  • Plugins stopped working in Chromium in Debian Testing

    Short time ago plugins stopped working in chromium. Neither of kpartsplugin, mozplugger nor flashplayer-nonfree seem to work. Neither comes up in chrome://plugins page (only "Chromoting Viewer" does). Was there recently any change that would require reconfiguration? And if, of what? I have Debian Testing (Jessie) amd64, recently updated, with chromium 35.0.1916.114-2, flashplugin-nonfree 1:3.4, kpartsplugin 20120605-1 and mozplugger 1.14.5-2.

  • ATI Radeon 5850 I cant seem to get 3 monitors up at the same time. 2 Monitors and a HDTV but still.

    Ive just bought the top end ATI Radeon card with 2 normal monitor ports and a HDMI. The idea was to continue using my dual screen setup as always and to use the last plug, the HDMI on my TV. I got a new 52 inch HD TV with all the necessary bits. This should work fine. But.. in Display Properties I still get only my 2 monitors up as options. Not the Digital TV. When I unplug 1 monitor and restart the computer, I get the TV and the other monitor. But never all 3 at the same time. Why is this ? Where can I go to tell it that I need all 3 screens at the same time. Also I get a message saying my gfx card also gives sound through the HDMI cable.. But the TV tells me its recieving a sound format that it does not understand. Any ideas on that too while were at it ?

  • Windows 7 stopped connecting to samba share

    I have a problem with Windows 7 Home connecting to samba on linux server. It's worked fine for a year and without any changes in configuration or updates it suddenly stopped working. The strangest thing for me is that it stopped working for no reason that I could think of. After a few minutes after trying to connect I get: \\ip is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Other computers in that network (XP machines) connect to samba without any problem. I've tried adding LmCompatibilityLevel as described here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/75-63-windows-samba-issue , but it didn't help.

  • How to combine wildcards and spaces (quotes) in an Windows command?

    I want to remove directories of the following format: C:\Program Files\FogBugz\Plugins\cache\[email protected]_NN NN is a number, so I want to use a wildcard (this is part of a post-build step in Visual Studio). The problem is that I need to combine quotes around the path name (for the space in Program Files) with a wildcard to match the end of the path. I already found out that rd is the remove command that accepts wildcards, but where do I put the quotes? I have tried no ending quote (works for dir), ...example.com*", ...example.com"*, ...example.com_??", ...cache\"[email protected]*, ...cache"\[email protected]*, but none of them work. (How many commands to remove a file/directory are there in Windows anyway? And why do they all differ in capabilities?)

  • Outlook items suddenly disapears from inbox after synchronization

    We had some disk problems on Exchange server. We had to fix the Exchange 2007 using eseutil. Everything works fine excpet of following problem with one e-mail account: All inbox messages of mentioned e-mail account are fully accessible through the OWA. When any user creates new Outlook profile (using .OST mode) and starts synchronizing, all inbox messages are visible in the Outlook's inbox folder untill the Inbox synchronizing is completed. Once the synchronizing progress bar reaches 100% (and the Outlook starts synchronizing Sent items or another folder), most of messages disappears from the inbox view of the Outlook. The .OST file size does not reduce. New mails (delivered after Exchange server crash) remains all in the inbox. There is no special view or filter applied in the Outlook. The problem has been reproduced on two different computers (Vista+Office2007, Win7+Office2010). We assume there is some problem on the Exchange server but we don't know how to fix it. Can anybody give us some advice?

  • How to find out what is causing a slow down of the application on this server?

    This is not the typical serverfault question, but I'm out of ideas and don't know where else to go. If there are better places to ask this, just point me there in the comments. Thanks. Situation We have this web application that uses Zend Framework, so runs in PHP on an Apache web server. We use MySQL for data storage and memcached for object caching. The application has a very unique usage and load pattern. It is a mobile web application where every full hour a cronjob looks through the database for users that have some information waiting or action to do and sends this information to a (external) notification server, that pushes these notifications to them. After the users get these notifications, the go to the app and use it, mostly for a very short time. An hour later, same thing happens. Problem In the last few weeks usage of the application really started to grow. In the last few days we encountered very high load and doubling of application response times during and after the sending of these notifications (so basically every hour). The server doesn't crash or stop responding to requests, it just gets slower and slower and often takes 20 minutes to recover - until the same thing starts again at the full hour. We have extensive monitoring in place (New Relic, collectd) but I can't figure out what's wrong; I can't find the bottlekneck. That's where you come in: Can you help me figure out what's wrong and maybe how to fix it? Additional information The server is a 16 core Intel Xeon (8 cores with hyperthreading, I think) and 12GB RAM running Ubuntu 10.04 (Linux 3.2.4-20120307 x86_64). Apache is 2.2.x and PHP is Version 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.11. If any configuration information would help analyze the problem, just comment and I will add it.   • How to configure g-wan to use virtual hosts?

