  • Harvesting Dynamic HTTP Content to produce Replicating HTTP Static Content

    - by Neil Pitman
I have a slowly evolving dynamic website served from J2EE. The response time and load capacity of the server are inadequate for client needs. Moreover, ad hoc requests can unexpectedly affect other services running on the same application server/database. I know the reasons and can't address them in the short term. I understand HTTP caching hints (expiry, etags....) and for the purpose of this question, please assume that I have maxed out the opportunities to reduce load. I am thinking of doing a brute force traversal of all URLs in the system to prime a cache and then copying the cache contents to geodispersed cache servers near the clients. I'm thinking of Squid or Apache HTTPD mod_disk_cache. I want to prime one copy and (manually) replicate the cache contents. I don't need a federation or intelligence amongst the slaves. When the data changes, invalidating the cache, I will refresh my master cache and update the slave versions, probably once a night. Has anyone done this? Is it a good idea? Are there other technologies that I should investigate? I can program this, but I would prefer a configuration of open source technologies solution Thanks

  • Generate webservice proxy using oracle ant tasks

    - by adrian.muraru
Proxy generation tends to be very slow when done using jdeveloper wizard and even more this time increases when jdeveloper is started over a remote desktop connection. So here's step-by-step howto that can be used to generate webservice proxy from your *nix shell Create a dir in your scratch area : e.g. /tmp/<username>/genproxy Get build.xml file attached, save it in the dir above and change the properties defined in it to match your ws endpoint. More specifically you need to edit: proxy.wsdl - the path (either locally or URL) where WSDL file can be accessed from proxy.handler - the handler class proxy.package - the class package where the proxy will be generated Start a new shell session (out of the ADE view if you're using one) and set the environment needed for proxy generation using ant and Oracle WebServicesAssembler genProxy [1] $ setenv ORACLE_HOME /opt/jdev_local/10.1.3/ $ setenv PATH $ORACLE_HOME/ant/bin:$PATH Note that the above env setup is needed even if you already have ORACLE_HOME set and ant utiliy available in your PATH. That way you'll be sure the proxy will be generated using the same libraries your jdeveloper is using in its wizard Generate proxy $ cd /tmp/<username>/genproxy $ ant genproxy And voila, the proxy files should be available in ./src directory. Notes: [1] More information about genProxy can be found at : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28974/wsassemble.htm#CHDJJIEI [2] In my case this method is much faster then using the jdeveloper wizard (15secs compared to 25minutes) [3] There is one minor drawback though, the jdeveloper .proxy configuration file is not generated. -Adrian

  • Apache DVB http video Streaming bandwidth or priority problem

    - by igino manfre'
I'm streaming few precompressed DVB videos from cloud. The streams are generated from VLC on "impossible" ports (such as 64085, 64086 etc) reverse proxed by Apache on port 80 and 8080. All the generated streams are listed in "http://95.110.164.61/indexv.html". From an ADSL connection with enough downlink bandwidth, recalling the stream generated by VLC (such as "http://95.110.164.61:64087/mpg2_6.4") it flows fluently. Recalling the same stream proxed by Apache ("http://95.110.164.61/mpg2_6.4") the stream stops and goes. The only situation in which the Apache proxed streams flow regularly is from a site connected through 64 Mbps warranted bandwith with RTT to the server less than 10 mseconds. Please note that streams below 2 Mbps are fluently proxed. The system is a single core xeon with windows 2008 R2 on 4 GB of RAM with 1 Gbps of network bandwidth. The drain of computational and bandwidth resources is negligeable, the RAM usage always lower than 50%. On the system I run many VLC streamers. Any of them drains a variable amount of RAM (from about 25 to 70 MB). On the contrary the couple of httpd.exe processes drain no more than 7 MB. Using Wireshark (on the server) I see that VLC directy send to the client much more packets than Apache, and the stream is framgmented on many frames. I'm not a programmer, a newby of Apache. Can anyone please address me to a specific portion of the Apache's huge documentation? Thank you. igino

