• Unable to mount XP share using fs-cifs from Linux

  I have a head unit that runs Linux that is connected to my PC via an Ethernet cable. I have a Windows XP share on this PC that the head unit needs to be able to mount, however, when mounting using the following command, it fails. It is worthy to note that /mnt does not exist on the filesystem, but I was told by the company who gave us these units that fs-cifs should automatically create the /mnt/net folders if they don't exist.

• Samba creates two files on copy of one file

  Hi, I've set up Samba share on a Centos system and all works fine except whenever I copy a file to a share it makes two files, the actual file and what looks to be a log file, which has an appending ._ on the front of it. So for example if I copy index.php it copies that one, plus it creates ._index.php with semi looking log info in it. How do I stop Samba doing this? I'm sure its in smb.conf somewhere but can't find it. Cheers

• External hard drive becomes unwriteable after awhile

  I have an external USB hard drive mounted in Ubuntu 9.10 with full read/write abilities over SMB. If it stays on for awhile though, I lose the ability to write to it. I end up having to ssh in and unmount, mount, reboot in order to have write ability again. Any reason on what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Installed Framework 3.5 (Server Features) Installed Framework 4.5 RC (MS Download) executed C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319>aspnet_regiis.exe -i (I'd use -iru on existing servers but this is a clean build). Published via File System (SMB share) Converted the folder into an application using the .Net 4.0 Integrated App Pool Stopped/restarted everything. Browsing to localhost/TestApp results in a 403.14 (Directory browsing forbidden) What step have I missed out? The site in question is MVC4 and targets the 4.5 RC framework

  I have a situation here. I have an intrusion detection system and it constantly alerts me that a remote host is accessing our AD's registry remotely. Our remote hosts are mainly Windows XP and our ADs are W2K8. The remote hosts access them over SMB port 445 Is it normal for Windows hosts to access AD's remote registry? My colleagues confirmed with me that both host and AD is clean from virus with endpoint protection enabled. Thanks.

• Active directory integration not working properly with winbind and samba

  I'm trying to get my linux box to use active directory authentication. I believe I have almost everything setup correctly. I'm able to issue wbinfo -g and wbinfo -u and see all the groups and users respectively. Brief intro to my setup: The username I use on my linux box to do admin things is nick. My active directory username is nwalke. They have two different passwords. I am able to log in to the box with nick and that user's password and I'm also able to login as nwalke with nwalke's password. The curious bit: Upon creating the active directory user's home directory, I run a script that requires root access. This is to setup some system wide things like a samba share for them. When I log in as nwalke, I enter my nwalke password and it succeeds. I'm then greeted with [sudo] password for nick:. If I enter my nwalke password here, it says Sorry, try again.. If I enter nick's password, it says Sorry, user nick is not allowed to execute scriptname as root. If I do groups as nwalke, I see that magically my user has been given the group nick. Now, I accidentally thought that nick had a UID of 100, not 1000. So originally in my smb.conf I had idmap uid 1000-10000. The only thing I can think of, is that I logged in with nwalke while that was still set and now I'm just being presented with a UID of 1000 forcing linux to think I'm nick. I'm not really sure where to go from here. Like I said, I'm fairly certain active directory is communicating with my server properly, but something must not be mapped right on the linux side. Any thoughts? Windows is listening on TCP port 445: TCP 0.0.0.0:445 WIN7TEST:0 ABHÖREN The corresponding incoming firewall rule isn't activated (4th column): When I choose "workplace network" the SMB incoming port 445 rule is still disabled in the advanced windows firewall configuration. I thought "public network" / "workplace network" and so on is influencing the windows firewall rules!?   Windows 7 keeps asking for a password every time I mount a webdav. I don't want to store a password in a .bat file because it's so insecure. Is there any way to force system store it? Manually adding credentials in user manager helps storing passwords for SMB shares but for webdav doesn't. btw, as far as I remember, Vista had the same problems.

We are using RHEL3-U8 as OS on most servers here, don't ask me why or suggest to upgrade, it's not on today's schedule. I can list the share without problems, even cd in there. Both targets are in the same subnet, so network problem should be out, even if the LAN goes through a VPN with optimizers, MTU has already been decreased to 1450. I can also mount the share through NFS but then the files are all root.root 700 and I need to read them with another user...

For testing annd for getting a dying physical machine working I would like to store my VMDK on here.   I have a file server with ubuntu-server installed it is accessed usually through smb either from pc (ubuntu) or laptop (windows 7) Sometimes it happens that folder names on the file server are changing to some meaningless name, like TOZC0N~L or TOJNL7~U The hard disks seem to be fine, and I can´t imagine that samba is messing up folder names. After searching a lot about weather printer can be directly accessed as a SMB share, I decided to make Ubuntu server as print server. The Windows clients send the print jobs to the server and the server will send those jobs via Ethernet to the printer. I followed this how-to for installing the driver. The driver compilation fails with the error that gtk 2.0 package is not available. I cannot have gtk on a headless server, it is very necessary that it should not have any graphical/desktop packages. What would be the solution for installing UFRII on Ubuntu 12.04 Server.

• Eclipse won't let me select a Windows share as Workspace

  Environment: Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit), Eclipse Helios 3.6 (64-bit), Android 2.3 SDK + ADT. All works great, but I can only select a workspace that's on the local system. Eclipse won't let me select shared folder on a Samba server. Ubuntu's URI for this share is of the form: smb://[email protected]/sandbox/workspace But even if I typed this manually into the edit box, Eclipse won't accept it. I don't have this problem with Eclipse 3.6 on Windows. Is there a workaround to solve this?

• How to move files over samba share with gnomevfs cli

  Ok I am in the process of backing up my film collection to a NAS and I wanted to automate this as much as possible as I have to work at the same time. I am trying to setup a daily dump of ISO's ready to be converted overnight. I would like to do this as a cron job using gnomevfs. I have been able to connect and do an ls command successfully with gnomevfs-ls smb://user:WORKGROUP:password@media-centre/videos/ but I am having trouble setting up a mv command from a local folder to the same shared folder keep getting the Usage: gnomevfs-mv <from> <to> quote which isn't particularly informative ;) any ideas?
