  • Compile Assembly Output generated by VC++?

    - by SDD
    I have a simple hello world C program and compile it with /FA. As a consequence, the compiler also generates the corresponding assembly listing. Now I want to use masm/link to assemble an executable from the generated .asm listing. The following command line yields 3 linker errors: \masm32\bin\ml /I"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include" /c /coff asm_test.asm \masm32\bin\link /SUBSYSTEM:CONSOLE /LIBPATH:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib" asm_test.obj indicating that the C-runtime functions were not linked to the object files produced earlier: asm_test.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol @__security_check_cookie@4 asm_test.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _printf LINK : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _wmainCRTStartup asm_test.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 3 unresolved externals Here is the generated assembly listing ; Listing generated by Microsoft (R) Optimizing Compiler Version 15.00.30729.01 TITLE c:\asm_test\asm_test\asm_test.cpp .686P .XMM include listing.inc .model flat INCLUDELIB OLDNAMES PUBLIC ??_C@_0O@OBPALAEI@hello?5world?$CB?6?$AA@ ; `string' EXTRN @__security_check_cookie@4:PROC EXTRN _printf:PROC ; COMDAT ??_C@_0O@OBPALAEI@hello?5world?$CB?6?$AA@ CONST SEGMENT ??_C@_0O@OBPALAEI@hello?5world?$CB?6?$AA@ DB 'hello world!', 0aH, 00H ; `string' CONST ENDS PUBLIC _wmain ; Function compile flags: /Ogtpy ; COMDAT _wmain _TEXT SEGMENT _argc$ = 8 ; size = 4 _argv$ = 12 ; size = 4 _wmain PROC ; COMDAT ; File c:\users\octon\desktop\asm_test\asm_test\asm_test.cpp ; Line 21 push OFFSET ??_C@_0O@OBPALAEI@hello?5world?$CB?6?$AA@ call _printf add esp, 4 ; Line 22 xor eax, eax ; Line 23 ret 0 _wmain ENDP _TEXT ENDS END I am using the latest masm32 version (6.14.8444).

  • UIPickerView crashing when switching segemented control

    - by Mattog1456
    Hello, I have four NSDictionaries that I would like to use to populate a pickerview depending on a segemented control. With the code I have, the first segmented control/pickerview works fine but when I switch to the second segment the picker view only loads part of the second dictionary, that is it loads the same number of rows as it counted in the first dictionary. When I change the segmented control to the third or fourth segment it simply crashes with a sigabrt error indicating that it cannot index item43 when only 27 exist. This I suspect stems from a UItextfield population based on the upickerview row and object. I think the problem is with the way I have the data source and delegate set up. #pragma mark - #pragma mark UIPickerViewDelegate - (NSString *)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView titleForRow:(NSInteger)row forComponent:(NSInteger)component { if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 0) { return [robskeys objectAtIndex:row]; } if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 1) { return [esabskeys objectAtIndex:row]; } if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 2) { return [lebskeys objectAtIndex:row]; } else if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 3) { return [sbskeys objectAtIndex:row]; } return @"Unknown title"; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark UIPickerViewDataSource - (NSInteger)numberOfComponentsInPickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView { return 1; } - (NSInteger)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView numberOfRowsInComponent:(NSInteger)component { if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 0) { return robskeys.count; } if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 1) { return esabskeys.count; } if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 2) { return lebskeys.count; } else if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 3) { return sbskeys.count; } return 1; } #pragma mark - Any help would be much appreciated Thank you

