  • How to create a link to Nintex Start Workflow Page in the document set home page

    - by ybbest
In this blog post, I’d like to show you how to create a link to start Nintex Workflow Page in the document set home page. 1. Firstly, you need to upload the latest version of jQuery to the style library of your team site. 2. Then, upload a text file to the style library for writing your own html and JavaScript 3. In the document set home page, insert a new content editor web part and link the text file you just upload. 4. Update the text file with the following content, you can download this file here. <script type="text/javascript" src="/Style%20Library/jquery-1.9.0.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/_layouts/sp.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { listItemId=getParameterByName("ID"); setTheWorkflowLink("YBBESTDocumentLibrary"); }); function buildWorkflowLink(webRelativeUrl,listId,itemId) { var workflowLink =webRelativeUrl+"_layouts/NintexWorkflow/StartWorkflow.aspx?list="+listId+"&ID="+itemId+"&WorkflowName=Start Approval"; return workflowLink; } function getParameterByName(name) { name = name.replace(/[\[]/, "\\\[").replace(/[\]]/, "\\\]"); var regexS = "[\\?&]" + name + "=([^&#]*)"; var regex = new RegExp(regexS); var results = regex.exec(window.location.search); if(results == null){ return ""; } else{ return decodeURIComponent(results[1].replace(/\+/g, " ")); } } function setTheWorkflowLink(listName) { var SPContext = new SP.ClientContext.get_current(); web = SPContext.get_web(); list = web.get_lists().getByTitle(listName); SPContext.load(web,"ServerRelativeUrl"); SPContext.load(list, 'Title', 'Id'); SPContext.executeQueryAsync(setTheWorkflowLink_Success, setTheWorkflowLink_Fail); } function setTheWorkflowLink_Success(sender, args) { var listId = list.get_id(); var listTitle = list.get_title(); var webRelativeUrl = web.get_serverRelativeUrl(); var startWorkflowLink=buildWorkflowLink(webRelativeUrl,listId,listItemId) $("a#submitLink").attr('href',startWorkflowLink); } function setTheWorkflowLink_Fail(sender, args) { alert("There is a problem setting up the submit exam approval link"); } </script> <a href="" target="_blank" id="submitLink"><span style="font-size:14pt">Start the approval process.</span></a> 5. Save your changes and go to the document set Item, you will see the link is on the home page now. Notes: 1. You can create a link to start the workflow using the following build dynamic string configuration: {Common:WebUrl}/_layouts/NintexWorkflow/StartWorkflow.aspx?list={Common:ListID}&ID={ItemProperty:ID}&WorkflowName=workflowname. With this link you will still need to click the start button, this is standard SharePoint behaviour and cannot be altered. • SharePoint Designer 2010 Workflow Email Link To Item

    - by Brian Jackett
In this post I’ll walk you through the process of sending an email that contains a link to the current item from a SharePoint Designer 2010 workflow.  This is a process that has been published on many other forums and blogs, but many that I have seen are more complex than seems necessary. Problem     A common request from SharePoint users is to get an email which contains a link to review/approve/edit the workflow item.  SharePoint list items contain an automatic property for Url Path, but unfortunately that Url is not properly formatted to retrieve the item if you include it directly on the message body.  I tried a few solutions suggested from other blogs or forums that took a substring of the Url Path property, concatenated the display form view Url, and mixed in some other strings.  While I was able to get this working in some scenarios I still had issues in general. Solution     My solution involved adding a hyperlink to the message body.  This ended up being far easier than I had expected and fairly intuitive once I found the correct property to use.  Follow these steps to see what I did.     First add a “Send an Email” action to your workflow.  Edit the action to pull up the email configuration dialog.  Click the “Add hyperlink” button seen below. When prompted for the address of the link click the fx button to perform a lookup.  Choose Workflow Context from the “data source” dropdown.  Choose Current Item URL from the “field from source” dropdown.  Click OK. Your Edit Hyperlink dialog should now look something like this. The end result will be a hyperlink added to your email pointing to the current workflow item.  Note: this link points to the non-modal dialog display form (display form similar to what you had in 2007). Conclusion     In this post I walked you through the steps to create a SharePoint Designer 2010 workflow with an email that contains a link to the current item.  While there are many other options for accomplishing this out on the web I found this to be a more concise process and easy to understand.  Hopefully you found this helpful as well.  Feel free to leave any comments or feedback if you’ve found other ways that were helpful to you.         -Frog Out

