  • jQuery dropdown is really jumpy

    - by Matthew Westrik
    Hi, I'm making a dropdown menu with jquery (some of the code is borrowed from a tutorial by someone, although I forget who...). When I use the dropdown, it slides up and down really fast, and I can't figure it out. What do you think? HTML <div id="nav"> <ul class="topnav"> <li><a class="selected" href="#" title="home">home</a></li> <li><a href="events/" title="events calendar">events</a></li> <li><a href="photos/" title="photo gallery">photos</a></li> <li><a href="staff/" title="faculty">staff</a> <ul class="subnav"> <li><a href="#">Luke</a></li> <li><a href="#">Darth Vader</a></li> <li><a href="#">Princess Leia</a></li> <li><a href="#">Jabba the Hutt</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="contact/" title="contact">contact</a></li> jQuery $(document).ready(function(){ $("ul.subnav").parent() .hover(function() { $(this).parent().find("ul.subnav").slideDown('fast').show(); //Drop down the subnav on hover... $(this).parent() .hover(function() { }, function(){ $(this).parent().find("ul.subnav").slideUp('slow'); }); $(this).parent().find("ul.subnav") .hover(function() { }, function(){ $(this).parent().find("ul.subnav").slideUp('slow'); }); }).hover(function() { $(this).addClass("subhover"); }, function(){ $(this).removeClass("subhover"); });

  • Jquery Flexslider - can't see navigational images (manualControl)

    - by Kim Thomas
    I've spent a lot of time looking at the post on 3/13/12 re: manual controls, but isn't getting me all the way there...probably because I don't know jquery. Sorry, newbie on board. I'm trying to get the right/left arrows to show, as well as the 1, 2, 3...at the bottom. They are there, I see the lists on Firebug, just don't know how to add them to the "hook" (?) so they appear. Here is the code I have in header: <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="jquery.flexslider.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> $(window).load(function() { $('.flexslider').flexslider({ animation: "slide", slideshow: false, controlNav: true, manualControls: ".flex-control-nav li a", controlsContainer: ".flex-container" }); }); </script> Here is my html: <div class="flex-container"> <div class="flexslider"> <ul class="slides"> <li><img src="images/tah_home.jpg" alt="taylor art house home page" width="600" height="320"/> <p class="flex-caption">Taylor Art House Home Page</p></li> <li><img src="images/tah_blog.jpg" alt="taylor art house blog page" width="600" height="320" /> <p class="flex-caption">We created a blog that fits seemlessly into Taylor Art House's look</p></li> <li><img src="images/tah_artwork_page.jpg" alt="taylor art house art page" width="600" height="320" /> <p class="flex-caption">One of Taylor Art House's gallery pages, using a Wordpress plugin</p></li> <li><img src="images/tah_arch_portfolio.jpg" alt="jon taylor architecture portfolio page" width="600" height="320" /> <p class="flex-caption">We created links to toggle from TAH to Jon Taylor Architecture</p></li> </ul> </div><!--end flexsider--> </div><!--end flex-container--> Here is the Flexslider CSS: /* * jQuery FlexSlider v1.8 * http://www.woothemes.com/flexslider/ * * Copyright 2012 WooThemes * Free to use under the MIT license. * http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php */ /* Browser Resets */ .flex-container a:active, .flexslider a:active, .flex-container a:focus, .flexslider a:focus {outline: none;} .slides, .flex-control-nav, .flex-direction-nav {margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style: none;} /* FlexSlider Necessary Styles *********************************/ .flexslider { width: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; } .flexslider .slides > li { display: none; -webkit-backface-visibility: hidden; } /* Hide the slides before the JS is loaded.   • using a PHP print_r array result in javascript/jquery

    - by Phil Jackson
    Hello all.I have a simple jquery/ajax request to the server which returns the structure and data of an array. I was wondering if there was a quick way in which I can use this array structure and data using jquery; A simple request; var token = $("#token").val(); $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: './', data: 'token=' + token + '&re=8', cache: false, timeout: 5000, success: function(html){ // do something here with the html var } }); the result ( actual result from PHP's print_r(); ); Array ( [0] => Array ( [username] => Emmalene [contents] => <ul><li class="name">ACTwebDesigns</li><li class="speech">helllllllo</li></ul> <ul><li class="name">ACTwebDesigns</li><li class="speech">sds</li></ul> <ul><li class="name">ACTwebDesigns</li><li class="speech">Sponge</li><li class="speech">dick</li></ul> <ul><li class="name">ACTwebDesigns</li><li class="speech">arghh</li></ul> ) ) I was thinking along the lines of var demo = Array(html); // and then do something with the demo var Not sure if that would work it just sprang to mind. Any help is much appreciated.

  • jQuery: Inserting li items one by one?

