• Why does GetClusterShape return null when the cluster specification was retrieved through the GetClu

  Suppose I have a virtual earth shape layer called shapeLayer1 (my creative energy is apparently at an alltime low). When i call the GetClusteredShapes method I get an array of VEClusterSpecification objects that represent each and every one of my currently visible clusters; no problem there. But when I call the GetClusterShape() method it returns null... null! Why on earth would it do that? I used firebug to confirm that the private variable of the VEClusterSpecification that's supposed to hold a reference to the shape is indeed null so it's not the method that's causing the problem. Some have suggested that this is actually documented behavior Returns null if a VEClusterSpecification object was returned from the VEShapeLayer.GetClusteredShapes Method But looking at the current MSDN documentation for the VEShape class it says: Returns if a VEClusterSpecification object was returned from the VEShapeLayer.GetClusteredShapes Method Is this a bug or a feature? Is there any known workarounds or (if it is a bug) some plan on when they are going to fix it?

• Multiple actions upon a case statement in Haskell

  One last question for the evening, I'm building the main input function of my Haskell program and I have to check for the args that are brought in so I use args <- getArgs case length args of 0 -> putStrLn "No Arguments, exiting" otherwise -> { other methods here} Is there an intelligent way of setting up other methods, or is it in my best interest to write a function that the other case is thrown to within the main? Or is there an even better solution to the issue of cases. I've just got to take in one name.

  How do I accumulate values in t-SQL? AFAIK there is no ARRAY type. I want to reuse the values like demonstrated in this PostgreSQL example using array_agg(). • Is there a way in PHP to check if a directory is a symlink?

  The title says it all. I have symlinks to certain directories because the directories' names have non English characters that I got fed up trying to get apache's rewrite rules to match. There's a bounty on that question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2916194/trouble-with-utf-8-chars-apache2-rewrite-rulesif anyone wants to go for it, and from the looks of things a lot of people would like to see a general solution to this problem, but meanwhile I made a plain ascii symlink to each of these offending directories. Now the rewrite rules are back to just alpha and _ and - and my security concerns are less and it loads the resources I want. But I still need the actual target directory name for display purposes. I googled "PHP directory info, PHP symlink" but didn't find anything. I need to do something like this: if (is_symlink($myResDirName)) { $realDirName = follow_symlink($myResDirName); }

  What's the best/canonical way to define a function with optional named arguments? To make it concrete, let's create a function foo with named arguments a, b, and c, which default to 1, 2, and 3, respectively. For comparison, here's a version of foo with positional arguments: foo[a_:1, b_:2, c_:3] := bar[a,b,c] Here is sample input and output for the named-arguments version of foo: foo[] --> bar[1,2,3] foo[b->7] --> bar[1,7,3] foo[a->6, b->7, c->8] --> bar[6,7,8] It should of course also be easy to have positional arguments before the named arguments.

• What is lifetime of lambda-derived implicit functors in C++ ?

  The question is simple: what is lifetime of that functor object that is automatically generated for me by the C++ compiler when I write a lambda-expression? I did a quick search, but couldn't find a satisfactory answer. In particular, if I pass the lambda somewhere, and it gets remembered there, and then I go out of scope, what's going to happen once my lambda is called later and tries to access my stack-allocated, but no longer alive, captured variables? Or does the compiler prevent such situation in some way? Or what?

• Dealing with multiple Javascript IF statements.

  Is it possible to put multiple IF statements in Javascript? If so, I'm having a fair amount of trouble with the statement below. I was wondering if you can put another IF statement in between if (data == 'valid') AND else? • Python: re-initialize a function's default value for subsequent calls to the function.

