• No internet access when I'm connect to my company's VPN

  I googled my problem and I've read some questions in Ask Ubuntu, but I didn't solve my problem. I connect to a PPTP VPN server and it works well, but when I'm connected to that VPN I don't have Internet access but private network access. If I check "Use this connection only for resources on its network", I have Internet access, but this way I haven't access to my company's private network. What's the problem? Help, please.

  I just installed the latest version of Ubuntu; I think it was 13 or something. Anyway, I got it running, and now I've been trying to connect to my Wi-Fi AP. No matter where I go I don't see an option for Wi-Fi. I looked on the computer and found some commands to use in a terminal to run a scan for Wi-Fi networks, but all of them returned the error: interface doesn't support scanning What are step-by-step directions to make this work?

  I've upgraded from 10.10 to 12.04. The situation: I plug the dongle in and enter the password. If I click 'Enable Mobile Broadband' and I get a notice on the top right saying 'GSM network. You are now registered on the home network'. At this stage I have not actually connected and when I click my broadband connection i see that 'Enable Mobile Boardband' is unticked AGAIN and I cannot connect to my broadbnad connection when I click it.

  I have recently changed my operating system from windows 8 to ubuntu 14.04, when trying to connect to the network via wifi the system just keeps asking for my password over and over without connecting. The connectivity through an Ethernet cable is perfectly fine however and my wifi worked fine through windows 8, I have very little ubuntu knowledge so i apologise if the right information is not shown in this question. Just wondering if there was any known problems or if anyone has seen this before? Thanks in advance for any help, Tom

• Can't connect to Sql Server 2008 named instance

  I just installed Sql 2008 Express on a new server running Windows Server 2008. I know Sql is working properly, because I can connect to the db fine locally, on the server. I cannot connect to it from a client machine though, neither by IP address nor by machine name (iporname\instance). I know I have the correct IP address, because I am RDCing into the server to perform all this configuration and setup, and if I ping the server name, it is resolving to the correct IP address as well. On the server, I have set up an inbound firewall exception allowing all traffic on any port on any protocol to sqlservr.exe. In SSMS, in server > Properties > Connections Allow remote connections to this server is enabled. In Sql Server Configuration Manager, TCP/IP is enabled in both the Protocols for <instance> and the Client Protocols sections. I looked in the Windows logs, but don't see anything about connections being denied or dropped. As far as I can see, I have everything set right, but cannot connect from a client machine. The client CAN connect to other Sql 2008 Express servers okay, so I know the client configuration is correct. Any ideas where else I can look for info of what/where/how this connection is dropping, greatly apprecaited! The error being returned by the client is: **TITLE: Connect to Server** Cannot connect to [MY.IP.ADD.RSS]\[MYINSTNAME]. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.   First off: I'm not sure if this should be on superuser or here. I have recently built a few Asterisk boxes with OpenVOX FXO/FXS ports little or no trouble. My current project is building an Asterisk box with SIP trunks. My current employer insisted on getting Skype Business/Skype connect for that purpose. After reviewing the Skype Connect plan, I agreed, because I thought it is going to be straightforward: Purchase G729 licences and setup SIP trunk/trunks. Boy was i wrong :) Here is the setup: The setup is for calling US numbers only via skype (we got skype US minute bundles in skype connect) AsteriskNOW - Asterisk 1.4 + asterisk-gui Trunks: SIP Trunk configured with Skype Connect - shows as registered Users: 2 test extensions. Both work fine when calling each other, voicemail etc works fine too The asterisk box is behind a Mikrotik router which i configured to forward all relevant ports: 5060-5090 UDP, 10000-20000 UDP. When trying out an extension outside of my LAN, it worked. I could make calls to the other extension. Outgoing rule: _NXXXXXXXXX Strip:0 Prepend:+1 Use skype trunk Inbound rule: Trunk: Skype Pattern: s Destination: Extension1 (6210) Here is the output of asterisk CLI (-rvvvvv) with outgoing calls: http://pastebin.com/eWVpL72e you can see the circuit-busy response when using trunk1 (skype) When calling my Skype Connect number from the outside, I get nothing in the logs. • Mac computers unable to connect to samba

  I have a Ubuntu 9 server with samba 3.3 installed. This server has two network interfaces, one to a "public network" which I do not have any control over and another to a private LAN. On the private LAN, samba is the Domain Controller and nmbd is the WINS server on that network. On the "public network", I have configured a second instance of nmbd to run as a WINS client. The setup seems to work fine for Windows XP (on the domain or otherwise) as well as other Ubuntu machines. Finally, my question: Mac computers seem unable to connect to the samba server. As far as I can tell, it is as if samba is invisible to the MAC computer. Could my configuration of nmbd be causing this problem? Or is this simple a Mac oddity and is there anything I can do about it? New updates/info: We tried to connect through the Finder - Connect to Server, we entered smb://servername where servername is the netbios and DNS name. (There is also a DNS entry for the same name on the network) We also tried connecting by IP address Also, I just realized that there is at least one Mac which can connect. (Leopard 10.5.8) I will try to get the Mac OS versions of the computers which couldn't connect as soon as I can. The Mac which could not connect was running Mac OS X 10.4.11. Was there a change to samba on Mac OS between 10.4 and 10.5?

