  • Strange MSI error when setup.exe is run

    We're using Visual Studio 2008's Setup Project to create an installer for our .NET 3.5 app. We host the .exe and .msi files on a website for our client to access, and produce new ones regularly to provide updates. This has all been fine until recently we've noticed some cases where installing via the .exe fails. The symptoms are: The .exe downloads fine, and runs fine. It appears to download the .msi successfully (the "downloading application files" step plods through happily), but then when it gets to the end of the "preparing to install" step, instead of launching the installer UI it pops up a message saying "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package". You'd think that the .msi is just corrupt or something, but running it explicitly (even downloading it from the same location as the .exe to do so) works just fine. This problem is occurring on just some of our machines, which are running a mixture of XP and Windows7. The only pattern I can see in those machines that experience the problem is that they tend to have had the application installed on them longer (i.e. updating the app rather than installing for the first time). It seems to me that it might be something to do with how/where the .exe downloads the .msi to, and perhaps different versions are conflicting there? Has anyone experienced this before? Does anyone know where the installer .exe puts the .msi that it downloads?

  • Finding the second highest number in array

    I'm having difficulty to understand the logic behind the method to find the second highest number in array. The method used is to find the highest in the array but less than the previous highest (which has already been found). The thing that I still can't figure it out is why || highest_score == second_highest is necessary. For example I input three numbers: 98, 56, 3. Without it, both highest and second highest would be 98. Please explain. int second highest = score[0]; if (score[i] > second_highest && score[i] < highest_score || highest_score == second_highest) second_highest = score[i];

  • X-Domain and P3P Headers

    Hi, I have a website A.com and a domain at B.com with a widget inside an iframe getting data from A.com. I want to allow x-domain cookies to be passed from a.com to inside the iframe using ASP.NET My understanding is that - I can do this in IE using P3P Headers - such that the A.com cookie is passed to the iframe and session | cookie data is preserved. The P3P headers have to be sent from the A.com and from the iframe. Is this correct ? In dev, my understanding is if I "accept all cookies" in IE - then P3P headers won't matter anyway and so this should all just work. If I put on Medium Security then P3P is required.

  • flash as3, fade in/out layering problem

    Ok, what im trying to do is make a day to night cycle behind my landscape. There is a sun and a moon, they rotate in a circle on opposite sides.   • How do I manipulate the scroll bars so that a div with content that changes size is showing the same

    What I have is a div, for example is 800*800 px, and inside of this div is a SVG image, which can fit in the div but also can get very large, say 5000*5000 px, and I need to manipulate the scrollbars so that when the SVG has changed size the scrollbars adjust so that you are seeing the same center of your 'viewport' that you were seeing before. The reason I use 'viewport' is because I have seen exactly what I am trying to achieve done in WPF. Initially it sets the center as the center of the SVG so that when the SVG gets larger then the container the scrollbars automatically scroll to show the center of the SVG. If the user scrolls the 'viewports' center is updated and any changes in size now center there. I need this to be cross-browser compliant and done only with javascript. However I really don't care what container the SVG is being bounded by.

  • Jquery mouseover event issues

    Hi I am currently working on a project where I am using jQuery to animate a block of text on mouse over. The event listener is on the containing div (as shown by the code below) and works really well until the mouse is over the title (.views-field-title) which is absolutely above the containing div. The animation begins to jump almost as though it is starting over?   • Menu Control in Master Page fails to use CSS styles

    I'm working on a web application that uses ASP.NET 3.5 and C#. Structurally, I have a master page with a menu control on it. The control serves as my navigation, and it gets its items from a SiteMapDataSource control and a corresponding Web.sitemap file. The problem is that some styles do not render properly when you specify the CssClass property. More specifically, the selected and hover styles don't respond to css styles. I'm aware I might be able to programmically determine the current page and select the corresponding menu item manually so it receives the proper style class, but before I resort to hacking C# and Javascript together to fix this functionality, I'm open to ideas.

