  • ADO.net, Check if ObjectContext is writeable

    - by user287107
I have an embedded database in an asp.net mvc project. If I try to write to the file, I sometimes get a write failed exception because the SQL Server can't write to the file. How can I check an ObjectContext, if its writeable, without actually writing something to the database?

  • Django 1.2 object level permissions - third party solutions?

    - by mawimawi
Since Django 1.2 final is almost out, I am curious if there are already projects that use the new object level permissions / row level permissions system. [django-authority][1] which is a possible solution for Django up to 1.1 has not been updated for a while, and does not (yet) use the new permissions system. It seems to me that Django-Authority is in a comatose state. Does someone know about upcoming or maybe even finished solutions? I'd appreciate any good links to active projects with at least some downloadable content very much. [1]: http://packages.python.org/django-authority/ django-authority

  • WPF - Binding a color resource to the data object within a DataTemplate

    - by John
    I have a DataTemplate and a SolidColorBrush in the DataTemplate.Resources section. I want to bind the color to a property of the same data object that the DataTemplate itself is bound to. However, this does not work. The brush is ignored. Why? <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type data:MyData}" x:Name="dtData"> <DataTemplate.Resources> <SolidColorBrush x:Key="bg" Color="{Binding Path=Color, Converter={StaticResource colorConverter}" /> </DataTemplate.Resources> <Border CornerRadius="15" Background="{StaticResource bg}" Margin="0" Opacity="0.5" Focusable="True"> </DataTemplate>

  • Vertex Buffer Object not drawing in SDL window

    - by intregus
    I'm just using the opengl SDL template with Xcode, and everything runs fine. I removed the Atlantis code, and changed the main extension to .mm, then added some testing code to drawGL. Drawing a simple triangle (using immediate mode) at this point inside drawGL gives me a white triangle, but when I add the code to draw using a vertex buffer object, i just get a black window. Here is my VBO drawing code: glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT | GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); // Clear The Screen And The Depth Buffer glLoadIdentity(); GLuint buffer; float vertices[] = { 0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f, -1.0f,-1.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f,-1.0f, 0.0f }; // VBO doesn't work :( glGenBuffers(1, &buffer); glBindBuffer(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, buffer); glBufferData(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, sizeof(float) * 9, vertices, GL_STATIC_DRAW); glEnableClientState(GL_VERTEX_ARRAY); glVertexPointer(3, GL_FLOAT, 0, vertices); glDrawArrays(GL_TRIANGLES, 0, 3); glDisableClientState(GL_VERTEX_ARRAY);

  • How to work-around "Object required" error when adding a variable in an ATL Dialog

    - by Toto
I'm using Visual Studio .NET 2003 to develop a COM ATL application in unmanaged Visual C++. I've created a ATL Dialag and whenever I try to add a variable for a control the wizard thorws the message "Object required". I've tried the following alternatives: Right click in the control to call "Add variable" from there: this way the wizard does not thorws the message but the variable is not created. This post, but it is for VS2005. Does anyone knows any work-around-around for this problem? Or what the wizard actually does so I can do it manually?

  • Wrappers/law of demeter seems to be an anti-pattern...

    - by Robert Fraser
I've been reading up on this "Law of Demeter" thing, and it (and pure "wrapper" classes in general) seem to generally be anti patterns. Consider an implementation class: class Foo { void doSomething() { /* whatever */ } } Now consider two different implementations of another class: class Bar1 { private static Foo _foo = new Foo(); public static Foo getFoo() { return _foo; } } class Bar2 { private static Foo _foo = new Foo(); public static void doSomething() { _foo.doSomething(); } } And the ways to call said methods: callingMethod() { Bar1.getFoo().doSomething(); // Version 1 Bar2.doSomething(); // Version 2 } At first blush, version 1 seems a bit simpler, and follows the "rule of Demeter", hide Foo's implementation, etc, etc. But this ties any changes in Foo to Bar. For example, if a parameter is added to doSomething, then we have: class Foo { void doSomething(int x) { /* whatever */ } } class Bar1 { private static Foo _foo = new Foo(); public static Foo getFoo() { return _foo; } } class Bar2 { private static Foo _foo = new Foo(); public static void doSomething(int x) { _foo.doSomething(x); } } callingMethod() { Bar1.getFoo().doSomething(5); // Version 1 Bar2.doSomething(5); // Version 2 } In both versions, Foo and callingMethod need to be changed, but in Version 2, Bar also needs to be changed. Can someone explain the advantage of having a wrapper/facade (with the exception of adapters or wrapping an external API or exposing an internal one).

