• Postfix/Procmail mailing list software

  I'm looking for suggestions on mailing list software to use on an existing server running Postfix/Procmail. Something relatively simple. requirements: 1 list, < 50 subscribers list members dumped in a certain file by a script (being pulled from LDAP or MySQL on another box) Handles MIME, images, etc. Moderation features No subscription/unsubscription - just goes by the file or database. Mailman is far too heavy-weight, and doesn't seem to play (easily) with Postfix/Procmail. I'm currently using a PHP script that just receives mail as a user, reads a list of members from a serialized array (file dumped on box via cron on the machine with the MySQL database containing members) and re-mails it to everyone. Unfortunately, we now need moderation capabilities, and I don't quite feel like adding that to the PHP script if there's already something out there that does it. Thanks for any tips. -Jason

• Looking for Driver Diagnostic and Repair Software

  Greetings, I am currently plagued with BSODS on startup (both normal and safe mode) for my XP Pro. After much troubleshooting I have determined it is a driver problem. However, because I cannot even boot I do not know how to fix it. I am looking for some specific driver diagnostic and repair software that I can use from another computer to access and fix the driver problem on the problematic XP drive. • software RAID array not starting in initramfs on Debian

  One of my Debian servers (kernel 2.6.30-AMD64) refuses to start the software RAID array that houses the root partition in initramfs. It dumps me with a busybox console. When I follow the necessary steps to continue booting it works fine (start the array with mdadm -A and then have LVM scan the volumes with pvscan and then vgchange -ay). I've tried starting with boot options rootdelay=10 to no avail. Also I've updated the initramfs and unpacked it to inspect whether it really tries to assemble the raid array (it does). Output before dumping to console : mount: mounting none on /dev failed: No such device W: devtmpfs not available, falling back to tpmfs for /dev and then some lvm messages saying it can't find the volumes holding the root partitions. Does anybody have a clue how I could fix this?

• Windows Load-Balancing, Forward-Proxying Software

  Does anyone know of any Windows software that will do forward-proxying load-balancing, like HAProxy does? There are tons of reverse-proxy solutions, but I can't find any that do what HAProxy does, that is, allows you to load-balance a group of forwarding-proxies. I have a proxy farm (don't ask) that I need to round-robin balance. HAProxy will do it, but is very unstable on Windows. Thoughts? I'd really appreciate it. And yes, this is an actual, production environment question.

• Internet cafe software for linux

  I have gotten a request to roll out a total of 8 internet cafe's in a large network. Budget is non-existent as it will all be done for a non-profit. I was planing to use Ubuntu and live-cds to minimize the amount of management required, but I can't seem to find any suitable internet cafe system that is Ubuntu based. The requirements are pretty basic: It needs to keep track of logged in time and log out users when their time it up. No billing will be done, it will just be used to ensure people can share the computers fairly. It should be possible to force logout from a central system. Users will be unskilled, so it has to have a GUI. What (preferably free, considering the shoe-string budget) software would you suggest to manage this?

  Hello I am trying to Burn a disk let me catch you up where I am at as I have a very SPECIFIC question and it may be difficult to explain but I will try to keep it simple: I have software already in an ISO file; I am using Daemon tools on a Windows based PC What I am wanting to do is create the actual Picture (not disk image file) that will show up on the Disk drive when I insert the disk Eg: if you put microsoft Office 11 in your comp. you open up My Computer to view all your HD and Disk drives you will see the image that microsoft put on the disk which is a silver CD and the Microsoft Office logo on the top corner. I would like to know how to edit my current ISO file or what I need to do in order to put "A PICTURE" or "AN ICON FILE" on the CD/DVD so that when I insert the disk into any PC it will show up with the PICTURE OR ICON file I chose and look proffessional. • Which software could I use to setup a 4in6 IP tunnel (RFC 2473) on GNU/Linux

  Here is my problem. I have a server A that has two IP addresses. One public IPv4 and one IPv6. Server B has only one IPv6 address. I want to host most of my services on server B (because I have more disk space on it, I can control it better) but I need the IPv4 of the server A. I would like to set up a 4in6 tunnel (RFC 2473) between A and B so that I can transfer the traffic from the IPv4 address in A to B. If needed, I can request another IPv4 address on the server A, but I'd prefer not to. My question is: which software use to do the 4in6 tunnelling? I suppose OpenVPN can do the thing, but is there any implementation of the 4in6 protocol on Linux? A little more challenging: the IPv4 address comes from a venet interface, which cannot be bridged. How could I transfer ownership of this address I don't use on server A to the server B? Thank you

