  • Methods of cooling with no more room in case?

    Hi all, I've got an HP DC7100 and an HP m8530f. The DC7100 is a small form factor desktop while the m8530f has a mATX board with lots of extra features like front I/O and HP Personal Media Drive bay. Both of these have very little space (especially the DC7100) and don't have any other places to mount fans. What other possible ways of cooling are there, if there isn't much space left inside the case? Thanks in advance.

    Im looking to spend upto £500 on a laptop in the next few days, and am now after a bit of adivce. This laptop will be used to develop personal projects on using VS2010, and SQL sever express. I know this sort of question has been asked plenty before however Im looking for specifics, has anyone bought a laptop recently to run VS on and if so what did you get? has anyone seen any good deals on laptops that fit in my price range?   • Displaying build times in Visual Studio?

    Our build server is taking too long to build one of our C++ projects. It uses Visual Studio 2008. Is there any way to get devenv.com to log the time taken to build each project in the solution, so that I know where to focus my efforts? Improved hardware is not an option in this case. I've tried setting the output verbosity (under Tools / Options / Projects and Solutions / Build and Run / MSBuild project build output verbosity). This doesn't seem to have any effect in the IDE. When running MSBuild from the command line (and, for Visual Studio 2008, it needs to be MSBuild v3.5), it displays the total time elapsed at the end, but not in the IDE. I really wanted a time-taken report for each project in the solution, so that I could figure out where the build process was taking its time. Alternatively, since we actually use NAnt to drive the build process (we use Jetbrains TeamCity), is there a way to get NAnt to tell me the time taken for each step?

  • Can I add a file and burn an .iso at once?

    I just downloaded a Windows 7 iso from MSDNAA at school and they gave me a personal key. I'd like to add a file with my key onto the disc, but it has to remain bootable. Is there a really simple way to do this, or one that doesn't require some shareware? I'm using XP right now, or any solution under ubuntu is fine.

  • How to get started with embedded systems in the airline or submarine industries?

    Hi, Not 100% sure how to frame this question but here goes... I currently work as a Rails developer but want to work on more substancial / "meaty" projects and have always been very interested in embedded systems, especially systems that run on aircraft and especially submarines.....I know strange combination. I have been doing some searching & found lockheed martin produces a lot of underwater systems for various navys around the world e.g. http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/nssn/ However, there is very little information about what software is used within these systems, what OS's they use or anything else "technical", presume there is a lot of C / C++ involved but that is just a guess... so its hard to know where to even begin learning what is required to potential work in these areas. Just wondering if anyone has any experiance working with or more information about embeddeed systems in either the airline (onboard flight systems) or especially submarine systems? Thanks!

    My UI is not updating when I expect it to. The application displays "projects" using a view similar to iTunes -- a source list on the left lets you filter a list (NSTableView) on the right. My filters update properly when they are examining any simple field (like name, a string), but not for arrays (like tags). I'm removing a tag from one of my objects (from an NSMutableArray field called "tags") and I expect it to disappear from the list because it no longer matches the predicate that is bound to my table's NSArrayController.     Dear ladies and sirs. I have a master.proj msbuild script which builds several projects using the MSBuild task. Here is a typical example: <Target Name="Log4PostSharp" DependsOnTargets="log4net"> <MSBuild Projects="Log4PostSharp\Log4PostSharp.sln" Properties="Configuration=$(Configuration)" /> </Target> But, my problem is that if more properties are given on the command line, they are not passed to the MSBuild task.   • Monodevelop: "Are you missing an assembly reference?" despite reference being added

    I have a solution with 3 projects. Two of the projects compile fine: SparkleLib and SparkleLib.Cmis The third project (SparkleShare) depends on the two above, so I added them as references, but I get: The type or namespace name 'Cmis' does not exist in the namespace 'SparkleLib'. Are you missing an assembly reference? The error indicates that I should add SparkleLib.Cmis as a reference, but I already added it... I tried deleteting, re-adding, restarting, but no success. It is not a problem with my environment, as my fellow developers are having the same problem.

    I am trying to view camera feed from a Logitech9000 camera using DSVL(DirectShow Video Library) http://sourceforge.net/projects/dsvideolib/. I tried changing the flip_v value to true in the config above but it did not make any difference. Any suggestions?

