• Why doesn't unity show icons or panel after installing numix theme?

  I'm a beginner to Ubuntu/Linux and I have a problem: Unity is not loading! When I choose Unity in the log-in screen, I get notifications and I can see the mouse, but that's it. I have Ubuntu 14.04 installed, along with Bumblebee/Primus. I had no issues whatsoever, until I decided to try the numix-theme and the numix icon pack. I added the PPA and installed it, but when I logged off and logged back on, nothing showed up. I panicked, and in tty1, I purged numix-* but that did not solve the issue. To get by day-to-day use, I installed gnome-flashback, and among those environments, only the metacity one works. (The compiz one does not.) I've tried installing the unity-tweak-tool to reset unit, installing dconf and doing: dconf reset -f /org/compiz/ but that didn't work either. One site even told me to delete /org/compiz/, but that did not resolve the issue. When I checked ccsm, the Unity plugin had a check to it. I also tried with Unity doesn't load, no Launcher, no Dash appears, but it gets stuck on "loading icons". Any help will be awesome!

• Branding/Restricting a Software by License/Serial

  I have made a POS System for a client of mine using MS Access Server-Client approach. He asked me to brand his software to allow only a certain "number" of users (cashiers) to access the POS System, and must be determined to the license his client will buy. EX: 10 User License = 10 Cashiers ( not necessarily 10 users, it can be 30 users, shifting) = it means 10 PCs will be installed with the client software I made. How and where do I put the logic that will determine if it is licensed or not. What I have done: I have created a serial key generator using Name. Problem is it can be duplicated once you give than name+serial combination, it would still work. I am counting the number of users logged at a time. This could be problematic as I am using MSAccess and not MSSQL. I have scrapped this idea, He also asked me if I could just put serial+mac address combination. That I could do but he will have a hard time implementing it and selling it if he needs the mac address of every computers to be installed with my POS. I am at lost on what can I do. Would like to ask for tips and suggestions. Thank you.

• Design practice for securing data inside Azure SQL

  Update: I'm looking for a specific design practice as we try to build-our-own database encryption. Azure SQL doesn't support many of the encryption features found in SQL Server (Table and Column encryption). We need to store some sensitive information that needs to be encrypted and we've rolled our own using AesCryptoServiceProvider to encrypt/decrypt data to/from the database. This solves the immediate issue (no cleartext in db) but poses other problems like Key rotation (we have to roll our own code for this, walking through the db converting old cipher text into new cipher text) metadata mapping of which tables and which columns are encrypted. This is simple when it's just couple of columns (send an email to all devs/document) but that quickly gets out of hand ... So, what is the best practice for doing application level encryption into a database that doesn't support encryption? In particular, what is a good design to solve the above two bullet points? If you had specific schema additions would love it if you could give details ("Have a NVARCHAR(max) column to store the cipher metadata as JSON" or a SQL script/commands). If someone would like to recommend a library, I'd be happy to stay away from "DIY" too. Before going too deep - I assume there isn't any way I can add encryption support to Azure by creating a stored procedure, right?

• Rotate triangle so that its tip points in the direction of the point on the screen that we last touched

  OpenGL ES - Android. Hello all, I am unable to rotate the triangle accordingly in such a way that its tip always points to my finger. What i did : Constructed a triangle in by GL.GL_TRIANGLES. Added touch events to it. I can rotate the triangle along my Z-axis successfully. Even made the vector class for it. What i need : Each time when I touch the screen, I want to rotate the triangle to face the touch point. Need some help. Here's what i implemented. I wonder that where i am going wrong?   I recently shifted to Ubuntu 12.04 from windows 7. I completely removed Windows and then installed Ubuntu. However, I can't find a way to download and install drivers for my video and audio hardware like I used to be able to do in Windows. Could someone please explain to me how software and drivers, in general, are installed on Ubuntu. Is installing through 'Ubuntu Software Center' the only way to install them? My laptop model is: Dell Inspiron 14 N4010 (i5/4gb/500gb). Kindly help. Thanks in advance.

• Should I be concerned about hAtom tags on my blog?

  I am using a theme that automatically adds hatom-entry, hatom-feed classes on my WordPress blog. I read that such tags/classes should be used for syndicated content. Anyway, then I ran a Rich Snippet Tool, which threw a "HAtomfeed" error. So I removed a "hfeed" div tag. Now, should I be concerned? Can this cause any problems? I still have a couple of these classes (listed below), and I just hope they do not effect my site's ranking. • Best Way to Handle Meta Information in a SQL Database

  I've got a database where I want to store user information and user_meta information. The reason behind setting it up in this way was because the user_meta side may change over time and I would like to do this without disrupting the master user table. If possible, I would like some advice on how to best set up this meta data table. • Synchronize Azure SQL (cloud) with Azure SQL Emulator (local)?

  We have an Azure service (web role) that heavily depends on the database. For offline development/testing, we'd like to have the app+db run offline within the emulators. Running the webrole itself within the emulator is straightforward but doing so for the Azure SQL storage isn't so. What is the simplest way to ensure that the cloud Azure SQL database and the emulator/local Azure SQL database are in sync? We can afford some level of staleness for simplicity of sync operation (meaning it's ok for the local copy to be a few hours stale versus mirroring every write as soon as it happens) Thanks

  I have a CentOS (5.7 Final) system on which I already have Apache (2.2.3) installed. • Why would a WebService return nulls when the actual service returns data?

