• Serious error on first attempts to dual boot Ubuntu 14.04 with Win7

  I downloaded Ubuntu 14.04 from the website which I saved to my desktop with WinRar. My trial with winrar had expired so I have now tried it with Active@Isoburner but I'm getting no further. I eventually got it burnt onto a DVD(4.7gb) and tried to boot from DVD and normally. Neither way works. It looks like its about to boot but then a message appears saying that a serious error has occurred...the disk drive for /tmp is not ready yet or not present...press I to ignore, s to skip or m for manual... At this point I'm lost and unsure what to do. My laptop Toshiba Equium A210-17I is over 5 or 6 years old. Available space on the Hard Drive is 24gb. 2gb RAM. It originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium edition but about a year ago or more a friend wiped it clean for me as I was having no end of problems with Vista. He installed Windows 7 Ultimate(which I don't have a disc for). How can I resolve this issue and get Ubuntu to boot up? Do I have to install a previous version of Ubuntu first? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards. Beetle.

• Is there any way to distribute x264 encoding jobs across multiple computers (to increase the encodin

  Does anyone know of a current, active solution to encoding x264 videos across many computers (via the network) to increase encoding FPS? I heard in the past of the project x264farm; unfortunately, it is not actively developed anymore, and isn't compatible with newer x264 builds. I'm looking for a current solution, which is compatible with newer builds of x264. Just to note this, I'm a Windows user, so I'm only looking for Windows solutions (or at the very least, Linux). I've also seen the ELDER distributed encoder, but the quality varies depending on the settings you use - I'd prefer a solution similar to x264farm as noted above (the documentation outlines the encoding process), but one that is compatible with new(er) x264 builds, and is preferably actively developed. Final Edit: Unfortunately, the bounty for this question has expired, and I haven't found a decent solution for this. So if at any time someone finds a new, distributed encoding solution for x264 (or any h.264 coded, for that matter) - please answer this question! I'd love to discover an ideal method to make this work!

(stack B) retransmit 200 byte data (step 3) (stack A) send ACK for 200 byte data and the next expected seq number as the one for 70 bytes data Question: Should 70 bytes data be also transferred with the ACK in step 8? Note that the retransmission timer for step 6 has not expired yet.

  I am trying to connect to a remote MS SQL Server 2008 SP3 x86 Instance using it's name. At the first glance all seems to work well (e.g. it is possible to connect to the server locally and succesfully telnet it's port remotely), but there is a thing I can't understand... This line should connect us to the default instance of remote SQL Server: osql -S ServerIP -d MyDatabase /U sa -P MyPassword and it does the trick, however the next one: osql -S ServerIP\MyInstance -d MyDatabase /U sa -P MyPassword ends up with the following error: [SQL Native Client]SQL Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]. [SQL Native Client]Login timeout expired [SQL Native Client]An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. The only instance running on the server is MyInstance, which is (I guess) the default one. Could you please put some time in explaining the issue.

• Apache CPU usage stays at 100% even when there are no requests

  Hi, I've been running the Apache HTTP server benchmarking tool (ab) on my new Apache server to test performance. I noticed that with a command like the following: ab -n 100000 -c 1000 http://www.mysite.com/ The CPU is used 100% by the apache2 processes during the testing. When the test concludes, usually with the following error just before the last requests are made: apr_poll: The timeout specified has expired (70007) Total of 99960 requests completed the CPU usage remains at 100%, and it's all being consumed by apache. I am using the worker MPM with and running PHP with mod_fcgid. Any advice as to why this is or what can be done to stop it would be appreciated.

• Developing an iOS app for a single device - licensing issue

  I'm developing an iOS app for a museum as a freelancer. It's a very simple video player, to be installed on a single iPad that will be part of a permanent exhibition, basically acting as a kiosk. It turns out the iPad is the ideal device for that if you're looking for a small and affordable touchscreen. The problem is: as far as I can tell, none of the Apple Developer Program options available will allow me to distribute an app like that. The relevant options are (from the link above): iOS Developer Program ($99/year) Select this program if you would like to distribute apps on the App Store as an individual, sole proprietor, company, organization, government entity or educational institution. iOS Developer Enterprise Program ($299/year) Select this program if you would like to develop proprietary apps for internal distribution within your company, organization, government entity or educational institution. The regular program requires distribution through the App Store. The Enterprise version is for internal distribution within my own organization. Neither is the case here! It seems like I'm doomed to violate Apple's terms of service (and I can think of at least two ways of doing that: jailbreaking, or changing the iPad's date so it won't know the provisioning profile expired). Is that really so, or did I get the descriptions wrong? Has anyone here been in a similar situation?

  I need to know when an SSL certificate actually expires. Does it just look at the expiry date, or does it also take into account the expiry time? Let's say a certificate expired on 1/1/2013 at 11am. Does that certificate expire at 11:01am or is it only the following day that the certificate expires? I have been told both are true. Hope that makes sense! Our suppliers messed up and let our certificate expire, and I'm trying to figure out how much compensation we're owed. • After binding Mac to AD, first login successfully creates mobile account and logs in, after that next login locks AD account

  Mac os x 10.7 and 10.8 AD Server 2008 R2 Binding using AD Plugin or dsconfigad -add mydomain -username myuser -ou "OU=Computers,OU=Sites,OU=Mysite,DC=mycompany,DC=com" Works fine. First login happens fine. Creates mobile account, no issues noticed. After I logout, the next login attempt fails, and after only shaking one time, their AD account is locked out. opendirectory.log makes a vague mention of account being expired but honestly I don't see much in the logs that pops out as useful. Any help?

