• Convert byte array from Oracle RAW to System.Guid?

  My app interacts with both Oracle and SQL Server databases using a custom data access layer written in ADO.NET using DataReaders. Right now I'm having a problem with the conversion between GUIDs (which we use for primary keys) and the Oracle RAW datatype. Inserts into oracle are fine (I just use the ToByteArray() method on System.Guid). The problem is converting back to System.Guid when I load records from the database. Currently, I'm using the byte array I get from ADO.NET to pass into the constructor for System.Guid. This appears to be working, but the Guids that appear in the database do not correspond to the Guids I'm generating in this manner. I can't change the database schema or the query (since it's reused for SQL Server). I need code to convert the byte array from Oracle into the correct Guid.

Definitely, it could be solved, but I am interested on other options. My main issues is cost of updating all necessary indexes, to make reading fast. First, is cassandra is good way for asp.net programmers? • Interpolating Large Datasets On the Fly

  Interpolating Large Datasets I have a large data set of about 0.5million records representing the exchange rate between the USD / GBP over the course of a given day. I have an application that wants to be able to graph this data or maybe a subset. For obvious reasons I do not want to plot 0.5 million points on my graph. What I need is a smaller data set (100 points or so) which accurately (as possible) represents the given data. Does anyone know of any interesting and performant ways this data can be achieved? • Patterns for implementing field change tracking.

  Hi all For one of my recent projects, I had to implement field change tracking. So anytime the user changed a value of a field, the change was recorded in order to allow full auditing of changes. In the database, I implemented this as a single table 'FieldChanges' with the following fields: TableName, FieldName, RecordId, DateOfChange, ChangedBy, IntValue, TextValue, DateTimeValue, BoolValue. The sproc saving changes to an object determines for each field whether it has been changed and inserts a record into FieldChanges if it has: if the type of the changed field is int, it records it in the IntValue field in the FieldChanges table, etc. This means that for any field in any table with any id value, I can query the FieldChanges table to get a list of changes. This works quite well but is a bit clumsy. Can anyone else who has implemented similar functionality suggest a better approach, and why they think it's better? I'd be really interested - thanks. • CakePHP: shortcomings with indirectly associated models

  I'm having some issues with dealing with indirectly associated models in cakephp. My current model setup is as follows: Deliveries hasOne License License belongsTo Delivery License hasAndBelongsToMany Product (and vice-versa) License hasAndBelongsToMany ProductOption (and vice-versa) I'm trying to save information about ALL of these models inside ONE form. The shortcomings I'm running into are the following: The form helper only seems able to see the field type one level deep. saveAll() only seems able to save records one level deep (for multiple model forms). I'm searching everywhere for the solutions to these issues, but since I'm new to CakePHP, I'm not sure what the newest methods or "correct" methods are for dealing with these issues. • De-dupe a list of hundreds of thousands of first name/last name/address/date of birth

  I have a large data set which I know contains many dupicate records. Basically I have data on first name, last name, different address components and date of birth. I think the best way to do this is to use the name and date of birth as chances are if these things match, it's the same person. There are probably lots of instances where there are slight differences in spelling (like typos missing a single letter) or use of name (ie: some might have a middle initial in first name column) which would be good to account for, but I'm not sure how to approach this. Are there any tools or articles on going about this process? The data is all in a MySQL database and I have a basic proficiency in SQL.

• Is PHP serialize function compatible UTF-8 ?

  I have a site I want to migrate from ISO to UTF-8. I have a record in database indexed by the following primary key : s:22:"Informations générales"; The problem is, now (with UTF-8), when I serialize the string, I get : s:24:"Informations générales"; (notice the size of the string is now the number of bytes, not string length) So this is not compatible with non-utf8 previous records ! Did I do something wrong ? How could I fix this ? Thanks

I've looked at various examples and answers but they seem to create duplicate rows or require indexes (merge on datatable etc) I can't do this via SQL as one source is from a linked Oracle server accessed via MSSQL and the other from a different MSSQL Server that does not have linked access. My question: i want to design a database, that will be used for a production facility of different types of products where each product has its own (number of) parameters. because i want the serial numbers to be in one tabel for overview purposes i have a problem with these different paraeters . One solution could be EAV, but it has its downsides, certainly because we have +- 5 products with every product +- 20.000 serial numbers (records). it looks a bit overkill to me... I just don't know how one could design a database so that you have an attribute in a mastertable that says: 'hey, you could find details of this record in THAT detail-table". 'in a way that you qould easely query the results) currenty i am using Visual Basic & Acces 2007. but i'm going to Visual Basic & MySQL. thanks for your help. Bob