    Say I have a domain foo.com and a server accessible at 50.60.70.80. I have configured the DNS entries so that foo.com and www.foo.com point to 50.60.70.80. I have g-wan running on the web server. Now I want to host different web sites on foo.com and on www.foo.com. According to the documentation I have to configure a root host and optionally some virtual hosts. So I choose foo.com to be the root host. www.foo.com is a virtual host. My problems is that g-wan seems to ignore my virtual host. No matter whether I use foo.com or ww.foo.com g-wan always serves the foo.com content. This is my g-wan "config": /gwan/0.0.0.0_80/#movq.org /gwan/0.0.0.0_80/$www.movq.org What am I doing wrong here?

  • Does using a tiling window manager make a terminal multiplexer obsolete?

    Since about half a year I have been enjoying a terminal multiplexer (tmux, to whomever it may concern), and have grown to like it. I would like to try a tiling WM as opposed to a stacked one some time in the future but cannot wrap my head around this simple question: Why would one use the splits in a multiplexer within a tiling WM? Is there an upside, besides of course the single instance you'd be running?

  • Failure to connect to admin share pops up dialog

    I'm having an issue with a curious error message when accessing the administrative share on a remote machine. Specifically, the client is logged in as the domain administrator on the machine A, and runs some code that tries to access the admin share on B (a domain member). The access is done in .NET, along these lines (though I am not sure if the method of access makes a difference): string path = @"\\B\admin$"; if (Directory.Exists(path)) { try { path += @"\temp\"; if (!Directory.Exists(path)) { Directory.CreateDirectory(path); } path += "myfile_remote"; File.Copy("myfile", path); Now, on some machines this fails. That is not a big problem as we have a fallback. I'd like to know why but it is not the real issue. The problem is that running this piece of code causes a dialog box to pop up for the logged-in user on B, saying "network error trying to access \\B\admin$\temp\myfile_remote. Contact the network administrator and ask for the correct permissions". Unfortunately, it is a foreign language Windows so I'll spare you all posting a screenshot. It is skinned like a standard Windows dialog box. Why exactly is that dialog box popping up for the user and is there anything I can do about it? Edit to add: B is a Windows 7 Enterprise installation. The client is not aware of any GPO policies being installed. There is AV from Trend Micro installed.

  • Changing Windows 'hosts' file in guest OS under Parallels Desktop 6

    Hi all, I am running Win7 in a Parallels Desktop 6 on Mac. I would like to modify my Windows hosts file. When doing this through notepad it says "You don't have permission to save in this location..." I am logged on as a regular windows user - not as 'local admin'. How can I edit the file? How can I grant my regular user 'local admin' rights? How can change the Windows user to 'admin' ... this option seems to be missing in my windows install... Does anybody recognize the issue?   • FTP proxy that translates from passive to active

    Is it possible to install a proxy server that will transform passive ftp to active ftp? Details of my problem: I would like to deploy my web sites using Visual Studio's built in publish web site function. The problem is that my web hotel only supports active ftp, and unfortunately Visual Studio 2010 has a bug, so the publish function only works with passive ftp. My idear is to install a tiny local ftp proxy, that is able to transform passive ftp mode to active mode. I would then enter localhost as the publish server in Visual Studio, and the proxy would do the actual uploading of the files to my web hotel. Visual Studio bug report: Unable to publish website to FTP server that doesn't allow passive mode.