  • How to use VBA to colour pie chart

    - by Timon Heinomann
    I have the following code in which the code tries to create a bubble chart with pie charts as the bubbles. As in this version colour themes are used to create a different colour in each pie chart (bulbble) in the function part I have the problem that it works depending on the paths to the colour paletts. Is there an easy way to make the function in a way that it works independently of those paths either by coding a colour for each pie chart segment or by using standardize paths (probably not possible, not preferable). Sub PieMarkers() Dim chtMarker As Chart Dim chtMain As Chart Dim intPoint As Integer Dim rngRow As Range Dim lngPointIndex As Long Dim thmColor As Long Dim myTheme As String Application.ScreenUpdating = False Set chtMarker = ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("chtMarker").Chart Set chtMain = ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("chtMain").Chart Set chtMain = ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("chtMain").Chart Set rngRow = Range(ThisWorkbook.Names("PieChartValues").RefersTo) For Each rngRow In Range("PieChartValues").Rows chtMarker.SeriesCollection(1).Values = rngRow ThisWorkbook.Theme.ThemeColorScheme.Load GetColorScheme(thmColor) chtMarker.Parent.CopyPicture xlScreen, xlPicture lngPointIndex = lngPointIndex + 1 chtMain.SeriesCollection(1).Points(lngPointIndex).Paste thmColor = thmColor + 1 Next lngPointIndex = 0 Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub Function GetColorScheme(i As Long) As String Const thmColor1 As String = "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Document Themes 15\Theme Colors\Blue Green.xml" Const thmColor2 As String = "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Document Themes 15\Theme Colors\Orange Red.xml" Select Case i Mod 2 Case 0 GetColorScheme = thmColor1 Case 1 GetColorScheme = thmColor2 End Select End Function The code copies a single chart again and again on the bubbles. So I woudl like to alter the Function (now called Get colourscheme) into a fucntion that assigns a a unqiue rgb colour to each segment of each pie chart

  • what is meant by normalization in huge pointers

    - by wrapperm
    Hi, I have a lot of confusion on understanding the difference between a "far" pointer and "huge" pointer, searched for it all over in google for a solution, couldnot find one. Can any one explain me the difference between the two. Also, what is the exact normalization concept related to huge pointers. Please donot give me the following or any similar answers: "The only difference between a far pointer and a huge pointer is that a huge pointer is normalized by the compiler. A normalized pointer is one that has as much of the address as possible in the segment, meaning that the offset is never larger than 15. A huge pointer is normalized only when pointer arithmetic is performed on it. It is not normalized when an assignment is made. You can cause it to be normalized without changing the value by incrementing and then decrementing it. The offset must be less than 16 because the segment can represent any value greater than or equal to 16 (e.g. Absolute address 0x17 in a normalized form would be 0001:0001. While a far pointer could address the absolute address 0x17 with 0000:0017, this is not a valid huge (normalized) pointer because the offset is greater than 0000F.). Huge pointers can also be incremented and decremented using arithmetic operators, but since they are normalized they will not wrap like far pointers." Here the normalization concept is not very well explained, or may be I'm unable to understand it very well. Can anyone try explaining this concept from a beginners point of view. Thanks, Rahamath

  • Segmenting and masking all shades of red from an image using opencv

    - by vrinda
    I am trying to segment all shades of red form an image using hue saturation values and use InRangeS function to create a mask which should have all red areas whitened and all others blacked(a new 1 channel image). Thwn Inpaint them to kind of obscure the segmented portions. My code is as given. However I am unable to get an output image, it doesnt segment the desired color range. Any pointers on my approach and why it isnt working. ? using namespace std; int main() { IplImage *img1=cvLoadImage("/home/techrascal/projects/test1/image2.jpeg"); //IplImage *img3; IplImage *imghsv; IplImage *img4; CvSize sz=cvGetSize(img1); imghsv=cvCreateImage(sz,IPL_DEPTH_8U,3); img4=cvCreateImage(sz,IPL_DEPTH_8U,1); int width = img1->width; int height = img1->height; int bpp = img1->nChannels; cvNamedWindow("original", 1); cvNamedWindow("hsv",1); cvNamedWindow("Blurred",1); int r,g,b; // create inpaint mask: img 4 will behave as mask cvCvtColor(img1,imghsv,CV_BGR2HSV); CvScalar hsv_min = cvScalar(0, 0, 0, 0); CvScalar hsv_max = cvScalar(255, 0, 0, 0); //cvShowImage("hsv",imghsv); cvInRangeS( imghsv, hsv_min, hsv_max, img4 ); cvInpaint(img1, img4, img1, 3,CV_INPAINT_NS ); cvShowImage("Blurred",img1); cvReleaseImage(&img1); cvReleaseImage(&imghsv); cvReleaseImage(&img4); //cvReleaseImage(&img3); char d=cvWaitKey(10000); cvDestroyAllWindows(); return 0;}

  • How can I split a LINESTRING into two LINESTRINGs at a given point?

