  • How can I keep the cpu temp low?

    I have an HP pavilion dv7, I'm using ubuntu 12.04 so the overheating problem with sandybridge cpu is a lot better. However my laptop is still becoming too hot to keep on my legs. The problem is that the fan wait too much before starting, so the medium temp is too hight. When I'm using windows 7 the laptop is room-temperature cold, I've absolutely no problem. On windows the fan is always spinning very low & very silently so the heat is continuously removed, without reaching an unconfortable temp. How can I force the computer to act like that also on ubuntu? The thing is that I claim that the amount (count) of visits is NOT a criteria for increasing the PR of the particular web because: a) Google just doesn't know about every single visit on a webpage (in case it's not using GA) b) Google just would not rate by something what Google actually affects Thanks for your opinions. Monday morning it took 20 minutes to get from Hall D in Moscone North to a conference room in Moscone South -- the crowds were crushing! A great start to a great week! Larry is as big a name as ever on the program schedule and on the Moscone stage. People were packed in Hall D and clustered around every big screen TV. He stayed on script as he laid out Oracle's SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS strategies. Every seat in Chris Leone's Fusion Apps Cloud Overview was filled on Monday morning. Oracle employees who wanted to get in were turned away. And the same thing happened in the repeat session on Wednesday. Our newest suite of apps is hot! Speaking of hot, the weather was made to order. Then it turned very San Francisco-like on Wednesday afternoon. Downright cold for those who trusted SF temps to hold in the 80's. Who did you follow on Twitter during the conference? So many voices, opinions, and convos! Great combo of social media and sharp minds.     I am using MRTG + RRDtool to monitor the bandwidth on each switchport of a Cisco Catalyst 2950 via snmp. Is MRTG capable of generating an hourly graph? With RRDtool I was able to set the interval to 1 minute in hopes of getting a more detailed graph, but the shortest timeframe the graph is 'Daily' graph (5 Minute Average) and the image is too small. What I am looking to get out of this: I am looking to be able to visually monitor all of the switch ports and tell when port begins to have unusually high traffic, in real time (1 minute interval of snmp poll, graphs generated, and page refreshed).

    I have apache2 running on a Mac OS X (10.6) machine, and it is currently serving PHP pages fine, using php5_module but I would like to configure fastcgi_module to handle the php pages. I have tried using the configuration found on www.fastcgi.com but I get the following error: [warn] FastCGI: (dynamic) server "/Path/to/script.php" has failed to remain running for 30 seconds given 3 attempts, its restart interval has been backed off to 600 seconds [warn] FastCGI: server "/usr/bin/php" has failed to remain running for 30 seconds given 3 attempts, its restart interval has been backed off to 600 seconds I'm thinking this is because PHP has not been compiled with FastCGI, but seeing as it came with Mac OS X i'm not sure how to recompile it. Is this the problem? And if so, how do I recompile PHP with FastCGI?

    On the main DC (windows server 2008 R2 standard) in our network I have to clear some old DNS entries every now and then in the Forward and Reverse Lookup Zones. I have set the server Aging/Scavenging settings to Scavenge stale resource records, with both the No-refresh interval and Refresh interval to 5 days. Yet every now and then I still have to logon to the sever and remove the DNS entries for computers that is not part of the domain anymore or has been renamed ect. Is there a different way to automatically remove the old entries?
