  • Permissions nightmare - tried all I know

    Working on a new client's dev site, which is a wordpress install on a Plesk box. I have SSH root access, and FTP access through a separate account. What I've done so far Initially I couldn't make any changes to any files at all. The permissions on all the template files looked a little screwy (644), so I figured change them to allow group, and add myself to the group: CHMOD Recursive on the theme folder to set everything to 664 Quickly realised I'd broken it, set the folders to 755, kept files as 664 Ownership on all files is a mixture of root:root and 500:500 (there is no user nor group with the ID of 500 on the server). Added myself to the group 'root' so I could modify the files too The Problem This worked OK, in terms of being able to edit the existing files, so I began working. However, I can't upload to the directory, even having run CHOWN -R root:root templatefolder/ and being in the root group. I feel like I must be missing something obvious, and it's doing my head in. Questions: Files in the install owned by 500 with group 500 - I've looked in /etc/group and /etc/passwd and there is no user nor group with this ID. Is that left over from another developer's setup or the previous server (they moved recently)? Is being in the 'root' group enough, or do I need to own the theme folder as 'myftpuser' in order to upload and create new files? Like I say, I have edit access, so I got myself this far. I'm now questioning what to do next!

  • How do I configure VMware View location-based printing to use Active Directory Groups?

    I am attempting to configure VMware View 4.5's Location-Based Printing, which leverages an included OEM version of ThinPrint, to assign printers to active directory groups. The location-based printing feature maps printers that are physically near client systems to VMware View desktops. I am using the Active Directory group policy setting AutoConnect Location-based Printing for VMware View, which is located in the Microsoft Group Policy Object Editor in the Software Settings folder under Computer Configuration. The AutoConnect Location-based Printing for VMware View appearst to be just a name translation table. It permits me to assign a specific printer or printers to an IP Range, Client Name, Mac Address, User, or User Group. I'm attempting to assign printers to active directory user groups. I have created a new active directory group for each printer that I intend to use in VMware View desktop pools. I will then assign active directory users to the active directory groups that represent each network printer. Example: doej is a member of the PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 active directory group. Using AutoConnect, I assigned the group to receive a network printer by adding PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 in the User/Group column. Problem: When doej logs in to his VDI session, the printer is not present. However, if I use a wildcard "*" in the User/Group column instead of the specific PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 active directory group, the printer is present and functions as designed. Alternatives: I have tried assigning printers to active directory groups within AutoConnect in the following ways, all unsuccesfull: PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 domainexample\PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 domainexample.local\PTR-FLOOR2-NORTH-ROOM255 Confirmation: The information used to map the printer to the VMware View desktop is stored in a registry entry on the View desktop in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\thinprint\tpautoconnect. For each of these examples, I have reviewed the registry entry and can confirm that the desktop is receiving the information from the AutoConnect translation table. Summary: Can anyone provide an example of how to configure VMware View 4.5's Location-Based Printing so that I may assign network printers to active directory groups via the included AutoConnect tool? I would welcome a clear example of a working configuration. Thank you.