    - by sabbour
    Hello, I'm trying to write a function that will split a LINESTRING into two LINESTRINGs given the split point. What I'm trying to achieve is a function that given a LINESTRING and a distance, it will return N LINESTRINGS for the original linestring splitted at multiples of that distance. This is what I have so far (I'm using SQL Server Spatial Tools from CodePlex): DECLARE @testLine geography; DECLARE @slicePoint geography; SET @testLine = geography::STGeomFromText('LINESTRING (34.5157942 28.5039665, 34.5157079 28.504725, 34.5156881 28.5049565, 34.5156773 28.505082, 34.5155642 28.5054437, 34.5155498 28.5054899, 34.5154937 28.5058826, 34.5154643 28.5060218, 34.5153968 28.5063415, 34.5153322 28.5065338, 34.5152031 28.5069178, 34.5150603 28.5072288, 34.5148716 28.5075501, 34.5146106 28.5079974, 34.5143617 28.5083813, 34.5141373 28.5086414, 34.5139954 28.5088441, 34.5138874 28.5089983, 34.5138311 28.5091054, 34.5136783 28.5093961, 34.5134336 28.5097531, 34.51325 28.5100794, 34.5130256 28.5105078, 34.5128754 28.5107957, 34.5126258 28.5113222, 34.5123984 28.5117673)', 4326) DECLARE @pointOne geography; declare @result table (segment geography) DECLARE @sliceDistance float DECLARE @nextSliceAt float SET @sliceDistance = 100 -- slice every 100 meters SET @nextSliceAt = @sliceDistance SELECT @pointOne = @testLine.STStartPoint() WHILE(@nextSliceAt < @testLine.STLength()) BEGIN SELECT @slicePoint = dbo.LocateAlongGeog(@testLine,@nextSliceAt) DECLARE @subLineString geography; SET @subLineString = geography::STGeomFromText('LINESTRING (' + dbo.FloatToVarchar(@pointOne.Long) + ' ' + dbo.FloatToVarchar(@pointOne.Lat) + ',' + dbo.FloatToVarchar(@slicePoint.Long) + ' ' + dbo.FloatToVarchar(@slicePoint.Lat) +')', 4326) insert into @result SELECT @subLineString SET @pointOne = @slicePoint set @nextSliceAt = @nextSliceAt + @sliceDistance END SET @subLineString = geography::STGeomFromText('LINESTRING (' + dbo.FloatToVarchar(@pointOne.Long) + ' ' + dbo.FloatToVarchar(@pointOne.Lat) + ',' + dbo.FloatToVarchar(@testLine.STEndPoint().Long) + ' ' + dbo.FloatToVarchar(@testLine.STEndPoint().Lat) +')', 4326) insert into @result SELECT @subLineString select * from @result I know it is not the best looking code, but there is another problem. The above code approximates the resulting LINESTRING because it does not follow the curvature of the original LINESTRING as it only takes into consideration the start and end points when creating the new segment. Is there a way take a substring out of the original LINESTRING given the start and end points?

  • Question about Multicaste Delegates?

