  • DVI vs VGA on Windows 7

    I have a 3 monitor setup (each monitor is exactly the same). Two videocards, each with one splitter (one DVI and one VGA). I have two monitors hooked up using DVI and the third is connected through the VGA connection. I am running Windows 7. If I resize a window from one DVI monitor to the other, it's not a problem. It does so very smoothly. If I resize a window on the VGA monitor it is extremely choppy. Why? It's not choppy on other machines with only VGA connections. Has anyone else noticed this?

  • How do i tell if my drivers are up to date on Acer?

    Hoping some kind souls can help me out ? I got a blue screen the other day after trying to load sandboxie. So its obviously conflicting with something. I checked if my drivers were up to date on my acer aspire one AOD270 on this intel based site; http://www.drivermanager.com/en/down...tel&Logo=intel Its showing i have 2 drivers that need updating ; Intel NM10 Express chipset and the Realtek PCIE Cardreader. I have no idea whether to do the update via the Intel Driver update site or the Acer drivers download page? I then ran Bluescreenview and on the dump file its showing ; ''caused by driver'' igdkmd32.sys ''file description'' Intel (R) WDDM Kernel mode driver ''product name''Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows 7(R) I bought the laptop here in SE Asia about a year ago. The ''HOT!! NEW download tool'' on the acer drivers site (below) doesnt seem to work and the info about removing and installing drivers is limited. Not sure what to trust on non acer/manufacturer sites. http://support.acer.com/us/en/produc...1&modelId=4040 I've located the igdkmd32.sys file inside the INTEL GRAPHICS MEDIA ACCELERATOR 3600 SERIES 8.14.8.1064. When i click on ''update driver'' in control panel it searches and says its up to date. In windows maintenance it says this intel had a problem, but no solution. For all i know my drivers could be up to date and its something else. Can anybody advise a dummy step by step the process i should follow ? I've never done this before. eg do i delete the old driver first and then download the new one.how much of a problem i could cause by downloading this type of thing wrongly? As yet i havent downloaded any drivers. I've asked on other forums but no luck as yet. Thanks for any help!

    Hello, I am having windows vista home premium OS on my laptop. I am having a windows VPN setup too. All of a sudden my vpn doesnt work when my PC resumed from stand by mode. I tried all options but still I am getting that error. CoId={5B82082D-9236-4AF9-900B-4E8072341C76}: The user workgroup\user dialed a connection named VPNName which has failed. The error code returned on failure is 0. I am also getting the following error when I verified the event logs The user workgroup\user dialed a connection named VpnName which has failed. The error code returned on failure is 800. Please help.

  • mod evasive not working properly on ubuntu 10.04

    I have an ubuntu 10.04 server where I installed mod_evasive using apt-get install libapache2-mod-evasive I already tried several configurations, the result stays the same. The blocking does work, but randomly. I tried with low limis and long blocking periods as well as short limits. The behaviour I expect is that I can request websites until either page or site limit is reached per given interval. After that I expect to be blocked until I did not make another request for as long as the block period. However the behaviour is that I can request sites and after a while I get random 403 blocks, which increase and decrase in percentage, however they are very scattered.     I like to use the mouse as little as possible, but I find Nautilus useful enough to use it when browsing for files. If I want to rename a file while in Nautilus I can hit the F2 key; is there a way I can chmod, too? I really hate going to properties and then permissions and then hitting the combo boxes one by one.... Thanks!

    We have 12 Laptop Pc's that we have upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. The laptops are used by staff on away days. They log on to a local account on the machine - say User1 with no password. On the Windows XP Login screen there was a drop down menu allowing them to log on to the Local Machine. However in Windows7 there is no such box and it is confusing staff. Windows 7 tries to log into the domain by default, it doesn't seem to remember where the user last logged into. Is there a way to set Windows7 to log on to the local machine by default instead of the domain? I do not want the staff to have to type for example stafflaptop1\User1 when they log on.

