I'm trying to ping an ip address and telnet to some port from an app hosted on app engine. I've tried using http://svn.pylucid.net/pylucid/CodeSnippets/ping.py but for some reason it failing

Hi,
I am unable to display images in pages created using Google App Engine(Python).
My app.yaml file has :
- url: /images
static_dir: images
And the python file has:
self.response.out.write("""<img src = '/images/title.gif' />""")
The image still does not display in the page.
Thanks
Is GQL easy to learn for someone who knows SQL? How is Django/Python? Does App Engine really make scaling easy? Is there any built-in protection against "GQL Injections"? And so on...
I'd love to hear the not-so-obvious ups and downs of using app engine.
Cheers!
Google App Engine has a great XMPP service built in. One of the few limitations it has is that it doesn't support receiving messages from a group chat. That's the one thing I want to do with it. :(
Can I run a 3rd party XMPP/Jabber server on App Engine that supports group chat?
If so, which one?
I'm just getting started on building a Python app for Google App Engine. In the localhost environment I'm trying to send debug info to the GoogleAppEngineLauncher Log Console via logging.debug(), but it isn't showing up. However, anything sent through, say, logging.info() or logging.error() does show up. I've tried a logging.basicConfig(level=logging.DEBUG) before the logging.debug(), but to no avail.
What am I missing?
I'm using Django with google app engine. I'm using the google furnished django app engine helper project.
I'm attempting to create a Django modelformset like this:
#MyModel inherits from BaseModel
MyFormSet = modelformset_factory(models.MyModel)
However, it's failing with this error:
'ModelOptions' object has no attribute 'fields'
Apparently modelformset_factory() is expecting MyModel to implement a 'fields' accessor.
Anybody successfully used a modelformset with GAE datastore? Or is this a fundamental incompatibility between Django and GAE?
Is there a way to automatically spin up an ASP.NET app pool after an IISRESET or the scheduled reset so that the initial user doesn't have to wait for the app pool to load?
Hi,
I am wondering if anyone can advise on the best way to add a FAQ page in iphone app. I would like to display a 'local' file (perhaps HTML) with local images into a web view. Essentialy to enable users access to FAQ within the app.
Any advice on whether to use HTML or any other way of doing this will be very helpful..
Thanks in advance..

There seems to be several technology demos such as http://rails-primer.appspot.com/ on how to run Rails on App Engine. What would be the easiest way to run Rails on App Engine?
I am looking for a way to programmatically obtain the path to the app.config file from within a Windows Service executable.
The build process changes App.config to program-name.exe.config and I could do something like:
var configFile = Path.Combine(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory, "program-name.exe.config");
However, I'm looking for some way of obtaining the config file name at runtime that doesn't involve hard coding the exe name into the application. ConfigurationManager has some way of doing it, so it must be possible.
I know that app config is used to provide environmental type of values for process variables. And it is very much key/value oriented.
But I have a process (windows service) that uses a skeleton xml template file to produce a fuller version of that file after processesing.
What about the idea of including that 'skeleton xml' in the app config file?
I am trying to aviod having a standalone xml skeleton file, since it is 'configuration' related, in a way.
Is it possible to query App Engine's Datastore from outside the cloud, i.e. a client application?
I could possibly write an app to be housed within AppStore and query the Datastore returning XML-formatted data; I want to know, however, if there are any Datastore endpoints which would allow me to do it directly.
Also, in case it is possible, am I able to do so via SSL?
Hi,
I'm running through the Ruby on Rails tutorial at http://guides.rubyonrails.org/getting_started.html (adjusting where appropriate for Google's App Engine). All is well up till section 6.3: when I try to click "New Post", I get the following error:
Internal Server Error (500)
Request Method: GET
Request URL: http://localhost:8080/500.html
access denied (java.io.FilePermission /dev/urandom read)
It works fine when I upload the application to Google's App Engine; it's just on my development machine (OS X 10.6) that it doesn't work.
Thanks in advance.
I've seen questions asked here before, but they do not address the issue. That said:
"In App Purchases" specifically may not be real world goods or services, according to Apple. What services allow integration with iPhone apps so that I can use ObjectiveC to sell things in an iPhone app?
I'm about to start an App Engine project for the first time. Most likely with Python. I was wondering if anybody could give me a leg up by detailing their workflow when developing for it. What tools do you use to go from start to deployed? Did you do any app engine specific configurations to those tools?
I've been investigating what I can do with Google's Secure Data Connector and App Engine.
Is it possible, from an App Engine application, to grab resources inside my corporate intranet without using HTTP(S)?
From what I read in the documentation, the only way to request resources through SDC is by using url_fetch, which is limited to HTTP, right?
In a Python Google App Engine app I'm writing, I have an entity stored in the datastore that I need to retrieve, make an exact copy of it (with the exception of the key), and then put this entity back in.
How should I do this? In particular, are there any caveats or tricks I need to be aware of when doing this so that I get a copy of the sort I expect and not something else.
Hey guys;
I have a url which leads to in image. How do i grab this image from this url into my servlet? NOTE: the web-app is deployed on google app engine.
java.net.URL myURL = "http://a3.twimg.com/profile_images/150131301/slogo4_normal.jpg";
//code to grab the image
Thank you
Hi
I am writing a GWT app running on App Engine, which needs to modify a XML File serverside. As far as I know there is no way to modify a XML file in the WAR directory or any subdirectories. What other possibilities do I have to store that data? Can I use the Data Store somehow or should I look for storage space somewhere else and access it there (if so any recommendations?)?
Any help is appreciated!
I've been looking into writing a web app that will run on Google App Engine, but before I commit myself to the platform I'd like to know what, if any, limitations there are. I'm aware of the basic CPU/bandwidth restrictions that Google places on the free service, but I'm wondering more about development restrictions like how BigTable compares to a standard relational database and what Python libraries aren't available on the GAE platform (and what alternatives Google provides).
Basically I'm looking for any hidden roadblocks before I commit to the platform. Thanks for your help!
Hi I am setting up in app purchase where user can buy different Sounds. Once bought, he can play those sounds in the App. The Sound files are all present in my Resources Folder and I just keep a record(in a plist) of the files that have been purchased.
No If I right click on the IAP file and see its content I can see the Resources, hence any one can have those sounds without actually buying them.
Is there a protected Bundle or something?

I believe I read that if you wanted to use Google's App Engine, your application needed to be open source. With the recent announcement of App Engine for Business, does the same rule apply? I would like to host an application on this particular platform but have no interest in releasing the code initially (down the road, potentially).