  • Which of these URL scenarios is best for big link menus? [seo /user friendly urls]

    - by Sam
Hi folks, a question about urls... me and a good friend of mine are exploring the possibilities of either of the three scenarios for a website where each webpage has a menusystem with about 130 links.: SCENARIO 1 the pages menu system has SHORT non-descriptive hyperlinks as well as a SHORT canonical: <a href:"design">dutch design</a> the pages canonical url points to e.g.: "design" OR SCENARIO 2 the pages menu system has SHORT non-descriptive hyperlinks wwith LONG canonical urls: <a href="design">dutch design</a> the pages canonical url points to: dutch-design-crazy-yes-but-always-honest OR SCENARIO 3 the pages menu system has LONG descriptive hyperlinks with LONG canonical urls: <a href="dutch-design-crazy-yes-but-always-honest">dutch design</a> the pages canonical url points to: dutch-design-crazy-yes-but-always-honest Currently we have scenario 2... should we progress to scenario 3? All three work fine and point via RewriteMod to the same page which is fetched underwater. Now, my question is which of these is better in terms of: userfriendlyness (page loading times, full url visible in url bar or not) seo friendlyness (proper indexing due to the urls containing descriptive relevant tags) other concerns we forgot like possible penalties for so many words in link hrefs?? Thanks very much for your suggestions: much appreciated!

  • Generate canonical / real URL based on base.href or location

    - by blueyed
Is there a method/function to get the canonical / transformed URL, respecting any base.href setting of the page? I can get the base URL via (in jQuery) using $("base").attr("href") and I could use string methods to parse the URL meant to being made relative to this, but $("base").attr("href") has no host, path etc attributes (like window.location has) manually putting this together is rather tedious E.g., given a base.href of "http://example.com/foo/" and a relative URL "/bar.js", the result should be: "http://example.com/bar.js" If base.href is not present, the URL should be made relative to window.location. This should handle non-existing base.href (using location as base in this case). Is there a standard method available for this already? (I'm looking for this, since jQuery.getScript fails when using a relative URL like "/foo.js" and BASE tag is being used (FF3.6 makes an OPTIONS request, and nginx cannot handle this). When using the full URL (base.href.host + "/foo.js", it works).)

  • Problem with using malloc in link lists (urgent ! help please)

    - by Abhinav
I've been working on this program for five months now. Its a real time application of a sensor network. I create several link lists during the life of the program and Im using malloc for creating a new node in the link. What happens is that the program suddenly stops or goes crazy and restarts. Im using AVR and the microcontroller is ATMEGA 1281. After a lot of debugging I figured out that that the malloc is causing the problem. I do not free the memory after exiting the function that creates a new link so Im guessing that this is eventually causing the heap memory to overflow or something like that. Now if I use the free() function to deallocate the memory at the end of the function using malloc, the program just gets stuck when the control reaches free(). Is this because the memory becomes too clustered after calling free() ? I also create reference tables for example if 'head' is a new link list and I create another list called current and make it equal to head. table *head; table *current = head; After the end of the function if I use free free(current); current = NULL: Then the program gets stuck here. I dont know what to do. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to increase the size of the heap memory Please help...

  • What is the proper SEO way to add and remove links to our site and sitemap?

