  • Windows 7 boot from downloaded .iso

    Downloaded Windows 7 .iso off the net and want to install from USB key on old laptop (previously/still running XP) that has no CD/DVD drive. Here's what I've got so far: Read the instructions in this post: http://kmwoley.com/blog/?p=345 , which were quite straight forward and clear. Properly formatted USB key with another laptop (this one running vista), also with no DVD drive wasn't sure how to make the USB bootable, since my .iso was downloaded and I have no DVD drive. Any help would be much appreciated!!

    Im Running on Centos, the trouble is when i restart my server i need to start my apache and varnish service I use this to start both of them service httpd restart && service varnish restart But i would likw both of them to start when i reboot the server I read i could use this chkconfig httpd on But this is only for apache could i do this chkconfig varnish on Finally when i do y usual start of httpd , i am asked for my api key for SSL , am i able to incorporate this into resarting both varnish and httpd on start up. Or am i doomed to run this command everytime i resart

  • iBook G4 has black screen on boot

    I have an old iBook G4 (A1054, 1.2 GHz) which has issues when it loses power or is shut off. If the battery drains—which happens quickly, as its remaining capacity is very low—it enters some sort of weird mode where it's not really awake (the screen is black, can't do anything) but it has no pulsing light indicating it's asleep either. The only way to exit this mode is to hold down the power button for ten seconds until it shuts off, and attempt rebooting it. Almost always, however, it makes the sound of the optical drive starting up, and then doesn't continue past that point. The screen doesn't come on, and things like resetting PRAM don't work. Occasionally a fan comes on loudly for a second or two. This sometimes seems to correspond with my pressing down on the rear-right casing, above the power jack. In the past, shutting it off, disconnecting it from power, removing the battery and waiting for 30 minutes would do the trick, but this time I have done that several times, letting it sit for up to several hours before retrying, to no avail. Any ideas?

    Hello, I wanted to do a joke to my teacher : When she left, she logged out and i set up all the accessibility tools (color blind, narrator.....) When she came back, she turn off her computer by letting the POWER button pushed. Ever since, each time she turns on the computer, all the accessibilty tools came up even if she DISABLES it each time. (@windows 7) Any solution before she kills me or i get fired from the school ? =o Thanks

  • New Computer won't boot up

    I brought new components and put a computer together. I installed win7(32bit) and everything was working as it should. However my case came with two USB3 front ports I could not connect because of motherboard did not support USB3, so I swapped out the board for a new motherboad with USB3 connection. Now I put everything back together but it won't bootup. "Memory Ok" light stay on. Motherboad LED is on. There is power, all fans are on but I got no display. There is no activity in back of the systems, none of the peripheral connection in the back are working. I have tried the following but to no avail. Reboot multiple times Unplug power and plug the power back Reset the CMOS battery..let it stays out for 10 minutes or more. Unplug all peripheral device but no luck Reset memory..... nothing happen The only thing I did not do was remove the cpu...but I unplug everything else. Please help, thank you.

  • Linux bcm43224 wifi adapter slows down a couple minutes after boot

    I just installed Ubuntu on my mid 2012 MacBook Air. Everything worked out of the box, but the wifi is showing some weird behavior. When I first login it's really fast, loading google.com is near instant, and browsing in general feels at least as smooth as it did on Mac OS. However, after a couple minutes the connection slows down dramatically, sometimes it takes over 5s to load google.com, a simple reboot fixes the problem for another couple minutes. Specs: Wifi: 02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 01) Driver: open-source brcmsmac driver Kernel: Linux wega 3.8.0-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Tue May 14 22:16:46 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Distro: Ubuntu 13.04 (uptodate) I tried a number of things, none of which actually helped Use proprietary sta driver from broadcom Installed firmware into /lib/firmware/brcms (which, as far as I can tell from logs, does not get loaded at all) Switch router to only use 2.4 OR 5 GHz Set router to only use a OR g OR n Set router to use AES encryption only Turned off power management on the adapter Set regulatory region to the correct value (NL) on both router and laptop Disable ipv6 Nothing seems to help, the slowdown always occurs.   • windows 8.1 does not boot after CHKDSK command

