    .com is the most preferable TLD most of the time, so many people choosing domain names have to pick between desiredname.something_else or totallydifferent.com. From wikipedia: The biz TLD was created to relieve some of the demand for domain names in the com top-level domain, and to provide an alternative for businesses whose preferred domain name in com had already been registered by another party. .org at least implies an organization, whereas .com is the most generic 'commercial'. But .biz seems like a total duplicate that doesn't seem in widespread use <pun>and deserves to be closed. </pun>. Does .biz have any advantages over .com? Are .biz domains worth registering if .com is already taken?

If I load an image from another server (using plain http), will that alert the customer saying something is wrong? Will I be able to use all existing codes like phpbb, awstats etc without a problem? Will there be any issue if redirect a page from my domain.com to my subdomain.domain.com using a meta refresh or .htaccess?   • Redirecting email from from domain registrar to hosting comapny mailbox

    I have the domain example.com registered with company A I have the hosting with company B (ServerGrove) Company A offers me simple parking, and company B offers me mailbox service. What I would like is to use the hosting company mail service. How do I configure the DNS records in company A to be forwarded to company B mailbox? I think I have to add a MX record to company A's configuration, and then the same in company B's DNS records, is this correct? I think I'm mixing concepts, and cannot see a clear solution, I've tried several configurations but all failed. Any help would be appreciated. Regards.

    Hi, I ran into this problem and could not solve it, so I have a swf file that loads assets from another swf file, everything's fine, until I put them on the server, they are under the same domain, relative path doesnt work nor does absolute path. This is not even a cross domain problem, since both files are on the same server. Did anyone ever have the same problem? Thanks.

  • How to get a subdomain to point a different server than the main domain

    I have a site at say: foo.com and I would like the subdomain blog.foo.com to point to fooblog.com blog.foo.com - fooblog.com However, our DNS provider says that if we do an alias such as that, since the provider at fooblog.com does not recognize the name blog.foo.com. We asked if we could just point blog.foo.com at the IP address of fooblog.com and they say the same problem will occur. Any advice? Due to our configuration we can't really put the blog on foo.com. We are willing to move our hosting and even our domain name hosting if necessary. -- Yes, I am a n00b when it comes to DNS.

  • Small line-height cross-browser difference

    So basicly my problem is that the line-heights in Firefox are a little bittle "larger" than in other browsers even though they're all fixed line-heights. For example, you have a block element which has a height from 100px and the line-height is set to 102px. Now, in Firefox the vertical alignment of text is perfect. But in the latest Chrome and Safari 4, the text stands 2px or so higher. Isn't there any way to fix this? Thanks.

From that page when i click chrome browser back button, i am not taken to the home page. Instead i m taken to janrain page. Its working fine in chrome version 20. Problem in other version of chrome.     I am trying to set up emailing from a java web application hosted on a linux server (Cent OS) in apache. Sendmail is working fine from the command line as root on localhost but when trying to send emails from the java web app (also on the same server from localhost) the following java exception is thrown. 501 5.0.0 HELO requires domain address EDIT: I have read that some people have found this is due to an incorrect hosts entry currently the hosts file contains 127.0.0.1 Centos-VPS localhost.localdomain localhost and i'm not sure what the Centos-VPS bit at the start is for but this is a clients hosted server so don't really want to break stuff EDIT see the RFC is helpful ... 501 Syntax error in parameters or arguments Now I know what the problem is! (note the sarcasm people.)

    For a set of VPSes operated by my company, I'd like to get a list of domain names hosted by each. The list of names has grown in an ad-hoc way for a few years. Is there a simple way to query the Apache and/or Nginx configurations to see what domains the server answers to on port 80? It is safe to assume (a) that I have sudo on these systems, and (b) they aren't using wildcards, although a solution which acknowledged that a wildcard was in use would be useful too if it also provided a list of explicit domains.