    I’m a huge fan of the St. Louis .NET User Group and a regular attendee of their meetings, but always wished there was a local group that discussed more advanced .NET topics. (That’s not a criticism of the group - I appreciate that they want to server developers with a broad range of skill levels). That’s why I was thrilled when Nicholas Cloud started a St. Louis ALT.NET group in 2010. Here’s the “about us” statement from the group’s web site: The ALT.NET community is a loosely coupled, highly cohesive group of like-minded individuals who believe that the best developers do not align themselves with platforms and languages, but with principles and ideas. In 2007, David Laribee created the term "ALT.NET" to explain this "alternative" view of the Microsoft development universe--a view that challenged the "Microsoft-only" approach to software development. He distilled his thoughts into four key developer characteristics which form the basis of the ALT.NET philosophy: You're the type of developer who uses what works while keeping an eye out for a better way. You reach outside the mainstream to adopt the best of any community: Open Source, Agile, Java, Ruby, etc. You're not content with the status quo. Things can always be better expressed, more elegant and simple, more mutable, higher quality, etc. You know tools are great, but they only take you so far. It's the principles and knowledge that really matter. The best tools are those that embed the knowledge and encourage the principles (e.g. Resharper.) The St. Louis ALT.NET meetup group is a place where .NET developers can learn, share, and critique approaches to software development on the .NET stack. We cater to the highest common denominator, not the lowest, and want to help all St. Louis .NET developers achieve a superior level of software craftsmanship. I don’t see a lot of ALT.NET talk in blogs these days. The movement was harmed early on by the negative attitudes of some of its early leaders, including jerk moves like the Entity Framework “vote of no confidence”, but I do see occasional mentions of local groups like the St. Louis one. I think ALT.NET has been successful at bringing some of its ideas into the .NET world, including heavily influencing ASP.NET MVC and raising the general level of software craftsmanship for developers working on the Microsoft stack. The ideas and ideals live on, they’re just not branded as “this is ALT.NET!” In the past 18 months, St. Louis ALT.NET meetups have discussed topics like: NHibernate F# and other functional languages AOP CoffeeScript “How Ruby Is Making Me a Stronger C# Developer” Using rake for builds CQRS .NET dynamic programming micro web frameworks – Nancy & Jessica Git ALT.NET doesn’t mean (to me, anyway) “alternatives to .NET”, but “alternatives for .NET”. We look at how things are done in Ruby and other languages/platforms, but always with the idea “What can I learn from this to take back to my “day job” with .NET?”. Meetings are held at 7PM on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the offices of Professional Employment Group.   • jqGrid - customizing the multi-select option (restrict single selection and adding custom events)

    Goal: Using the jgGrid to enable a selection of a checkbox for row selection - which is easy to set in the jqGrid - but also only allowing a single row to be selectable at a time while adding events based on whether the row was selected or de-selected. Environment: jQuery 1.4.4 jqGrid 3.4.4a Issue: The jqGrid does not support the option to restrict the multi-select to only allow for a single selection. You may ask, why bother with the multi-select checkbox function if you only want to allow for the selection of a single row? Good question, as an example, you want to reserve the selection of a row to trigger another kind of event and use the checkbox multi-select to handle a different kind of event; in other words, when I select the row I want something entirely different to happen than when I select to check off the checkbox for that row. Also the setSelection method of the jqGrid is a toggle and has no support for determining whether the checkbox has already been selected or not, So it will simply act as a switch - which it is designed to do - but with no way out of the box to only check off the box (as in not to de-select) rather than act like a switch. Furthermore, the getGridParam('selrow') does not indicate if the row was selected or de-selected, which seems a bit strange and is the main reason for this blog post. Solution: How this will act: When you check off a multi-select checkbox in the gird, and then commence to select another row by checking off that row's multi-select checkbox - I'm not talking there about clicking on the row but using the grid's multi-select checkbox - it will de-select the previous selection so that you are always left with only a single selection. Furthermore, once you select or de-select a multi-select checkbox, fire off an event that will be determined by whether or not the row was selected or de-selected, not just merely clicked on. So if I de-select the row do one thing but when selecting it do another. The following to settings ensure that the jqGrid will add the new column to select rows with a checkbox and also the not allow for the selection by clicking on the row but to force the user to have to click on the multi-select checkbox to select the row: multiselect: true, multiboxonly: true, Unfortunately the var gridSelRow = $(item).getGridParam('selrow') function will only return the row the user clicked on or rather that the row's checkbox was clicked on and NOT whether or not it was selected nor de-selected, but it retrieves the row id, which is what we will need. The following piece get's all rows that have been selected so far, as in have a checked off multi-select checkbox: var s; s = $(item).getGridParam('selarrrow'); Now determine if the checkbox the user just clicked on was selected or de-selected: var selected = $.inArray(rowId, s) != -1; If it was selected then show a container "#productLineDetails", if not hide that container away.   • Rendering a WPF Network Map/Graph layout - Manual? PathListBox? Something Else?

