How to dynamically insert a keyword in an Amazon Search Widget

Through Amazon Associates, you can create search widgets that have a place for a search term. In the admin, you can set the default search term, but that seems to be tied to the widget ID. I would like to be able to dynamically set the search term for the widget when it is displayed. How can I accomplish this? Is the Google Webmaster Tools verification temporary?

When you add a site to Google Webmaster Tools, it asks you to verify it (e.g. via a <meta> tag). I verified a site a while ago, but when I logged in, I noticed that it isn't verified anymore. The history shows that it was verified 58 days ago, but then 30 days ago it tried and failed saying that "revierification failed". I'm not sure if this is a result of some setting I changed which required a reverification, or if Google Webmaster Tools periodically tries to verify the site. I was under the impression that the verification only happens once when you add the site, and then you can delete the <meta> tag. If this is not how it works, and it does reverify periodically, will it require a different <meta> tag value or can I keep the original one I used and never have to worry about it again?

How to ignore certain coding standard errors in PHP CodeSniffer

We have a PHP 5 web application and we're currently evaluating PHP CodeSniffer in order to decide whether forcing code standards improves code quality without causing too much of a headache. If it seems good we will add a SVN pre-commit hook to ensure all new files committed on the dev branch are free from coding standard smells. Is there a way to configure PHP codeSniffer to ignore a particular type of error? or get it to treat a certain error as a warning instead? "Email This" button with sideways counter

I've been asked to build a design that has a "share this" area like below: I've built every aspect except the Email part of it -- any idea how best to do that? I've found http://getmailcounter.com/, but that displays a counter above. I'd personally just do a link, but it seems they're wanting some sort of analytics built in... Failing that, does anyone know of some sort of sharing system that looks like that and has all of those options? I'd just use AddThis, but its designs don't look very close to that... Thanks! Facebook connect And Yahoo.. How and what exactly happened? Is there way to import facebook friend's email id?

Hello, I have seen that yahoo now enables their users to import facebook friend's email addresses into their yahoo addressbook. As far as i know, facebook doesn't allow any API to fetch email addresses of any user on external websites. I have also seen that Yahoo imports email addresses only when the friend's have chosen not to display their contact email to themselves only. Many people in the world trying to implement applications using facebook's API to import email addresses of friend's (Only those email addresses which are visible on user's facebook profile) but API calls always return NULL to their requests. So i would like to know what exactly happened between facebook and yahoo? Does facebook have provided any concessions to Yahoo's addressbook importer application to import facebook user's email addresses? Is there any working API/method/way available to fetch email addresses of facebook friends who have chosen to display their contact email ids on their profile with 1: only visible to friends, 2: visible to everyone privacy settings? I have also seen that, facebook API page clearly listen that email/contact_email field's can be fetched using FQL. Nevertheless there is no official explanation on this issue of returning NULL when email/contact_email is requested from any API call. Regards

Download Speed is 0.12 Mbps when tested with servers in U.S, but it is 0.76 Mbps when tested with local servers, normal? [closed]

Feeling that my ISP is cheating my money ( My subscription package is 1 Mbps), I did a speed test on my internet connection using www.speedtest.net. I tried to test the connection speed on two servers, one local ( Malaysia), another in U.S. I found that while the upload speed remain constant, but the download speed is different; 0.76 Mbps for servers in Malaysia, and 0.12 Mbps for servers in U.S. I called the ISP, and they blamed it on the intercontinental signal lost. But how can it be that the speed differs by that much? If it really differs by that much than we should always take a grain of salt of what is advertised as the broadband speed because the advertised speed is not the speed we are getting. No?

Under an Xampp install, I modify the apache httpd-vhosts.conf file and then my Apache server will not start

I have read all the articles but still must be doing something wrong... I modified the httpd-vhosts.conf file to access the project I am working on... I have tried many different configurations and none work. My apache service will not start (I am on Windows 7)... any ideas would be helpful - here is the code I added to the conf file: DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs" ServerName localhost DocumentRoot C:/xampp/htdocs/socengv1" ServerName socengv1.local I have also tried this with NameVirtualHost *:80 command with no difference to note.

Rich text format area size in SDL Tridion 2011 SP1

I've set a schema field to height 2 and see the following for the input area in Chrome and IE. I'm expecting to have text area that's 2 lines high based on the default text size. I removed the source view option, thinking the tab might affect the size, but it still appears to be about 5 lines in height instead of 2. It seems to match 2 lines if the text is set to a large font or to a heading. I'd like to minimize the size these fields take in the content entry form as well as hint that authors should enter a smaller amount of text. How do I make this match the expected 2 lines?