    I had problem with Windows 8.1 high Disk usage so in order to solve , searched forums. A voted answer suggested to use CHKDSK command as follow: run command prompt and as administrator type code snippet below: CHKDSK /f /v /b C: (I can not remember accurately) CHKDSK printed : can not run CHKDSK right now , would you like to schedule C drive to be checked next time windows starts? (Y/N) my response was "Y" ,please ! Following this suggestion not only didn't solve my problem as expected but also added another one ! The next time system booted, after windows authentication I just could see a black screen and mouse pointer. So I force shut downed the system and tried to start windows again. This time , windows got stuck in Scanning and Repairing on 22% for around 3 hours so I got tired and forced shut downed again. is CHKDSK source of Scanning and Repairing problem or they are discrete ? is there any hope to overcome this problem without re-installing windows ? can any one else run CHKDSK on newer versions of windows without problem? is CHKDSK effective but inefficient ?(it finally get to end but will take a long time) If yes, how much time does it take? I also have Linux Ubuntu 14.04 installed along side windows.

  • Android failure to boot on LG [migrated]

    I need to recover data from my AT&T LG Thrill Android Phone Background: My AT&T LG Thrill phone's battery died a couple of days ago because I forgot to charge it. When I charged the phone and tried to turn it on, it showed the LG logo followed by the dropping balls and the AT&T "Rethink Possible" screen. I then get a mesage that the Application Google Services Framework has crashed and the phone goes into a loop with the dropping balls showing again followed by "Rethink Possible" screen. This sequence repeats itself over and over and the phone does not get out of this loop. I have been able to go into the recovery screen (both Safe Mode and the Android Recovery Service) and have cleared cache, etc. However, I DO NOT want to wipe user data and restore to factory settings as this will wipe all of my data (pictures, application data, etc). Solution Needed: I need a suggestion to a way of accessing my data so that I can back it up onto an SD card/computer. I DO NOT want to root the phone as this may void the warranty. What I'm looking for is a way of perhaps putting the original flash image on the micro SD card and then have the phone read that image. Or some other similar solution that will get the phone out of this loop and allow me to get to the data.

  • Dell SC1435 always requires F1 at boot

    I have a Dell PowerEdge SC1435 that has come back after doing duty at a partner site. I am trying to configure it for local use. The only problem I have with it is that every time it boots it always requres a manual F1 press after the POST sequence. The last thing it does is give me the opportunity to configure the BMC, and then it says: Press F1 to continue or press F2 for Setup It will wait there forever (well, at least an hour). Pressing F1 starts the OS booting. I can't see the setting in the BIOS which controls this and I can't find it in the documentation. What am I missing?

    I started using One Big Partition for everything and separating data out with folders when I got my current computer years ago. I'm preparing to upgrade my system from Windows XP to Windows 7 and I thought I might go back to putting my data on a separate partition. Most likely I'll just use the default OS install. My current Program Files tree has ~16 GB of stuff. Thinking ahead though, I've had XP installed for years. Who knows what apps I'm going to install down the line? This, of course, begs the question: How big do I make my Windows 7 install partition?

  • Laptop won't boot with both memory slots used

    I'm currently trying to upgrade my old Sony Vaio VGN-SZ1HP/B to 2GB of RAM. It already had 1GB of Crucial RAM in one of its slots, and one empty. I checked on Crucial.com and it confirms that each bank can hold 1GB of PC2-5300. The 1GB stick already installed was this, but Crucial's page recommended this... The two are identical from what I can make out, so I just ordered another one of the former. Unfortunately the machine refuses to even POST with both sticks installed. If I remove the old RAM from Slot 1 and replace it with the new RAM it runs fine. If I leave Slot 1 empty and put RAM (either stick) in Slot 2, it won't POST. Basically it seems that Slot 2 just isn't working properly. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem? Or maybe have any experience with this sort of thing with Sony Vaios?   • NIC light is turned off after boot on Redhat 4.6 server