  I have a webservice (out of my control) that I have to talk to. I also have a packet-sniffer on the line, and (SURPRISE!!!) the developers of the webservice aren't lying. They are actually sending back all of the data that I requested. But the web-service code that is auto-generated from the WSDL file is giving me "null" as a value. I used their WSDL file to generate my Web Reference. I checked my data types with the datatypes that the WSDL file has declared. And I used the code as listed below to perform the calls: DT_MaterialMaster_LookupRequest req = new DT_MaterialMaster_LookupRequest(); req.MaterialNumber = "101*"; req.DocumentNo = ""; req.Description = "Pipe*"; req.Plant = "0000"; MI_MaterialMaster_Lookup_OBService srv = new MI_MaterialMaster_Lookup_OBService(); DT_MaterialMaster_Response resp = srv.MI_MaterialMaster_Lookup_OB(new DT_MaterialMaster_LookupRequest[] { req }); // Note that the response here is ALWAYS null!! • Mod Rewrite Help - Pseudo-Subdirectories

  I am dealing with a frustrating problem with Joomla that is going to require some url trickery. The idea is straight-forward but after reading a bunch of guides for mod-rewrite, I still can't seem to get it work. Let's say my site is www.mysite.com. Joomla is already performing some rewriting for SEF urls so I have links like www.mysite.com/home and www.mysite.com/news and so on. I want to be able to have (4) pseudo-subdirectories like www.mysite.com/mode1/ and www.mysite.com/mode2/ and so on. These subdirectories should work as if the subdirectory isn't there, ie both www.mysite.com/mode1/home and www.mysite.com/mode2/home should pull up the same www.mysite.com/home. It should point any www.mysite.com/mode1/anypagehere to www.mysite.com/anypagehere. The reason I am asking for this is because I will be reading the url for mode1, mode2, etc, to modify the template page. There will be a landing page that will direct people to /mode1/ and /mode2/ etc and the template will change based on that. Note, that I don't want to actually pass a parameter to the url accessible by a GET or whatever because Joomla removes it (perhaps because of my current mod_rewrite settings). • Mixing SSL and non-SSL content in an Apache2 virtual host

  I have a (hopefully) common scenario for one of my sites that I just can't seem to figure out how to deploy correctly. I have the following site and directories for example.com: These need to require SSL: /var/www/example.com/admin /var/www/example.com/order These need to be non-SSL: /var/www/example.com/maps These need to support both: /var/www/example.com/css /var/www/example.com/js /var/www/example.com/img I have two virtual host declarations for the one site in my /sites-available/example.com file; the top one is *:443 the second one is *:80. Since I have two sites, and if a request comes in on 443, the top virtualhost is used, same with the bottom if it's a port 80 request. However, I can't seem to enforce my SSL requirements using SSLRequireSSL because I'm assuming a port 80 request to /admin or /order is not even hitting the *:443 vhost. Should I just Deny All to /order and /admin within the *:80 virtual host so that if you try to request it on 80, you'll get a 403 Forbidden?

• How to manage sub-domains on WinHost with IIS7 URL Rewrite 2.0?

  I'm trying out WinHost and I'm running into some issues with sub-domains. On WinHost, you can have multiple sub-domains per hosting account, but each sub-domain points to the root website. E.g. you can have www.example.com, sub1.example.com, and sub2.example.com but all of them display the content at http://www.example.com/. Other Hosts allow you to point sub-domains to a sub folder in your website. This would allow you to point sub1.example.com to /sub1, sub2.example.com to /sub2 and www.example.com to /. WinHost recommends using an asp/aspx page to redirect http://sub1.example.com to http://sub1.example.com/sub1, which points to /sub1. While that would work, I'd like to not have the subdomain in the url twice. So I tried using IIS7 URL Rewrite to point http://sub1.example.com to /sub1. Ben Powell describes this in detail on his blog. This is great, except Request.ApplicationPath is now /sub1/path/to/current/page.aspx, which breaks ASP.Net Themes (and probably other stuff too). What can I do to fix the ApplicationPath? Is there a better way to accomplish this?

  I have an issue with one of my computer on my network. It is an iMac running OS X 10.5.8. The issue is accessing certain websites. For instance, one of these websites is that the computer is unable to connect to is farmville.com. I looked for the web.config file but didn't find it. I new at this and i would really appreciate it if you can explain more detailed. Thanks

• nginx subdomains improperly act like wildcard?

  I have an odd problem with nginx subdomains. First, my configuration: server { listen 443 ssl; server_name secure.example.com; ssl_certificate example.crt; ssl_certificate_key example.key; keepalive_timeout 70; location / { fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:8000; ... } } server { listen 80; server_name example.com www.example.com; location / { fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:8000; ... } } The idea being that I have a secure domain, secure.example.com and a normal domain, example.com. In practice, I can go to https://example.com and http://secure.example.com. I worked around the second issue with an intermediary server: server { listen 80; server_name secure.example.com; rewrite ^(.*) https://secure.example.com$1 permanent; } But this is not an optimal solution and I'd have to create another one to redirect https on the tld to the subdomain. I feel like I must be doing something wrong if I need multiple servers like that. Why does https://example.com work when there is no server listening on 443 there? Shouldn't it just fail to connect? I'm rather confused.