  I have a function that calls itself to increment and decrement a stack. I need to call it a number of times, and I'd like it to work the same way in subsequent calls but, as expected, it doesn't re-use the default value. I've read that this is a newbie trap and I've seen suggested solutions, but I haven't been able to make any solution work. • Testing for existence using SELECT WHERE HAVING and NOT HAVING in a grouped subset

  I have data on which I need to count +1 if a particular condition exists or another condition doesn't exist. I'm using SQL Server 2008. I shred the following simplified sample XML into a temp table and validate it: <product type="1"> <param type="1"> <item mode="0" weight="1" /> </param> <param type="2"> <item mode="1" weight="1" /> <item mode="0" weight="0.1" /> </param> <param type="3"> <item mode="1" weight="0.75" /> <item mode="1" weight="0.25" /> </param> </product> The validation in concern is the following rule: For each product type, for each param type, mode may be 0 & (1 || 2). In other words, there may be a 0(s), but then 1s or 2s are required, or there may be only 1(s) or 2(s). There cannot be only 0s, and there cannot be 1s and 2s. The only part I haven't figured out is how to detect if there are only 0s. This seems like a "not having" problem. The validation code (for this part): WITH t1 AS ( SELECT SUM(t.ParamWeight) AS S, COUNT(1) AS C, t.ProductTypeID, t.ParamTypeID, t.Mode FROM @t AS t GROUP BY t.ProductTypeID, t.ParamTypeID, t.Mode ), ... UNION ALL SELECT TOP (1) 1 -- only mode 0 & (1 || 2) is allowed FROM t1 WHERE t1.Mode IN (1, 2) GROUP BY t1.ProductTypeID, t1.ParamTypeID HAVING COUNT(1) > 1 UNION ALL ... ) SELECT @C = COUNT(1) FROM t2 This will show if any mode 1s & 2s are mixed, but not if the group contains only a 0. I'm sure there is a simple solution, but it's evading me right now. EDIT: I thought of a "cheat" that works perfectly. I added the following to the above: SELECT TOP (1) 1 -- only mode 0 & (null || 1 || 2) is allowed FROM t1 GROUP BY t1.ProductTypeID, t1.ParamTypeID HAVING SUM(t1.Mode) = 0 However, I'd still like to know how to do this without cheating.

In Js objects are associative arrays so every properties is accessible with the subscript notation... Can I add a method at run-time to a class template so next its object instances can have it? • Compiler/Linking Error: Freedup

  I've been trying to compile a program for hardlinking duplicate files called freedup. I did try to email the author/maintainer of the program, but it's been a long time and I haven't heard anything back from him. I'm trying to compile the program from a cygwin environment using the latest stable versions of gcc (3.4.4-999) and make (3.81-2). I've tried deleting all the object files and running make, but I always get the following error: freedup.o: In function 'main': /home/[user]/freedup-1.5/freedup.c:1791: undefined reference to '_hashed' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: * * * [freedup] Error 1 I did take a look at the source code and saw that the "hashed" function is an inline function (which I didn't think had to be declared outside of the source file... but that's just what I gathered from some preliminary googling). If anyone would be kind enough to try compiling this program in a windows environment and has any luck, I'd really appreciate it. I am wondering if anyone can provide a hint on how to hoop up my costome MyInputFormat to PIG's UDF loader? Much Thanks. I am using PIG on Amazon EMR.

It looks like this: function findRelations(members){ var wires = new Array(); var count = 0; for (n = 0; n < members.length; n++){ alert(members.length); // this alert is undefined if (members[n].connection){ for (i = 0; i < members[n].connection[0].length; i++){ var mw = new Array(); var destination = 0; for (m = 0; m < members.length; m ++){ if (members[m] == members[n].connection[0]){ destination = m; mw = [n, destination]; wires [count] = mw; count++; } } } } } return wires; } However, when I run this function, I get nothing. And the first alert, which is placed inside the function shows 'undefined' at all. findRelations(members); alert("Found " + wires.length + " connections"); I guess that's because of JavaScript literal. Could you suggest how to change a function or perhaps to change litteral to JSON array to get it work?! And at the end to get 'm' and 'n' values as numbers.
