• How to build a C++ Dll wrapper that catches all exceptions?

  Like the title says, we’re looking for a way to catch all exceptions from a piece of C++ code, and wrap this in a dll. This way we can shield of the application that uses this dll, from any errors occurring in this dll. However, this does not seem possible with C++ under Windows. Example: void function() { try { std::list<int>::iterator fd_it; fd_it++; } catch(...) {} } The exception that occurs is not caught by the standard C++ try/catch block, nor by any SEH translator function set by _set_se_translator(). Instead, the DLL crashes, and the program that uses the DLL is aborted. We compiled with Visual C++ 2005, with the option /SHa. Does anyone know if it’s possible in C++/Win32 to catch these kind of problems and make a rocksolid DLL wrapper?

• Install driver by using C++

  Hi, This is a question about installing driver. I have the following files : aaa.cat aaa.inf x86\ttt.sys I can install this driver by clicking "update driver" in device manager. But now I need to install this driver on Windows (XP, Vista and Win7) by using C++. How could I do this? On the other hand, I can't use install shield or other tool to do the job. That is why I am asking this question. Thanks in advance. I have found this page, which mentioned SetupInstallFile and SetupInstallFileEx functions. • Application demands elevated privs to run on win7 but not vista

  I have a simple app that I just tried the installer (Innosetup) on win7(32-bit). After I install it the program icon on the desktop gets that shield on it that notifies the user that the app demands elevated privileges. I thought it was something wrong with the installer and made on using NSIS instead, same problem. Does anyone know why it does that on this computer but not on xp-32, win7-64 bit or Vista 64-bit? If I allow the app to run (Answers yes to the system prompt) it crashes with only the error " has encountered an error. Windows is looking for a solution" and then closes.

• Configuring 2 XBee Modules on OSX for wireless connection

  I am trying find out how and with which program for OSX (10.5.8) I can configure serial ports? I am trying to establish a wireless connection between two Xbee´s (RF modules) and cannot figure out how to use ZTerm nor screen under Terminal. The setup I am using is: an Arduino+Xbeeshield+Xbee with external power supply, and an xbee on the xbee explorer connected to the Computer via USB. I am trying to gather information on this through various forums, but most of them cover the configuration issue for PC using X-CTU (which I tried with CrossOver but it doesn´t recognize ny of my ports). According to one source, using screen under Terminal should show me all my serial ports, particularly /dev/tty.KeySerial1 - but it doesn´t show, even though I´ve plugged in both my arduino+xbee shield and the xbee on the explorer.

• How to have an Arduino wait until it receives data over serial?

  So I've wired up a little robot with a sound shield and some sensors. I'm trying to write a sketch that will let check the sensors. What I'd like for it to do is print out a little menu over serial, wait until the user sends a selection, jump to the function that matches their selection, then (once the function is done) jump back and print the menu again. Here's what I've written, but I'm not a that good of a coder, so it doesn't work.   I am getting this error when I include an opensource library that I had to compile from source. Now, all the suggestions on the web indicate that the code was compiled in one version and executed in another version (new on old). However, I only have one version of JRE on my system. If I run the commands: $ javac -version javac 1.5.0_18 $ java -version java version "1.5.0_18" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_18-b02) Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.5.0_18-b02, mixed mode) and check in Eclipse for the properties of the java library, I get 1.5.0_18 Therefore, I have to conclude something else, internal to a class itself, is throwing the exception??   I've seen this question and this article on how to debug a native Java crash. The article is with respect to Windows. What are the equivalent debugging aids on Linux? • How to outperform this regex replacement?

  After considerable measurement, I have identified a hotspot in one of our windows services that I'd like to optimize. We are processing strings that may have multiple consecutive spaces in it, and we'd like to reduce to only single spaces. We use a static compiled regex for this task: private static readonly Regex regex_select_all_multiple_whitespace_chars = new Regex(@"\s+",RegexOptions.Compiled); and then use it as follows: var cleanString= regex_select_all_multiple_whitespace_chars.Replace(dirtyString.Trim(), " "); This line is being invoked several million times, and is proving to be fairly intensive. I've tried to write something better, but I'm stumped. Given the fairly modest processing requirements of the regex, surely there's something faster. Could unsafe processing with pointers speed things further?