• Unable to either locate any wireless networks nor even connect to wifi

  I'm new to Linux. I currently have installed ubuntu 12.10. I had a previous problem with my wireless card (see url to see previous problem : How to enable wireless in a Fujitsu LH532?). It now shows Connect to hidden network and create new wireless network but now unfortunately it simply cannot find any wireless connections. I did have a very thorough look around about this problem such as wait a little longer since sometimes it cannot load all the wireless connections available that quickly. My wifi is a hidden network and I have used the connect to hidden network feature but it keeps asking for my wep key which has been checked 4 times (I counted) and it still seems to not work; It keeps asking for the WEP key. I did try both WEP 40/128-bit key and WPA & WPA2 since previously on my windows it worked; My family later decided to use WEP. I only have a quick fix using a usb wireless stick and I wish to have a more solid fix. • Can't connect to VPN on Ubuntu 12.04

  I'm having a lot of trouble connecting to VPN. This used to work on my machine, but i recently did an update and it's stopped working. I'm not sure what the problem is. • Using Teleriks new LINQ implementation to connect to MySQL

  Last week Telerik released a new LINQ implementation that is simple to use and produces domain models very fast. Built on top of the enterprise grade OpenAccess ORM, you can connect to any database that OpenAccess can connect to such as: SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Azure, VistaDB, etc. Today I will show you how to build a domain model using MySQL as your back end. To get started, you have to download MySQL 5.x and the MySQL Workbench and also, as my colleague Alexander Filipov at Telerik reminded me, make sure you install the MySQL .NET Connector, which is available here.  I like to use Northwind, ok it gives me the warm and fuzzies, so I ran a script to produce Northwind on my MySQL server. There are many ways you can get Northwind on your MySQL database, here is a helpful blog to get your started. I also manipulated the first record to indicate that I am in MySQL and gave a look via the MySQL Workbench. Ok, time to build our model! Start up the Domain Model wizard by right clicking on the project in Visual Studio (I have a Web project) and select Add|New Item and choose Telerik OpenAccess Domain Model from the new item list. When the wizard comes up, choose MySQL as your back end and enter in the name of your saved MySQL connection. If you dont have a saved MySQL connection set up in Visual Studio, click on New Connection and enter in the proper connection information. *Note, this is where you need to have the MySQL .NET connector installed. After you set your connection to the MySQL database server, you have to choose which tables to include in your model. Just for fun, I will choose all of them. Give your model a name, like NorthwindEntities and click finish. That is it. Now lets consume the model with ASP .net. I created a simple page that also has a GridView on it. • Protecting offline IRM rights and the error "Unable to Connect to Offline database"

  One of the most common problems I get asked about Oracle IRM is in relation to the error message "Unable to Connect to Offline database". This error message is a result of how Oracle IRM is protecting the cached rights on the local machine and if that cache has become invalid in anyway, this error is thrown. Offline rights and security First we need to understand how Oracle IRM handles offline use. The way it is implemented is one of the main reasons why Oracle IRM is the leading document security solution and demonstrates our methodology to ensure that solutions address both security and usability and puts the balance of these two in your control. Each classification has a set of predefined roles that the manager of the classification can assign to users. Each role has an offline period which determines the amount of time a user can access content without having to communicate with the IRM server. By default for the context model, which is the classification system that ships out of the box with Oracle IRM, the offline period for each role is 3 days. This is easily changed however and can be as low as under an hour to as long as years. It is also possible to switch off the ability to access content offline which can be useful when content is very sensitive and requires a tight leash. So when a user is online, transparently in the background, the Oracle IRM Desktop communicates with the server and updates the users rights and offline periods. This transparent synchronization period is determined by the server and communicated to all IRM Desktops and allows for users rights to be kept up to date without their intervention. This allows us to support some very important scenarios which are key to a successful IRM solution. A user doesn't have to make any decision when going offline, they simply unplug their laptop and they already have their offline periods synchronized to the maximum values. Any solution that requires a user to make a decision at the point of going offline isn't going to work because people forget to do this and will therefore be unable to legitimately access their content offline. If your rights change to REMOVE your access to content, this also happens in the background. This is very useful when someone has an offline duration of a week and they happen to make a connection to the internet 3 days into that offline period, the Oracle IRM Desktop detects this online state and automatically updates all rights for the user. This means the business risk is reduced when setting long offline periods, because of the daily transparent sync, you can reflect changes as soon as the user is online. Of course, if they choose not to come online at all during that week offline period, you cannot effect change, but you take that risk in giving the 7 day offline period in the first place. If you are added to a NEW classification during the day, this will automatically be synchronized without the user even having to open a piece of content secured against that classification. This is very important, consider the scenario where a senior executive downloads all their email but doesn't open any of it. Disconnects the laptop and then gets on a plane. During the flight they attempt to open a document attached to a downloaded email which has been secured against an IRM classification the user was not even aware they had access to. Because their new role in this classification was automatically synchronized their experience is a good one and the document opens. More information on how the Oracle IRM classification model works can be found in this article by Martin Abrahams. So what about problems accessing the offline rights database? So onto the core issue... when these rights are cached to your machine they are stored in an encrypted database. The encryption of this offline database is keyed to the instance of the installation of the IRM Desktop and the Windows user account. Why? Well what you do not want to happen is for someone to get their rights for content and then copy these files across hundreds of other machines, therefore getting access to sensitive content across many environments. The IRM server has a setting which controls how many times you can cache these rights on unique machines. This is because people typically access IRM content on more than one computer. Their work desktop, a laptop and often a home computer. So Oracle IRM allows for the usability of caching rights on more than one computer whilst retaining strong security over this cache. So what happens if these files are corrupted in someway? That's when you will see the error, Unable to Connect to Offline database. The most common instance of seeing this is when you are using virtual machines and copy them from one computer to the next. The virtual machine software, VMWare Workstation for example, makes changes to the unique information of that virtual machine and as such invalidates the offline database. How do you solve the problem? Resolution is however simple. You just delete all of the offline database files on the machine and they will be recreated with working encryption when the Oracle IRM Desktop next starts. However this does mean that the IRM server will think you have your rights cached to more than one computer and you will need to rerequest your rights, even though you are only going to be accessing them on one. Because it still thinks the old cache is valid. So be aware, it is good practice to increase the server limit from the default of 1 to say 3 or 4. This is done using the Enterprise Manager instance of IRM. So to delete these offline files I have a simple .bat file you can use; Download DeleteOfflineDBs.bat Note that this uses pskillto stop the irmBackground.exe from running. This is part of the IRM Desktop and holds open a lock to the offline database. Either kill this from task manager or use pskillas part of the script.