  • Apache httpd Problem

    - by Christopher
Hey, I am getting intermittent issues with my site. Pages often hang with huge loading times and sometimes fail to load. The httpd error logs contain the following: [Wed Feb 23 06:54:17 2011] [debug] proxy_util.c(1854): proxy: grabbed scoreboard slot 0 in child 5871 for worker proxy:reverse [Wed Feb 23 06:54:17 2011] [debug] proxy_util.c(1967): proxy: initialized single connection worker 0 in child 5871 for (*) [Wed Feb 23 06:54:24 2011] [debug] proxy_util.c(1854): proxy: grabbed scoreboard slot 0 in child 5872 for worker proxy:reverse [Wed Feb 23 06:54:24 2011] [debug] proxy_util.c(1873): proxy: worker proxy:reverse already initialized [Wed Feb 23 06:54:24 2011] [debug] proxy_util.c(1967): proxy: initialized single connection worker 0 in child 5872 for (*) [Wed Feb 23 06:59:15 2011] [debug] proxy_util.c(1854): proxy: grabbed scoreboard slot 0 in child 5954 for worker proxy:reverse [Wed Feb 23 06:59:15 2011] [debug] proxy_util.c(1873): proxy: worker proxy:reverse already initialized The server is currently running with 800mb free memory, so it is not caused by lack of RAM. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Chris. EDIT The current number of httpd procceses is 11. This does increase as the error persists and can rise up to 25+. I am running Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS).

  • Setting up squid proxy server to in turn connect using another proxy server [closed]

    - by AnkurVj
My institute uses the Squid proxy server and authentication mechanism requires username and password to be entered. This means that, I can log in on only one machine at a time and Internet access for me is restricted to that machine. I sometimes require Internet access on multiple machines simultaneously. What previosuly worked for me was the following : On one of my own machines A, I set up a Squid proxy server that allowed all local machines without any username and password. I configured rest of the machines to use this machine A as the proxy server. On machine A I logged into the institute proxy server using my browser. This way, I could access Internet from all my machines, by effectively channeling my requests through the server A. Recently, I lost that machine and configuration and now I tried to set it up again in the same manner. However, I cant seem to remember exactly how I made it work. I keep getting Connection Refused (111) on other machines. My guess is that my squid server isnt able to forward requests from other machines to the actual squid server. I could use any help for debugging this problem. I don't want to use alternatives such as ssh tunneling. This solution has worked for me in the past, I just don't remember how to set it up the same way again.

  • How often is authenticated SOCKS5 used as an HTTP proxy in organizations?

    - by brainsnorkel
I'm wondering how frequently organisations use SOCKS5 as their web proxy protocol over, say, HTTP or authenticated HTTP proxies. Should an application even bother supporting SOCKS5 as an HTTP proxy? What percentage of organisations use SOCKS as a HTTP proxy? If you work in an organisation where you use SOCKS5, particularly authenticated SOCKS5, as the means of achieving HTTP Internet connectivity I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. If you have experience with requirements for SOCKS5 proxies in your software I'd like to hear your thoughts too.

  • Correct configuration of a reverse Proxy with IIS 6.0 and IIRF for Hudson

    - by Durden81
I have an Hudson build working on IIS 6.0 with reverse proxy (IIRF). In general it works but 2 errors are displayed in Hudson in the main configuration page called "Manage Hudson" (only if I connect through the reverse proxy): Your container doesn't use UTF-8 to decode URLs. If you use non-ASCII characters as a job name etc, this will cause problems. See Containers and Tomcat i18n for more details. It appears that your reverse proxy set up is broken This is my configuration of IIRF: RewriteLog C:\logsIIRF.txt RewriteLogLevel 2 IterationLimit 10 MaxMatchCount 10 RewriteEngine ON StatusInquiry ON UrlDecoding 0FF # add a trailing slash: RedirectRule ^/hudson$ /hudson/ [I] # Does the reverse Proxy ProxyPass ^/hudson/(.*)$ http://localhost:8080/hudson/$1 [I] ProxyPassReverse /hudson http://localhost:8080/hudson Any suggestion on how to get rid of those errors?

  • SharePoint MOSS - Serve HTTP content on an HTTPS page without Mixed Content Warning?