    - by IbrarMumtaz
    I am going through some exam questions for the 70-536 exam and an actual question one developer postedon his blog has popped up in my exam questions. I cannot remember what his answer was .... but below is the question: You need to write a multicast delegate that accepts a DateTime arguement and returns a bool value. Which code segment should you use? A: public delegate int PowerDeviceOn(bool, DateTime) B: public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn(Object, EventArgs) C: public delegate void PowerDeviceOn(DateTime) D: public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn(DateTime) The answer is A. Can someone please explain why? As I already did some research into this question a while ago and so I was sure that it was C, obviously now looking back at the question its clear that I did not read properly. As i was sure I had seen the same one before so I jumped to the most obvious one. A varitation on this question: You need to write a multicast delegate that accepts a DateTime arguement. Which code segment should you use? A: public delegate int PowerDeviceOn(bool, DateTime) B: public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn(Object, EventArgs) C: public delegate void PowerDeviceOn(DateTime) D: public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn(DateTime) Now this is another variation on this quesiton, it still has the same bogus sample answers, as they still kind work in throwing the exam taker off. Notice how by simply keeping the sample asnwers the same and by removing a small portion of the question text, the answer is C and not A. The variation has no official answer as I just conjured it up using the exam question as a baseplate. The answer is definately C. This time round its easy to see why C is correctr but the very first question I have an inkiling but as you know an inkling is not good enough in passing exams. Thanks For Reading.

  • How to debug memory allocation issues?

    - by amitabh
    Hi I am writing an iPhone app that that is trying to create a second a view when the user clicks on an element in UITableView. The code looks like ReplyToViewController *reply = [[ReplyToViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ReplyTo" bundle:nil]; reply.delegate = self; Message *message = [resultData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; int dbid = [message.bizid intValue]; NSLog(@"dbid=%d",dbid); reply.currentMessage = message; reply.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; [self presentModalViewController:reply animated:YES]; The reply object gets created properly and the view is proper. Last line in above code segment calls some framework code which eventually calls the viewDidLoad method of the ReplyToViewController. Address of the reply object in the above code and the address of the object in viewDidLoad is not same. Any idea where this new object is coming from? How do I debug? I also added init method the following method in ReplyToViewController hoping that it will get called and I can find who is creating this new object. But it does not stop in this method. Any help will be greatly appreciated. - (id) init { /* first initialize the base class */ self = [super init]; return self; } // Following gets called from the 1st code segment. - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { if (self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]) { // Custom initialization } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSLog(currentMessage.text]; // THIS returns nil and the program fails later in the code. }

  • c++ malloc segmentation fault

    - by chnet
    I have a problem about malloc(). It is weird. My code is in the following. I use random generator to generate elements for an array. The array is opened by malloc(). If the array size is smaller than 8192, it is OK. If the size is larger than 8192, it shows segment fault. void random_generator(int num, int * array) { srand((unsigned)time(0)); int random_integer; for(int index=0; index< num; index++){ random_integer = (rand()%10000)+1; *(array+index) = random_integer; cout << index << endl; } } int main() { int array_size = 10000; int *input_array; input_array = (int*) malloc((array_size)); random_generator(8192, input_array); // if the number is larger than 8192, segment fault free(input_array); }

  • How to properly cast a global memory array using the uint4 vector in CUDA to increase memory throughput?

    - by charis
    There are generally two techniques to increase the memory throughput of the global memory on a CUDA kernel; memory accesses coalescence and accessing words of at least 4 bytes. With the first technique accesses to the same memory segment by threads of the same half-warp are coalesced to fewer transactions while be accessing words of at least 4 bytes this memory segment is effectively increased from 32 bytes to 128. To access 16-byte instead of 1-byte words when there are unsigned chars stored in the global memory, the uint4 vector is commonly used by casting the memory array to uint4: uint4 *text4 = ( uint4 * ) d_text; var = text4[i]; In order to extract the 16 chars from var, i am currently using bitwise operations. For example: s_array[j * 16 + 0] = var.x & 0x000000FF; s_array[j * 16 + 1] = (var.x >> 8) & 0x000000FF; s_array[j * 16 + 2] = (var.x >> 16) & 0x000000FF; s_array[j * 16 + 3] = (var.x >> 24) & 0x000000FF; My question is, is it possible to recast var (or for that matter *text4) to unsigned char in order to avoid the additional overhead of the bitwise operations?

