• How do I create SEO-Friendly urls in ASP.Net-MVC

  I'm getting myself acquainted with ASP.Net-MVC, and I was trying to accomplish some common tasks I've accomplished in the past with webforms and other functionality. On of the most common tasks I need to do is create SEO-friendly urls, which in the past has meant doing some url rewriting to build the querystring into the directory path. for example: www.somesite.com/productid/1234/widget rather than: www.somesite.com?productid=1234&name=widget What method do I use to accomplish this in ASP.Net-MVC?   I would like to create a TextBox that only accepts numeric values, in a specific range. What is the best way to implement such TextBox? I thought about deriving TextBox and to override the validation and coercion of the TextProperty. However, I am not sure how to do this, and I understand that deriving WPF control is generally not recommended. Edit: What I needed was a very basic textbox that filters out all key presses which are not digits. The easiest way to achieve it is to handle the TextBox.PreviewTextInput event: private void textBox_PreviewTextInput(object sender, TextCompositionEventArgs e) { int result; if (!validateStringAsNumber(e.Text,out result,false)) { e.Handled = true; } } (validateStringAsNumber is my function that primarily use Int.TryParse) Some of the suggested solutions are probably better, but for the simple functionality I needed this solution is the easiest and quickest to implement while sufficient for my needs.

  I have some objects which have been created automatically by linq2SQL. I would like to write some code which should be run whenever the properties on these objects are read or changed. Can I use typical get { //code } and set {//code } in my partial class file to add this functionality? Currently I get an error about this member already being defined. This all makes sense. Is it correct that I will have to create a method to function as the entry point for this functionality, as I cannot redefine the get and set methods for this property. I was hoping to just update the get and set, as this would mean I wouldn't have to change all the reference points in my app. But I think I may just have to update it everywhere.

  this is probably a simple question, but i have been unable to find a solution online, any help would be much appreciated. I'm trying to create an SQL query in PHP and would like to somehow apply a wild card to the TABLE filter... something perhaps like.... select * from %table%. However, I have only so far been able to see filters for column values not table names. as an example i would have tables such as: jan_table_1 feb_table_1 jan_table_2 feb_table_2 and would want to say, select only tables with a "jan" prefix... or "1" suffix. Is there a quick and easy solution to this that I have not seen? Thanks in advance!

  Hi, It seems that there is a really annoying issue in Class Diagram designer in VS (my version is 2010 Ultimate, but the issue is also observed in VS 2008). When I'm trying to create a class diagram for particular simple class from DLL I'm getting the following error: "Some of the selected type(s) cannot be added to the class diagram. Check the code for errors and ensure that all required assemblies ... blah-blah-blah" My code doesn't contain any error. I have multiple class and interface definitions in one separate .cs file, but these classes are really simple - even no calls to unmanaged/interop. Any solution for this?

This approach seems fine for me but I've run into a problem where you have to add additonal route values or html properties to the Form tag. This picks up the current action and controller automatically: <% using (Html.BeginForm()) { %> However, if I use another BeginForm() overload which allows to pass in enctype or any other attribute I have to do it like this: <% using ("Create", "Section", new { modal = true }, FormMethod.Post, new { enctype = "multipart/form-data" })) and as you can see we lose the ability to automatically detect in which View we are calling RenderPartial("OurCreateEditFormPartial"). We can't have hardcoded values in there because in Edit View this postback will fail or won't postback to the right controller action. What should I do in this case?

Now I have upgraded the code in my feature - I wanted a ListInstance to be created based on my custom list template. When I have upgraded my SharePoint (using WSPBuilder), the ListInstance and default data are visible if I create a new site collection, but existing site collection does not get the ListInstance and data. Is there anything I can do to update existing site collections to contain the ListInstance when upgrading?

  I would like to create a program that makes mp3s of the first 30 seconds of an aiff or wav file. I would also like to be able to choose location and length, such as the audio between 2:12 and 2:42. Are there any tools that lets me do this? Shelling out is OK. The application will run on a linux server, so it would have to be a tool that works on linux. I don't mind doing it in two steps - i.e. a tool that first creates the cutout of the aiff/wav, then pass it to a mp3 encoder.

Basically, I'm looking for a little Domain Specific Language to create flowcharts. I'm terrible at graphic design and making things look nice, and I'd really like a langauge where I could write something in code and it would produce a pretty flowchart. I've come across GraphViz, but it seems more suited to creating things like Finite State Machine diagrams, rather than process flowcharts. It also doesn't have the simple DSL-style front-end that would allow me to easily work it. Any ideas? I'm sure this must have been done before... Robin

I find this an useful idea when designing applications, as it allows us to throttle messages that needs to be re-queued again. There are always the possibility that you will receive more messages than you can handle, maybe the HTTP server is slow, or the database is under too much stress. I also found it very useful when something went wrong in scenarios where there is a zero tolerance to losing messages, and while re-queuing messages that could not be handled may solve that. It can also cause problems where the message will be queued over and over again. Potentially causing performance issues, and log spam.

• SQL Server 2008 automated database drop, create and fill

  For the database in my project I have a drop/create script for the database, a script for creating tables and SPs and an Access 2003 .mdb file with some exported values. To set up the database from scratch I can use my SQL management studio to first run one script, then the other and lastly manually run the sort of tedious import task. But I would like to do this as automated as possible. Hopefully something like putting the three files in a folder along with a fourth script to execute. Looking something like: run script "dropcreate.sql" run script "createtables.sql" import "values.mdb" How is this done? I hope to avoid using SSIS and the like. The tricky this is of course the import of data, where I can't seem to find a simple way. It is also important that the files a left as they are and not embedded into anything.
