  • What color scheme do you use for programming?

    I get a lot of attention at work because I am the only one who bothered to change the default color settings in Visual Studio. I just modified them myself. I can provide the settings file if anyone cares to import it. Here's an example of how it looks. It reminds me of DOS/BASIC programming before I actually knew how to program. I also find it to be very readable. What color schemes do you use?! EDIT: To clarify, I only edited the text settings. The windows and panels of VS2005 are still the windows default.

  • Color generation based on random number

    I would like to create a color generator based on random numbers, which might differ just slightly, but I need colors to be easily recognizable from each other. I was thinking about generation then in a rgb format which would be probably easiest. I'm afraid simply multiplying given arguments wouldn't do very well. What algorithm do you suggest using? Also, second generated color should not be the same as previous one, but I don't want to store them - nor multiplying with (micro)time would do well since the scripts' parts are usually faster.

  • EM12c Release 4: New Compliance features including DB STIG Standard

    Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Enterprise Manager’s compliance framework is a powerful and robust feature that provides users the ability to continuously validate their target configurations against a specified standard. Enterprise Manager’s compliance library is filled with a wide variety of standards based on Oracle’s recommendations, best practices and security guidelines. These standards can be easily associated to a target to generate a report showing its degree of conformance to that standard. ( To get an overview of  Database compliance management in Enterprise Manager see this screenwatch. ) Starting with release 12.1.0.4 of Enterprise Manager the compliance library will contain a new standard based on the US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) for Oracle Database 11g. According to the DISA website, “The STIGs contain technical guidance to ‘lock down’ information systems/software that might otherwise be vulnerable to a malicious computer attack.” In essence, a STIG is a technical checklist an administrator can follow to secure a system or software. Many US government entities are required to follow these standards however many non-US government entities and commercial companies base their standards directly or partially on these STIGs. You can find more information about the Oracle Database and other STIGs on the DISA website. The Oracle Database 11g STIG consists of two categories of checks, installation and instance. Installation checks focus primarily on the security of the Oracle Home while the instance checks focus on the configuration of the running database instance itself. If you view the STIG compliance standard in Enterprise Manager, you will see the rules organized into folders corresponding to these categories. If you ever created customer compliance content in past versions of Enterprise Manager, you likely used Configuration Extensions to collect additional information into the EM repository so it could be used in a Repository compliance rule. This process although powerful, could be confusing to correctly model the SQL in the rule creation wizard. With agent-side rules, the user only needs to choose the Configuration Extension/Alias combination and that’s it. Enterprise Manager will do the rest for you. This tighter integration also means their lifecycle is managed together. When you associate an agent-side compliance standard to a target, the required Configuration Extensions will be deployed automatically for you. The opposite is also true, when you unassociated the compliance standard, the Configuration Extensions will also be undeployed. This could be something as simple as “Ensure the datacenter entrance is secured.” or complex as Oracle Database STIG Rule DG0186 – “The database should not be directly accessible from public or unauthorized networks”. These checks require a human to perform and attest to its successful completion. Enterprise Manager now supports these types of checks in Manual rules. When first associated to a target, each manual rule will generate a single violation. These violations must be manually cleared by a user who is in essence attesting to its successful completion. The user is able to permanently clear the violation or give a future date on which the violation will be regenerated. Setting a future date is useful when policy dictates a periodic re-validation of conformance wherein the user will have to reperform the check. These include approved exceptions and grace periods. Enterprise Manager now supports the ability to temporarily or permanently suppress a violation. Unlike when you clear a manual rule violation, suppression simply removes the violation from the compliance results UI and in turn its negative impact on the score. The violation still remains in the EM repository and can be accounted for in compliance reports. Temporarily suppressing a violation can give users a grace period in which to address an issue. If the issue is not addressed within the specified period, the violation will reappear in the results automatically. Again the user may enter a reason for the suppression which will be permanently saved with the event along with the suppressing user ID.   • Theme changes after resuming from suspend in 10.10

    I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1520 and Ubuntu 10.10. I've read a lot of questions about graphics problems after resuming from suspend, but most of them are much more serious than mine. I can boot, login and use Ubuntu fine. The problem is that my theme for my top bar and bottom bar changes to gray and blocky (not rounded). Oddly enough, the theme for the title bars of my windows stay the same dark theme. Any ideas how I can fix this? It works fine if I logout and log back in.

    I want to install PhpStorm color scheme from XML. Official PhpStorm's IDE website says To install a theme, download the corresponging xml file, copy to ~/Library/Preferences/RubyMine10/colors/ (Mac OS X) or C:\Users\%username%.RubyMine10\config\colors\ (Windows) and restart RubyMine. Then go to IDE Settings | Editor | Colors and select your theme. However, nothing is said about Ubuntu. I tried to find anything similar to "Library" folder inside of PhpStorm folder but failed. How can I install the theme?

  • Use gnome custom themes appearance in KDE?

    Is there a way to get the colors of a gnome custom theme to KDE without matching every single setting manually? (Theres tons of different color settings in the KDE color schemes, most of which I even don't know where they are applied ... I use KDE with compiz to run emerald as windows decorator. Because I really like the "Elementary"-theme. Because my eyes aren't that great I had to tweak the gtk-elementary theme for some additional contrast. I saved it as "elementary-piedro". Now I want to choose this theme in KDE-Systemsettings/appearance/gtk-applications but it doesnt't show the tweaked version? Where is it saved by the normal "gnome appearance preferences"-utility? Is there a way to use the tweaked settings for KDE-applications?

