' undeclared (first use in this function) and warnings like warning: 'return' with a value, in function returning void. • Looking for Hardware that will easily interface with my .NET code.

  I'm a .NET C# developer looking to do some hardware interfacing/programming. I just want something super simple to mess around with. I have done one of those basic stamp projects, but I want something with less electrical work. A self-contained piece of hardware would be fine. I'm not really looking to do embedded programming... but that would actually be pretty cool if something was capable of running .net code. I'm looking for something that would be easy to connect, hopefully via USB. Serial ports seems to be more hit or miss nowadays with laptops and netbooks. Something I can easily send data to, like a mini LCD, or series of LED's. Better yet would be something that provides feedback, like a temperature sensor. The best would be something more featured that I could talk to. I would be able to send data to it, and it would send back responses. Maybe something like a servo that could report it's position? Or maybe something that I could set parameters on? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

  Hi, So I'm having huge trouble with sinatra. The cronify method works. I tested it in irb. Also, the schedule instance method works, I tested it in the console. However, it doesn't work in the route, even though it works in the console. post '/add' do @something = Something.create(blah) #this works fine @something.schedule #this works fine in the console; not in the route. end I've tried everything, from @something.create(blah).schedule (which also works fine in the console, but not in the route), to defining the method cronify inside the sinatra helpers, and even calling cronify directly on the route. Nothing works on the route. What am I doing wrong?

• SSL certificate exception problem in Firefox

  Hi there, and thanks in advance for your help or any tip that could get me out of here. I work on a JEE app with a JBoss server and an Apache. I'm not really familiar with SSL connections and certificates, I understand the basic, but I have to deal with it. So on my local configuration (localhost) I have my connection certificate configured on JBoss and Apache, and a USER_DEV.P12 file, which I import in my certificates in Firefox. I have the same configuration on a distant test server (test-server), and a USER_TEST.P12 which I also import in Firefox. When I access https://localhost/ or https://test-server/ Firefox asks me to add an exception, which is normal. After that, I select the appropriated user certificate, and can use my application normally. But for the second (let's say https://test-server/), Firefox rises me a sec_error_reused_issuer_and_serial error. Of course I googled it and founded the Mozilla help, So when I delete the "server" in my certificate manager, I can access again my second domain, but the same problem occurs for the first one. To shorten the problem, my 2 client/server certificate couples are OK but I can't have 2 certificate exceptions at the same time in Firefox for my 2 different servers/users, even though the names, server address, and MD5 are different. I notified the serial is the same (01), but it's working on my colleague's computer. So am I doing something wrong? Do I have to deal with it manually each time (or with Firefox profiles)? • Regex to extract portions of file name

  I have text files formatted as such: R156484COMP_004A7001_20100104_065119.txt I need to consistently extract the R****COMP, the 004A7001 number, 20100104 (date), and don't care about the 065119 number. the problem is that not ALL of the files being parsed have the exact naming convention. some may be like this: R168166CRIT_156B2075_SU2_20091223_123456.txt or R285476COMP_SU1_125A6025_20100407_123456.txt So how could I use regex instead of split to ensure I am always getting that serial (ex. 004A7001), the date (ex. 20100104), and the R****COMP (or CRIT)???   Hello, With Android-Emulator I am not able to write/create a file on the SD Card (for logging). • java serialization problems with different JVMs

  I am having trouble using serialization in Java. I've searched the web for a solution but haven't found an answer yet. The problem is this - I have a Java library (I have the code and I export it to an archive prior to executing the code) which I need to use with two differents JVMs. One JVM is on the server (Ubuntu, running Java(TM) JRE SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_09-b05)) and the other on Android 2.3.3. I compiled the library in Java 1.6. Now, I am trying to import to the client, an object exported from the server, but I receive this error: java.io.InvalidClassException: [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;; Incompatible class (SUID): [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;: static final long serialVersionUID =-359311387972759020L; but expected [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;: static final long serialVersionUID =1920571045915494592L; I do have an explicit serial version UID declared on the class MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd, like this: protected class NeuralEnd extends NeuralConnection { private static final long serialVersionUID = 7305185603191183338L; } Where NeuralConnection implements the java.io.Serializable interface. If I do a serialver on MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd I receive the serialVersionUID which I declared. So, why have both JVMs changed this value? Can you help me? Thanks, Alberto

• Automatically add links to class source files under a specified directory of another project in Visu