    - by ElHaix
As content fluctuates on our site, we will obviously add the titles to the new pages to our sitemap, and link list for search engine indexing. Through time, certain links will become less relevant, and would like to know how to avoid them being crawled. The links themselves may not be removed - but we don't want to dilute the link list with less relevant links as time passes. I'm guessing the status code of the page would change - to what? Should they also removed from the sitemap?

  • In C#, How to obtain the target of a symbolic link (or Reparse Point)?

    - by Cheeso
    In .NET, I think I can determine if a file is a symbolic link by calling System.IO.File.GetAttributes(), and checking for the ReparsePoint bit. like so: var a = System.IO.File.GetAttributes(fileName); if ((a & FileAttributes.ReparsePoint) != 0) { // it's a symlink } How can I obtain the target of the symbolic link, in this case? ps: I know how to create a symbolic link. It requires P/Invoke: [Interop.DllImport("kernel32.dll", EntryPoint="CreateSymbolicLinkW", CharSet=Interop.CharSet.Unicode)] public static extern int CreateSymbolicLink(string lpSymlinkFileName, string lpTargetFileName, int dwFlags);

  • RFC Repository of programming RFC's with ability to direct-link sections or even lines?

    - by Lasse V. Karlsen
Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this, I feel like the question is slightly off-topic even though it is also about programming. I am inputting todo-tasks for my WebDAV-project into my issue tracker, as I read through the relevant RFC's, and it would be nice to be able to add a link in my issue text directly to the relevant text, instead of just a link to the RFC file with a section number in the issue text, and then I have to use the find function to find it. For instance, a link like this: http://ieft.org/rfc2518.txt#1000 <-- line 1000 http://ieft.org/rfc2518.txt#9.8.3 <-- section 9.8.3 Neither of these two works, since they just post the full text files, so my question is this: Does anyone know of hosted versions of the RFC documents that contains such links?

  • Modify “Link”/ "HyperLink"/URL field using Powershell

    - by KunaalKapoor
If you are trying to update a hyperlink/url type of column of a SharePoint list item using PowerShell and are getting the exception:Unable to index into an object of type Microsoft.SharePoint.SPListItem.At C:\mypowershell.ps1:39 char:10+       $item[ <<<< "Website"] = $itemUrl          + CategoryInfo          : InvalidOperation: (RW_Website:String) [], RuntimeException    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : CannotIndexThen look no further :)The url is basically stored like a simple string with url, description divided by comma. So all you need to do is:$myUrl = "http://www.google.com, Google"$listitem["Link"] = $myUrlThat will, assuming "Link" is a type of "Hyperlink or Picture" (Hyperlink), create a link that says Google and links to http://www.google.com.Also make sure you don't miss out on the 'http://' part as without that the value will not pass the SharePoint validation of allowed values.

  • What tools to use for efficient link building?

    - by Evgeny
As most SEO experts keep saying, it is not just the content that you have - but also a hefty amount of quality incoming links to your content that is important -- these are the two ways to get to the top of the search results. The question is where do I find the incomnig links? One way I know is Google Blog Search, it can be used to find blogs with related information to your content and some allow to leave comments. The comments usually consist of your name, e-mail and website. If you put your keyword instead of your name, then the keyword turns into a link to your website. Unfortunately most blogs put rel=nofollow on such links, but some blogs don't do that. What other ways are there to find quality pages to put keywords links back to your website? Quality link usually means: located on a page with relevant content does not have a rel=nofollow in the <a has a relevant keyword as in <a href=websitekeyword</a the page with the link has high PageRank (3+) and TrustRank

  • problem on static link to libsmbclient.a

    - by Rex
I've tried to develop a library using libsmbclient-dev to access net share folders. I wish to static link libsmbclient.a in my project , but a lot of error happens when I tried to static link it, it seems that the libsmbclient.a doesn't include some objects it needed , while everything goes well with libsmbclient.so. Because my project need to support various linux versions like centOS , Ubuntu ..., we wish not to install libsmbclient-dev everywhere. Can anybody tell me that if I can static link this libsmbclient.a in an easy way ? Or what kind of installation strategy should I take to cause less trouble to users? If anyone have use this library to develop projects before , can you tell me how you deal with this case? Thank you very much!!!

