  • SSH port forwarding. Connection refused [closed]

    - by Kein
I want to make a port forward from my public server to my home pc, to connect through ssh. What have I done wrong? From home pc I run command: ssh -R 8022:127.0.0.1:22 remote.host Now when I try to connect with: ssh remote.host -p 8022 I get error "Connection refused" But when I connect to remote.host through ssh, and try to run: ssh localhost -p 8022 It connects to my home PC. How I can connect to home with one simple command? ssh remote.host -p 8022

  • ssh freezes when trying to connect to some hosts

    - by NS Gopikrishnan
When I try to ssh to particular machine/s in a list, The SSH command happens to be freezing. I tried out setting ssh timeout. But then also it's freezes even after the timeout. In verbose mode : OpenSSH_3.9p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7a Feb 19 2003 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for * debug1: Connecting to x358.x.server.com [10.x.x.x] port 22. debug1: fd 3 clearing O_NONBLOCK debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /export/home/sqlrpt/.ssh/identity type -1 debug1: identity file /export/home/sqlrpt/.ssh/id_rsa type -1 debug1: identity file /export/home/sqlrpt/.ssh/id_dsa type 2 At this point it freezes. A work around I thought was to create a child process for each ssh calls and if the process doesn't respond after a timeout - Kill it. But are there any less complex ways, so that I can accommodate it in a shell script itself rather than going for a C/C++ program ?

  • SSH error: "Corrupted MAC on input" or "Bad packet length"

    - by William Ting
I have 3 boxes set up as shown: The DFW box can communicate to the SFO / internet just fine, and I send files AUS - DFW. However, every time I trying transferring DFW - AUS it fails over SSH (ssh client, rsync, scp, sftp, etc) with the following error: Corrupted MAC on input. Disconnecting: Packet corrupt Occasionally I'll get a different error: Bad packet length 2097180. Disconnecting: Packet corrupt I've restarted the DFW box, as well as replaced the network cable. I'm not sure what else might be causing problems. Right now to get files from DFW I have to use DFW - SFO - AUS which is not optimal.

  • Enable Cisco ASA as an SSH Tunneling

    - by Jim
I am trying to utilize my Cisco ASA as a SSH Tunnel. I've configured this before when using a Linux server as the SSH target, however I cannot seem to get it to work with the ASA. I have configured and enabled SSH on the Cisco ASA, as well as a username that I can SSH to the console, however the SSH Tunneling feature does not work. For example, on my PC I use Putty with a Local Tunnel defined to a server behind the ASA. I should be able to (if SSH connected to the ASA) be able to access the server. See screenshot of putty. has anyone come across this before? Again this is to use my Cisco ASA as a SSH tunnel, this is not a port forwarding. -Jim

  • File manager (Nautilus) hangs or is ultra slow when listing contents of ssh/sftp server

    - by NahsiN
I used to use File -- Connect to server to connect to my remote ssh a lot before 12.04/11.10. But now in a fresh install of 12.04, whenever I try to access the remote files, nautilus either always hangs or is ultra slow (5 mins) in listing the directory contents. Most of the time I have to force quit or xkill. Mounting using SSHFS works fine. The ssh server is fast and it works fine via putty, mc (using fish) and normal terminal. I also installed nautilus in Lubuntu 12.04 (virtualbox) and to my surprise, browsing is fast and smooth. Both versions of nautilus are at 3.4.2 thus I am led to believe the problem might be lying somewhere in Ubuntu 12.04. But I am clueless. All suggestions welcome. I really need to solve this problem.

  • UEC - Unable to SSH into instance, asks for password

    - by nijanthanh
I am attempting to set up a private cloud using Ubuntu 10.04.4 Server. I am following the tutorial at http://cssoss.wordpress.com/2010/11/26/eucabook-v1-1/ . All steps go on perfectly apart from that I am unable to SSH into the running instances. I have created the instance using a public key and try to SSH into instance using the private key. However it asks for password. I am able to ping the instance though. I have tried using both the pre-built images from the store as well as custom built images. Several people seem to have the same problem but there does not seem to be any working solution. Thanks in advance.

  • Cisco ASA and SixXS IPv6 tunnel endpoint?