  I want to share some class source files between two projects in Visual Studio 2008. I can't create a project for the common parts and reference it (see my comment if you are curious to why). I've managed to share some source files, but it could be a lot more neat. I've created a test solution called Commonality. The Solution Explorer of the Commonality solution which contains project One and Two: What I like: All class files under the Common folder of project One are automatically added to project Two by linking. It's mostly the same as if I would have chosen Add / Existing Item... : Add As Link on each new class source file. It's clear that these files have been linked in. The shortcut arrow symbol is marking each file icon. What I do not like: The file and folder tree structure under Common of project One isn't included. It's all flat. The linked source files are shown under the project root of project Two. It would look much less cluttered if they were located under Common like in project One. I simple steps i will try to explain my problem. 1) I am working on tinyOS . its open source OS , used for wireless sensor networks. It provides java libraries to work on communication (PC to sensor) 2) I am working on windows xp environment through cigwin. 3) I am developing an application . THis application requires one java interface called "Serial Forwarder" , which is readily available in libraries provided. Previously i used to start this interface manually (by entering command *"java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder ")*and then my application which uses this interface. But now i want to make my application independent . User need know about this background cygwin commands . 4) So in my java application i used "Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder)" . 5) This i neither giving any error nor starting the interface. Am I going on right way ? When i am using runtime execute command , how can i make sure that this command is called through cigwin interface ? Also .. if i want to write .bat file .. i which i can give commands which will be executed .. how can i make sure that those commands are given through cigwin .. and not through cmd.exe .. Please help . me .

  With parallelpython, I am trying to convert my old serial code to parallel, which heavily relies on objects that have methods that change that object's variables. A stripped example in which I omit the syntax in favor of simplicity: class Network: self.adjacency_matrix = [ ... ] self.state = [ ... ] self.equilibria = [ ... ] ... def populate_equilibria(self): # this function takes every possible value that self.state can be in # runs the boolean dynamical system # and writes an integer within self.equilibria for each self.state # doesn't return anything I call this method as: Code: j1 = jobserver.submit(net2.populate_equilibria,(),(),("numpy as num")) The job is sumbitted, and I know that a long computation takes place, so I speculate that my code is ran. The problem is, i am new to parallelpython , I was expecting that, when the method is called, the variable net2.equilibria would be written accordingly, and I would get a revised object (net2) . That is how my code works, independent objects with methods that act upon the object's variables. Rather, though the computation is apparent, and reasonably timed, the variable net2.equilibria remains unchanged. As if PP only takes the function and the object, computes it elsewhere, but never returns the object, so I am left with the old one. What do I miss? Thanks in advance.

• Is it possible to run my Windows Form application in Windows CE platform?

  I am new in Windows CE development and never done it yet. Need some advise from the expert in here. In our current project, we are developing a client-server application. The client side is using a windows form application that are base on Windows XP OS while the server is a web base application. This question are related to the client application (Windows Form). This application are using Sql Server Express Edition for data storage. The data is stored in XML object format. It also can transfer a data from client to server via web service. It also interact with hardware such as Magnetic Stripe Reader, Contactless Smart Card Reader, and a thermal printer. Most of the communication between hardware device and systems are base on Serial Port. It is use standard app.config for the configuration and is a multi threaded application. There is a new requirement to use a Handheld device which is use a Windows CE platform. This handheld included the required equipment such as Contactless Smart Card Reader, Printer and Magnetic Stripe Reader. Instead of developing a new client application, is it possible to me to convert my current application that are base on Windows XP to Windows CE? If yes, how can I do that? • Map element position in data file to class property

  I need to read/write files, following a format provided by a third party specification. The specification itself is pretty simple: it says the position and the size of the data that will be saved in the file. For example: Position Size Description -------------------------------------------------- 0001 10 Device serial number 0011 02 Hour 0013 02 Minute 0015 02 Second 0017 02 Day 0019 02 Month 0021 02 Year The list is very long, it has about 400 elements. But lots of them can be combined. For example, hour, minute, second, day, month and year can be combined in a single DateTime object. I've splitted the elements into about 4 categories, and created separeted classes for holding the data. So, instead of a big structure representing the data, I have some smaller classes. I've also created different classes for reading and writing the data. The problem is: how to map the positions in the file to the objects properties, so that I don't need to repeat the values in the reading/writing class? I could use some custom attributes and retrieve them via reflection. But since the code will be running on devices with small memory and processor, it would be nice to find another way. My current read code looks like this: public void Read() { DataFile dataFile = new DataFile(); // the arguments are: position, size dataFile.SerialNumber = ReadLong(1, 10); //... } Any ideas on this one? The problem is that we want it to be run in a different thread.
