  • JRuby on Rails deployment

    I need to host a JRuby on Rails app on Mongrel. The problem is that I need to support mutual authentication. I know that I could just host it behind a Apache with mod_proxy use mod_ssl to pass the cred or part of the cred as a request header to rails. But I want the whole stack to be Java. Is there a Java application server that can do mod_proxy + ssl kind of configuration without me having to install Apache. Also, we need this to be platform independent. IIS or Apache+OpenSSL is actually not a preferred alternative. Any alternative deployment configurations are also welcome.

I've tried removing the +followSymlinks line, even the rewrite engine line. I haven't tried removing the conditions cause I don't think I should have to, I'm probably wrong.

  • How to create a web framework in C# without ASP?

    I've managed to get a C# asp page running under ubuntu/apache/mono, but I don't want to write my framework in these ASP pages, I want to use straight C# and then I'll use a templating language for my views. But I don't know where to begin? C# is a compiled language, so... how would I do this? Would I compile everything and then have apache hook into the (single) executable and pass in the the request URL? Could I request specific .cs pages and then have apache tell it to compile and then "display" it only if it's been updated? Can the "view" files be compiled individually to avoid having to recompile everything every time there's a change? Is there some "base" I can work from, or am I going to have to reinvent accessing GET and POST variables (by reading header info) and all sorts of other stuff we take for granted in languages like PHP?

    I'm running apache with a worker MPM and php with fastcgi. the following are my mpm limits: StartServers 5 MinSpareThreads 5 MaxSpareThreads 10 ThreadLimit 64 ThreadsPerChild 10 MaxClients 10 MaxRequestsPerChild 2000 I've also setup my php-cgi with the following: PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=5 PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS=500 I'm noticing that my average php-cgi process is using around 200+mb of RAM, even as soon as they are started. However, my php memory_limit is only 128M. How is this possible, and what can I do to lower the php-cgi memory consumption?

  • How do you configure apache2 to serve SVG files?

    I've added these lines to /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: AddEncoding gzip .svgz AddType image/svg+xml .svg AddType image/svg+xml .svgz But SVG files still appear as broken images on my html page served by Apache. I made sure I restarted the webserver, browser and cleared the cache as well. How do you get SVG files to work with Apache2?

    Anybody knows how asp.net/mono performance is on Linux ? I mean, which server gives you the best performance/delivery time (Apache/Apache2, xsp2, lighthttp, nginx, other) ? Since all asp.net goes via xsp2, I'd say xsp2 would certainly be fastest, but it's probably missing a lot of features, which lighthttp offers (e.g. mod_dosevasive, URL-rewriting, etc.).

  • How Do I Restrict Repository Access via WebSVN?

    I have multiple subversion repositories which are served up through Apache 2.2 and WebDAV. They are all located in a central place, and I used this debian-administration.org article as the basis (I dropped the use of the database authentication for a simple htpasswd file though). Since then, I have also started using WebSVN. My issue is that not all users on the system should be able to access the different repositories, and the default setup of WebSVN is to allow anyone who can authenticate. According to the WebSVN documentation, the best way around this is to use subversion's path access system, so I looked to create this, using the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive. When I do this though, I keep getting "403 Forbidden" messages. My files look like the following: I have default policy settings in a file: <Location /svn/> DAV svn SVNParentPath /var/lib/svn/repository Order deny,allow Deny from all </Location> Each repository gets a policy file like below: <Location /svn/sysadmin/> Include /var/lib/svn/conf/default_auth.conf AuthName "Repository for sysadmin" require user joebloggs jimsmith mickmurphy </Location> The default_auth.conf file contains this: SVNParentPath /var/lib/svn/repository AuthType basic AuthUserFile /var/lib/svn/conf/.dav_svn.passwd AuthzSVNAccessFile /var/lib/svn/conf/svnaccess.conf I am not fully sure why I need the second SVNParentPath in default_auth.conf, but I just added that today as I was getting error messages as a result of adding the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive. With a totally permissive access file [/] joebloggs = rw the system worked fine (and was essentially unchanged), but as I soon as I start trying to add any kind of restrictions such as [sysadmin:/] joebloggs = rw instead, I get the 'Permission denied' errors again. The log file entries are: [Thu May 28 10:40:17 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'joebloggs' GET websvn:/ [Thu May 28 10:40:20 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'joebloggs' GET svn:/sysadmin What do I need to do to get this to work? Have configured apache wrong, or is my understanding of the svnaccess.conf file incorrect? If I am going about this the wrong way, I have no particular attachment to my overall approach, so feel free to offer alternatives as well. UPDATE (20090528-1600): I attempted to implement this answer, but I still cannot get it to work properly. I know most of the configuration is correct, as I have added [/] joebloggs = rw at the start and 'joebloggs' then has all the correct access. When I try to go repository-specific though, doing something like [/] joebloggs = rw [sysadmin:/] mickmurphy = rw then I got a permission denied error for mickmurphy (joebloggs still works), with an error similar to what I already had previously [Thu May 28 10:40:20 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'mickmurphy' GET svn:/sysadmin Also, I forgot to explain previously that all my repositories are underneath /var/lib/svn/repository UPDATE (20090529-1245): Still no luck getting this to work, but all the signs seem to be pointing to the issue being with path-access control in subversion not working properly.   • Good Free Ubuntu Server VMWare Image Needed

    Can anyone recommend a good, free Ubuntu Server VMWare Image (or Virtual Appliance, as they call them)? I have looked on the VMWare VAM and there are literally hundreds to choose from. I am looking for something that can with very minimal effort serve as a development platform for LAMP applications (so it should have all of those installed, plus things like PhpMyAdmin). Bonus points if there is some way to create new Virtual Hosts (for developing and testing new sites) on Apache without having to go digging around conf files and guessing on the sytax.

    I'm trying to capture all of the traffic to and from an Apache2 web server for troubleshooting purposes, so I did the following to try to set mod_dumpio up properly: Used a2enmod to enable mod_dumpio Changed LogLevel to "debug" in apache2.config Added "DumpIOInput On", "DumpIOOutput On" and "DumpIOLogLevel debug" to apache2.config Issued "/etc/init.d/apache2 restart" to restart Apache Issued "apache2ctl -t -D DUMP_MODULES" to make sure mod_dumpio was loaded I'm watching /var/log/apache2/error.log, but not seeing much there, and certainly not a dump of all input and output. Can anyone help?

I'm trying to get httpd to reload its configuration; Apache's Windows docs suggest httpd -k restart from any console window. When I do that, I get PS C:\apache\bin> .\httpd.exe -k restart [Mon Oct 29 14:06:56 2012] [error] (OS 2)The system cannot find the file specified. : No installed service named "Apache2.2". How do I convince it Apache's not running as a service?

I do not want to use Server Name Indication (SNI) as described here, and I'm only concerned with the important top-level Apache directives.