    - by Martijn Heemels
I recently installed a Cisco ASA 5505 firewall on the edge of our LAN. The setup is simple: Internet <-- ASA <-- LAN I would like provide the hosts in the LAN with IPv6 connectivity by setting up a 6in4 tunnel to SixXS. It would be nice to have the ASA as tunnel endpoint so it can firewall both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic. Unfortunately the ASA apparently can't create a tunnel itself, and can't port-forward protocol 41 traffic, so I believe I would have to do one of the following instead: Set up a host with it's own IP outside the firewall, and have that function as tunnel-endpoint. The ASA can then firewall and route the v6 subnet to the LAN. Set up a host inside the firewall that functions as endpoint, separated via vlan or whatever, and loop the traffic back into the ASA where it can be firewalled and routed. This seems contrived, but would allow me to use a VM instead of a physical machine as endpoint. Any other way? What would you suggest is the optimal way to set this up? P.S. I do have a spare public IP address available if needed, and can spin up another VM in our VMware infrastructure.

  • GRE Tunnel over IPsec with Loopback

    - by Alek
Hello, I'm having a really hard time trying to estabilish a VPN connection using a GRE over IPsec tunnel. The problem is that it involves some sort of "loopback" connection which I don't understand -- let alone be able to configure --, and the only help I could find is related to configuring Cisco routers. My network is composed of a router and a single host running Debian Linux. My task is to create a GRE tunnel over an IPsec infrastructure, which is particularly intended to route multicast traffic between my network, which I am allowed to configure, and a remote network, for which I only bear a form containing some setup information (IP addresses and phase information for IPsec). For now it suffices to estabilish a communication between this single host and the remote network, but in the future it will be desirable for the traffic to be routed to other machines on my network. As I said this GRE tunnel involves a "loopback" connection which I have no idea of how to configure. From my previous understanding, a loopback connection is simply a local pseudo-device used mostly for testing purposes, but in this context it might be something more specific that I do not have the knowledge of. I have managed to properly estabilish the IPsec communication using racoon and ipsec-tools, and I believe I'm familiar with the creation of tunnels and addition of addresses to interfaces using ip, so the focus is on the GRE step. The worst part is that the remote peers do not respond to ping requests and the debugging of the general setup is very difficult due to the encrypted nature of the traffic. There are two pairs of IP addresses involved: one pair for the GRE tunnel peer-to-peer connection and one pair for the "loopback" part. There is also an IP range involved, which is supposed to be the final IP addresses for the hosts inside the VPN. My question is: how (or if) can this setup be done? Do I need some special software or another daemon, or does the Linux kernel handle every aspect of the GRE/IPsec tunneling? Please inform me if any extra information could be useful. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • use ssh tunnel with phpmyadmin

    - by JohnMerlino
I been using ssh tunnel to bypass firewall of remote mysql server. On my Ubuntu 12.04 installation, it works via the terminal and it works when using a program called mysql workbench. However, that program freezes often and I want to try phpmyadmin as an alternative. However, I cannot connect to remote server using ssh tunnel on phpmyadmin, albeit I can connect locally. These are the steps I've tried: 1) Open a tunnel, listening on localhost:3307 and forwarding everything to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:3306 (used 3307 because MySQL on my local machine uses the default port 3306): ssh -L 3307:localhost:3306 [email protected] So now I have the port for tunnel open and I have my local mysql installation default port: $ netstat -tln Active Internet connections (only servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:3306 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:3307 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN ... 2) Now I can easily connect to remote server via localhost using the terminal: $ mysql -u user.name -p -h 127.0.0.1 -P 3307 Notice that I expicitly identify 3307 as the port, so traffic forwards to the remote server, and hence it logs me in to the remote server. Unfortunately, the localhost/phpmyadmin local login interface doesn't allow you to specify a port option. So I modify the config-db.php file and change the $dbport variable to 3307, under the impression that the phpmyadmin interface will now work with port 3307: $ sudo vim /etc/phpmyadmin/config-db.php $dbport='3307'; Then I restart the mysql server. Unfortunately, it didn't work. When I use the remote credentials to login, it gives me error: #1045 Cannot log in to the MySQL server

  • How do I correctly SSH port forward using LiveReload on Redhat?

    - by program247365
Referencing this page: http://feedback.livereload.com/knowledgebase/articles/86280-if-you-edit-files-directly-on-your-server It says you can remotely port forward the LiveReload specific port of 35729, using this command: ssh -L 35729:127.0.0.1:35729 mylogin@myremoteserverIP When I run the -v option, I get: debug1: Local connections to LOCALHOST:35729 forwarded to remote address 127.0.0.1:35729 debug1: Local forwarding listening on ::1 port 35729. debug1: channel 0: new [port listener] debug1: Local forwarding listening on 127.0.0.1 port 35729. debug1: channel 1: new [port listener] debug1: channel 2: new [client-session] debug1: Entering interactive session. debug1: Sending environment. debug1: client_input_channel_req: channel 2 rtype [email protected] reply 1 debug1: Connection to port 35729 forwarding to 127.0.0.1 port 35729 requested. debug1: channel 3: new [direct-tcpip] channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused debug1: channel 3: free: direct-tcpip: listening port 35729 for 127.0.0.1 port 35729, connect from 127.0.0.1 port 63673, nchannels 4 I thought editing my /etc/services with this line, would work, but it doesn't: livereload 35729/tcp # livereload usage with guard-livereload Every time I attempt to connect with the browser extension, I believe It's getting blocked by my server. What am I missing here? Do I need to edit /etc/services for this to work?

