• how to fix asyncmac.sys infection

  AVG anti-virus tells me that there is a virus in my asyncmac.sys. I tried to overwrite it with a copy of asyncmac.sys from another computer (making sure that it was the same version of Windows XP, but I was still nervous that I was going to break something), but when I reboot, I get the same virus warning. If I try to delete the file Windows (or somebody) automatically and immediately puts it back. I get a blue-screen death if I try to boot in safe mode. I tried to do a system restore to before I had the virus, but it tells me that it can't restore because nothing has changed. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

• Problem upgrading kernel on debian 3.1

  Hi, I have a quite old box in a remote server farm. So I have no direct access. Only remote SSH (and via SSH to a serial console). I haven't updated this box in ages. Now, whenever I want to install a new package, a dependency to glibc appears. Unfortunately, the install of glibc depends on a 2.6 kernel and I am running a venerable 2.4 kernel (one more reason to upgrade). The problem is, that the install of a new kernel has an indirect (over locales) dependency to glibc. So, to install glibc, I need a new kernel. For a new kernel, I need to upgrade glibc. Essentially I am blocked. What's the best way to proceed considering I have no "hardware" access? • jQuery Tabs remove icon

  Using jQuery Tabs script with an icon to remove the tab but this code renders differntly in IE8 and Firefox 3.6.2. The problem is that Firefox wraps the tab and puts "X" signs in new row, whicle IE correctly renders it in the same row (but not centered vertically as it should but rather in the top right corner - which is still better than Firefox behaviour). • Is there a library that can decompile a method into an Expression tree, with support for CLR 4.0?

  Previous questions have asked if it is possible to turn compiled delegates into expression trees, for example: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/767733/converting-a-net-funct-to-a-net-expressionfunct The sane answers at the time were: It's possible, but very hard and there's no standard library solution. Use Reflector! But fortunately there are some greatly-insane/insanely-great people out there who like reverse engineering things, and they make difficult things easy for the rest of us. Clearly it is possible to decompile IL to C#, as Reflector does it, and so you could in principle instead target CLR 4.0 expression trees with support for all statement types. This is interesting because it wouldn't matter if the compiler's built-in special support for Expression<> lambdas is never extended to support building statement expression trees in the compiler. A library solution could fill the gap. We would then have a high-level starting point for writing aspect-like manipulations of code without having to mess with raw IL. As noted in the answers to the above linked question, there are some promising signs but I haven't succeeded in finding if there's been much progress since by searching. So has anyone finished this job, or got very far with it? Note: CLR 4.0 is now released. Time for another look-see.

• Gentoo baselayout-2 problem with module parameters

  I recently switched to baselayout-2 on my Gentoo machine but I have one problem. I autoload a module bttv with paramater: card=77,77 The problem is that at boot the module is loaded without the parameter which makes the video feed useless. I cannot find the cause because the funny thing is that when I put an echo in /etc/init.d/modules to see what is passed to modprobe, this is what I got: szymanowicz ~ # /etc/init.d/modules restart * WARNING: you are stopping a boot service * Caching service dependencies ... • Getting a users Facebook profile url

  I am creating a registry site so similar people can find each other easily. I don't want to use Facebook Connect as the primary log in method or use Facebook to store their information. I'll be creating a database on my end to store that info. For security reasons I won't be displaying the users address, phone number or email address so I wanted to provide the next best way for people to connect with each other, this is where Facebook comes in. Normally I would just ask them to type their Facebook URL in a text box but I don't think most people know what their url is which is why I think I need to use Facebook Connect. So here is my idea..when the users signs up there is a check box that when checked signifies they are allowing people to find them on Facebook. I assume once they click the register button that a Facebook Connect popup will show up asking for permission to access their Facebook account. When they "allow" it, then I can get their profile url. All I need is their Facebook profile url, I don't want any other Facebook features or information. Is Facebook Connect the best thing to use for this scenario? Is there an easier way? Several months ago on the Facebook Connect site their used to be examples of doing this, but all the documentation has been rearranged and changed and I can't seem to find the information. Any help you can provide would be great!