  • Single-entry implementation gone wrong

    - by user745434
    I'm doing my first single-entry site and based on the result, I can't see the benefit. I've implemented the following: .htaccess redirects all requests to index.php at the root Url is parsed and each /segment/ is stored as an element in an array First segment indicates which folder to include (e.g. "users" » "/pages/users/index.php"). index.php file of each folder parses the remaining elements in the segments array until array is empty. content.php file of each folder is included if there are no more elements in the segments array, indicating that the destination file is reached Sample File structure ( folders in [] ): [root] index.php [pages] [users] index.php content.php [profile] index.php content.php [edit] index.php content.php [other-page] index.php content.php Request: http://mysite.com/users/profile/ .htaccess redirects request to http://mysite.com/index.php URL is parsed and segments array contains: [1] users, [2] profile index.php maps [1] to "pages/users/index.php", so includes that file pages/users/index.php maps [2] to pages/users/profile/index.php, so includes that file Since no other elements in the segments array, the contents.php file in the current folder (pages/users/profile) is included. I'm not really seeing the benefit of doing this over having functions that include components of the site (e.g. include_header(), include_footer(), etc.), so I conclude that I'm doing something terribly wrong. I'm just not sure what it is.

  • Issues with signal handling [closed]

    - by user34790
    I am trying to actually study the signal handling behavior in multiprocess system. I have a system where there are three signal generating processes generating signals of type SIGUSR1 and SIGUSR1. I have two handler processes that handle a particular type of signal. I have another monitoring process that also receives the signals and then does its work. I have a certain issue. Whenever my signal handling processes generate a signal of a particular type, it is sent to the process group so it is received by the signal handling processes as well as the monitoring processes. Whenever the signal handlers of monitoring and signal handling processes are called, I have printed to indicate the signal handling. I was expecting a uniform series of calls for the signal handlers of the monitoring and handling processes. However, looking at the output I could see like at the beginning the monitoring and signal handling processes's signal handlers are called uniformly. However, after I could see like signal handler processes handlers being called in a burst followed by the signal handler of monitoring process being called in a burst. Here is my code and output #include <iostream> #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/wait.h> #include <sys/time.h> #include <signal.h> #include <cstdio> #include <stdlib.h> #include <sys/ipc.h> #include <sys/shm.h> #define NUM_SENDER_PROCESSES 3 #define NUM_HANDLER_PROCESSES 4 #define NUM_SIGNAL_REPORT 10 #define MAX_SIGNAL_COUNT 100000 using namespace std; volatile int *usrsig1_handler_count; volatile int *usrsig2_handler_count; volatile int *usrsig1_sender_count; volatile int *usrsig2_sender_count; volatile int *lock_1; volatile int *lock_2; volatile int *lock_3; volatile int *lock_4; volatile int *lock_5; volatile int *lock_6; //Used only by the monitoring process volatile int monitor_count; volatile int usrsig1_monitor_count; volatile int usrsig2_monitor_count; double time_1[NUM_SIGNAL_REPORT]; double time_2[NUM_SIGNAL_REPORT]; //Used only by the main process int total_signal_count; //For shared memory int shmid; const int shareSize = sizeof(int) * (10); double timestamp() { struct timeval tp; gettimeofday(&tp, NULL); return (double)tp.tv_sec + tp.tv_usec / 1000000.; } pid_t senders[NUM_SENDER_PROCESSES]; pid_t handlers[NUM_HANDLER_PROCESSES]; pid_t reporter; void signal_catcher_1(int); void signal_catcher_2(int); void signal_catcher_int(int); void signal_catcher_monitor(int); void signal_catcher_main(int); void terminate_processes() { //Kill the child processes int status; cout << "Time up terminating the child processes" << endl; for(int i=0; i<NUM_SENDER_PROCESSES; i++) { kill(senders[i],SIGKILL); } for(int i=0; i<NUM_HANDLER_PROCESSES; i++) { kill(handlers[i],SIGKILL); } kill(reporter,SIGKILL); //Wait for the child processes to finish for(int i=0; i<NUM_SENDER_PROCESSES; i++) { waitpid(senders[i], &status, 0); } for(int i=0; i<NUM_HANDLER_PROCESSES; i++) { waitpid(handlers[i], &status, 0); } waitpid(reporter, &status, 0); } int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { if(argc != 2) { cout << "Required parameters missing. • Does DKIM works with subdomains?

