• The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible 0xc000000e

  A family member of mine recently went on vacation and turned off their computer, something they normally do not do, upon returning home it would not turn on and now returns the error message below. Generally friends and family come to me for help with computers and I have no problem, however this time I am a bit stumped. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As you can see the error message is: Status: 0xc000000e Info: The best selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. Before going to this error message it briefly flashes the Windows loading screen. I have been able to confirm through the Windows RE Command Line and the dir command that the C: drive is accessible and likely is just suffering a bootup issue. I have tried: Launching the repair process discussed in the error message three times however each time it requires a restart and then returns to the same error message. Changing the boot order to be hard drive first Getting into safe mode; F8 just results in the same error message before I can get to the menu to select safe mode I have checked to make sure the BCD (bcdedit, Boot Configuration Data) is still intact as per https://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH160475 I plan to try (but would like additional comments on): sfc /scannow; requires a restart and thus will likely result in the error message again A memory scan Bootrec as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392#method1 Swapping IDE cables/ports Resetting the BIOS I noticed others with similar issues around the web are dual-booting however this machine is not setup in a dual-boot environment. Additionally at one point this error message supposedly showed up before I started working on the computer: The instruction at 0xfbe2584d referenced memory at 0x00000008. The memory could not be read. As previously stated any additional suggestions or words of advice would be greatly apprecaited.

• WebSphere MQ/MQSeries - Possible to send a message to multiple queues with single call?

  I'm queuing messages to a WebSphere MQ queue (NB: A point-to-point queue -- not a topic) using a stored procedure in my Oracle database. Is there a way to publish each message to multiple queues with a single call? What I would like is to find a solution that would incur zero additional latency on my database compared to sending the message to a single queue. Solutions that involve changing my WebSphere MQ settings are certainly welcome! What I had in mind was somehow creating a "clone" queue that got all the same messages as the original one, but I've been unable to locate anything like this in the documentation. Thanks, Jeff

  There are 4 months since I stopped developing my Silverlight Multiplayer Chess game. The problem was a bug wich I couldn't reproduce. Sice I got some free time this week I managed to discover the problem and I am now able to reproduce the bug. If I put a 100 milliseconds delay between message delivery, everything is work fine, but in a real world scenario users can send messages to server even at 1 millisecond between them. Are there any settings to be done in order to make the client send only one message at a time, or Even if I receive 3 messages in 1, are they full messages all the time (I dont't want to receive 2.5 messages in one big message) ? because if they are, I can read them and treat this new situation

But if I say "static Handler handler = new Handler()" it won't compile complaining that I "cannot make a static reference to a non-static field myMapView. If I can't make such references, I can't do anything useful. This led me into several hours of googling around on this issue and learning more about weakReferences than I ever wanted to know. The often found reccomendation I find is that I should replace... private Handler handler = new Handler() with static class handler extends Handler { private final WeakReference<PSActivity> mTarget; handler(PSActivity target) { mTarget = new WeakReference<PSActivity>(target); } But this won't compile still complaining that I can't make a static reference to a non-dtatic field. So, my question a week or to ago was "how can I write a message handler for android so my service can send data to my activity. • Firefox application associations not working

  No matter what changes i make to file associations (actions) in the 'Applications' tab in firefox, they're totally ignored. For example, i set .wmv and .avi files to open with 'smplayer' but when i download a file and double-click on it (through the 'Downloads' window), it keeps opening with Totem player. I've tried to delete and recreate mimetypes.rdf but that didn't help. Any ideas on what else should i check?

I think it was an update for the error message mentioned above. Now the OS update is currently running the 'distribution upgrade' portion of the update. This is further than it had gone before. Again I will report back once this is done to let you know whether or not the update was successful. Final Update: Don't know for sure what happened, but I'm almost sure that the error mentioned above was resolved in the first update prior to the 13.10 update. All set.