Is Google showing ads from other companies or WordPress plugin is injecting ads which are not mine?

I am using WordPress for managing my blog sort of website, and I am using an Ad Injection plugin to place my ads where I want in a post. Plugin seems very good but I saw some ads which were not from ads networks which I was using. Robots.txt never downloaded but some blocked URLs in GWT

There is something I don't understand in Google Webmaster Tools (GWT) for my Wordpress site. In menu "Blocked URLs", it mention that my robots.txt has never been downloaded but there are some blocked URLs. It's kind of weird and not logical. Am i missing something? I am starting to think about how the accompanying website will be hosted and would greatly appreciate some advice. Requirements: Domain #1 Information about the project itself (just pages and pictures). Documentation / Wiki Forums Download of project source (approx 3MB archive) Download of various themes and community contributed content (est. sizes 10KB ~ 512KB). Domain #2 Primary company website that offers products and services. This will be primarily pictures and pages. What kind of web hosting would be best for a project like this. I am working on a very tight budget and can only afford to spend up to £250 per year for hosting this. I was considering using some sort of VPS hosting. force users to activate account before using service?

i am not sure if this is the correct SE site to post this, but ill go on... So at the moment i force my users to activate their account upon registration if they want to sign in. I see some decent sites let their users sign in and use their features even their account is not activated and just show a message on top of the page letting them know that their account is not yet activated and that you need to activate it. So which practice is best? Should i stick with that i have or change it?

Website still blocked after hack

I have manages to redo the website with custom codes (php/mysql), but it still some visitors still complain that their AV blocks them from viewing the website. I have also cleared the former database and anything related to it, contents and the likes. I'm kind of stuck at this part and was hoping that I'd get some assistance. I'm building a highscores page in PHP, that's going great, it works. However, I dislike the idea of index.php?skill=name and therefore wanted a bit of SEO in this. I have successfully replaced the url with a more friendly version: highscores/skill/name And this is where the problem starts, I have added pagination to the highscores and the page is read from the HTTP_GET page variable ($_GET['page']). I dislike the idea of highscores/skill/name&page=2 and was hoping if you guys could assist me to make the url like the following: Page 1, so accessing the file without declaring the page number: DOMAIN.TLD/highscores/skill/name Page 1 so now the page variable is needed: DOMAIN.TLD/highscores/skill/name/2 As you can tell the "2" will define page 2 and load the correct data for page 2. However, I'm having much trouble in my .htaccess file to configure it this way. RewriteRule ^highscores\/skill\/(.*?)(\/(.*?)*)$ highscores/skills.php?skill=$1&page=$2 [L] # Skills page That is my latest attempt in order to get it to work, unfortunately it does not work, it makes the page look horrible (CSS doesn't work) and it doesn't go to the page specified on the URL.

Attach a Wordpress.org blog to my BigCommerce Store as a sub-domain

I am stuck in a peculiar situation. I have a store on BigCommerce configured with a domain from GoDaddy (mystore.com). I recently created a custom wordpress blog and hosted it on 1and1 hosting (s418783372.onlinehome.us), since bigcommerce can't host Wordpress. Now, I want to use it from a sub-domain of my main-bigcommerece store (models.mystore.com), but it doesn't seem to be working since BigCommerce is the Domain Manager, but GoDaddy is the Domain-Registrar and 1and1 is the host so it doesn't control the domain. I have tried setting up a CNAME record on BigCommerece and when it didn't work asked BigCommerece about it, but they said they can't do anything about it since they aren't the domain registrar and gave me a message saying: The responsiblity to show the name in the browser on the site is up to the server or site admin. The Cname can only get the browser there UPDATE: I succeeded in setting up a CNAME on BigCommerce poinitng to the site at 1and1, but for some-reason, all it gives me is a 404-Not-Found error. I was thinking this is due to a restriction on 1and1, any idea on how to overcome that? Not Found The requested URL / was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I tried adding a domain on the 1and1 control panel (http://faq.1and1.co.uk/domains/domain_xfers/dns_transfer/4.html), pointing to models.mystore.com, but it isn't letting me add a Sub-Domain, there... UPDATE: I added mystore.com as an external domain and them added models.mystore.com as a sub-domain on the 1and1 hosting Domains panel. And it works :) Thank you all