    - by Legend
    I wrote the following (part of a jQuery plugin) to insert a set of items from a JSON object into a <ul> element. ... query: function() { ... $.ajax({ url: fetchURL, type: 'GET', dataType: 'jsonp', timeout: 5000, error: function() { self.html("Network Error"); }, success: function(json) { //Process JSON $.each(json.results, function(i, item) { $("<li></li>") .html(mHTML) .attr('id', "div_li"+i) .attr('class', "divliclass") .prependTo("#" + "div_ul"); $(slotname + "div_li" + i).hide(); $(slotname + "div_li" + i).show("slow") } } }); } }); }, ... Doing this maybe adding the <li> items one by one theoretically but when I load the page, everything shows up instantaneously. Instead, is there an efficient way to make them appear one by one more slowly? I'll explain with a small example: If I have 3 items, this code is making all the 3 items appear instantaneously (at least to my eyes). I want something like 1 fades in, then 2 fades in, then 3 (something like a newsticker perhaps). Anyone has a suggestion?

  • Width of li with two floats different in IE, correct in FF

    - by Nathan Loding
    I've worked out most of the kinks with my "lava-lamp" effect that I'm trying to create. Basically I want two curly braces (both are images) to wrap a list-item, then follow over to the next list-item. I always build in FF, then make exceptions for IE. I can't figure out what exception I need to make! I'm using an absolutely positioned li that contains two div's. The first div is floated left, the second is floated right. The width of the li is set to the width of the li it supposed to be wrapping. Thus creating the effect of the braces on the left and right sides of the text. It works beautifully in Firefox, but IE has two issues: The bottoms of the images are cut off. Sometimes they reappear when the animation ends, sometimes they don't. I assume this has to do with height, but no matter what I set the height to, it fails! The width is completely wrong. Here's a live example of it: http://jsbin.com/odome/2 The left position in IE is always 5-7px more than in FF, but that's a small difference. I'm more concerned with the width and the bottoms of the images being trimmed. Thanks, as always, for the help!

  • jquery child selector problems

    - by codedude
    I have a basic website nav layout that looks like this: <li class="folder parent_folder"> <a href="#">Some Folder</a> <ul class="submenu"> <li class="file"><a href="#">An awesome file</a></li> <li class="file"><a href="#">An awesome file</a></li> <li class="file"><a href="#">An awesome file</a></li> <li class="file"><a href="#">An awesome file</a></li> <li class="file"><a href="#">An awesome file</a></li> <li class="file"><a href="#">An awesome file</a></li> </ul> I have several of these throughout the site's page. Using jquery, I'm trying to make it so that when you click "li.parent_folder" "ul.submenu" disappears and then reappears when you click "li.parent_folder" again. I can get it to do this but I have a problem. When I click on the "li.parent_folder" all the "ul.submenu" disapear instead of just the one that is the child of it. What would be the correct jquery code to accomplish this? (Oh, I'm using jquery ui also in this project What I have right now is this: $('li.parent_folder').click(function() { $('li.parent_folder ul.submenu').hide(); });

  • What options exist to get text/ list items to appear in columns?

    - by alex
    I have a bunch of HTML markup coming from an external source, and it is mainly h3 elements and ul elements. I want to have the content flow in 3 columns. I know there is something coming in CSS3, but what options do I have to get this content to flow nicely into the 3 columns at the time being? I'm not that concerned about IE6 (as long as it degrades gracefully). Am I stuck using jQuery to parse the markup and chop it up into 3 divs which float? Thank you Update As per request, here is some of the HTML I am working with <h3>Tourism Industry</h3> <ul> <li><a href="">Something</a></li> <li><a href="">Something</a></li> <li><a href="">Something</a></li> <li><a href="">Something</a></li> </ul> <h3>Small Business</h3> <ul> <li><a href="">Something</a></li> <li><a href="">Something</a></li> <li><a href="">Something</a></li> <li><a href="">Something</a></li> <li><a href="">Something</a></li> </ul> And a whole lot more following the same format.

  • looping through JSON array

    - by Phil Jackson
    Hi all. I have recently posted another question which straight away users pointed me in the right direction. $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: './', data: 'token=' + token + '&re=8', cache: false, timeout: 5000, success: function(html){ auth(html); var JSON_array = eval(html); alert(JSON_array[0].username); } }); this returns the data correctly but I want to perform a kind of 'foreach'. the array contains data about multiple incoming and outgoing Instant Messages. So if a user is talking to more than one person at a time i need to loop through. the array's structure is as follows. Array ( [0] => Array ( [username] => Emmalene [contents] => <ul><li class="name">ACTwebDesigns</li><li class="speech">helllllllo</li></ul> <ul><li class="name">ACTwebDesigns</li><li class="speech">sds</li></ul> <ul><li class="name">ACTwebDesigns</li><li class="speech">Sponge</li><li class="speech">dick</li></ul> <ul><li class="name">ACTwebDesigns</li><li class="speech">arghh</li></ul> ) ) any help very much appreciated.