    - by Feelsgoodman
    ISP's recommend you segment your marketing and transactional emails by using different IPs. I want to start using DKIM, but since DKIM is a domain based reputation system I wonder if signing with the same company.com domain will impact the reputation of transactional emails, since both them and marketing will be signed with the same domain? Is using DKIM with subdomains possible? Would something like this: bulk.company.com and transactional.company.com be a good idea? Thanks!

  • Using smartctl to get vendor specific Attributes from ssd drive behind a SmartArray P410 controller

    - by Lairsdragon
    Hi! Recently I have deployed some HP server with SSD's behind a SmartArray P410 controller. While not official supported from HP the server work well sofar. Now I like to get wear level info's, error statistics etc from the drive. While the SA P410 supports a passthru of the SMART Command to a single drive in the array the output I was not able to the the interesting things from the drive. In this case especially the value the Wear level indicator is from interest for me (Attr.ID 233), but this is ony present if the drive is directly attanched to a SATA Controller. smartctl on directly connected ssd: # smartctl -A /dev/sda smartctl version 5.38 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] Copyright (C) 2002-8 Bruce Allen Home page is http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/ === START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === SMART Attributes Data Structure revision number: 5 Vendor Specific SMART Attributes with Thresholds: ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 3 Spin_Up_Time 0x0000 100 000 000 Old_age Offline In_the_past 0 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0000 100 000 000 Old_age Offline In_the_past 0 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0002 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0002 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 8561 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0002 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 55 192 Power-Off_Retract_Count 0x0002 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 29 232 Unknown_Attribute 0x0003 100 100 010 Pre-fail Always - 0 233 Unknown_Attribute 0x0002 088 088 000 Old_age Always - 0 225 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0000 198 198 000 Old_age Offline - 508509 226 Load-in_Time 0x0002 255 000 000 Old_age Always In_the_past 0 227 Torq-amp_Count 0x0002 000 000 000 Old_age Always FAILING_NOW 0 228 Power-off_Retract_Count 0x0002 000 000 000 Old_age Always FAILING_NOW 0 smartctl on P410 connected ssd: # ./smartctl -A -d cciss,0 /dev/cciss/c1d0 smartctl 5.39.1 2010-01-28 r3054 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-10 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net (Right, it is complety empty) smartctl on P410 connected hdd: # ./smartctl -A -d cciss,0 /dev/cciss/c0d0 smartctl 5.39.1 2010-01-28 r3054 [x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-10 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net Current Drive Temperature: 27 C Drive Trip Temperature: 68 C Vendor (Seagate) cache information Blocks sent to initiator = 1871654030 Blocks received from initiator = 1360012929 Blocks read from cache and sent to initiator = 2178203797 Number of read and write commands whose size <= segment size = 46052239 Number of read and write commands whose size > segment size = 0 Vendor (Seagate/Hitachi) factory information number of hours powered up = 3363.25 number of minutes until next internal SMART test = 12 Do I hunt here a bug, or is this a limitation of the p410 SMART cmd Passthru?

