  • how do you create a simple obejctice-c command line project in xcode

    im moving from a c# VS2008 world into the mac world and I just wanted to know how I can create a quick little command line based application so that I can write many little objective-c apps without worrying about creating an iPhone app or whatever. Which projects do I create in xcode? I can see the Command Line Tool under "Mac os x" but the only options for the type is "C", "C++", "Core Data", "Core Foundation", "Core Services" and "Foundation" but no simple objective c project?   • Should developers *really* have private offices?

    We will probably be moving within a year, so we have to make some decisions regarding office layout. At the moment, our company is basically one big office. When our developers can't bother to be disturbed at all, we all have our own headphones to mute the outside world. Still, it seems a lot of people feel that private offices are no doubt the way to go. From Joel's article Private Offices Redux: Not every programmer in the world wants to work in a private office. In fact quite a few would tell you unequivocally that they prefer the camaradarie and easy information sharing of an open space. Don't fall for it. They also want M&Ms for breakfast and a pony. Open space is fun but not productive. Even though I can understand the benefit on productivity, does having a private office really result in more net productivity? There seem to be plenty of companies that create wide open spaces and still maintain good productivity. Or so it seems. (I should mention many of them use cubicles, though) What is your opinion on this? What does your company do? Is there some middle ground in this?   • Internet Sharing on Lion breaks my routing table

    When in the office, I'm connected to a 192.168.1.0/24 network. When Internet Sharing is off, when I run netstat -nr the first entry shows default 192.168.1.254 UGSc 10 62 en0 If I turn Internet sharing on, it shows default link#5 UCS 2 0 en1 This is obviously incorrect and breaks all connectivity of my machine. en1 is my wireless, whereas en0 is my ethernet. If I then disable Internet Sharing, it even deletes that incorrect route, so I'm left with no default route at all. Currently I have one script that I run when I share, or after, when I disable that does route delete default route add default 192.168.1.254 That fixes everything, but I'd love to know what's actually making this happen and how to properly fix it. And just to say that at some point a few months ago, this was working absolutely perfectly, with no hitches, then one day when I brought the laptop home, I couldn't disable the internet sharing, so I couldn't connect to my home wifi. I eventually had to restart the machine and since then this problem has been happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

  • How to backup a large FreeNAS?

    We have a 12TB FreeNAS box in the office, and are looking for a way to keep a backup of it offsite. We're considering (1) tape; (2) a bunch of bare drives (popped into a spare hotswap bay); (3) external drives. Any advice on which solution is best? (Online backup is not an option because our internet connection is too slow.) And, is there some software that will keep track of which files have been backed up and which haven't? So that when one backup unit fills up, we can continue the backup on the next? (We don't want to have to back up to a 12TB device.) This software could run, preferably, on the NAS itself; or from one of our Mac clients. Our goal is a situation where we attach some backup device; it automatically fills up with stuff from the server; the contents of this unit are catalogued somewhere something prompts us to replace with a fresh drive/tape; backup continues until full, including any files that have changed since being backed up.

  • Need help with testdisk output

    I had (note the past tense) an ubuntu 12.04 system with separate partitions for the base and /home directories. It started acting wonky, so I decided to do a reinstall with 12.10, intending just to do a reinstall to the base partition. After several seconds, I realize that the installer was repartitioning the drive and reinstalling, so I pulled the power cord. I'm now trying to recover as much as I can with testdisk, but it seems that testdisk is finding 100 unique partitions when I run it - they mostly tend to be HFS+ or solaris /home (which I think is just an ext4; I've never had solaris on the machine). I've pasted an abbreviated version of the testdisk output below (first ~100 lines, and then ~100 lines from the middle of the output). Is there a way to combine or recreate the partitions and then data recovery, or some other way maximize what I can recover (ideally as much of the file system as possible)? I really only care about what was in the /home directory - I'd rather not use photorec since I don't have another 2 TB HD lying around to recover to.     I know that Silverlight 4 has the support for COM interop via the AutomationFactory class. dynamic excel = AutomationFactory.CreateObject( "Excel.Application" ); excel.Visible = true; Easy. But this creates a separate process for the COM object. What I am missing here is if I am actually able to actually host the office document inside my silverlight application - in a ContentPresenter for example? Thanks in advance.