  • Constructing an object and calling a method without assignment in VB.Net

    - by mdryden
I'm not entirely sure what to call what C# does, so I haven't had any luck searching for the VB.Net equivalent syntax (if it exists, which I suspect it probably doesn't). In c#, you can do this: public void DoSomething() { new MyHelper().DoIt(); // works just fine } But as far as I can tell, in VB.Net, you must assign the helper object to a local variable or you just get a syntax error: Public Sub DoSomething() New MyHelper().DoIt() ' won't compile End Sub Just one of those curiosity things I run into from day to day working on mixed language projects - often there is a VB.Net equivalent which uses less than obvious syntax. Anyone?

  • Constant expression with custom object

    - by nils
I'm trying to use an instant of a custom class as a template parameter. class X { public: X() {}; }; template <class Foo, Foo foo> struct Bar { }; const X x; Bar<X, x> foo; The compiler states that x cannot appear in a constant expression. Why that? There is everything given to construct that object at compile time.

  • looking for automated modeling tool for ASP.Net class diagramming

    - by alchemical
I'm walking into a project with 500+ classes, and am wondering if anyone has had good experiences with automated modeling tools that can import from ASP.Net /C#? It would be a bonus if I could get an automated model based on all the objects called to completely load a single ASP.Net page, with relationships indicating which objects are calling out to which other ones, etc. Thanks for sharing your thoughts or recomendations.

  • In a digital photo, how can I detect if a mountain is obscured by clouds?

    - by Gavin Brock
The problem I have a collection of digital photos of a mountain in Japan. However the mountain is often obscured by clouds or fog. What techniques can I use to detect that the mountain is visible in the image? I am currently using Perl with the Imager module, but open to alternatives. All the images are taken from the exact same position - these are some samples. My naïve solution I started by taking several horizontal pixel samples of the mountain cone and comparing the brightness values to other samples from the sky. This worked well for differentiating good image 1 and bad image 2. However in the autumn it snowed and the mountain became brighter than the sky, like image 3, and my simple brightness test started to fail. Image 4 is an example of an edge case. I would classify this as a good image since some of the mountain is clearly visible. UPDATE 1 Thank you for the suggestions - I am happy you all vastly over-estimated my competence. Based on the answers, I have started trying the ImageMagick edge-detect transform, which gives me a much simpler image to analyze. convert sample.jpg -edge 1 edge.jpg I assume I should use some kind of masking to get rid of the trees and most of the clouds. Once I have the masked image, what is the best way to compare the similarity to a 'good' image? I guess the "compare" command suited for this job? How do I get a numeric 'similarity' value from this?

  • Example with Visitor Pattern

    - by devoured elysium
public class Song { public string Genre { get; protected set; } public string Name { get; protected set; } public string Band { get; protected set; } public Song(string name, string band, string genre) { Name = name; Genre = genre; Band = band; } } public interface IMusicVisistor { void Visit(List<Song> items); } public class MusicLibrary { List<Song> _songs = new List<Song> { ...songs ... }; public void Accept(IMusicVisitor visitor) { visitor.Visit(_songs); } } and now here's one Visitor I made: public class RockMusicVisitor : IMusicVisitor { public List<Song> Songs { get; protected set; } public void Visit(List<Song> items) { Songs = items.Where(x => x.Genre == "Rock").ToList(); } } Why is this any better than just putting a public property Songs and then letting any kind of class do with it anything that it wants to? This example comes from this post.

  • OOP Design for an Economy

    - by waiwai933
Not sure where to start, so I'm just going to plow in. Let's say I'm trying to represent an economy in OOP. A basic design I've come up with is: class Person{ int $money; // Money someone has in wallet/purse int $bank_account_id; function getAmountOfMoney() function addMoney($amountToAdd) function subtractMoney($amountToSubtract) } class BankAccount{ int $money; // Money in Bank Account int $interest_per_year; function giveInterest() function depositMoney() // Calls $person->subtractMoney() function withdrawMoney() // Calls $person->addMoney() } Are there any design flaws here?

  • SoundChannel object plays small portion after being stopped and played again

    - by gok
SoundChannel object is stopped and played again. When played again it plays small portion from the previous position and suddenly jumps back to the beginning. It doesn't play the whole sound before looping. This happens only once, then it loops normally. It happens again if I stop and play. public function play():void { channel = clip.play(trimIn); volume(currentVolume); isPlaying = true; timer.start(); channel.addEventListener(Event.SOUND_COMPLETE, loopMusic); } public function loopMusic(e:Event=null):void { if (channel != null) { timer.stop(); channel.removeEventListener(Event.SOUND_COMPLETE, loopMusic); play(); } } Do I need to somehow reset the soundChannel?