    Since I installed Windows 8 Preview on my personal computer, during the installation of some programs and drivers(Windows 7 ones) started to pop me a message warning that .Net Framework 3.5 was needed: I could use "Install this feature", start to download some dependencies(300MB) and that's it, but I don't want to have to download it every time I want to enable this feature on every machine that I install Windows 8. There is some way to install .Net 3.5 on Windows 8 without having to download the entire Framework from Microsoft?

  • How do people manage changes to common library files stored across mutiple (Mercurial) repositories?

    This is perhaps not a question unique to Mercurial, but that's the SCM that I've been using most lately. I work on multiple projects and tend to copy source code for libraries or utilities from a previous project to get a leg up on starting a new project. The problem comes in when I want to merge all the changes I made in my latest project, back into a "master" copy of those shared library files. Since the files stored in disjoint repositories will have distinct version histories, Mercurial won't be able to perform an intelligent merge if I just copy the files back to the master repo (or even between two independent projects). I'm looking for an easy way to preserve the change history so I can merge library files back to the master with a minimum of external record keeping (which is one of the reasons I'm using SVN less as merges require remembering when copies were made across branches). Perhaps I need to do a bit more up-front organization of my repository to prepare for a future merge back to a common master.

    I'm still a pretty new project, and I haven't really worked on any large projects yet. However a few projects for school has shown me something I have never really thought of before. Pre-Project planning. One project we ran into a huge problem at the very last minute, and the other project was not divided up between partners very evenly, such that all the work was actually done at the end. So my question to everyone here is: How do you plan out the project beforehand? Please try to cover the following: Design (draw out UI by hand, UMLs, etc.) Division of Labor Timeline (especially how you estimate how much time is needed for certain things) and anything else you can think of.     I'm one of those people who can't get anything done without a to-do list. If it isn't on the list it doesn't exist. Notepad Method: When I'm programming I've been keeping notepad open with a list of to-do's for my current project. I'll constantly re-arrange these based off priority and I cross them off and move them to the completed section when I'm finished with that particular task.     Hi All, I am planning to use Apache lucense in one of my projects, I want to index files based on the file properties (I won’t be indexing the data) and I want lucense to query the index so that I can quickly find list of files to based on the properties . E.g: give me all the files with access time greater than 10/10/2005 and access time less than 10/04/2010 and file created by james. Can i use Lucene for these kind of projects ? or i better of using windows search (the foor print is very heavy almost 5 MB :( ) and i have to bundling this as part of my application is seems to tough.   • Finding IterationID in TFS

    Hi - we are linking Iterations within TFS to an external system for tracking projects through the entire company. In the past, we were linking using the IterationPath in a TFS Project, but the problem is that people rename these IterationPaths as the projects progress, and the link is lost. So after some research, I'm thinking of doing the linking by using the IterationID. The IterationID in the TFSWarehouse is NOT the same as the IterationID in the WorkItemTracking table, and I can't seem to find an easy way to find the IterationID of an IterationPath? Anyone got any idea how we may be able to achieve this?

  • How to manage Libraries/jar files in eclipse?

    I might be missing something but how do you manage Java projects in eclipse that need a lot of Jar files. I know maven manages libraries well if there are new updates but maybe I'm missing something, is there a way that eclipse can update new jar files (it would be especially useful for projects using apache-commons, say). I don't want to sound like asking for a feature request, but I'm looking at if there are ways to keep libraries jar files that a Java project uses to keep them updated automatically the way maven does. With more languages coming with this type of features, finding the right Jar files probably should be easier than this.

    I've upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 (64bit) and I found that the very convenient Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall will not work on this version. I hear the Windows 7 firewall is good enough(even though it never prompts for outbound connections) but Kerio had a nice network monitor feature which showed all applications with inbound and outbound connections and the current speed and bytes transferred for each one. Is there any software out there that can give me similar monitoring as what Kerio does? TCPView is almost as good, but doesnt show transfer statistics.

  • Git is ignoring .git directories in subdirectories

    I'm using git as a backup tool and 'roaming profile' for my $HOME directory between laptop and desktop. My problem is that under my $HOME I have a Development directory with multiple git projects I'm working on. Git will not allow me to add the subdirectories .git folders. So to commit to these projects I have to push the changes into my $HOME git repo, pull on laptop (where they were created and .git dir exsits) and commit. I've read about submodules, but it's not really what I want. I just want the children .git folders to be treated like any old directory so I can move them around and back them up. Has anyone done this or have an idea how I would?