  When I tried to update my Ubuntu through the update manager I received an error about some unknown resource. so i tried doing it from the terminal with sudo apt-get update but all I got is: 0% [Connecting to 192.168.43.1 repeating itself... and when I press Enter it shows: W: Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-security/universe/i18n/Translation-en Unable to connect to 192.168.43.1:8000: E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. How can I get this to work?

• Connect to Google Talk without giving access to my full Google Account

  I would like to use Empathy as a Google Talk client. When I choose to go online, I'm asked to give [email protected] (Ubuntu) access to manage my online Photo's, Google Drive, Emails and Videos. I don't understand why Ubuntu has to have all these permissions on my Google account, does this mean Ubuntu will start syncing my Google account to Ubuntu One? Can I connect to Google Talk without granting access to my Videos, Emails and Photos to Ubuntu? What do you guys want with all my online things?

• Wifi will not connect with an Intel Wifi Link 1000

  I have an HP dv7t-6100CTO laptop. I have linux ubuntu 12.04 lts dual booted. The specs of my laptop are: - i7-2620m dual core (2.7 ghz) processor - intel wifi link 1000 bgn wireless card I am having a hard time getting my laptop to connect to the internet through wireless. Ethernet is fine, but at college I need wireless the majority of the time. Can anyone help? Some steps I have done: I have tried WICD while uninstalling the Network Manager. When that didn't work, I uninstalled WICD and reinstalled Network Manager. I an not really sure what else to do.

• Mythbuntu initial setup cannt connect to server

  I'm really new to linux, and I just installed mythbuntu to a standalone pc, it's all installed ok and I've logged on, and started the setup but I'm having issues. I select language ok, the next screen is database setup, select next but it says can't connect to server and I just loop back. I've done some googling and checked the mysql database password and that is correct, I've also checked that my username belongs to myth tv and it does. Can anyone help? I've tried reinstalling but it doesn't change. Many thanks.

  hi, I'm using magento 1.4.0 and when I try to get to magento connect and download a plugin the page will say Error: Please check for sufficient write file permissions Your Magento folder does not have sufficient write permissions, which this web based downloader requires. If you wish to proceed downloading Magento packages online, please set all Magento folders to have writable permission for the web server user (example: apache) and press the "Refresh" button to try again. does anyone know how I can fix this problem, thanks Update: the plugin I'm trying to use is MagentoPycho light box so I unpacked the folder into the app/code/local but it still doesn't show in the admin area

• Connect to new wireless network

  Wireless networking was working perfectly on my old adsl router. Then I moved to a new home that does not have adsl, and the router has been replaced with a new 3G one. I have worked through the following links: Connecting to a wireless network and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=571188 I have set the router from it's default WPA-PSK encryption to WEP encryption and also to No Encryption. But when I get to dhclient -wlan0, I keep getting No DHCPOFFERS received. Yet the 2 windows machines in my home connect fine to this wirelesss network (in all encryption settings). If I try iwlist scan I can see that the wireless network is indeed visible. Where do I start scratching to see where the problem may lie.

• Not able to connect huawei ec1561

  I have a huawei ec1561 broadband data card, ISP-MTS India. I am not able to connect internet through it. while connecting it via network manager it says "You are registered with home network" and again "Modem network disconnected" . i think it is detected as a modem but not connecting properly. Any help please? I'm hitting this rock with my head more than a month... when I tried installing the driver that came with the device it finally says "Installing NDIS driver failed". I can post further information if anybody helps