  • Android Context.bindService always returns false and ServiceConnection object is never triggered

    - by mosfet
I have followed the Local Service example provided by Google, but my Context::bindService(...) always returns false and there is ServiceConnection::onServiceConnected is also never called. I understand that Context::bindService() returns immediately, but my ServiceConnection object is never triggered. I don't know if these apply My activity is running inside a tabHost and I was wondering if that can affect service binding in any way. The Service itself may have a problem, but I can call start service to the same service with the same Intent and it works as expected. Does anyone have experience with this? Please help me out. Thanks, P.S. I am targeting Android 1.6

  • How to use json object notation to retrieve dbpedia json data

In my php code, I am retrieving json data as below. <?php $url = "http://dbpedia.org/data/Los_Angeles.json"; $data = file_get_contents($url); echo $data; ?> The javascript code consumes this json data returned from php and gets the json object as below. var doc = eval('(' + request.responseText + ')'); How to retrieve the following json data using dot notations. The keys contain URLs. • How do you use the LINQ to SQL designer to generate accessor methods for subclasses?

    - by Pricey
Above is the LINQ to SQL designer view for my data context. Below is the relevant code: public System.Data.Linq.Table<ActivityBase> ActivityBases { get { return this.GetTable<ActivityBase>(); } } ... [Table(Name="dbo.Activities")] [InheritanceMapping(Code="1", Type=typeof(ActivityBase), IsDefault=true)] [InheritanceMapping(Code="2", Type=typeof(Project))] [InheritanceMapping(Code="3", Type=typeof(ProjectActivity))] [InheritanceMapping(Code="5", Type=typeof(Task))] [InheritanceMapping(Code="4", Type=typeof(Activity))] public abstract partial class ActivityBase : INotifyPropertyChanging, INotifyPropertyChanged { ... Is there a way to generate accessor methods for the subclasses as shown in the inheritance mapping above (Project, Task, etc...) without doing it manually? I added them manually but then a change in the designer overwrites any manual changes. Am i doing this wrong? should I not be making accessors for the sub classes? filtering from ActivityBase seems worse to me. Thanks for any help on this.

  • fluent nHibernate mapping of subclassed structure

    - by Codezy
I have a workflow class that has a collection of phases, each phase has a collection of tasks. You can design a workflow that will be used by many engagements. When used in engagement I want to be able to add properties to each class (workflow, phase, and task). For example a task in the designer does not have people assigned, but a task in an engagement would need extra properties like who is assigned to it. I have tried many different approaches using subclasses or interfaces but I just can't get it to map the way I want. Currently I have the engagement level versions as subclasses, but I can't get Engagement phases to map to engagement workflows. Public Class WorkflowMapping Inherits ClassMap(Of Workflow) Sub New() Id(Function(x As Workflow) x.Id).Column("Workflow_Id").GeneratedBy.Identity() Map(Function(x As Workflow) x.Description) Map(Function(x As Workflow) x.Generation) Map(Function(x As Workflow) x.IsActive) HasMany(Function(x As Workflow) x.Phases).Cascade.All() End Sub End Class Public Class EngagementWorkflowMapping Inherits SubclassMap(Of EngagementWorkflow) Sub New() Map(Function(x As EngagementWorkflow) x.ClientNo) Map(Function(x As EngagementWorkflow) x.EngagementNo) End Sub End Class How would you approach mapping this in fluent (or hbm) so that you could load just the workflow base class when designing the flow, or the engagement subclass versions of each when being used by an engagement?

  • Generics with constraints hierarchy

    - by devoured elysium
I am currently facing a very disturbing problem: interface IStateSpace<Position, Value> where Position : IPosition // <-- Problem starts here where Value : IValue // <-- and here as I don't { // know how to get away this // circular dependency! // Notice how I should be // defining generics parameters // here but I can't! Value GetStateAt(Position position); void SetStateAt(Position position, State state); } As you'll down here, both IPosition, IValue and IState depend on each other. How am I supposed to get away with this? I can't think of any other design that will circumvent this circular dependency and still describes exactly what I want to do! interface IState<StateSpace, Value> where StateSpace : IStateSpace where Value : IValue { StateSpace StateSpace { get; }; Value Value { get; set; } } interface IPosition { } interface IValue<State> where State : IState { State State { get; } } Basically I have a state space IStateSpace that has states IState inside. Their position in the state space is given by an IPosition. Each state then has one (or more) values IValue. I am simplifying the hierarchy, as it's a bit more complex than described. The idea of having this hierarchy defined with generics is to allow for different implementations of the same concepts (an IStateSpace will be implemented both as a matrix as an graph, etc). Would can I get away with this? How do you generally solve this kind of problems? Which kind of designs are used in these cases? Thanks