  I was having trouble installing irssi (brew install irssi), so I ran brew doctor, which returned a warning mentioning an outdated copy of Xcode and saying I should run /Developer/Library/uninstall-developer-folder. Then I ran brew doctor again and got: Error: No such file or directory - /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk How do I reinstall the SDK, or is there another way to get Homebrew working again? UPDATE: /Developer actually still exists (despite the obvious implication of uninstall-developer-folder), as does /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.7.sdk. Why does Homebrew specifically need Snow Leopard's SDK?

  I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks and my local Ruby on Rails development environment isn't running straight off the bat, when I visit localhost I see It works! and remembered I needed to start Phusion Passenger, so when I run passenger start it checks all the requisites and fails when it gets to the PCRE Development Headers: * Checking for PCRE development headers... Found: no It tells me to go to http://www.pcre.org/ to download them so I downloaded 8.33 from here which went to my Downloads folder, so I unzipped it, cd'd to the folder and ran: ./configure make make install Then cd'd back to my rails app directory on my Desktop and re-ran passenger start but it's still the same. Tried a new Terminal window but that didn't make any difference. I must have done this before to get my dev environment working but can't seem to solve it this time. I also tried brew install pcre but it says Warning: pcre-8.33 already installed.

• Jenkins shows same information for all projects

  I've been using Jenkins for the last month or so and what started out as a small issue has gotten worse and worse. I have 10 projects in Jenkins, all polling from different Git repos and building to different environments but they all show the same details on the dashboard. • Lexmark C532 error code won't go away

  I can't get rid of error code 84 - Yellow PC unit missing. I've just replaced all 4 photoconductors with genuine Lexmark parts and now the error code keeps appearing. I've swapped the PC units around so know it's not a faulty unit. I've followed the suggestions in the online Lexmark manuals and even called the Lexmark helpline but to no avail. any suggestions? Printer was fine until it gave me a PC unit life warning and I renewed them. Thanks.

• Can't get data with spaces into the database from Ajax POST request

  I have a real simple form with a textbox and a button, and my goal is to have an asynchronous request (jQuery: $.ajax) send the text to the server (PHP/mysql a la Joomla) so that it can be added to a database table. Here's the javascript that is sending the data from the client: var value= $('#myvalue').val(); $.ajax( { type: "POST", url: "/administrator/index.php", data: { option: "com_mycomponent", task: "enterValue", thevalue: value, format: "raw"}, dataType: "text", success: reportSavedValue } ); The problem arises when the user enters text with a space in it. The $_POST variable that I receive has all the spaces stripped out, so that if the user enters "This string has spaces", the server gets the value "Thisstringhasspaces". I have been googling around, and have found lots of references that I need to use encodeURIComponent. So I have tried it, but now the value that I get from $_POST is "This20string20has20spaces". So it appears to be encoding it the way I would expect, only to have the percent signs stripped instead of the spaces, and leaving the hex numbers. I'm really confused. It seems that this sort of question is asked and answered everywhere on the web, and everywhere encodeURIComponent is hailed as the silver bullet. But apparently I'm fighting a different breed of lycanthrope. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  I need to allow an include path for a vhost subdomain on Plesk 10. I've edited the PHP PEAR path into /etc/php.ini as I'm happy for it to be globally available: include_path = ".:/usr/share/pear/" This works insofar as PHP is able to see the files in that directory when a script tries to include them, but I'm getting the dreaded openbasedir error: Warning: require_once() [function.require-once]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/usr/share/pear/xxxx.php) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/xxxx.com/subdomains/test/httpdocs/:/tmp/) Am I right in saying that the subdomain or main domain can have a vhost.conf file in which I can alter the openbasedir allowed paths? I've tried searching out solutions but I'm afraid I can't quite see one yet :)

When i try to update the last firmware update, i receive the following error: Copy of /bootbank/sys.vgz to /tmp/stage/firmware/bank/sys.vgz failed md5sum validation (8:02:31:29.332 cpu1:1787979) warning 20-Jan-10 9:42:02 PM I updated the vmware-tools separatedly, which succeeded. I receive this message if i use the update GUI, but also when using the CLI tool. I haven't got a clue how to solve this, anyone any ideas? Or having similar problems?