  Hello, I went through the archives here and the Wikipedia page on Project management software, but didn't find information on this type of application to manage projects: Native Windows application (don't like web-based solutions; prefer native to cross-platform) Free or affordable, ie. not an Enterprise solution Scalable from one to a few concurrent users Like MS Projet et al., a project consists in tasks which can be further divided into sub-tasks, and the whole thing is displayed in an tree list An item that has a date set (either start/due) must be displayed in a Calendar view, so it's easy to know what work must be done each day The Calendar view must somehow sync with smartphones (at least BlackBerry) At this point, the apps I know either don't provide a Calendar at all, or do but they can't sync with smartphones, which forces me to copy/paste scheduled items into Outlook so they are synced with my BlackBerry :-/ Thank you for any help.

• Revision / backup software for folder?

  I'm looking for a simple backup/revision software that will monitor a folder for new changes and make a backup of newly modified files? I have a folder with some text files, a few Word/Excel files and I'd like to keep backup files of them when they're modified. (It's no more than 50 mb). I'd like what Dropbox does but just locally (not to be stored on the cloud). Thank you. Edit: I'm on Windows XP. And I'm looking for a freeware app, if possible.

• Can't assign software to non-admin account

  I'm trying to deploy software on our domain using group policy, but I am only able to do so if the user is a member of a group with administrative privileges. We do not want to allow users to install programs generally, but do want to be able to assign/publish. The test program I'm using is originally a .msi file, and it installs fine for users in the administrators group. How can we assign/publish to normal users without opening up the ability to install whatever? Also, from what I've read, I believe I have correct permissions on the folder/share where the .msi files are stored. This is on Win2008R2 with Win7Pro clients.

• Light-weight, free, database query tool for Windows?

  My question is very similar to the one here except pertaining to a Windows tool. I am also referencing this table and what I found here with a Google search. However, I have no idea which tool would best meet my (very basic) purposes. I am currently using Excel with a basic ODBC connection string to query my database at work. However, Excel is pretty memory-heavy and a basic query tends to throw my computer into a 30 second stall-a-thon. Is there a free tool out there that is light-weight and can serve the same purpose when provided an ODBC connection and a SQL query? Also would prefer that it easily copies over to a spreadsheet as needed.

  Just would like some feedback on the best ftp program (not free). The requirements I'm looking for is: - secure ftp - for use on mac, linux, windows - backup utility with scheduler - for use on more than one computer (multi-license) I'm using wsftp from 2007 right now but it's only good for windows. It's license is only good for one computer. And after some vista updates it's making some strange noises. I tried to turn off the noise (via control panel) and it's still making that noise and I turned off the sound within wsftp too. I like the program but I think it's time to look for a new one. • (Free?) Hosting Control Panels

  I've installed and used both cPanel and Plesk on my dedicated servers in the past and I truly enjoyed the features and simplicity of cPanel (specially the auto-update feature in WHM), recently (a couple of months ago) I also tried a beta version of the open-source OpenPanel and although it looks really nice I found it kinda limited in terms of features, such as automatic system updates, automatic backups and the ability to add addicional hosts to the MySQL allowed clients list - just to name a few. Besides OpenPanel, I'm aware of Usermin, Webmin, Virtualmin, ISPConfig, VHCS, web-cp and FlexCP - although I've never had the opportunity to try any of them before... Are you familiar and recommend any of these? It's been a while since I managed a dedicated server and I'm wondering what would be a good hosting control panel for me, preferably a free / open-source one that has similar features / usability of cPanel. I appreciate all input, thanks! =)

  I am using a Fling KVM switch (by Belkin), to connect 2 computers to my monitor One computer is running XP and the other is running Linux My wireless switching mechanism has just gone the way of the saints but Belkin has kindly supplied a software solution for this occurrence. There is a small app called Fling (surprising) that allows me to switch from the XP machine to the Linux machine but nothing to switch back to the XP. What I need to know is there a similar app for the Linux computer. (NB I have tried Synergy but have no idea how to set it up - I've been told that synergy might work). Thanks in advance Norm

• Good Free Backup Tool - with provisos

  I have seen some Backup Questions around. But they are not quite what I am looking for. I would like to have a back up of my entire hard drive (to an external drive). I would like it to be the kind that has a base backup then just backs up the changes since the last backup. I would like it to be able to have a fully restorable image of my hard drive (not just key files). Lastly I would like it to be free (or super cheap). (The above requirements are important, but I will have to drop them if they up the price as my boss will not pay for them.) I have a Solid State Hard Drive 250 GB backing up to a 1TB external hard drive using Windows XP.