  • LDAP search filter for Active Directory

    Hello, I'm trying to look for users inside Active Directory through a LDAP query. Basically I'm searching for the user in this way: Search DN: dc=mydomain, dc=com Filter: (sAMAccountName=USER) where USER is replaced with the provided username. Now if USER is only the username without domain (for ex. "Joe") this works fine. However I receive them in the form (domain\username, for ex. "myDomain\Joe") and obviously the search fails. I see two ways: using a regex inside the Search Filter to discard the domain using a completely different search filter I'm no LDAP expert and I don't even know if it's possible to use regular expressions inside the search filters. Does anyone know if it's possible and how? P.S. I cannot pre-process the username to strip the domain. This cannot be changed, as it's all part of a large system.

  • apache2 namevirtualhost resolving wrong site

    Running apache 2.2.6. I'm setting up a development environment. dev and production will be hosted on the same machine, same IP address. DNS entries like prod.domain.com and dev.domain.com point to the same IP. * Imprortant: it is required that dev and prod are otherwise completely separate. Each will run it's own apache instance. Each will use it's own apache configuration. Each, prod and dev, will host http and https. I have this set up and working, but not as restrictive as I'd like. For instance, the production config: NameVirtualHost *:80 NameVirtualHost *:443 <VirtualHost *:80 > ServerName prod.domain.com # ... etc </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:443 > ServerName prod.domain.com # ... etc </VirtualHost> The dev site is set up similarly, using ports 8080 and 4443. Each site works fine. But assuming both apaches are running, one can also hit "cross-site" by mistake. So, inadvertently hitting prod.domain.com:8080 successfully returns a page from the dev site. It would be much better if this failed completely. This is a bit more difficult to solve (for me) because of the need for two apache configs. If all in one, the single process would have full knowledge of everything. So, I tried to solve this with brute force, including virtual hosts for the "other" site, with something that would fail, like no access to documentroot. But apache then inexplicably finds the "wrong" virtual host. Here's the full config for production, with the dummy dev configs. NameVirtualHost *:80 NameVirtualHost *:443 # ---------------------------------------------- # DUMMY HOSTS <VirtualHost *:8080 > ServerName dev.domain.com:8080 DocumentRoot /tmp/ <Directory /tmp/ > Order deny,allow Deny from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:4443 > ServerName dev.domain.com:4443 DocumentRoot /tmp/ <Directory /tmp/ > Order deny,allow Deny from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> # ---------------------------------------------- # REAL PRODUCTION HOSTS <VirtualHost *:80 > ServerName prod.domain.com:80 DocumentRoot /something/valid/ <Directory /something/valid/> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:443 > ServerName prod.domain.com:443 DocumentRoot /something/valid/ <Directory /something/valid/> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> # .... other valid ssl setup </VirtualHost> Here's the strange thing. With this configuration, a prod.domain.com:80 hit succeeds. But a prod.domain.com:443 hit fails, because it finds the dev.domain.com:4443 instead. I've also tried removing the port from the ServerName, but it still doesn't work. Sorry for the long question. Hopefully this is enough information. Thanks in advance for any help.

    I've been using Webmin for my web server that runs my personal website and a host of other websites for a while now, and I feel like I should be able to manage my web server more directly, because I haven't even touched the Webmin for the past year or so and I feel like maybe it has too much functionality that I have to click through the next time I want to access it or create a new subdomain or database on my site. I want to try something lighter and more wholly manageable, now that I'm more comfortable with using ssh and command-line tools. I've decided that I'm going to try using Django as a framework, but obviously that's only part of the picture. What sort of knowledge will I require?

  • About Load average in htop, how to decide if it's still doing ok?