• Redmine + Backlogs not working on Turnkey Linux (Ubuntu)

  I'm trying to get Redmine + Backlogs work, so for starters I took a virtual appliance with Redmine from Turnkey Linux (http://www.turnkeylinux.org/redmine) and installed Backlogs on top of it, following the installation instructions (http://www.redminebacklogs.net/en/installation/ - used method #2). It seems to have installed ok, but when I go to the "Backlogs" tab and attempt to create some stories, this is what I get - first shows some kind of error/warning icon, others continue to display "in progress" icon indefinitely (can't post a screenshot, unfortunately, but you can take a look at it here: http://www.redmine.org/attachments/5329/Backlogs.jpg). None of the stories get actually created - leaving this tab and returning back to it shows empty backlogs. So.. what am I doing wrong, and how to fix this?

• Gitosis on Mac OS X (Snow Leopard)

  Hi, I have a Snow Leopard box, where I have gitosis installed (Warning: noob alert), added a git user and I am able to remotely login to the machine with ssh. Locally, I can 'clone' my created repositories, as I can 'clone' the gitosis-admin too. Works perfect. I clone these using the 'git' user. git clone git@my-remote-machine:reponame.git remotely logged in, what doesn't work: git clone git@localhost:reponame.git However on that same remote machine where the repositories live, I can't clone from the localhost. It asks for a password, which wasn't created as far as I know. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for your replies!

  Trying to install Fedora 15 via a live USB made with unetbootin. I get to the unetbootin boot menu, select Fedora-15-x86_64-Live-Desktop.is, I get to this screen, then it drops into a debug shell with the message sh: can't access tty: job control turned off. The last message is dmseg is dracut Warning: No root device "live:/dev/disk/by-label/Fedora-15-Beta-x86_64-Live-Desktop.is" found. Seems to be the same problem detailed here. Tried to try nk1eto's solution but there is no by-label directory in /dev/disk. There's by-id, by-path and by-uuid.

  We're using CentOS and sendmail's m4 configuration. How do I set domains where emails should be delivered? I only want two domains, and would like email to all other domains blocked. I want to install 5.2.9, so I added /etc/yum.repo.d/CentOS-Testing.repo [c5-testing] name=CentOS-5 Testing baseurl=http://dev.centos.org/centos/$releasever/testing/$basearch/ enabled=0 gpgcheck=1 gpgkey=http://dev.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-testing php-5.2.9-2.el5.centos.x86_64.rpm is available http://dev.centos.org/centos/5/testing/x86_64/RPMS/ So I tried: yum clean all, *yum search php-5.2.9-2.el5.centos.x86_64.rpm* -- Warning: No matches found for: php-5.2.9-2.el5.centos.x86_64.rpm What I am doing wrong ?   We are hosting our website (http://www.redappleapartments.com) with a hosting company in Sweden. And we are using godaddy as our email provider. So, our smtp servers are smtp.europe.secureserver.net mailstore1.europe.secureserver.net Our website sends plenty of emails to our customers and we are sending via godaddy (using SMTP authentication). Some of the emails are never delivered to the recipients. And sometimes we see such warning: The hostname in the SMTP greeting does not match the reverse DNS (PTR) Can somebody out there suggest how we can solve this problem?

• Microsoft Excel Error

  I am working with a user that has Office 2007 installed. When they open excel with a blank workbook and then they try to close excel without having done anything, it gets hung for about a minute or two and then gives the warning message: "Microsoft Office Excel is waiting on another application to complete an OLE action." Has anyone ever seen this happen before? If so can you please help me figure out how to resolve this. It doesn't matter what excel file they open or if it is a blank/new workbook. Please Help.

• VMWare Fusion cannot connect to the NAT connection on my Mac

  I have been using VMWare Fusion on my Mac to check out my websites on localhost. Now I can't connect anymore with the NAT connection. There seems to be a problem with my IP address or Mac address? I have no idea what causes this, it was working fine before!? In the XP (SP2) VM, in the taskbar I see the Local Area Connection with the yellow warning icon. The bubble says: "This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be aisle to access the Internet or some network resources. For more information, click this message." Doing that opens up the Local Area Connection Status panel. In the Support tab, when I click the repair button I get following message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing IP address." Any help would be greatly appreciated.