  • Adding Another Parameter to my Custom jQuery Gallery

    - by steve
    My website currently uses a custom jQuery gallery system that I've developed... it works well, but I want to add one capability that I can't seem to figure out. I want the user to, instead of having to click each thumbnail, also be able to click the full image itself to advance in the gallery. Working gallery is here: http://www.studioimbrue.com The code is as follows: $('.thumbscontainer ul li a').click(function() { var li_index = $(this).parents('ul').children('li').index($(this).parent("li"));    $(this).parents('.thumbscontainer').parent().find('.captions ul li').fadeOut(); $(this).parents('.thumbscontainer').parent().find('.captions ul li:eq('+li_index+')').fadeIn(); }); }); and the gallery HTML markup is as follows: <div class="container"> <div class="captions" id="usbdrive"> <ul> <li style="display:block"> <img src="images/portfolio/usbdrive/1.jpg" /> <div class="caption"> <span class='projecttitle'>Super Talent USB Drive Package.</span> A fancy, lavish package designed for Super Talent's specialty USB drive. When running a macro that changes the selected text, tags are automatically closed and the text formatted. How can I prevent that from happening? For example, wrapping text in a tag: DTE.ActiveDocument.Selection.Text = String.Format("<tag>{0}</tag>", DTE.ActiveDocument.Selection.Text) Ends up with two closing tags: <tag>Text</tag></tag> Even stranger, multiple lines fails: <li>One</li> <li>Two</li> <li>Three</li> An ends up as <ul> <li>One</li> <li>Two</li> <li>Three</li></li></ul> How can I prevent that? As can be seen by the last example, the formatting is wrong and there is an extra </li>

  • What is the semantically correct way to use the `<article>` tag in HTML 5, with `<ol>, <ul>, and <li

    - by viatropos
    I currently have an ordered list that I want to markup using the new HTML 5 attributes. It looks like this: <ol class="section"> <li class="article"> <h2>Article A</h2> <p>Some text</p> </li> <li class="article"> <h2>Article B</h2> <p>Some text</p> </li> <li class="article"> <h2>Article C</h2> <p>Some text</p> </li> </ol> It seems the only way to keep the list AND use HTML 5 tags is to add a whole bunch of unnecessary divs: <section> <ol> <li> <article> <h2>Article A</h2> <p>Some text</p> </article> </li> <li> <article> <h2>Article B</h2> <p>Some text</p> </article> </li> <li> <article> <h2>Article C</h2> <p>Some text</p> </article> </li> </ol> </section> Is there a better way to do this? What are your thoughts?

  • Jquery return element html instead of content

    I have something like this <ul> <li class="aclass" id="a">content</li> <li class="aclass" id="b">content</li> <li class="aclass" id="c">content</li> <li class="aclass" id="d">content</li> <li class="aclass" id="e">content</li> <li class="aclass" id="f">content</li> </ul> I have code like $(".aclass").live("mousedown",function() { alert($this.html()); }); This will alert the content, what I would like to do is alert the entire element like <li class="aclass" id="f">content</li> I've tried $(this).parent() but that returns the whole UL

  • Javascript get li values and encode them

    - by bluedaniel
    At the moment I have two (maybe more) unordered lists which are sortable with jquery and ui. The things that work are that the lists are connected, items are draggable, items can be removed and a form that adds to the list. What I need however is a function that gets all the content for li items and json encode them ready to be sent off to some db function, or something. Im new to jquery however and cant find documentation for li items. Hope Ive explained this well. Daniel

  • pagerAnchorBuilder - trying to add classes

    - by Bert Murphy
    I'm using Cycle2 to build a carousel gallery and I've run into a little problem regarding styling the pager buttons. What I've gathered is that Cycle2 creates its own pager span tags for each slide which is a bummer becaus I've already styled my the sub-nav markup. This should be a minor issue as long as I can assign individual classes to the spans and change my css accordingly. However, I can't get this to work. TLDR: I was hoping that I could use pagerAnchorBuilder to create individual classes for each span. I can't. Help. The original markup (pre Cycle2) looks like the following: <div id ="sub-nav" class="sub-nav"> <ul> <li><a id="available" class="available" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="reliable" class="reliable" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="use" class="use" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="reports" class="reports" href="#"></a></li> <li class="last"><a id="software" class="software" href="#"></a></li> </ul> </div> With Cycle2 it looks like this (note the addition of the span tags) <div id ="sub-nav" class="sub-nav"> <ul> <li><a id="available" class="available" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="reliable" class="reliable" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="use" class="use" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="reports" class="reports" href="#"></a></li> <li class="last"><a id="software" class="software" href="#"></a></li> </ul> <span class="cycle-pager-active">•</span><span>•</span><span>•</span><span>•</span><span>•</span></nav> </div> Cycle2 $('#sliding-gallery ul').cycle({ fx: 'carousel', carouselVisible: 1, speed: 'fast', timeout: 10000, slides: '>li', next: '.next', prev: '.prev', pager: '.sub-nav', pagerAnchorBuilder: function(idx, slide) { return '.sub-nav span:eq(' + idx + ')'; } });