  When using the Scala interpreter, one could start it with an option like: C:\Users\John>scala -unchecked Welcome to Scala version 2.9.2 (Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM, Java 1.6.0_32). Type in expressions to have them evaluated. Type :help for more information. scala> When using sbt, how can one start the Scala interpreter with options ? The following try will not work: C:\Users\John\Test Scala Project 1>sbt [...] [info] Loading global plugins from C:\Users\John\.sbt\plugins [info] Set current project to default-8d4ecc (in build file:/C:/Users/John/Tes t%20Scala%20Project%201/) > console -unchecked [error] Expected end of input. [error] console -unchecked [error] ^ With Google & Co I could not figure out how to do this from within the sbt shell. Does anyone know ?

• rails using jruby 1.5 - slow!!

  Hi! I'm currently using passenger with ree 1.8.7 in production for a rails 2.3.5 project using postgresql as a database. ab -n 10000 -c 100: 285.69 [#/sec] (mean) I read jruby should be the fastest solution, so I installed jruby-1.5.0.rc2 together with jdbc postgres adapter and glassfish. As the performance is really poor, I also started running my application using "jruby --server -J-Druby.jit.threshold=0 script/server -e production". Anyway, I only get ab -n 10000 -c 100: 43.88 [#/sec] (mean) Thread_safe! is activated in my rails config. Java seems to use all cores, cpu usage is around 350% (top). ruby -v: jruby 1.5.0.RC2 (ruby 1.8.7 patchlevel 249) (2010-04-28 7c245f3) (Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 1.6.0_16) [amd64-java] I wonder what I'm doing wrong and how to get better performancre with jruby than with ree? • How to detect filesystem has changed in java

  Hi all, I would like to know how to efficiently implement filesystem changes in java? Say I got a file in a folder and modify that file. I would like to be notified by java about this change as soon as possible(no frequently polling if possible.).   Hi, My application is experiencing cashes in production. The crash dump indicates a SIGSEGV has occurred in GCTaskThread It uses JNI, so there might be some source for memory corruption, although I can't be sure. How can I debug this problem - I though of doing -XX:OnError... but i am not sure what will help me debug this. • Mac OS X: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.sun.java.browser.plugin2.DOM

  I am trying to use the new LiveConnect features introduced in Java 6 Update 10. Code looks like this (copied from the applet tutorial): Class<?> c = Class.forName("com.sun.java.browser.plugin2.DOM"); Method m = c.getMethod("getDocument", java.applet.Applet.class); Document document = (Document) m.invoke(null, this); But all I am getting is a ClassNotFoundException for the entry-point class. This on the Mac, 10.6, with both Firefox and Safari. Java Plug-in 1.6.0_22 Using JRE version 1.6.0_22-b04-307-10M3261 Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM Is this not implemented on the Mac? Or do I need to configure something? All I need to do is get and set the value of form elements on the page, so I would be fine with an older (pre-6u10) API if that works better.

  I followed the Maven tutorial to the letter but I still can't get Maven installed. When I run the following in command prompt: E:\Documents and Settings\zach>mvn --version I get: 'mvn' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I navigated to the maven install folder and ran mvn --version and got: E:\java resources\apache-maven-2.2.0\bin>mvn --version ERROR: JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory. JAVA_HOME = "E:\Sun\SDK\jdk\bin" Please set the JAVA_HOME variable in your environment to match the location of your Java installation but when I run java -version I get: java version "1.6.0_14" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_14-b08) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode) So I do have Java installed. Anyone know what the problem is?

• scala REPL is slow on vista

  I installed scala-2.8.0.RC3 by extracting the tgz file into my cygwin (vista) home directory. I made sure to set $PATH to scala-2.8.0.RC3/bin. I start the REPL by typing: $ scala Welcome to Scala version 2.8.0.RC3 (Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM, Java 1.6.0_20). Type in expressions to have them evaluated. Type :help for more information. scala> Now when I tried to enter an expression scala> 1 + 'a' the cursor hangs there without any response. Granted that I have chrome open with a million tabs and VLC playing in the background, but CPU utilization was 12% and virtual memory was about 75% utilized. What's going on ? Do I have to set the CLASSPATH or perform other steps.