    I'm writing code to present the user with a simplified network map. At any given time, the map is focused on a specific item... say a router or a server. Based on the focused item, other network entities are grouped into sets (i.e. subnets or domains) and then rendered around the focused item. Lines would represent connections and groups would be visually grouped inside a rectangle or ellipse. Panning and zooming are required features. An item can be selected to display more information in a "properties" style window. An item could also be double-clicked to re-focus the entire network map on that item. At that point, the entire map would be re-calculated. I am using MVVM without any framework, as of yet. Assume the logic for grouping items and determining what should be shown or not is all in place. I'm looking for the best way to approach the UI layout. So far, I'm aware of the following options: Use a canvas for layout (inside a ScrollViewer to handle the panning). Have my ViewModel make use of a Layout Manager type of class, which would handle assigning all the layout properties (Top, Left, etc.). Bind my set of display items to an ItemsControl and use Data Templates to handle the actual rendering. The drawbacks with this approach: Highly manual layout on my part. Lots of calculation. I have to handle item selection manually. Computation of connecting lines is manual. The Pros of this approach: I can draw additional lines between child subnets as appropriate (manually). Additional LayoutManagers could be added later to render the display differently. This could probably be wrapped up into some sort of a GraphLayout control to be re-used. Present the focused item at the center of the display and then use a PathListBox for layout of the additional items. Have my ViewModel expose a simple list of things to be drawn and bind them to the PathListBox. Override the ListBoxItem Template to also create a line geometry from the borders of the focused item (tricky) to the bound item. Use DataTemplates to handle the case where the item being bound is a subnet, in which case we would use another PathListBox in the template to display items inside the subnet. The drawbacks with this approach: Selected Item synchronization across multiple `PathListBox`es. Only one item on the whole graph can be selected at a time, but each child PathListBox maintains its own selection. Also, subnets cannot be selected, but would be selectable without additional work. Drawing the connecting lines is going to be a bit of trickery in the ListBoxItem template, since I need to know the correct side of the focused item to connect to. The pros of this approach: I get to stay out of the layout business, more. I'm looking for any advice or thoughts from others who have encountered similar issues or who have more WPF experience than I. I'm using WPF 4, so any new tricks are legal and encouraged.

  • Backing up Information Store - Recovering to Different Information Store / RSG

    Hi All, I have a question on a situation, that hasn't yet arrisen but I wondered the possibilities and how we go about it. Currently we backup our Exchange 2003 Cluster with Backup exec. Currently it is set to backup the Microsoft Information Store on that server and all of the Mailbox Stores beneath it. We have previously used this in conjunction with a recovery storage group on the same server to recover lost mailboxes. However, due to space constrictions on that server ( a seperate issue that is being addressed in the very near future but outside of the scope of this question) we now don't have enough space on that server to do a recovery storage group type restore. Is it possible, to restore an information store, to a different server in the same administrative group (ie first)? By that I mean we have the following: Server1 | First Storage Group | Mailbox Store1/2/3 Could Mailbox Store 1 be restored to: Server2 | First Storage Group | Recovery Storage Group Both servers are under the same Administrative Group Currently for whatever reason ( mainly time) the mailboxes are not being backed up individually.   • LDAP query on linux against AD returns groups with no members