  • Home and End keys in Emacs don't work when run from Tmux

    When I run Emacs from Tmux, the Home and End keys do not work (Home key runs the Search command as if C-s was pressed). The problem started when I added this in my ~/.bashrc file: TERM="xterm" export TERM I've read somewhere that TERM variable should not be set manually but this was the only way I was able to solve problems with colors. Without this setting I got different colors in Emacs when running directly from the terminal and different when running from Tmux. This option caused some of the keys not to work in Emacs when it was run from Tmux, so I added this line to my ~/.tmux.conf: set-window-option -g xterm-keys on This solved problem with all keys except for Home and End. Any ideas how to make these keys work again?

  • Why is hg fetch a deprecated extension? [closed]

    Mercurial's fetch extenson conveniently pulls and merges from a remote repository. Recently, this feature has been deprecated by the developers. They recommend avoiding it and it is on the unloved features list. It is useful in many cases to be able to pull and initiate a merge with one command (which hg pull -u doesn't do). I assume there is a reason behind the deprecation but I haven't been able to find one in the documentation or online. What is the reason behind deprecating it? I'm not looking for opinions, but rather the factual reason behind its deprecation (which might be that the dev team's opinion is that it should not be used).

  • Why doesn't SSHFS let me look into a mounted directory?

    I use SSHFS to mount a directory on a remote server. There is a user xxx on client and server. UID and GID are identical on both boxes. I use sshfs -o kernel_cache -o auto_cache -o reconnect -o compression=no \ -o cache_timeout=600 -o ServerAliveInterval=15 \ [email protected]:/mnt/content /home/xxx/path_to/content to mount the directory on the remote server. When I log in as xxx on the client I have no problems. I can cd into /home/xxx/path_to/content. But when I log in on the client as another user zzz and then $ ls -l /home/xxx/path_to I get this d????????? ? ? ? ? ? content and on $ ls -l /home/xxx/path_to/content I get ls: cannot access content: Permission denied When I do $ ls -l /mnt on the remote server I get drwxr-xr-x 6 xxx xxx 4096 2011-07-25 12:51 content What am I doing wrong? The permissions seem to be correct to me. Am I wrong?

  • Computer only booting after POWER ON/OFF 10 times or more?

    Hi fellow geeks, recently my computer started to behave like an old car and won't start up anymore unless I flip the power switch repeatedly. What happens when I power it on: CPU fans spins briefly and very slowly, then it stops Same with GPU fan No BIOS beeps or HDD activity Screen stays black After turning it on and off for like 10 times, it'll eventually boot like normal and run smooth without any problems what-so-ever. But I'm worried it might eventually die completely. Anyone know the most common cause of this? Maybe I should just leave the computer powered on? :)

  • emails not working after domain has been forwarded to new hosting?

    What's the best course of action after the forwarding of domain has been done and apparently the email has been forgotten to be taken into account? I just forwarded the domain to a new server hosting and i forgot to take into account the emails from the old provider? A few concerns arise: the emails won't be lost, right? will pointing the MX records to the old mail server IP address fix this issue right away? Thanks!

  • How are suspected DoS attacks handled by webservers?

    I rent a server somewhere out in Canada or so that I'm using to host a website of mine. That website has close to 400,000 pages that I wanted to index today. For that, I wrote a crawler a while back (see JCrawler on Stackoverflow.com). Now, I'm greedy and didn't want it to take too long so I ran multiple threads resulting in some 60+ requests per second from my IP. A couple minutes later, my server locked me out. I can still FTP into it, but I can't HTTP it. As server administrator or user, do you have any idea how servers usually handle these situations? Is it common to place a permanent or temporary ban on the IP or what is typically done? Naturally, I'll re-run my software with fewer requests once I'm back on.

  • Reason for perpetual dynamic DNS updates?

    I'm using dynamic DNS (the "adult" version from RFC 2136, not à la DynDNS), and for a while now I've been seeing my laptops with MacOS 10.6.x churning out updates about every 10 seconds. And seemingly redundant updates at that, as the IP is more or less stable (consumer broadband). I don't remember seeing that frequency in the (distant...) past. The lowest time-to-live that MacOS pushes on the entries is 2 minutes, so I have no clue what's going on. ... Additionally, I can't find out what triggers the updates on the laptop-side. Is this a known problem, and how would I go about debugging it? One of the machines is freshly purchased and installed. The only "major" change was installation of the Miredo client for IPv6/Teredo, but even disabling it didn't make a change (except that AAAA records are no longer published).