• Web browser downloads only open target folders - cannot open files

  After installing xubuntu packages in order to check xfce, I reverted back to gnome2. During the first login, I noticed that thunar was now selected as the default file manager. Preferred applications menu is also missing now, so I could not set nautilus as the default. I removed all the xubuntu packages (including thunar) and then when I tried to open a folder, I was asked to select the default file manager - that's how I got nautilus back. The next problem I'm now facing has to do with the downloaded files from web browsers: Open and Open containing folder options produce exactly the same result. If I double-click on a file, it'll just open the containing folder, instead of opening the file with it's associated application (e.g. libreoffice writer for .doc,.odt, smplayer for .avi,.wmv, etc). The problem happens both in Firefox and Chrome. Through nautilus, all files open correctly. Up until now I've tried the following: Delete/recreate mimeTypes.rdf in my FF profile Create a new profile in FF Delete/recreate ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list Already checked this similar article None of them worked. Any ideas on the issue would be appreciated.

• Is ZeroMQ a good choice to make a Python app and a C# managed assembly work together?

  I have a task that involves talking to a .NET-based API (namely AutoCAD) to retrieve data, send commands, and react to events. I want to separate the API operations and the proper program logic (largely already implemented in Python) by using natural tools for both: a C# DLL for the former and a Python app for the latter. To connect these two pieces, I began exchanging JSON in ZeroMQ messages. I'm at early development stages but having recently discovered that ZeroMQ does not guarantee message delivery/order, I have reservations about whether this is a feasible way to go. Right now my app is a very basic REQ/REP pair and I plan to handle reacting to events and executing different commands by adding some sort of 'recipient-function' field to my message format. The reason that I want to use ZMQ is that I might be able to scale the software into a larger, multi-user, distributed solution sometime. I am a lay programmer so I would ask for your advice about this architecture. Should I just go ahead with it and plan to deal with message reliability/ordering when problems appear? Should I consider developing some kind of a REST wrapper around ZMQ?

• How do I automatically start Clamz with AMZ files for Amazon MP3 downloads?

  Chromium can open downloaded files with the default application (e.g. PDF in Evince). In my setup a downloaded .AMZ (for Amazon MP3) always opened with Gedit. However I would like to have all downloaded .amz files to autromatically open with Clamz, a command line tool for downloading that works like a charm. As in Nautilus my .amz files were associated to open with Gedit too I thought it was a good idea to add a clamz.desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications (according to this answer) [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=Clamz Comment=Open AMZ files for Amazon MP3 download Exec=/usr/bin/clamz %u Terminal=True Type=Application Icon= Categories=Application; StartupNotify=true MimeType=audio/x-amzxml; NoDisplay=true This lets me choose Clamz as default application in Nautilus. But when opening an .amz file in Nautilus it still does not open with Clamz as expected but is treated as an executable text file instead (note that the executable bit is not set!). Is there any other way to make Chromium or Nautilus always open an .amz file with Clamz? Did I miss to change setting in another place?

• Force Unity to open any file with any program

  When you drag a file to the Unity launcher, only the applications that are supposed to open that file will remain active, while all others become deactivated. Is it possible to configure Unity to ignore that setting and open the file, no matter what extension the file has, with any of the applications on the launcher? I'd be glad to get an unsupported file type from the application when I make a mistake instead of losing a bunch of time configuring what application can open what file (that's because it is no longer possible to add a custom application/path in the Open with... menu)

• Thunderbird: moving email from local Junk folder to IMAP folder yields "Message contains invalid header"

  Whenever I try to move an email from a local Junk folder to an IMAP folder in Thunderbird, I get the following error message: The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Message contains invalid header If Thunderbird's Junk folder is an IMAP folder on the server, then after Thunderbird has moved messages to that folder, I can successfully move messages from Junk back into to some other IMAP folder. However, if the Junk folder is not on the server, then moving a message from the local Junk folder to an IMAP folder yields the aforementioned error. The only interesting thing I've found about this error is "Message contains invalid header" from the MozillaZine Knowledge Base. That article officially is about importing folders from another email client, and does not mention the Junk filter as another possible cause. However the proposed solution is not very helpful since it requires manual editing of the message box files. Any better ideas? EDIT: make sure you read the comments before answering the question.

• Compression for custom mime type works on IIS 7.5, but not IIS 7.0?