  • Aliased network interfaces and isc dhcp server

    - by Jonatan
    I have been banging my head on this for a long time now. There are many discussions on the net about this and similar problems, but none of the solutions seems to work for me. I have a Debian server with two ethernet network interfaces. One of them is connected to internet, while the other is connected to my LAN. The LAN network is 10.11.100.0 (netmask 255.255.255.0). We have some custom hardware that use network 10.4.1.0 (netmask 255.255.255.0) and we can't change that. But we need all hosts on 10.11.100.0 to be able to connect to devices on 10.4.1.0. So I added an alias for the LAN network interface so that the Debian server acts as a gateway between 10.11.100.0 and 10.4.1.0. But then the dhcp server stopped working. The log says: No subnet declaration for eth1:0 (no IPv4 addresses). ** Ignoring requests on eth1:0. If this is not what you want, please write a subnet declaration in your dhcpd.conf file for the network segment to which interface eth1:1 is attached. ** No subnet declaration for eth1:1 (no IPv4 addresses). ** Ignoring requests on eth1:1. If this is not what you want, please write a subnet declaration in your dhcpd.conf file for the network segment to which interface eth1:1 is attached. ** I had another server before, also running Debian but with the older dhcp3 server, and it worked without any problems. I've tried everything I can think of in dhcpd.conf etc, and I've also compared with the working configuration in the old server. The dhcp server need only handle devices on 10.11.100.0. Any hints? Here's all relevant config files: /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server INTERFACES="eth1" /etc/network/interfaces (I've left out eth0, that connects to the Internet, since there is no problem with that.) auto eth1:0 iface eth1:0 inet static address 10.11.100.202 netmask 255.255.255.0 auto eth1:1 iface eth1:1 inet static address 10.4.1.248 netmask 255.255.255.0 /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf ddns-update-style none; option domain-name "???.com"; option domain-name-servers ?.?.?.?; default-lease-time 86400; max-lease-time 604800; authorative; subnet 10.11.100.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0; pool { range 10.11.100.50 10.11.100.99; } option routers 10.11.100.102; } I have tried to add shared-network etc, but didn't manage to get that to work. I get the same error message no matter what...

  • Hardware recommendation for Solaris 10 + ZFS data warehouse server.

    - by Justin
    The server would run a 2 drive (mirrored root pool for OS and master database segment). And would run individual zpools for each remaining drive (loss of data is acceptable). Initial requirements would be: 2x 7540 xeons (6 core) 32gig memory. 12 drives. A 4U/2U server (6/8 core and 2/4 sockets cpu support) with internal disks / or external JBOD. Capacity to house a disk per CPU core is important.

  • How to rename a file inside a folder using a shell command?

    I have a file at some/long/path/to/file/myfiel.txt. I want to rename it to some/long/path/to/file/myfile.txt. Currently I do it by mv some/long/path/to/file/myfiel.txt some/long/path/to/file/myfile.txt , but typing the path twice isn't terribly effective (even with tab completion). How can I do this faster? (I think I can write a function to change the filename segment only, but that's plan B).

  • How do I prevent TCP connection freezes over an OpenVPN network?