DNS hijack - prevention tips

Hi there, Over the weekend it looks like the DNS was hijacked on two of my domains. My set up is I have the sites registered on 1and1.co.uk, with dns nameservers pointing to Hostgator in the US where the sites are hosted. I also had cloudflare CDN running on the sites (via hostgator cpanel). My question is any ideas as to how this happened, and how I could either monitor it so I know if it occurs again, or strengthen the set up/service to minimise the risk. History: I received a ping from my site monitoring service that the sites were down. When I checked the sites were up so I assumed it was local to the monitoring service I received a ping last night the sites were up When I checked, one site was redirecting to download-manual.com (and checking that URL now, the home page is not the same as the one I saw, so they too may have been hijacked/hacked) The other site URL remained the same but had one of those standard site search pages which bounce you off to either phishing or paid for search sites I notified Hostgator who told me Cloudflare or 1and1 were the issue. I removed cloudflare, and contacted both them and hostgator, and am awaiting a response, but am not holding my breath. Is this common? I've never heard of this or come across this before. It's pretty scary that this can happen so easily. Appreciate any input. **Update: I've now spoken to support at 1and1, Hostgator, and Cloudflare, and each one claims it has nothing to do with them, and must be one of the others. Larry, curly, moe.

Password-free logins using your email address only?

The state of logins is horrendous. With each site having it's own rules for passwords, it can be very hard to remember what variation you used on any given site. Logins are pure pain. One thing I love about Craigslist is that it did away with logins altogether. I know this design may not suit every site, but there's something to their design that beckons to be repeated. OpenID is great on sites that have adopted it, but it's still not standard. Would it be feasible/wise to use an email address as a login and provide no password? The site would send a short-term key directly to your email address. You click on the link and you're in. When you're done, you "logout" and your key is terminated. I've toyed with this idea before. What concerns (i.e. spammers, bots, etc.) would make this impractical or unsafe and could they be overcome?

How can I show ads for search on own web site

On my web site there is a (self-coded) search functionality that searches through the web site's specific contents. However I'd like to display one banner in addition to the site's results, showing ads relevant to the entered search terms. Can I do this e.g. with Google Ads? I want the ads to be based only on the search terms from the user, not the rest of the site's content, so there has to be a possibility to pass these search terms to the ad provider and get a banner based on these search terms.

Google Webmaster Tools Index Status is 0 but sitemap URL shows indexed

I've added my site to Google Webmaster tools www.medexpress.co.uk. The site was submitted a few weeks ago. The index status shows 0 but it shows 6 URLs have been indexed in the sitemaps section. If I search in google I can see that the site is indexed and several pages appear: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Awww.medexpress.co.uk&oq=site%3Awww.medexpress.co.uk&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 My question is why is the index status 0 when the sitemap section shows several indexed pages and also the pages appear in the search engine.

How do i make/setup a mailing list?

I know i could program it myself but maybe there is a simple (thats the keyword) package. I like to add a box, snippet, form or page to my site for users to input their email address. Then i'd like it to automatically send email saying you have successfully subscribe. I'd want an unsubscribe link and i would be using smtp on google apps. I would like to send email with html so i can have a simple sentence with a complex link such as this I dont know if i'll get marked as spam if i try to send everyone an email at once? so i'd like the software to manage it. Also i'd like to get the emails in a simple format like csv. Is there a simple app that does this? if not i can write a simple form which does a simple insert (or delete when unsubscribing) and write a 200-300line app to send my emails out for me.

Display comments from a Facebook page link on my site's post page

Lately, I've noticed the whole discussion is happening on Facebook, with comments there being way bigger in numbers than on my page. I notice FB has a Social Comments plugin. I was wondering if there was a way to embed comments from my Facebook fan page for a specific link with that plugin or any way otherwise?

Google Site Search -- How to use as API?

I am trying to get an API that I can use to do searches on my own site. Google has something called site search and something called custom search. What is the difference? I make a new site search, then it is listed on a page with "custom search" in the heading. This is really confusing. I just want an API that I can use to search my site. I would prefer json to xml as the results. And if this service is offered by someone other than Google, that is fine too. The ones that I create at Google want me to embed a premade search box into my site. I do not want that, I want an API that I can call from PHP or JS. How can I get this?

How should one refer to their social network profiles in prints?

In case a person has many different social network profiles, what is the proper way of referring to those profiles in a work that is meant to be printed or may be viewed as an image? For example one owns the username "CoolCompany" on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other websites. Should they provide a URL for each profile? for example: Facebook.com/CoolCompany Twitter.com/CoolCompany ... I often notice that in videos or on TV people may only use the logos but I believe it is not very useful, specially in case that the audience are unfamiliar with a social network...