  • Adsense link units trageting better keywords?

    - by user1010609
I have one link unit above my navigation which targets exact keywords on what my site is about, on contrary my adsense for content Leadbord and Wide Skyscraper show ads that are totally opposite from my keyword, while my ctr increased for about 10 times with link unit I noticed cpc is lower also (but that was just based on one day, today is higher). Is it so bad to completly get rid of standard content ads and put link units, because this way I earn so little for that site but I think that is because smart pricing (accidental clicks on ads that my users are not interested)? I earn in whole day with about 25-35 clicks as much as keyword tool shows for only one click,my site is first for the topic? I really don't know what to do.. Has anyone had similar situation or can give some advice?

  • Problem deploying portlets on JBoss Portal 2.7.2: Not a canonical value

    - by Dee
I just downloaded the JBoss Portal Server 2.7.2 (JBoss Portal + JBoss AS 4.2.3 bundle to be precise) and tried deploying portlets just as the SimpleHelloWorld provided in the samples. The portlet gets deployed fine but when I put it on a page I get the following exception. I tried adding other Portlets as well (such as the booking MVC portelt supplied with Spring WebFlow dist) but the same problem happens. The problem happens when the new instances are created by me, example when i create a new instance of CMS Portlet, I get the same error. If I use an existing instance it works. If I deploy a portlet that creates an instance using the "portle-instances.xml" then it works fine, but creating additional instances using the Admin and deploying them on page fails due to the following error. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone please help? javax.servlet.ServletException: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Not a canonical value SimplestHelloWorldWindow • How do I implement a remove by index method for a singly linked list in Java?

    - by Lars Flyger
Hi, I'm a student in a programming class, and I need some help with this code I've written. So far I've written an entire linked list class (seen below), yet for some reason the "removeByIndex" method won't work. I can't seem to figure out why, the logic seems sound to me. Is there some problem I don't know about? public class List<T> { //private sub-class Link private class Link { private T value; private Link next; //constructors of Link: public Link (T val) { this.value = val; this.next = null; } public Link (T val, Link next) { this.value = val; this.next = next; } @SuppressWarnings("unused") public T getValue() { return value; } } private static final Exception NoSuchElementException = null; private static final Exception IndexOutOfBoundsException = null; private Link chain = null; //constructors of List: public List() { this.chain = null; } //methods of List: /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: returns true if list is empty */ public boolean isEmpty() { return this.chain == null; } /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: A new Link is added via add-aux * @param element */ public void add(T element) { this.add_aux(element, this.chain); } /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: A new Link is added to the current chain * @param element * @param chain */ private void add_aux(T element, Link chain) { if (chain == null) { //if chain is null set chain to a new Link with a value of //element this.chain = new Link(element); } else if (chain.next != null) { //if chain.next is not null, go to next item in chain and //try //to add element add_aux(element, chain.next); } else { //if chain.next is null, set chain.next equal to a new Link //with value of element. chain.next = new Link(element); } } /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: returns the link at the defined index via nthlink_aux * @param index * @return */ private Link nthLink (int index) { return nthLink_aux(index, this.chain); } /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: returns the link at the defined index in the specified *chain * @param i * @param c * @return */ private Link nthLink_aux (int i, Link c) { if (i == 0) { return c; } else return nthLink_aux(i-1, c.next); } /** * Preconditions: the specified element is present in the list * Postconditions: the specified element is removed from the list * @param element * @throws Exception */ public void removeElement(T element) throws Exception { if (chain == null) { throw NoSuchElementException; } //while chain's next is not null and the value of chain.next is not //equal to element, //set chain equal to chain.next //use this iteration to go through the linked list. else while ((chain.next != null) && !(chain.next.value.equals(element))){ Link testlink = chain.next; if (testlink.next.value.equals(element)) { //if chain.next is equal to element, bypass the //element. chain.next.next = chain.next.next.next; } else if (testlink.next == null) { throw NoSuchElementException; } } } /** * Preconditions: none * Postsconditions: the Link at the specified index is removed * @param index * @throws Exception */ public void removeByIndex(int index) throws Exception { if (index == 0) { //if index is 0, set chain equal to chain.next chain = chain.next; } else if (index > 0) { Link target = nthLink(index); while (target != null) { if (target.next != null) { target = target.next; } //if target.next is null, set target to null else { target = null; } } return; } else throw IndexOutOfBoundsException; } /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: the specified link's value is printed * @param link */ public void printLink (Link link) { if(link != null) { System.out.println(link.value.toString()); } } /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: all of the links' values in the list are printed. */ public void print() { //copy chain to a new variable Link head = this.chain; //while head is not null while (!(head == null)) { //print the current link this.printLink(head); //set head equal to the next link head = head.next; } } /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: The chain is set to null */ public void clear() { this.chain = null; } /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: Places the defined link at the defined index of the list * @param index * @param val */ public void splice(int index, T val) { //create a new link with value equal to val Link spliced = new Link(val); //set the target's next equal to a new link with a next //equal to the target's old next target.next = new Link(val, target.next); } } /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: Check to see if element is in the list, returns true * if it is and false if it isn't * @param element * @return */ public boolean Search(T element) { if (chain == null) { //return false if chain is null return false; } //while chain's next is not null and the value of chain.next is not //equal to element, //set chain equal to chain.next //use this iteration to go through the linked list. else while ((chain.next != null) && !(chain.next.value.equals(element))) { Link testlink = chain.next; if (testlink.next.value.equals(element)) { //if chain.next is equal to element, return true return true; } else if (testlink.next == null) { return false; } } return false; } /** * Preconditions: none * Postconditions: order of the links in the list is reversed. */ public void reverse() { //copy chain Link current = chain; • Under what circumstances would a junction point be more appropriate than a symbolic link?