  • Autossh dies after time

    - by Justin
My setup is Ubuntu 10.04 on AWS Autossh to create a tunnel for MySQL The tunnel is automatically created using Upstart (/etc/init/autossh.conf): respawn console none start on (local-filesystems and net-device-up IFACE=eth0) stop on [!12345] script #user/IP Address redacted exec autossh -M 20000 -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -L 3306:127.0.0.1:3306 [email protected] end script On boot the tunnel is created, works great. After some random idle time it dies. Any thoughts on how to keep it alive? I don't know what's killing autossh.

  • Running multiple services on Port 443, Tunnel SSH over HTTPS

    - by lajuette
Situation: I want to tunnel SSH sessions through HTTPS. I have a very restrictive firewall/proxy which only allows HTTP, FTP and HTTPS traffic. What works: Setting up a tunnel through the proxy to a remote linux box that has a sshd listening at port 443 The problem: I have to have a web server (lighty) running at port 443. HTTPS traffic to other ports is forbidden by the proxy. Ideas so far: Set up a virtual host and proxy all incoming requests to localhost: (e.g. 22) $HTTP["host"] == "tunnel.mylinux.box" { proxy.server = ( "" => (("host" => "127.0.0.1", "port" => 22)) ) } Unfortunately this won't work. Am i doing something wrong, or is there a reason, that this won't work?

  • Reverse proxy using hop and RDP

    - by Sergei
I am trying to connect from Vista to XP using RDP via reverse proxy using putty and an intermidiate host. There are myriad articles on the internet how to do it using vnc, ssh servers, winsshd, etc, but I can't find anything that helps me in this specific case. What I have: Windows XP host behind the firewall - 'destination' linux host running ssh on the internet - 'intermediate' windows host behind the firewall - 'source' All I want to do is open reverse tunnel from destination to intermidiate and use this tunnel for connecting back from the source. That should be simple to setup, however I just cannot make it. This is what I do: On 'destination', open putty session, create tunnel to 'intermediate' using following settings: source port 3389, destination is 'source:33389', direction is local On 'source', open putty session, create tunnel to 'intermediate'using following settings: source port 33389, destination is 'destination:33389', direction is local Finally, on source, open termnal services client and connect it to localhost:33389.Unfortunately it seems like packets do go somewhere but eventually client times out. Am I totally misunderstanding the concept? Please help!

  • SSH Login to an EC2 instance failing with previously working keys...

    - by Matthew Savage
We recently had an issues where I had rebooted our EC2 instance (Ubuntu x86_64, version 9.10 server) and due to an EC2 issue the instance needed to be stopped and was down for a few days. Now I have been able to bring the instance back online I cannot connect to SSH using the keypair which previously worked. Unfortunately SSH is the only way to get into this server, and while I have another system running in its place there are a number of things I would like to try and retrieve from the machine. Running SSH in verbose mode yields the following: [Broc-MBP.local]: Broc:~/.ssh ? ssh -i ~/.ssh/EC2Keypair.pem -l ubuntu ec2-xxx.compute-1.amazonaws.com -vvv OpenSSH_5.2p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8l 5 Nov 2009 • How can I avoid SSH's host verification for known hosts?

    - by shantanuo
I get the following prompt everytime I try to connect a server using SSH. I type "yes", but is there a way to aovid this? The authenticity of host '111.222.333.444 (111.222.333.444)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is f3:cf:58:ae:71:0b:c8:04:6f:34:a3:b2:e4:1e:0c:8b. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?

  • Can I port forward to an established reverse ssh tunnel

    - by Ben Holness
I have three computers, A, B and C A has initiated a reverse ssh tunnel to B: ssh -nTNx -p 443 -R 22222:localhost:22 [user]@[server] If I log in to B, I can use 'ssh -p 22222 localhost' and I get a login prompt for A. If I try 'ssh -p 22222 [public IP of B]', it doesn't work What I would like to be able to do is have C connect to A without needing to login to B. So from C I could 'ssh -p 22222 [public IP of B]' and I would get the login prompt for A. I am using debian and shorewall and I have a basic understanding of how things work. I have tried various combinations of REDIRECT and DNAT rules, but haven't had any luck. I have tried using the same port (22222) and a different port (forwarding 22223 from C to 22222 on localhost). Any ideas? Cheers, Ben

  • What are the common pitfalls that would stop Authorised Key SSH access, and how do I find and correct for them?