  I've managed to set up compression for a custom mime type on IIS 7.5 with no problem. Add the mime type to IIS then add it to the httpCompression element in applicationHost.config. But when I do the same thing on IIS 7, the particular mime type is never compressed. This isn't a problem with compression in general since other mime types are compressed correctly. As far as I can tell, IIS 7 and IIS7.5 are configured in exactly the same way. Does IIS7 behave differently and do I need to do something else to get it working? I've setup failed request tracing and get a NO_MATCHING_CONTENT_TYPE error during compression but I can't figure out what else I need to do to tell IIS about my mime type

  I'm trying to commit some files in my Git repository, and I'm receiving this error. This all started when I ran git rm -rf folder and git rm -rf file and tried to commit the changes. I've since been able to commit and push without these files being deleted from my remote repository, however I'm now completely stuck. The full error is: error: a NUL byte in commit log message not allowed. fatal: failed to write commit object What can I do to fix this? My Google-fu has let me down on this one. Edit: I've just checked out these deleted files, and attempted to commit again, but it's still giving me the same error. Has my Git repo been corrupted or something?

  I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 alongside windows 7. It was working fine but now when I try to boot with ubuntu after the operating system choice screen I get this.   When trying to install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 to a SQL Server 2008 instance that is running on a virtual machine, the installer will start:   But then after about 20 seconds I receive the following error message: TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure. ----------------------------- SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created. ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ Searching for this issue I found that several people have the same problem and there is no clear solution.  Some had success with closing windows or Internet Explorer but that didn’t work for me; what did work is to make sure the SQL Server 2008 “Please wait while SQL Server 2008 Setup processes the current operation.” dialog is selected and has the focus when it first shows up.  Selected (with the current focus) it looks like this:   Without focus the dialog looks like this: Add a comment if you find out any information about how to consistently get around this issue or why it is happening in the first place.

• FTP over ssh hangs on "Connection established: Waiting for Welcome Message"

  I have looked far and wide and have not quite found the answer. I am running ubuntu 11.10, openssh, and vsftpd. I am trying to configure my FTP to tunnel over ssh. My ssh connection works just fine and I can create the tunnel to my FTP port. When I go to use Filezilla to connect, it hangs at "Waiting for Welcome Message". I think it is an iptables issue, but I can't seem to figure out what needs to be changed. When I take iptables down, it connects just fine. I don't want to open any more external ports, just my one SSH port, and I can't seem to get it right on the internal port forwarding rule. I always end up opening it to the outside. I would love some help if anyone has any ideas and I hope I have made it clear. Thank you in advance!!

I had earlier upgraded to ubuntu 12.04 from ubuntu 11.10. And encountered the same issue. Hence i uninstalled the OS and reinstalled using wubi. We each time need to seek to resolve the malfunctions. my problem is , I am getting a message as Getting information, please wait and it don't disappear. My firewall is completely deactivate and I already go to the UAC or the firewall to allow the "exe" of the Ubuntu One software in the settings. Nothing runs.Linux never run at the first time. • What library can I use to do simple, lightweight message passing?

  I will be starting a project which requires communication between distributed nodes(the project is in C++). I need a lightweight message passing library to pass very simple messages(basically just strings of text) between nodes. The library must have the following characteristics: No external setup required. I need to be able to get everything up-and-running in my code - I don't want to require the user to install any packages or edit any configuration files(other than a list of IP addresses and ports to connect to). The underlying protocol which the library uses must be TCP(or if it is UDP, the library must guarantee the eventual receipt of the message). The library must be able to send and receive arbitrarily large strings(think up to 3GB+). The library needn't support any security mechanisms, fault tolerance, or encryption - I just need it to be fast, simple, and easy to use. I've considered MPI, but concluded it would require too much setup on the user's machine for my project. What library would you recommend for such a project? I would roll my own, but due to time constraints, I don't think that will be feasible.

  Sytmptom:   You have a list or document library page (allitems.aspx) and you are trying to add a Web part.  You get an error message: Unable to add selected Web part(s).  (name of Web part): The file is not checked out.  You must first check out this document before making changes. Publishing features are not turned on and it is not a page that lives in a library accessible by the GUI. Solution:  Open the site in SharePoint Designer and check out the page. Then, check in the page after modifications are done.  It seems like this is just a bug.