He cannot come Feb 5 and begin using his license because that has expired then. What I want is that when he comes at Feb 5 and begins using, the license update until March 5.   We have 10 licenses for Google SketchUp in my local office. We store the license file on a network drive that is accessible to all users. We've been finding that, at most, only 3 or 4 people can run it at one time before the license shows up as "expired" on another user's system. I've verified with Google that we have 10 licenses, and have downloaded updated license files from them. The only thing that I can think of is that sometimes SketchUp crashes. Could this be utilizing a license somehow without giving it up? Google has not been able to answer this question.

  I recently reinstalled my file server (moved from fedora to ubuntu server). Now I cannot mount my nfs share from windows 7, mounting from mac osx works fine. In windows I either keep getting "the semaphore timeout period has expired" or "an unexpected error has occured". Does ubuntu need some special magic to allow windows 7 to mount an nfs share?   Hy all, first off all, don't yell that i shouldn't start with it, i just want to know how that works... The thing is, how does the engine of an webgame works. A game like tribalwars, grepolis and forge of empires. How does that keeping alive work. I mean, a user is building an building, and quit the browser... The building is build even when the session of the user is expired. but the points of the user is updated when the building is finished... So how does that works. What do you guys think? do they have some kind of cronjob that is fired every second, and that walks throug the database, and search for finished buildings, and update's the stuff? or do you guys think that they do it difrent?!?   I get this message on a new 2901 Cisco router: Cisco Configuration Professional (Cisco CP) is installed on this device and it provides the default username "cisco" for one-time use. If you have already used the username "cisco" to login to the router and your IOS image supports the "one-time" user option, then this username has already expired. You will not be able to login to the router with this username after you exit this session. It is strongly suggested that you create a new username with a privilege level of 15 using the following command. username <myuser> privilege 15 secret 0 <mypassword> Replace and with the username and password you want to use. It appears every time I login and everytime I show run. I already set up my username. How do I turn it off?

• Apache Ubuntu SSL Configuration

  Where besides the vhost configuration can SSL be configured? I see an SSL configuration in sites-available but it's not an enabled vhost (and the certificate it points to is expired). Using apache2 -V shows me the configuration directory is /etc/apache2 but I can not for the life of me find the SSL configuration and it's driving me crazy. • Replace Certificate using Plesk 11

  I am not an admin, but a programmer. But how it is, if you're the only guy who knows about computers, everyone shoves those tasks to you. A certificate of a domain recently expired. The domains are managed using Plesk 11, on a Linux system, Apache2.2. I was given a new certificate from the host, and it is one single .pem file. However, Plesk asks me for a .crt file, a private key and some CA file. I have neither, only this single .pem file the host claims to be the certificate. Since I myself never did anything with SSL certificates, I would really appreciate if anyone can tell me what to do with this file and how to properly add a new one so the old one can be removed.

  We’re using federated security with Office 365 and everything was running swimmingly and then I started getting the following error when trying to synchronize security information: “An unknown error occurred with the Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant. Contact Technical Support.” Great.  Very descriptive.  In the event viewer, you get a bit more detail: GetAuthState() failed with -2147186688 state. HResult:0. Contact Technical Support.  (0x80048831) If you do some searching, you’ll find that there are a couple of MSDN articles about this error.  In KB2502710 you’re told to reinstall sign in assistant.  This one requires a reboot.  In KB2517393 you’re told to make sure that your proxy settings are working correctly.  I’m not using a proxy and everything was set up right. Rather frustrating and I couldn’t figure out what was going on.  What finally keyed me in was the error number being presented.  Rather than 80048800, which is listed in the second article, I was getting 80048831.  I did a quick search and found something that was seemingly unrelated here.  Could it really be so simple as the password having expired for my synchronization user? Turns out, it was that simple.  Once the password was reset and reentered, everything worked great again. Since this isn’t a user that humans use, I also don’t want the password to expire.  You can find the instructions for that (use Set-MsolUser –UserPrincipalName <user ID> –PasswordNeverExpires $true) here. • SFTP not working, but SSH is

  I've had a server running CentOS for a few months now. A few days ago, I stopped being able to connect to it over SFTP. I've tried from multiple computers, OSes, clients, and internet connections. I can SSH in just fine, though. For example, Nautilus gives me this: Error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. Please select another viewer and try again. I was under the impression that SFTP was just pure SSH, and if one worked, the other would, and vice-versa. Clearly that's not the case, though. What could I have done wrong?

• SQL Server 2005 Replication Subscription Expiring Warning

  This week one of my replication subscriptions expired because I wasn't getting any alerts saying that there was a login error (I've fixed those alerts and the error). What I'd like now is, in the case that this happens again, to be able to send an alert saying that a subscription is about to expire (ie, it will expire in 1 or 2 days). I have an alert set up for when a subscription expires, but this is after the fact. I've looked through sys.messages for any text that has "Expir" in it, but I haven't found an appropriate error code yet. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction? Thanks.