    - by Ashimema
EDIT: This question was reworked to make it more useful to the community and less specific to me. Questions seem to come up reasonably often regarding ssh and problems with authorised keys access, but very few seem to have a clear answer anywhere; Server keeps asking for password after I've copied my SSH Public Key to authorized_keys ssh not accepting public key how do I use ssh with key access in 11.10 passwordless ssh not working So, In the communities opinion, what is the tried and tested method for getting to the bottom of such problems?

  • Upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 broke remote SSH access?

    - by stackoverflowuser95
I can no longer connect via SSH to my Ubuntu instance after upgrading from 13.04 to 13.10 with: # do-release-upgrade Connecting with $ ssh -vvv [ip here] gives me: OpenSSH_6.3, OpenSSL 1.0.1e 11 Feb 2013 debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 debug1: Connecting to [ip here] [[ip here]] port 22. debug1: connect to address [ip here] port 22: Connection timed out ssh: connect to host [ip here] port 22: Connection timed out So I tried uncommenting #PasswordAuthentication yes in /etc/ssh/sshd_config, and restarting with /etc/init.d/ssh restart; but there was no difference.

  • Ubuntu 9.10 RSA authentication: ssh fails, filezilla runs fine

    - by MariusPontmercy
This is quite a mistery for me. I usually use passwordless RSA authentication to login into my remote *nix servers with ssh and sftp. Never had any problem until now. I cannot connect to an Ubuntu 9.10 machine: user@myclient$ ssh -i .ssh/Ganymede_key [email protected] [...] debug1: Host 'ganymede.server.com' is known and matches the RSA host key. debug1: Found key in /home/user/.ssh/known_hosts:14 debug2: bits set: 494/1024 debug1: ssh_rsa_verify: signature correct debug2: kex_derive_keys debug2: set_newkeys: mode 1 debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS debug2: set_newkeys: mode 0 debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent debug2: service_accept: ssh-userauth debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug2: key: .ssh/Ganymede_key (0xb96a0ef8) debug2: key: .ssh/Ganymede_key ((nil)) debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,password,keyboard-interactive debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Offering public key: .ssh/Ganymede_key debug2: we sent a publickey packet, wait for reply debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,password,keyboard-interactive debug1: Trying private key: .ssh/Ganymede_key debug1: read PEM private key done: type RSA debug2: we sent a publickey packet, wait for reply debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey,password,keyboard-interactive debug2: we did not send a packet, disable method debug1: Next authentication method: keyboard-interactive debug2: userauth_kbdint debug2: we sent a keyboard-interactive packet, wait for reply debug2: input_userauth_info_req debug2: input_userauth_info_req: num_prompts 1 Then it falls back to password authentication. If I disable password authentication on the remote machine my connection attempt just fails with a "Permission denied (publickey)." state. Same thing for sftp from command line. The "funny" thing is that the exact same RSA key works like a charm with a Filezilla sftp session instead: 12:08:00 Trace: Offered public key from "/home/user/.filezilla/keys/Ganymede_key" 12:08:00 Trace: Offer of public key accepted, trying to authenticate using it. 12:08:01 Trace: Access granted 12:08:01 Trace: Opened channel for session 12:08:01 Trace: Started a shell/command 12:08:01 Status: Connected to ganymede.server.com 12:08:02 Trace: CSftpControlSocket::ConnectParseResponse() 12:08:02 Trace: CSftpControlSocket::ResetOperation(0) 12:08:02 Trace: CControlSocket::ResetOperation(0) 12:08:02 Status: Retrieving directory listing... 12:08:02 Trace: CSftpControlSocket::SendNextCommand() 12:08:02 Trace: CSftpControlSocket::ChangeDirSend() 12:08:02 Command: pwd 12:08:02 Response: Current directory is: "/root" 12:08:02 Trace: CSftpControlSocket::ResetOperation(0) 12:08:02 Trace: CControlSocket::ResetOperation(0) 12:08:02 Trace: CSftpControlSocket::ParseSubcommandResult(0) 12:08:02 Trace: CSftpControlSocket::ListSubcommandResult() 12:08:02 Trace: CSftpControlSocket::ResetOperation(0) 12:08:02 Trace: CControlSocket::ResetOperation(0) 12:08:02 Status: Directory listing successful Any thoughts?