  Hello everyone, I am using a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.5. I am new to this development environment, and previously worked on Windows. I want to do very basic image editing, like cut a portion of an image, add some text label to the image, circle some part of the image, etc. I am downloading acornfree from this Url, but when executing acornfree, it said the Mac OS I am using is not supported. • Fedora Installation with software repository in DVD does not work

  I bought a new assembled PC with processor as Core-i3(2120) and Intel H61 motherboard and was trying to install Fedora 16 from a DVD. This DVD contains all the packages so that installation does not require to download packages from internet. I have used this DVD to install Fedora 16 offline many a times though in machines with different hardware configuration. But in this new machine when the installation reaches the stage wherein it asks for Software repository selection I select CD/DVD but the system fails to read the media and throws up an error that it cannot detect the media. THe LED in the DVD writer also indicate that the DVD is not being read. Now there is neither a problem with the DVD or the DVD drive because the installation started from the DVD itself. So what could the problem be, anything in the BIOS that is causing the problem, Is there any way I could utilize the packages already existing in the CD so that I save downloading the packages from DVD

• Looking for Light Time Management Software Suggestions (for Mac)

  I'm looking for a simple project management app that performs task scheduling, along the line of Merlin or MS Project, but no where near as robustly. I don't need to deal with other (human) resources, but I work on anything from 3 to 6 different projects at a time. What I'd like is to be able to input deadlines and tasks, and have a schedule suggested to complete them. I do technical work, but I don't think I need anything specifically for software development, especially considering I do plenty of other kinds of things, like graphic design and social media PR. I'd really like this to be dead simple, as simple as possible. Suggestions? OmniPlan, something web-based? Definitely cannot afford anything too extravagant, really looking for something under $200. • Monitor HTTP usage on network from Linux free

  I manage a small office network. I am looking to start monitoring/logging internet usage (website requests) for each user on a small network. All the windows clients are running through a switch to a BT router. I also have a linux (centos) machine which is connected as a client to the BT router as well.   I have an older version already installed. I have upraded the package using setup.py install command. But the path is not correctly set. When I type "s3cmd" is shows the older version of software. # s3cmd s3cmd [options] <command> [arg(s)] version 1.2.6 --help -h --verbose -v --dryrun -n # which s3cmd /usr/local/bin/s3cmd The correct version is in different folder and I will like that to be used whenever I type the command. # /usr/bin/s3cmd Consider using --configure parameter to create one. • Creative software leftovers - ASIO error message

  I temporarily installed an old Creative Audigy 2 soundboard on my Vista x64 Home Premium computer. Bad idea! I uninstalled the board & all software visible on the control panel. Now, with one particular app. (Sibelius) I keep getting a start-up message "CTASIO Warning: Creative ASIO: there are no Creative audio products installed on the system that support ASIO". I offer this as a candidate for "Most useless message", but that's beside the point. I used a commercial registry cleaner (PC-Tools Registry Mechanic) and then edited the registry looking for "creative", "audigy" and "ASIO". After removing everything I could find, I still get the message. Any suggestions?

However, one module I needed was not loaded. • Looking for a free/cheap backup solution on OSX for NTFS external HDD [closed]

  Hi, I'm looking for an incremental backup system on OSX that plays nice with USB NTFS-formatted external HDDs. I an currently using NTFS-3G (http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/) to work with the HDD, but since Time Machine doesn't work with NTFS drives, I have just been manually copying files from my HDD to back it up (ugh). I need to use an NTFS drive because I am going back and forth between Windows machines at my school and a mac at home. I have no permissions at my school to install any Windows software, so I am forced to find a OSX solution. Please -- any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

• Crop and Capture screen software/plugin for windows7

  Do you know a software or a plugin for a browser that lets me capture what's on my screen and crop it by ratio. I have a photoshop but I don't want to keep opening it just to capture a simple image and then croping it and then saving it. I want to quickly select a portion on my screen save it. If it's possible it lets me crop by ratio (eg. 4:3). Most that I will capture are in my browser, I use either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