    - by Benjamin Pollack
Symbolic links were introduced an incredibly long time ago in Windows, yet I still encounter a large number of systems that use junction points. I know that symbolic links afford functionality not in junction points (e.g., they work on external drives); my question is whether there is functionality specific to junction points that make them more appropriate than symbolic links in some circumstances.

  • What is the recommended firmware for TP-LINK TL-WR841ND?

    - by arscariosus
What would be the best firmware for this cheap router? I know it depends on what I wanted to do with it, but I would like to hear some answers especially those who have used this before or is currently using it now. The default firmware is okay, but I have the itch to tweak so I flashed it with dd-wrt. I would like to hear some pros and cons regarding different firmwares and why it works best on this device.

  • Complete Guide to Symbolic Links (symlinks) on Windows or Linux

    - by Matthew Guay
Want to easily access folders and files from different folders without maintaining duplicate copies?  Here’s how you can use Symbolic Links to link anything in Windows 7, Vista, XP, and Ubuntu. So What Are Symbolic Links Anyway? Symbolic links, otherwise known as symlinks, are basically advanced shortcuts. You can create symbolic links to individual files or folders, and then these will appear like they are stored in the folder with the symbolic link even though the symbolic link only points to their real location. There are two types of symbolic links: hard and soft. Soft symbolic links work essentially the same as a standard shortcut.  When you open a soft link, you will be redirected to the folder where the files are stored.  However, a hard link makes it appear as though the file or folder actually exists at the location of the symbolic link, and your applications won’t know any different. Thus, hard links are of the most interest in this article. Why should I use Symbolic Links? There are many things we use symbolic links for, so here’s some of the top uses we can think of: Sync any folder with Dropbox – say, sync your Pidgin Profile Across Computers Move the settings folder for any program from its original location Store your Music/Pictures/Videos on a second hard drive, but make them show up in your standard Music/Pictures/Videos folders so they’ll be detected my your media programs (Windows 7 Libraries can also be good for this) Keep important files accessible from multiple locations And more! If you want to move files to a different drive or folder and then symbolically link them, follow these steps: Close any programs that may be accessing that file or folder Move the file or folder to the new desired location Follow the correct instructions below for your operating system to create the symbolic link. Caution: Make sure to never create a symbolic link inside of a symbolic link. For instance, don’t create a symbolic link to a file that’s contained in a symbolic linked folder. This can create a loop, which can cause millions of problems you don’t want to deal with. Seriously. Create Symlinks in Any Edition of Windows in Explorer Creating symlinks is usually difficult, but thanks to the free Link Shell Extension, you can create symbolic links in all modern version of Windows pain-free.  You need to download both Visual Studio 2005 redistributable, which contains the necessary prerequisites, and Link Shell Extension itself (links below).  Download the correct version (32 bit or 64 bit) for your computer. Run and install the Visual Studio 2005 Redistributable installer first. Then install the Link Shell Extension on your computer. Your taskbar will temporally disappear during the install, but will quickly come back. Now you’re ready to start creating symbolic links.  Browse to the folder or file you want to create a symbolic link from.  Right-click the folder or file and select Pick Link Source. To create your symlink, right-click in the folder you wish to save the symbolic link, select “Drop as…”, and then choose the type of link you want.  You can choose from several different options here; we chose the Hardlink Clone.  This will create a hard link to the file or folder we selected.  The Symbolic link option creates a soft link, while the smart copy will fully copy a folder containing symbolic links without breaking them.  These options can be useful as well.   Here’s our hard-linked folder on our desktop.  Notice that the folder looks like its contents are stored in Desktop\Downloads, when they are actually stored in C:\Users\Matthew\Desktop\Downloads.  Also, when links are created with the Link Shell Extension, they have a red arrow on them so you can still differentiate them. And, this works the same way in XP as well. Symlinks via Command Prompt Or, for geeks who prefer working via command line, here’s how you can create symlinks in Command Prompt in Windows 7/Vista and XP. In Windows 7/Vista In Windows Vista and 7, we’ll use the mklink command to create symbolic links.  