    - by kcb263
Our "portal-like" SharePoint site is served using HTTPS/SSL. So a user goes to https://web.company.com and sees content and different Web Parts. So far, no problem. The desire now is to have new Web Parts added that either frame HTTP content (such as Weather Bug) or HTTP RSS feeds. The issue that arises is that by doing this, results in a "Mixed Content" warning in the browser. Has anybody successfully been able to implement such a scenario, or one similar to it? The options we have looked at, unsuccessfully, have been: using Apache Reverse Proxy Server mirror an external site Custom Web Parts

  • How can I enable logging for requests going through mod proxy

    - by Kariem
Is there a way to log requests going through mod proxy? I need a way to debug my configuration, because I don't seem to be getting where I should be. I need the following information: headers of incoming requests what is being sent to the proxy target Maybe a related question: is there a way to strip some headers? I tried the following: ProxyPass /proxy/other http://not.under.my.control/ <Location /proxy/other> ProxyPassReverse / RequestHeader unset Authorization </Location> I don't really know whether this is ok, because I don't see anything. Thank you, Kariem

  • proxy/vpn by dns entry

    - by rcourtna
I've been using a service by unblock-us.com, which provides a proxy to Canadians/others allowing access to services that are locked down to only US ip addresses. This is easy enough to achieve by setting up a reverse proxy (eg: squid) on a US-hosted server, and then configuring your browser or OS to use that proxy. However, there is something that unblock-us does that I'm not sure how to duplicate. Rather than configuring your OS to use them as a proxy, you can simply change the DNS Server settings on your router to point to their addresses. Any requests to services they support are automatically proxied. The advantage to this is that you don't have to set up every computer in your house, and it "just works" with clients like ps3, xbox, android, etc. Disadvantage is you really don't have control over what gets proxied, as well as there are privacy concerns I suppose. How can I achieve this same functionality on my own us-based slice?

  • NGINX : Proxy pass intercepting 5xx errors - Possible to differentiate between ones fired by backed vs ones fired by nginx itself?

    - by anonymous-one
We use proxy_intercept_errors ( http://wiki.nginx.org/HttpProxyModule#proxy_intercept_errors ) with our backends. We intercept a number of status codes, including a few 5xx ones. Our 5xx (each 500 has its own) handler has an access_log so we can see all the 5xx errors returned to the user in a nice clean logged format. The issue with this is that as it stands now, we cannot tell weather a 5xx was returned to the user by nginx or intercepted from our backend. Is there any way to differentiate between the two? Thanks.

  • Disable/enable the proxy on a tab by tab basis in Firefox

    - by Rich
Is it possible to disable/enable the proxy connection on a tab-by-tab basis in Firefox? I can access the internet with the proxy enabled, and I can access our internal servers with the proxy disabled, but neither configuration allows the other. I have a feeling that Firefox 4's per tab profiles may permit this, but was wondering whether there was a way to achieve this on Firefox 3.6.13, perhaps through the use of an extension. For the moment I'm making do with quickProxy (not QuickProxy which I've just discovered while trying to find quickProxy) which allows me to switch the proxy on and off for the whole browser, but would prefer something more fine-grained.

  • Apache Reverse proxy for intranet and other integrated application on intranet

    - by user1433448
I'm trying to configure a reverse proxy (ssl) with apache 2.2 in Debian Squeeze, but I have some problems, specially with some path absolute and with https I'll try to detail what I have made and what I'm trying to configure I have a server Debian Squeeze with apache2.2 + mod_proxy_html with: # apt-get install libapache2-mod-proxy-html libxml2-dev # a2enmod proxy # a2enmod proxy_http # a2enmod proxy_html # a2enmod headers After that I have configured a virtual host with: reverse_proxy_ssl.conf I'm trying to configure to allow access of our intranet from internet with a reverse proxy (apache that is located in DMZ). With this configuration domain.com/intranet works correctly and we can access to intranet, but we have one problem when from domain.com/intranet we need to use another internal application that is called from intranet with absolute path ( https://192.168.10.25/application/) and from internet appears that try to access with internal ip, and this link es incorrect from external site We only need to access from intranet to multiple internal application that are in external server and we like to restrict to minimal access from internet. All the application that are in the smae server of intranet are working. The second problem is with https and reverse proxy in our firewall appears some errors with packets (not valid packets), and with https seems to work. What can I do to solve this problems (absolute path and ssl problem) Thanks

