  I've been working on a little Silverlight utility which calls a Silverlight web service. It works from my dev machine (XPsp2). I've tried publishing it to a 2008 R2 IIS 7.5 server and it doesn't work when trying to contact the web service. So I've tried using the WcfTestClient to connect to the web service. • Why does Internet Explorer break "pegman" display in Google Maps API v3?

  On my site here, the SteetView control, aka "Pegman", works great under Firefox. Under IE (7 in this case, but tested on 8 as well - same result) it breaks the display of the pegman control. I just want to get the latest version from the remote copy, and overwrite anything on my local copy. Edit: I tried everything. I deleted my local repo, and git clone ssh://[email protected]/directory ... Checking out files: 100%, done. git status On branch master nothing to commit (working directory clean) All looks good, right? Pull just in case. git pull Already up-to-date. • Ray-box Intersection Theory

  Hello: I wish to determine the intersection point between a ray and a box. The box is defined by its min 3D coordinate and max 3D coordinate and the ray is defined by its origin and the direction to which it points. Currently, I am forming a plane for each face of the box and I'm intersecting the ray with the plane. If the ray intersects the plane, then I check whether or not the intersection point is actually on the surface of the box. If so, I check whether it is the closest intersection for this ray and I return the closest intersection. The way I check whether the plane-intersection point is on the box surface itself is through a function bool PointOnBoxFace(R3Point point, R3Point corner1, R3Point corner2) { double min_x = min(corner1.X(), corner2.X()); double max_x = max(corner1.X(), corner2.X()); double min_y = min(corner1.Y(), corner2.Y()); double max_y = max(corner1.Y(), corner2.Y()); double min_z = min(corner1.Z(), corner2.Z()); double max_z = max(corner1.Z(), corner2.Z()); if(point.X() >= min_x && point.X() <= max_x && point.Y() >= min_y && point.Y() <= max_y && point.Z() >= min_z && point.Z() <= max_z) return true; return false; } where corner1 is one corner of the rectangle for that box face and corner2 is the opposite corner. My implementation works most of the time but sometimes it gives me the wrong intersection. I was wondering if the way I'm checking whether the intersection point is on the box is correct or if I should use some other algorithm. Thanks.

• Positioning Layers and text gradients with css

  I'm a CSS newbie trying to get some text gradients going on. I tried this code here but it didn't work for me, most likely because the h1 object is nested within a #header div. I imagine there's something to do with layers that I don't know about. Either I get a gradent block that is in front of everything or it's not appearing at all. Stuck. What I tried: git filter-branch --index-filter 'git rm --cached --ignore-unmatch file_name' rm -Rf .git/refs/original rm -Rf .git/logs/ git gc Still have files in the pack, and this is how I know it: git verify-pack -v .git/objects/pack/pack-3f8c0...bb.idx | sort -k 3 -n | tail -3 And this: git filter-branch --index-filter "git rm -rf --cached --ignore-unmatch file_name" HEAD rm -rf .git/refs/original/ && git reflog expire --all && git gc --aggressive --prune The same... Tried git clone trick, it removed some of the files (~3000 of them) but the largest files are still there... I have some large legacy files in the repository, ~200M, and I really don't want them there... • Google Maps API DirectionsRendererOptions not working?

  I am trying to use DirectionsRenderer to display a DirectionsResult without the route list. According to the API version 3 documentation, there is a "hideRouteList" property of the DirectionsRendererOptions object that when set to true should hide the route list. I cannot get it to work. Is this a bug or am I just not coding this correctly?   Hi everybody, I'm currently reading the Mathematica Guidebooks for Programming and I was trying to work out one of the very first program of the book. Basically, when I run the following program: Plot3D[{Re[Exp[1/(x + I y)]]}, {x, -0.02, 0.022}, {y, -0.04, 0.042}, PlotRange -> {-1, 8}, PlotPoints -> 120, Mesh -> False, ColorFunction -> Function[{x1, x2, x3}, Hue[Arg[Exp[1/(x1 + I x2)]]]]] either I get a 1/0 error and e^\infinity error or, if I lower the PlotPoints options to, say, 60, an overflow error. I have a working output though, but it's not what it's supposed to be. The hue seems to be diffusing off the left corner whereas it should be diffusing of the origin (as can be seen on the original output) Here is the original program which apparently runs on Mathematica 5 (Trott, Mathematica Guidebook for Programming): Off[Plot3D::gval]; Plot3D[{Re[Exp[1/(x + I y)]], Hue[Arg[Exp[1/(x + I y)]]]}, {x, -0.02, 0.022}, {y, -0.04, 0.042}, PlotRange -> {-1, 8}, PlotPoints -> 120, Mesh -> False] Off[Plot3D::gval]; However, ColorFunction used this way (first Plot3D argument) doesn't work and so I tried to simply adapt to its new way of using it.   Hello, while starting JBoss 5.1.0.GA in virtual server machine on Debian (linux-VServer technology) I get the following error: ERROR [org.jboss.kernel.plugins.dependency.AbstractKernelController] (main) Error installing to Start: name=jboss.remoting:protocol=rmi,service=JMXConnectorServer state=Create mode=Manual requiredState=Installed java.io.IOException: Cannot bind to URL [rmi://10.1.2.11:1090/jmxconnector]: javax.naming.NoPermissionException [Root exception is java.rmi.ServerException: RemoteException occurred in server thread; nested exception is: java.rmi.AccessException: Registry.Registry.bind disallowed; origin /AA.BB.CC.DD is non-local host] where AA.BB.CC.DD is host machine name, 10.1.2.11 is vserver guest with JBoss and JBoss is started with -b 10.1.2.11 (I also tried -Djboss.bind.address=10.1.2.11 - the same result). 10.1.2.11 is bound to dummy2 interface on host (serving 10.1.2.1 network). The root exception is strange - why JBoss wants to bind to host address AA.BB.CC.DD? There were no problems with 4.2.3.GA on the same machine, also started with -b 10.1.2.11. It starts correctly when no params present - binds to localhost and everything is ok, but it MUST be bound to 10.1.2.11 to be visible by Apache on another vserver guest, acting as proxy. I thought that it can be fixed by setting net.ipv4.conf.all.promote_secondaries=1 via sysctl (was 0) but it didn't help much. Has anyone had such problem? Regards, bart