To use it, we have to open an administrator Command Prompt.  Enter “command” in your start menu search, right-click on Command Prompt, and select “Run as administrator”. To create a symbolic link, we need to enter the following in command prompt: mklink /prefix link_path file/folder_path First, choose the correct prefix.  Mklink can create several types of links, including the following: /D – creates a soft symbolic link, which is similar to a standard folder or file shortcut in Windows.  This is the default option, and mklink will use it if you do not enter a prefix. /H – creates a hard link to a file /J – creates a hard link to a directory or folder So, once you’ve chosen the correct prefix, you need to enter the path you want for the symbolic link, and the path to the original file or folder.  For example, if I wanted a folder in my Dropbox folder to appear like it was also stored in my desktop, I would enter the following: mklink /J C:\Users\Matthew\Desktop\Dropbox C:\Users\Matthew\Documents\Dropbox Note that the first path was to the symbolic folder I wanted to create, while the second path was to the real folder. Here, in this command prompt screenshot, you can see that I created a symbolic link of my Music folder to my desktop.   And here’s how it looks in Explorer.  Note that all of my music is “really” stored in C:\Users\Matthew\Music, but here it looks like it is stored in C:\Users\Matthew\Desktop\Music. If your path has any spaces in it, you need to place quotes around it.  Note also that the link can have a different name than the file it links to.  For example, here I’m going to create a symbolic link to a document on my desktop: mklink /H “C:\Users\Matthew\Desktop\ebook.pdf”  “C:\Users\Matthew\Downloads\Before You Call Tech Support.pdf” Don’t forget the syntax: mklink /prefix link_path Target_file/folder_path In Windows XP Windows XP doesn’t include built-in command prompt support for symbolic links, but we can use the free Junction tool instead.  Download Junction (link below), and unzip the folder.  Now open Command Prompt (click Start, select All Programs, then Accessories, and select Command Prompt), and enter cd followed by the path of the folder where you saved Junction. Junction only creates hard symbolic links, since you can use shortcuts for soft ones.  To create a hard symlink, we need to enter the following in command prompt: junction –s link_path file/folder_path As with mklink in Windows 7 or Vista, if your file/folder path has spaces in it make sure to put quotes around your paths.  Also, as usual, your symlink can have a different name that the file/folder it points to. Here, we’re going to create a symbolic link to our My Music folder on the desktop.  We entered: junction -s “C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Music” “C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Music” And here’s the contents of our symlink.  Note that the path looks like these files are stored in a Music folder directly on the Desktop, when they are actually stored in My Documents\My Music.  Once again, this works with both folders and individual files. Please Note: Junction would work the same in Windows 7 or Vista, but since they include a built-in symbolic link tool we found it better to use it on those versions of Windows. Symlinks in Ubuntu Unix-based operating systems have supported symbolic links since their inception, so it is straightforward to create symbolic links in Linux distros such as Ubuntu.  There’s no graphical way to create them like the Link Shell Extension for Windows, so we’ll just do it in Terminal. Open terminal (open the Applications menu, select Accessories, and then click Terminal), and enter the following: ln –s file/folder_path link_path Note that this is opposite of the Windows commands; you put the source for the link first, and then the path second. For example, let’s create a symbolic link of our Pictures folder in our Desktop.  To do this, we entered: ln -s /home/maguay/Pictures /home/maguay/Desktop   Once again, here is the contents of our symlink folder.  The pictures look as if they’re stored directly in a Pictures folder on the Desktop, but they are actually stored in maguay\Pictures. Delete Symlinks Removing symbolic links is very simple – just delete the link!  Most of the command line utilities offer a way to delete a symbolic link via command prompt, but you don’t need to go to the trouble.   Conclusion Symbolic links can be very handy, and we use them constantly to help us stay organized and keep our hard drives from overflowing.  Let us know how you use symbolic links on your computers! • Can inbound links through template-based layouts result in penalties?