    - by Jason R
    New details added at the end of this question; it's possible that I'm zeroing in on the cause. I have a UDP OpenVPN-based VPN set up in tap mode (I need tap because I need the VPN to pass multicast packets, which doesn't seem to be possible with tun networks) with a handful of clients across the Internet. I've been experiencing frequent TCP connection freezes over the VPN. That is, I will establish a TCP connection (e.g. an SSH connection, but other protocols have similar issues), and at some point during the session, it seems that traffic will cease being transmitted over that TCP session. This seems to be related to points at which large data transfers occur, such as if I execute an ls command in an SSH session, or if I cat a long log file. Some Google searches turn up a number of answers like this previous one on Server Fault, indicating that the likely culprit is an MTU issue: that during periods of high traffic, the VPN is trying to send packets that get dropped somewhere in the pipes between the VPN endpoints. The above-linked answer suggests using the following OpenVPN configuration settings to mitigate the problem: fragment 1400 mssfix This should limit the MTU used on the VPN to 1400 bytes and fix the TCP maximum segment size to prevent the generation of any packets larger than that. This seems to mitigate the problem a bit, but I still frequently see the freezes. I've tried a number of sizes as arguments to the fragment directive: 1200, 1000, 576, all with similar results. I can't think of any strange network topology between the two ends that could trigger such a problem: the VPN server is running on a pfSense machine connected directly to the Internet, and my client is also connected directly to the Internet at another location. One other strange piece of the puzzle: if I run the tracepath utility, then that seems to band-aid the problem. A sample run looks like: [~]$ tracepath -n 192.168.100.91 1: 192.168.100.90 0.039ms pmtu 1500 1: 192.168.100.91 40.823ms reached 1: 192.168.100.91 19.846ms reached Resume: pmtu 1500 hops 1 back 64 The above run is between two clients on the VPN: I initiated the trace from 192.168.100.90 to the destination of 192.168.100.91. Both clients were configured with fragment 1200; mssfix; in an attempt to limit the MTU used on the link. The above results would seem to suggest that tracepath was able to detect a path MTU of 1500 bytes between the two clients. I would assume that it would be somewhat smaller due to the fragmentation settings specified in the OpenVPN configuration. I found that result somewhat strange. Even stranger, however: if I have a TCP connection in the stalled state (e.g. an SSH session with a directory listing that froze in the middle), then executing the tracepath command shown above causes the connection to start up again! I can't figure out any reasonable explanation for why this would be the case, but I feel like this might be pointing toward a solution to ultimately eradicate the problem. Does anyone have any recommendations for other things to try? Edit: I've come back and looked at this a bit further, and have found only more confounding information: I set the OpenVPN connection to fragment at 1400 bytes, as shown above. Then, I connected to the VPN from across the Internet and used Wireshark to look at the UDP packets that were sent to the VPN server while the stall occurred. None were greater than the specified 1400 byte count, so the fragmentation seems to be functioning properly. To verify that even a 1400-byte MTU would be sufficient, I pinged the VPN server using the following (Linux) command: ping <host> -s 1450 -M do This (I believe) sends a 1450-byte packet with fragmentation disabled (I at least verified that it didn't work if I set it to an obviously-too-large value like 1600 bytes). These seem to work just fine; I get replies back from the host with no issue. So, maybe this isn't an MTU issue at all. I'm just confused as to what else it might be! Edit 2: The rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper: I've now isolated the problem a bit more. It seems to be related to the exact OS that the VPN client uses. I have successfully duplicated the problem on at least three Ubuntu machines (versions 12.04 through 13.04). I can reliably duplicate an SSH connection freeze within a minute or so by just cat-ing a large log file. However, if I do the same test using a CentOS 6 machine as a client, then I don't see the problem! I've tested using the exact same OpenVPN client version as I was using on the Ubuntu machines. I can cat log files for hours without seeing the connection freeze. This seems to provide some insight as to the ultimate cause, but I'm just not sure what that insight is. I have examined the traffic over the VPN using Wireshark. I'm not a TCP expert, so I'm not sure what to make of the gory details, but the gist is that at some point, a UDP packet gets dropped due to the limited bandwidth of the Internet link, causing TCP retransmissions inside the VPN tunnel. On the CentOS client, these retransmissions occur properly and things move on happily. At some point with the Ubuntu clients, though, the remote end starts retransmitting the same TCP segment over and over (with the transmit delay increasing between each retransmission). The client sends what looks like a valid TCP ACK to each retransmission, but the remote end still continues to transmit the same TCP segment periodically. This extends ad infinitum and the connection stalls. My question here would be: Does anyone have any recommendations for how to troubleshoot and/or determine the root cause of the TCP issue? It's as if the remote end isn't accepting the ACK messages sent by the VPN client. One common difference between the CentOS node and the various Ubuntu releases is that Ubuntu has a much more recent Linux kernel version (from 3.2 in Ubuntu 12.04 to 3.8 in 13.04). A pointer to some new kernel bug maybe? I'm assuming that if that were so, then I wouldn't be the only one experiencing the problem; I don't think this seems like a particularly exotic setup.