  • Implement a vpn

    I want to build an application client(client.exe) - server to do the following: when the clients run it they are thrown in a VPN and they can communicate each other within 1 applicataion. For example : clients run client.exe and they can see each other in LAN ONLY in Starcraft. From what i have read the right type of vpn for this situation is Secured Socket Tunneling Protocol: "Secure socket tunneling protocol, also referred to as SSTP, is by definition an application-layer protocol. It is designed to employ a synchronous communication in a back and forth motion between two programs. It allows many application endpoints over one network connection, between peer nodes, thereby enabling efficient usage of the communication resources that are available to that network. " Question: I don't have experience with networking programming so my question for the ones who have, is this the right approach? PS1: i don't want something done like OpenVpn, i do this as learning exercise.   • How to change out-of-focus text selection color in Xcode?

    Okay, I'll bite. I've got really pleasant code/window colors set up in Xcode. Ordinarily, my selection color is very visible. When I am doing a project search and iterating through the results, however, the results list stays in focus and the found text remains out of focus, using a different background color. This color is extremely hard to detect, especially when the text is embedded in a larger code block and the view is shifting around as it scrolls to the results. Here's an example: Left side is in focus (just normal selection), right side is out of focus (during project find) Often it takes a few seconds to find where the heck the selected text is. Unless I'm just missing it, Xcode seems to offer no way to change this particular selection color. Interestingly, it also doesn't seem to follow the selection color from the Appearance panel. Does anyone know a way to change this color or force it to be more visible, short of changing my entire color scheme around?

  • Repeating Group Messages in Quickfix C++

    We cannot seem to process some group messages with QuickFix. I am trying to set up a connection with the ICE exchange using QuickFix (C++). I have created a custom data dictionary to handle ICE's non-standard messages. The first message to handle is a SecurityDefinition. The message contains about 13000 entries broken into blocks of 100. I attached the message below (the first two entries with CR/LF added for clarity). My question is in the data dictionary, I defined a group as part of the entry with all the fields they specify in the group. Yet the message is rejected before it gets to the cracker as having an invalid tag (tag = 305). Message 2 Rejected: Tag not defined for this message type:305 Does this dictionary entry look correct. Is there any documentation anywhere on how to handle group messages?     I have a form (Quote) with an auto-number ID, on the form at the moment are two subforms that show different items (sub 1 shows partition modules sub 2 shows partition abutments) both forms use the same parts tables to build them. Both forms are linked to the quote form using the ID. All works well until the forms is refreshed or re-loaded, subform 1 shows the module names and quantities and blank spaces for the abutment names but shows the quantiews for the abutments, the reverse of this is shown in the abutments subform 2. When the lists for the variuos types and the detailed parts lists are printed they are correct. This seems to be only a visual problem. All based on Access 2003.   • WPF EventRouting to Children

    Is there any way to broadcast a RoutedEvent to all of my children in WPF? For example lets say I have a Window that has 4 children. 2 of them know about the RoutedEvent 'DisplayYourself' and are listening for it. How can I raise this event from the window and have it sent to all children? I looked at RoutingStrategy and Bubble is the wrong direction, Tunnel and Direct don't work because I don't know which children I want to send this to. I just want to broadcast this message and have whoever cares about it handle it. update: I declared the events in a static class. public static class StaticEventClass { public static readonly RoutedEvent ClickEvent = EventManager.RegisterRoutedEvent("Click", RoutingStrategy.Bubble, typeof(RoutedEventHandler), typeof(StaticEventClass)); public static readonly RoutedEvent DrawEvent = EventManager.RegisterRoutedEvent("Draw", RoutingStrategy.Bubble, typeof(RoutedEventHandler), typeof(StaticEventClass)); } The problem is when I raise the event from my window, the children never see it.   • Apache/Tomcat configuration to allow multiple incoming DNS served by one app (SAAS)

    Is there a way to setup apache and tomcat so that I can have d1.webapp.com d2.webapp.com d3.webapp.com etc. All hosted by the same tomcat instance without having to add aliases to the HOSTS element in the tomcat config file? I will be allowing new users to have thier own domain when they sign up and it will be a subdomain of the web app. I don't want to keep updating the hosts file for aliases and restarting tomcat though each time a new user signs up.