• Programmatically creating vector arrows in KML

  Does anyone have any practical examples of programmatically drawing icons as vectors in KML? Specifically, I have data with a magnitude and an azimuth at given coordinates, and I would like to have icons (or another graphical element) generated based on these values. Some thoughts on how I might approach it: Image directory (a brute force way): Make an image director of 360 different image files (probably batch rotate a single image) each pointing in a cooresponding azimuth. I've seen things like "Excel to KML," but am looking for code that I can use within a program, rather than a web utility. Issue: Arrow does not contain magnitude context, so that would have to be a label. I'd rather dynamically lengthen the arrow. Line creation in KML: Perhaps create a formula that creates a line with the origin at the coordinate points, with the length of the line proportional to the magnitute, and angled according to azimuth. There would then be two more lines, perhaps 30 degrees or so extending from the end of the previous line to make the arrow head. Issues: Not a separate image icon, so not sure how it would work in KML. Also not sure how easy it would be to generate this algorithm. Separate image generation: Perhaps create a PHP file that uses imagemagick or something similar to dynamically generate a .png file in a similar method to the above, and then link to the icon using the URI "domain.tld/imagegen.php?magnitude=magvalue&azimuth=azmvalue". Issue: Still have the problem of actually writing the algorithm for image generation. So, the question: has anyone else come up with solutions for programmatic vector (rather than merely arrow) generation?

• In WPF 3D, why can't a perspective camera's LookDirection be straight down?

  I'm attempting to position my perspective camera 30 units above the origin and pointing straight down. If I set the LookDirection of the camera to "0,0,-1", however, everything disappears. I have to make it "0.01,0.01,-1" for it to work.   I'm having a strange problem that I don't understand. I have a UIScrollView with several UITextField objects. When I switch to the view, I set the first UITextField as firstresponder, and the keyboardWasShown method gets called due to the UIKeyboardDidShowNotification that the view is registered for. The weird thing is, when I touch the next UITextField, the keyboardWasShown method is not called. I don't understand this, since Apple's documentation says "If your interface has multiple text fields, the user can tap between them to edit the values in each one. When that happens, however, the keyboard does not disappear but the system does still generate UIKeyboardDidShowNotification notifications each time editing begins in a new text field." My code I've copied directly from Apple's documentation as well, and it works properly, but it only gets called the first time. • ASP.Net MVC: "Random" URLs getting generated by URL.Action

  I have 2 very similar routes, just because i'm trying to generate two different URLs for the same resource (same Controller/Action), and both are very similar. These are the routes definitions: routes.MapRoute("Post2.Mp3", "sites/{siteSlug}/post/{brand}/aconstant-{slug}.mp3", new { controller = "Posts", action = "Mp3" }, new { siteSlug = @"[A-Za-z0-9-_]+", slug = @"[^(aconstant\-)][A-Za-z0-9-_]+", brand = @"[A-Za-z0-9-_]+" }); routes.MapRoute("Post.Mp3", "sites/{siteSlug}/post/{slug}.mp3", new { controller = "Posts", action = "Mp3" }, new { siteSlug = @"[A-Za-z0-9-_]+", slug = @"[A-Za-z0-9-_]+" }); "brand" is going to be my site name, which is the same as "aconstant" in those routes. Now, if I try this: Url.Action("ShowMp3", "Posts", new { siteSlug = post.Site.Slug, slug = post.Slug, origin = "origfeedwithaudio", brand = "aconstant" }) sometimes I get the URL I expect: /sites/site-Name/post/aconstant/aconstant-post-Name.mp3 but sometimes, I get this: /sites/site-Name/post/post-Name.mp3?brand=aconstant By sometimes, I mean that different sets of "slugs" give me one or the other. I haven't seen the same set of slugs give me different URLs. I haven't found any reasonable rule for when i'm getting one or the other, it seems random. What is going on here? How can I be getting different URLs based on esentially the same arguments? Thanks! Daniel