    I have a 2950 blade server setup with Red Hat 4.6 installed. I cannot get the NIC to work properly after reinstalling Linux. I activated the NIC, but the NIC light will not turn on when I plug the network cable into the hub. The status light on the hub will not turn on either. If I run ifconfig, the NIC status is UP. Also I can ping the IP address that I assign to the Linux machine, but I can't ping anything else that is plugged into the hub. When I reboot the system, the NIC light will stay on until the system fully boots and then it will turn off again. Is there something else that I need to do to get the NIC working? It appears to be disabled even though ifconfig says that it is UP. Maybe I need to configure something within the blade server (iDRAC)?

    I'm thinking about encrypting my whole harddrive for example using TrueCrypt, which I've used for encrypting file containers for a while. It is possible to encrypt the whole harddisk through the program and then add a password secured bootloader before the actual bootloader. Is it possible to do this on a dualboot system with Windows 7 and Fedora 15 currently using Grub as the main bootloader? If so, is it possible to reinstall a system later or will that ruin the whole setup? Thanks

I'm trying to open the partition as a vm and I get into an endless cycle where windows tries to Repair Start Up disk for a very long time before failing. The boot camp partition runs fine natively.   • Notepad Automatically Launches Upon Boot Up of my Windows 7 64-Bit Desktop PC

    Around 12 months ago, When my Windows 7 PC boots up, Notepad started to appear automatically on the desktop (as a duplicate ie one on top of the other), both displaying the same writing inside, and the name of the Notepad was: desktop-Notepad. [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787 I cant remember the exact details as its been so long now but a friend told me, this was due to a "hidden attribute" belonging to notepad becoming "unhidden"and therefore showing itself on the desktop at startup. He showed me a series of steps to either hide the attribute again or to delete it ( telling me that upon restart of my computer it would be recreated/regenerated.) I did indeed follow his guidance however after trying to hide it or delete it (it was never recreated after restart which supposedly it should have done) One notepad still is autolaunched with the text as shown above everytime I startup my PC. As I found this forum I thought I might try again for a solution to prevent notepad from launching. Thankyou

  • Scan disk runs on every boot with Windows XP

    I have four drives on my computer. The problem is that each time I start the computer the scan disk check (CHKDSK) runs for a drive even if I shut down my computer properly. I ran the thorough scan disk check but still for that drive, the scan disk check is always performed no matter what. I wonder what is wrong although everything is fine and accessible along with drive data. Could you guys please help me out of this? I am using Windows XP SP2. Thanks.

  • HP Server bios boot delay

    I'm just going to throw this out there in case anyone else has run accross this... I have an HP DL320 G5p that had the motherboard replaced due to a faulty NIC port. After several calls to HP, two motherboard replacements, PCI riser card replacements, Processor replacement, and power supply replacement, the server takes approx. 10 minutes before it boots into the BIOS. It then boots up with no issues. We've run the HP smart start cd and performed the system tests and everything passed. All firmware has also been upgraded to the latest as well. Has anyone else seen this and found a fix? I am still working with HP, but there seems to be a struggle on their part to figure this out, so I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this and found a fix - thanks...

    I was messing around with FreeRADIUS and MySQL (MariaDB) and it seems FreeRADIUS service can't start properly on startup. But it starts fine using root user or in debug mode (radiusd -X) and works just fine! I tried disabling iptables and firewalld and rebooting, but no luck: systemctl disable iptables systemctl disable firewalld So maybe the problem is in the process startup order or delay of some kind. Maybe FreeRADIUS's SQL module can't connect to not yet started MariaDB? If it, how can I fix this? In earlier versions of RHEL/CENTOS I know you easily see service start order in like rc.d or stuff, now IDK. I am new to this fancy "systemd", "systemctl", "firewalld" stuff Centos 7 introduced so sorry I'm a little bit confused. Also this new FreeRADIUS 3 structure... PS.