  • Problem with gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme

    I'm trying to install themes with gnome tweak, and I need to install gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme because otherwise I cannot see the shell extensions tab. However, I cannot install shell extensions. I have tried to install by adding the PPA with the following: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/gnome3 Then, sudo apt-get update Finally, when I try to install: sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme It gives an error: The following packages have unmet dependencies: gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme : Depends: gnome-shell-extensions-common but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. I am convinced that there is a problem with the package. So I went on and tried to install the extensions from the website: https://extensions.gnome.org/ But even though I use Firefox (15.0), I cannot see the "switch" that is being mentioned to install the extension. Maybe the version of Firefox is too new. Is there any workaround that you know of? (By the way, I use Ubuntu 12.04, freshly downloaded and installed.)

  • Unity is using something that looks like Emerald instead of the correct theme (like Metacity)

    I just upgraded my netbook thus: Lucid - Maverick - Natty. (I skipped Maverick other than as an upgrade step due to issues with Unity.) Now, I seem to be stuck with something that looks like Emerald but apparently isn't (see note below). Compiz is running, as is gtk-window-decorator, but my title bars aren't following Ubuntu's theme. I was using the Ambiance theme with no problems until the upgrade to Natty. Here's a screenshot: How can I get the default theme? Note: I never installed Emerald, and as far as I can tell it isn't installed. There's no running process containing the string emerald. So I'm not sure where gtk-window-decorator is getting its configuration from.

  • Theme changes after resuming from suspend

    I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1520 and Ubuntu 10.10. I've read a lot of questions about graphics problems after resuming from suspend, but most of them are much more serious than mine. I can boot, login and use Ubuntu fine. The problem is that my theme for my top bar and bottom bar changes to gray and blocky (not rounded). Oddly enough, the theme for the title bars of my windows stay the same dark theme. Any ideas how I can fix this? It works fine if I logout and log back in.

  • Why doesn't InkScape recognize the Ubuntu color palettes?

    InkScape 0.48.2 refuses to show my newly added Ubuntu color palettes in the color palettes selection menu. I have downloaded the Ubuntu color palettes for GIMP/InkScape from design.canonical.com, extracted the files and copied them to /usr/share/inkscape/palettes/ where all the other color palettes are. I've even made sure that all the files have the same rights, just in case. What am I missing?

  • I cannot log in after theme change

    After changing the gtk-theme in the gnome tweak took I was taken out of the session to the login screen and now I cannot log in. I can only log in using the guest account. So in the grub menu I selected the recovery mode and in the resulting menu I selected root-drop to root shell prompt. Once there I did a couple of things I've found in several pages and in the forums. 1.gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface gtk-theme This is what I got: (process:642):WARNING: Command line 'dbus-launch –autolunch=4438d024dd45ef7fb2d3f4ab0000000f –binary-syntax --close-stderr' exited with non-zero exit status 1: Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.\n and nothing changes 2.gconftool-2 --type=string -s /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme Radiance with this I was trying to change the gtk theme to the Radiance one. No strange message this time but it did not work either. I still cannot log in. Any ideas please?? sssuizaaa

  • Change the background color of selected text in Google Docs to increase readability [migrated]

    How can I override or change the background color of text selected in Google Docs? It is difficult for me to see the difference and I would like to increase the contrast or difference. After Google restyled Google Docs last year (or earlier this year), I've been unable to see selected text. It's possible this is a visual deficiency with my eyes. In Google Docs, under both Google Chrome (17.0.963.83 (Official Build 127885) m) and Firefox (11.0), when I select text inside a Google Doc, the selected text has a background of color #d6e0f5. Compare this to the default browser background color of #2f65c0. (I determined the color of the selected text background by taking a screenshot and using the color picker tool in Photoshop). I've tested this using a brand new Firefox profile as well as google chrome profile. Here's a section of a screenshot showing the selected text : I've tried using a userscript to override the CSS to go back to the default text selection color using the "Stylish" plugin with this css : ::selection { background:#2f65c0; color:#ffffff; } ::-moz-selection { background:#2f65c0; color:#ffffff; } ::-webkit-selection { background:#2f65c0; color:#ffffff; } This code works on other sites, but I'm unable to get it to work on Google Docs. (I tested on other sites but applying the userscript to a different domain and using bright yellow instead of the default dark blue #2f65c0.) When you use Google Docs, do you have the same color background for selected text or something different? (To test this, browse to docs.google.com , create a document, type text into the document, select the text with the mouse by dragging over it, take a screenshot, load the screenshot up in an image editor and determine the background color of the selected text.) This color differential (between light blue #d6e0f5 and white #fffff) may be easy to see for others and the problem lies with my eyes.

  • Anomalous results getting color components of some UIColors

    I'm trying to extract the rgb components of a UIColor in order to hand-build the pixels in a CGBitmapContext. The following sample code works fine for most of the UIColor constants but, confusingly, not all. To wit: CGColorRef color = [[UIColor yellowColor] CGColor]; const float* rgba = CGColorGetComponents(color); float r = rgba[0]; float g = rgba[1]; float b = rgba[2]; float a = rgba[3]; NSLog( @"r=%f g=%f b=%f a=%f", r, g, b, a); The results for [UIColor yellowColor] above are r=1.000000 g=1.000000 b=0.000000 a=1.000000, as expected. [UIColor redColor] gives r=1.000000 g=0.000000 b=0.000000 a=1.000000, again as expected. Similarly for blueColor and greenColor. However, the results for [UIColor blackColor] and [UIColor whiteColor] seem completely anomalous, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong (if indeed I am). To wit, [UIColor blackColor] gives r=0.000000 g=1.000000 b=0.000000 a=0.000000, which is a tranparent green, and [UIColor whiteColor] gives r=1.000000 g=1.000000 b=0.000000 a=0.000000, which is a transparent yellow. I'd appreciate it if somebody could either: (1) explain what I'm doing wrong (2) replicate my anomalous results and tell me it's not me, or (3) hit me over the head with a big hammer so it stops hurting so much.