  First, I did do my homework searching before posting here. My requirement seems to be slightly different compared to questions posted out there. I have a matrix like ArrayList<ArrayList<Integer>> in the following form | id1 | id2 | score | |-----|-----|-------| | 1 | 3 | 95% | | 1 | 2 | 100% | | 1 | 4 | 85% | | 1 | 5 | 95% | | 2 | 10 | 80% | | 2 | 15 | 99% | I want to sort the matrix column-wise (first using score, then the id1). I already have the id1 in a sorted manner. That means I also need to sort all records with the same id1 first by using score, second by the id2. The reason for doing this is to create a ranking of the id2 in each id1. The result for the above example would be: | q_id | d_id | rank | score | |------|------|------|-------| | 1 | 2 | 1 | 100% | | 1 | 3 | 2 | 95% | | 1 | 5 | 3 | 95% | | 1 | 4 | 4 | 85% | | 2 | 15 | 1 | 99% | | 2 | 10 | 2 | 80% | How can I achieve this in Java using some built-in methods of collections?

  hi guyz; i am using netbeans6.7.1 and phpmyadmin for my db to develop a java application to manage students records i want to upload students photos through browsing by clicking a browse buton which i have included in my interface I mean when i click on that button a JFilechooser pops up which filter only images(i have acomplished this) 1.) what i need is when i click on the "Attach button" of the JFilechooser, i want the image i chose to be attached to a jtextArea on the form i'm working with and the JFilechooser be diposed off. 2.) I want to fetch some records from database i.e. select * from tblDepartment where department_id in ( select department_id from tblMap where Guest_Id = @GuestId ) I have taken two DataTable. i.e. tblDepartment, tblMap Now I want to fetch this result and want to store it in third DataTable. How can I do this. I have been able to construct this query up till now after googling. var query = from myrow in _dtDepartment.AsEnumerable() where myrow.Field<int>("Department_Id") == _departmentId select myrow; Please provide me some link for learning Linq mainly for DataTables and DataSets. • Alternative to distributed caching

  Hi, There is a technical requirement to scale a new system easily. This new system consists of three tiered applications (as a batch processors). Each tier will contains at least 2 servers with the same application resides on each server. So, when one of the tier reaches peak performance, we could extend the scalability easily by adding a new server and the same application to off-load some of the processing loads. The problem is that one or two of the three tiers require heavy caching (about 3 million records and increasing). I'm thinking of using distributed caching system to overcome this problem but the new distributed caching system will means an additional point of failure as applications now need to interact with additional caching systems for processing. I'm currently looking at ncache but just wondering if there is an alternatives to this problem? or is there any other comparable distributed caching system that maybe similar or better than ncache and provide enterprise supports too?   Hi There, I have a simple form in codeigniter that I wish to use for the editing or records. I am at the stage where my form is displayed and the values entered into the corresponding input boxes. This is done by simply setting the values of said boxes to whatever they need to be in the view: <input type="text" value="<?php echo $article['short_desc'];?>" name="short_desc" /> But, if I wish to use form_validation in codeigniter then I have to add thos code to my mark-up: <input value="<?php echo set_value('short_desc')?>" type="text" name="short_desc" /> So not the value can be set with the set_value function should it need to be repopulated on error from the post data. Is there a way to combine the two so that my edit form can show the values to be edited but also re-populate? Thanks

I assume Linq doesn't pre-compile (unless you create a customized delegate and function), so you should be able to dynamically specify which fields you want to filter. It would be nice if you could do something like e["Salary"] like some type of Expando Object.

Google yielded a few results in antique Java and Python, but no modern implementations. I am curious if I have to write my own parser. Do you know of a modern implementation in C# or Java? In case there really are no parsers available, how should I implement one? Are there general guidelines or tools (in a C# environment) I should know of? • OpenDataSource fails pls help

  I'm trying export records from SQL Server 2008 to mdb file using OpenDataSource. It works when I log in using Windows authentication. But it fails when I use SQL Server authentication. This is the error i get OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)" returned message "Could not delete from specified tables.". Msg 7320, Level 16, State 2, Procedure EXPORT_Employee, Line 110 Cannot execute the query "DELETE FROM employee_export " against OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)". However, when I schedule a simple job in instance1, it is getting triggered in instance2 (and vise versa). By looking at the records created in jobstore, the scheduled job are properly tagged with the expected instanceIDs. Any idea of why this is happening?

  I have avoided working with fetchxml as I have been unsure the best way to handle the result data after calling crmService.Fetch(fetchXml). Applications such as passing these records into an ASP.NET datagrid would be quite useful.

  If I have the following master-detail relationship: owner_tbl auto_tbl --------- -------- owner --- owner auto year And I have the following table data: owner_tbl auto_tbl --------- -------- john john, corvette, 1968 john, prius, 2008 james james, f-150, 2004 james, cadillac, 2002 james, accord, 2009 jeff jeff, tesla, 2010 jeff, hyundai, 1996 Now, I want to perform a query that returns the following result: john, corvette, 1968 jeff, hyundai, 1996 james, cadillac, 2002 The query should join the two tables, and sort all the records on the "year" field, but only return the first detail record for each master record. I know how to join the tables and sort on the "year" field, but it's not clear how (or if) I might be able to only retrieve the first joined record for each owner. Three related questions: Can I perform this kind of query using LINQ-to-SQL? Can I perform the query using T-SQL? Would it be best to just create a stored procedure for the query given its likely complexity?