    I use 'htop' to monitor my web server. It's recently quite loaded and the Load average is showing something like this: Load average: 3.10 2.56 1.63 I searched the web about these numbers and I found an article about it: http://blog.scoutapp.com/articles/2009/07/31/understanding-load-averages In the article, it says if I have 2 CPUs, 2.0 means 100% CPU utilization. And my VPS has two CPUs, so what does 3.1 mean? How could it exceed 100% CPU utilization? And from these numbers, does it mean I should be wary about the loading now? But the performance seems totally fine, and this is a managed VPS, the hosting company has not notified me any warning about it. During day time, Load average always show these high numbers... here is another snapshot while writing. Load average: 3.03 2.77 1.97 Load average: 0.41 1.29 1.60 <---- 5 more minutes later So I am wondering how much room left for this site to grow in current configurations? What kind of proactive actions I should take in advance? I don't want to wait until the server bursts. Thanks.

  • Windows 8 Restore Problems

    I created a Windows 8 system image backup on a separate drive before I installed Linux, and during the Linux installation process I accidentally wiped out Windows. I now want to restore my Windows 8 backup that I have on the separate drive. I created a repair USB stick and I followed the directions according to this article. After selecting the image on the hard drive, I get this error: "To restore this computer, Windows needs to format the hard drive." I don't know what this means! The drive partitions are different now then they were when I backup up, so I don't know if that matters. I re-installed Windows and I can restore my files from this backup, but I don't think this covers the registry, etc. I want a full restore. Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or how to restore in a different way? Thanks!

  • Does VMware_ThinApp_4.0.3_169725.msi contain Trojan.Win32.Vapsup in it? [closed]

    Today I ran a full system scan using Online Armor++. It detected Trojans in the installer. I have had this installer on the computer for many months and I do not remember if I ever installed it on this PC or not. For some reason I unpacked the installer with 7zip though. I was probably going to attempt to make it portable. Anyway so I had the installer in a folder, and another folder next to it with all of the installers files unpacked. The VMwareVS.cab file that was extracted from the installer, also had its files extracted into another folder. This was all done many months ago. OA++ did not detect the installer itself as as Trojan VMwareVS.cab, but it did detect 4 of the files that I had unpacked as Trojans. Here are the details of what the scan detected on my PC today. Note: I uploaded these files to VirusTotal....the Ikarus and A-squared engines(the engines from Online Armor++) are not detecting anything. But some of the other engines are detecting the same Trojan that OA++ detected(Trojan.Win32.Vapsup).   • How do I objectively measure an application's load on a server

    All, I'm not even sure where to begin looking for resources to answer my question, and I realize that speculation about this kind of thing is highly subjective. I need help determining what class of server I should purchase to host a MS Silverlight application with a MSSQL server back-end on a Windows Server 2008 platform. It's an interactive program, so I can't simply generate a list of URLs to test against, and run it with 1000 simultaneous users. What tools are out there to help me determine what kind of load the application will put on a server at varying levels of concurrent users? Would you all suggest separating the SQL server form the web server, to better differentiate the generated load on the different parts of the stack?

    I have been blogging on Weblogs.asp.net for a while now. I don't remember when actually i got a berth on to Weblogs. I think it was MS Joe – Joe Stagner way back somewhere in 2005 or sometime around that time frame (i don't remember the exact dates) that he had opened up weblogs.asp.net blog space. I remember sending an email to him and i had got a space for myself. So far weblogs has been a great starting platform for me. After close to a decade in the industry (this is my 9 year in the industry) i finally realized that i too can write and i have been lately passionate about writing. So far i just have 15 posts under my belt and close to 5 community speaking sessions. I have been lately enjoying writing and community things that i decided to have my own identity on the web. Yes i have purchased my own domain and i have taken up a hosting for my own blog. My new web identity would be 2 domains under my name – www.kashyapas.com and www.lohithgn.com. I will be discontinuing writing on weblogs.asp.net and will be fulltime at www.kashyapas.com. My RSS feed at weblogs.asp.net has been redirected to point to my new site. So whoever had subscribed to my RSS will still be getting the updated content from my new site. So do drop into my new home and let me know your feedback.   • Multiple domains, Exchange 2010, mailbox access via OWA