    - by Liam Sorsby
So obviously link building is encouraged as long as it is natural, organic and has meaningful links with content relevant to your site. Obviously with the constant release of new updates to algorithms, Google is flagging sites for unnatural links to their sites. My Question is: Can this be caused by templating systems? With WordPress for example, where you can add a link on the footer and it is repeated throughout the entire website generating thousands of links? If we don't add any links, Good Content will be re-posted and linked to, surely if your content is constantly linked to this will flag your site for "unnatural" content as it's difficult to see if someone has been paid to write an article on your content. Or does Google just simply want us to audit some of the links to show we are making an effort? As you can tell we have had a Manual action for: Unnatural links to your site—impacts links. However, this seems to impact our website as well. Edit: To clarify the question: Can you get penalised for paying for advertising on a site that uses a templated sidebar. So when they create a new blog/page ect your link is also added onto the page hence resulting in 1000's of links to one page on our site. I know that one effect maybe a 0 pagerank web page linking to your page dilutes the PR of our page. However the links are only inbound not reciprocal

  • The Ubuntu Advantage Service right for my non-profit?

    - by Robert
My small 5 computer office currently runs on Ubuntu. 2 of the desktops run Windows7 in Sun Virtualbox software, and are used for Quickbooks. I am going off to college, and I am looking for a paid tech support solution to replace my IT position. I have an approx $300/mth budget, and I am wiling to discuss higher rates. Everyone in the office is currently comfortable with regular desktop usage, but I am handling all of the software installation and updates. I was hoping to get a total support package for all of their tech related questions, but I cannot find any services which will support linux. Is the Ubuntu Advantage Service something which can take my place? They would mostly need network help, printer help, and an occasional software compatibly troubleshooting session. If this is not a solution, does anyone know of a tech support forum/hotline which would cover all of this? Thank you for reading.
