  If I need to offer the ability to create, view and print reports from a .NET app, I see that there are 2 options: use a reporting component such as Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer or Crystal Reports which saves a .rpt or similar template file that can be modified as required without having to re-compile the app use System.Drawing.Printing for reporting and store report template data in a database, which keeps things simpler and avoids problems with bulky third party reporting components If I want to be able to modify a report template (which would include layout and data fields) without having to re-compile the app, would the first option above achieve this? If I wanted to be able to modify the template without re-compiling the app, how could this be achieved with the second option? How could you store data representing the templates in a database such that it could be modified without having to re-compile the app?

  I'd like to use gSOAP in a product which will be distributed commercially. The use I have in mind is what I suspect is a pretty typical workflow—generating a header using wsdl2h, consuming the header with soapcpp2, and then calling the functions generated in the stub in my code. I'm not 100 percent sure which license(s) I need to use to be able to do this. Has anybody here already gone through this and figured out the solution?

  I simply would like to upload a file to my database using ColdFusion. I understand how to upload an image to a directory, but I would like to place it directly in the database. I have set a database field to varbinary(MAX) to accept the image and have the stored procedure to insert it. Currently my code for uploading the image to my file system is: <cfif isdefined("form.FileUploadImage")> <cffile action="upload" filefield="FileUploadImage" destination="#uploadfolder#" nameconflict="overwrite" accept="image/*" > </cfif> I've obviously left some of the supporting code out, but really all I need to do is get a binary representation of the file stored in memory, instead of the file system. Right now I am saving the color as a the HTML representation, but in order to use it I have to parse it out.   I struggle with finding a good medium on communication. In our jobs, it seems like it's very easy to get lost in code and lose track of time. It also seems kind of ridiculous to send out updates for every tiny task. Even though I am working very hard on getting things done, in a company that has very active communication between other branches, it tends to look bad for me when I'm not constantly updating my status. However, if I'm working on a 3-4 hour project, I'm not going to update management for every single line of code that I output.   I'm using Crystal to display the reports in my project, and I'd like to be able to display a small preview or thumbnail image of the report to the user when he or she is picking a report to display from my UI. Is there any way to produce these thumbnails dynamically from code? The user has the option to add or remove reports by adding or removing them from the reports folder, so just making all the thumbnail images by hand isn't really an option.