    A company is about to hire me to be their I.T. Admin. (They currently have no Admin). In the interview, they stated one of the things they want me to do is put in a MS Domain Controller. The thing is, they are a graphic design company with about 100 Mac Clients and maybe 5 Windows Clients. So other than login-credentials and network shares, what is the benefit of this? Should I just tell them to use the OSX equivalent of AD? How hard is it to learn whatever OSX's AD is?

    I am just starting to explore/use the UML modeling support in Visual Studio 2010 Umltimate. I have created two model projects within a single solution. Let's call them Model A and Model B. I have some data types (classes) defined in Model B. I want to use them as return types for operations in Model A. However, I cannot figure out how to make the types defined in Model B show up in Model A when attempting to set return type on an operation. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!     Hi, Im trying to load a custom error document for a 404 error using a .htaccess file on a linux server, the page gets the current page URL then redirects to another site (which is retrieved from a db) based on an id it retrieved from the URL. The current error documents are stored here: /error_docs/ - i dont have permission to upload anything other than the HTML files that are already in there /HTTPDocs/301redir.php is the site root where the .htaccess file is. i have used the following to load the 301redir.php page as the error doc, which works in FF but no other browsers. ErrorDocument 404 /310redir.php using .htaccess is my only real option for changing this, is there a way to get around this issue and make it work across all browsers?

  • C# cross thread dialogue co-operation

    K I am looking at a primarily single thread windows forms application in 3.0. Recently my boss had a progress dialogue added on a separate thread so the user would see some activity when the main thread went away and did some heavy duty work and locked out the GUI. The above works fine unless the user switches applications or minimizes as the progress form sits top most and will not disappear with the main application. This is not so bad if there are lots of little operations as the event structure of the main form catches up with its events when it gets time so minimized and active flags can be checked and thus the dialog thread can hide or show itself accordingly. But if a long running sql operation kicks off then no events fire. I have tried intercepting the WndProc command but this also appears queued when a long running sql operation is executing. I have also tried picking up the processes, finding the current app and checking various memory values isiconic and the like inside the progress thread but until the sql operation finishes none of these get updated. Removing the topmost causes the dialog to disappear when another app activates but if the main app is then brought back it does not appear again. So I need a way to find out if the other thread is minimized or no longer active that does not involve querying the actual thread as that locks until the sql operation finishes. Now I know that this is not the best way to write this and it would be better to have all the heavy processing on separate threads leaving the GUI free but as this is a huge ancient legacy app the time to re-write in that fashion will not be provided so I have to work with what I have got. Any help is appreciated

I'm interested in any 'best practise' with regards to project structuring and how to use consistent packaging without lumping everything into a gigantic com.domainname.projects folder structure whilst maintaining that package structure. I'm also keen to use the src/bin/lib folder structure within each project. I guess I'm asking 'how do you do it?' and 'why?'.   • Apache Tomcat - Responding for IP However Not for Domain

    I have just started setting up a VPS. I installed Tomcat to deploy some test applications on. The problem I am having is the following. An 'A' record has been setup for my website's primary domain as vps.mydomain.com. This is resolving fine for SSH and TS3. When it comes to Tomcat, using vps.mydomain.com:8080 does not result in the default landing page. However, 111.222.333.444:8080 does load the default Tomcat page. I read through the manual and within the server.xml added an Alias; this however has not had any effect. Is there any trickery required in order to get Tomcat to serve my applications or is this likely to be some kind of filtering mechanism for requests placed upon me by my hosting provider?

  • Changed domain A records for new static ip, but no mail

    We have recently changed our ISP, I have changed the mail and mailserver DNS A records for our domain name to point to the new external static IP address assigned to the router by the new ISP (the MX record points to mail.<mydomain> as always) but I am not getting any email (though sending email works). Do I just have to wait will the change propagates? I am slightly concerned because I can connect to the web email service made visible through the new router which suggests that the mail.<mydomain> static I.P. address change has happened. Have I missed something?