    I am using LDAP+kerberos to authenticate against Active Directory on Windows 2003 R2. My krb5.conf and ldap.conf appear to be correct (according to pretty much every sample I found on the 'net). I can login to the host with both password and ssh keys. When I run getent passwd, all my ldap user accounts are listed with all the important attributes. When I run getent group, all the ldap groups and their gid's are listed, but no group members. If I run ldapsearch and filter on any group, the members are all listed with the "member" attribute. So the data is there for the taking, it's just not being parsed properly. It would appear that I simply am using an incorrect mapping in ldap.conf, but I can't see it. I've tried several variations and all give the same result. It does not work on the distro I am planning on switching to. I have installed from source the versions of pam_ldap and nss_ldap on the new box to match the old box, which fixed another problem I was having with this setup. Other relevant info is the original AD box was Windows 2003. It's mirror died a horrible hardware death so I'm trying to add two more 2003-R2 servers to the mirror tree and ultimately drop the old 2003 box. The new R2 boxes appear to have joined the DC forest properly. What do I need to do to get groups working? I've exhausted all the resources I could find and need a different angle. Any input is appreciated. Status update, 7/31/09 I have managed to tweak my config file to get full info from the AD and performance is nice and snappy. I replaced the back-rev'd copies of pam_ldap and nss_ldap with the current ones for the distro I'm using, so it's back to a standard out-of-the-box install. Some are (one or two), but not all. Group memberships are still honored, such as file and printer access. getent group foo still shows that the user is a member of group foo. So it appears to be a presentation bug, and does not interfere with normal operation. It also appears that some (I have not determined exactly how many) group searches do not resolve correctly, even though the group is listed. eg, when you run "getent group bar", nothing is returned, but if you run "getent group|grep bar" or "getent group|grep <bar_gid>" you can see that it indeed listed and your group name and gid are correct. This still seems like an LDAP search or mapping error, but I can't figure out what it is. I'm a heckuva lot closer than earlier in the week, but I'd really like to get this last detail ironed out.

    I'm using Windows XP SP3 logged in as the administrator. I had RAID Mirroring running. The motherboard broke earlier in the year. When I got a new battery I did not resync. I just use the disks as two separate disks. I searched Google for the errors but I didn't find anything detailed enough.     I'm having an issue where users who are members of secondary groups in LDAP are not being recognized as members of that group by the client. In this case, user jdoe is not being recognized as a member of the projects group. On the client, getent group shows: projects:*:20001:1001,1002,1003,1004,1005,1006 and getent passwd shows: jdoe:x:1003:10003:John Doe:/home/jdoe:/bin/bash But if I log in to the client as jdoe, and run id, I get: uid=1003(jdoe) gid=10003(jdoe) groups=24(cdrom),25(floppy),29(audio),44(video),46(plugdev),10003(jdoe) It recognizes jdoe's primary group, and the secondary groups that are appended by the client to all LDAP users, but the LDAP secondary groups are not in the list. We can see that jdoe's id is in the projects group, so why is the projects group not showing when jdoe runs the id command? The group objects are basic posixGroup entries, with a memberUid attribute for each of its members. We are using OpenLDAP on Ubuntu 10.04 server and clients.

  • How can I ensure my programmatic uploads are done in the correct order?

    In our application, we store two copies of a file - an approved one and an unapproved one. Both track their versions separately. When the unapproved is then approved, all of its versions are added as new versions to the approved file. To do this properly, my code has to upload each version separately into the approved folder, and update the item each time with that version's information. For some reason, though, this doesn't always work properly. In my latest scenario, the latest version was uploaded first, and then all of the remaining versions were uploaded afterwards. However, my code explicitly is supposed to upload the other versions first, that's the order I wrote it in. Why is this happening? And if it is possible, how do I ensure that the versions are uploaded in the correct order? Clarification - It's not a problem with the enumeration - I'm getting the previous versions in the correct order. What is happening is that the final version, which is written after the loop, is being uploaded before the loop. Which really doesn't make any sense to me.     Hi All, I am trying to set up a Approval workflow when item created and item updated event on a list and then update the approval status as workflow complete. Now when I create a new Item the workflow kicks off as expected. When I edit the same item and approve the item new workflow get started as the item get edit. It seems to be workflow falls in loop if I se an Approval workflow on new item created and Item Edit events. I Google for it and I found that Microsoft has come up with hotfix to overcome this issue. I have installed it on my machine but still the problem persist. Is there are any prerequisites needed for this ? or any other service pack or specific version of service pack needs be installed on machine to make this hotfix running. I only want to remove the item from my master repository of objects if no other objects have a reference to the item. This is because it was still referenced from friends.items. However, friends.remove(4) causes id 4 to be removed from contactRepo, because no other collection is referring to it. Summary The above is what I want to do. I'm sure there are ways I can do this by keeping track of my own reference counters and such. But if there is a way to do it using javascript's built-in reference management, I'd like to hear about how to use it.

    I'm having some issues with my first attempts at using matplotlib and scipy to make some scatter plots of my data (too many variables, trying to see many things at once).