  • Assets not served - Apache Reverse proxy - Diaspora

I have succeeded in installing Diaspora* on my subdomain diaspora.mattaydin.com. I have VPS running CentOS 5.7 with Plesk installed. By means of an vhost.conf and vhost_ssl.conf file I, (with the help of another gentleman) have managed to reverse proxy the app. vhost.conf: ServerName diaspora.mattaydin.com ServerAlias *.diaspora.mattaydin.com <Directory /home/diaspora/diaspora/public> Options -Includes -ExecCGI </Directory> DocumentRoot /home/diaspora/diaspora/public RedirectPermanent / https://diaspora.mattaydin.com vhost_ssl.conf ServerName diaspora.mattaydin.com DocumentRoot /home/diaspora/diaspora/public RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ balancer://upstream%{REQUEST_URI} [P,QSA,L] <Proxy balancer://upstream> BalancerMember http://127.0.0.1:3000/ </Proxy> ProxyRequests Off ProxyVia On ProxyPreserveHost On RequestHeader set X_FORWARDED_PROTO https <Proxy *> Order allow, deny Allow from all </Proxy> <Directory /home/diaspora/diaspora/public> Options -Includes -ExecCGI Allow from all AllowOverride all Options +Indexes </Directory> DocumentRoot /home/diaspora/diaspora/public Basically it's working. • TCP Proxy on windows supporting SOCK5

    - by acidzombie24
I been using privoxy just fine for the moment. However now i need to redirect non http traffic through a proxy that supports SOCK5. I looked at RINETD and spent some time googling (which led me to a SF question suggesting RINETD) but i couldnt figure out how to make it work. Specifically how to give it a listening port for my .NET apps to connect to and the SOCK5 proxy addr/port to connect to (.NET does not support using SOCK5 which is why i need a proxy). What is a simple to use proxy on windows? It must support TCP traffic (instead of only http) and supports SOCK5. -edit- portable solution preferred. I should be able to run it on my usb stick under a limited user.

  • SOCKS proxy on Debian

How do I configure a SOCKS proxy on a Debian box such that I can enter the host address in the firefox proxy configuration page, and use my box as a SOCKS proxy? I've heard of dante-server, but I don't know how to make it allow connections from and to everywhere.

  • solr reverse proxy Apache2

    - by Steven
I am trying to setup Apache2 as Reverse Proxy for solr. Apache and Solr are on the same machine. Apache is serving other stuff as regular web server, too. solsearch config file in /etc/apache2/config.d/ # Proxy specific settings ProxyRequests Off ProxyPreserveHost Off <Proxy *> AddDefaultCharset off Order deny, allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass /solrsearch http://localhost:8983/solr/collection1/browse ProxyPassReverse /solrsearch http://localhost:8983/solr/collection1/browse Now trying [http://localhost/solsearch] gives me the first page of [http://localhost:8983/solr/collection1/browse], but with broken layout (like css missing). Result: error.log of apache: File does not exist: /var/www/solr, referer: [http://192.168.1.150/solrsearch]

  • simple apache2 reverse proxy setup not working

    - by Nick
I know what proxy is (very high level), it's just I have never set up one, and it feels like I might be missing some big fat point here. My setup: client server (static IP), runs apache on port 80 proxy (has 2 network cards, one is on the clients network, the other one with a static IP on the server network), runs apache on port 80 I am trying to configure these three machines so that when client requests: http://proxy/machine1 It gets served server's pages at server root URL, i.e. http://server/ I can access client pages just fine. However, when I try accessing a page from the client machine, it simply gets redirected to server's IP address, which it clearly can't access since they are not on the same network: ... <meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0;url=http://server/machine1"></meta> <title>Redirect</title> ... My apache2 config is: LoadModule proxy_module /modules/mod_proxy.so LoadModule proxy_http_module /modules/mod_proxy_http.so ProxyRequests off <Proxy *> Order Allow,Deny Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass /machine1 http://server:80 <Location /machine1> ProxyPassReverse / </Location> What gives? Thanks!