    We currently run two separate domains where our new implementation of exchange 2010 is currently on a separate domain the users. My problem is: [email protected] cant access his mailbox at joe@domainb via OWA even though full access and sendas has been granted on domainb's mailbox to domaina's account. I keep receiving the error: Access is denied. The Active Directory resource couldn't be accessed. This may be because the Active Directory object doesn't exist or the object has become corrupted, or because you don't have the correct permissions. anyone able to help please? Take care

  • scp No such file or directory

    I've a confusing question for which superuser doesn't seem to have a good answer, and neither google. I'm trying to scp a file from a remote server to my local machine. The command is this scp user@server:/path/to/source/file.gz /path/to/destination The error I get is: scp: /path/to/source/file.gz: No such file or directory user is my username on the server. The command syntax appears fine to me. ssh works fine and I can cd to the file and it doesn't seem to be an access control issue? Thanks; Edit: Thank you John. I spotted the issue. ls returned this: -r--r--r-- 1 nobody users 168967171 Mar 10 2009 /path/to/source/file.gz So, the file was on a read-only file system and user is able to read it but not scp. I just copied the file to a different directory and chown it and worked fine. It would be good if someone can explain why this is the case though.

    I cannot figure out how to write this program, can someone please help me?! The purpose of this method is to practice manipulating St rings. Create a new program called Name.java. This program will take a name string consisting of EITHER a first name followed by a last name (nonstandar d format) or a last name followed by a comma then a first name (standard format). Ie . “Joe Smith” vs. “Smith, Joe”. This program will convert the string to standard format if it is not already in standard format. Write a method called hasComma that takes a name as an argument and that returns a boolean indicating whether it contains a comma. If i t does, you can assume that it is in last name first format. You can use the indexOf String m ethod to help you. Write a method called convertName that takes a name as an argument. It should check whether it contains a comma by calling your hasComma method. If it does, it should just return the string. If not, then it should assume th at the name is in first name first format, and it should return a new string that contains the name converted to last name comma first format. Uses charAt, length, substring, and indexOf methods. In your main program, loop, asking the user for a n ame string. If the string is not blank, call convertName and print the results. The loop terminat es when the string is blank. HINTS/SUGGESTIONS: Use the charAt, length, substring, and indexOf Str ing methods. Use scanner for your input. To get the full line, complete with spaces, use reader.nextLine()

    I've been using CopSSH (that uses OpenSSH and Cygwin, so I don't know which of the three is the problem) as my SSH server application at home on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. I have used it for about a year with no real problems, other than it sometimes takes 2 or 3 connection attempts to get through, but it's always worked within a few attempts. A few days ago, it just stopped working. The Windows service is still running, and I've rebooted, restarted the service, etc. with no change. On the client (using Putty on Windows), I get the message "Software caused connection abort". On the server, my event viewer registers the following: fatal: Write failed: Socket operation on non-socket I finally got it working, but only by executing sshd.exe directly from the command line on the server. No special flags or options, just straight execution, and then when I connect remotely, it goes through. I do have firewall and anti-virus software which appears to be configured properly, but the fact that things work when running sshd.exe also indicates that the firewall is fine. I thought the service and executable did exactly the same thing, but apparently there's some difference. Does anyone have any ideas on where I should look for the problem? If I can't find something, I suppose I can write a Windows service or scheduled task that fires off sshd.exe directly and ensures that it stays running, but that's kind of a last resort, since it's just wrapping around something that should already work.     I have these two find algorithm which look the same to me. Can anyone help me out why they are actually different? Find ( x ) : if x.parent = x then return x else return Find ( x.parent ) vs Find ( x ) : if x.parent = x then return x else x.parent <- Find(x.parent) return x.parent I interpret the first one as int i = 0; return i++; while the second one as int i = 0; int tmp = i++; return tmp which are exactly the same to me.
