  • ACL suggestions needed for a small light framework developed

    Hello all, I've developed a small framework that was needed for the firm that I work. The problem is I've not made a full level framework, as developers are finding tough time to understand what is what, So I made a simple structure with app/controllers, app/models, app/views so that they can clearly separate the code and can get used to higher frameworks later. All other things like components/modules/helpers are just coded for now in a file called app_functions.php. The above framework is derived from cakePHP, not all, but just the framework uses a modified code of dispatcher of cake. The models all work with normal sqls, and views with pure html using a template engine. Now I'm trying to develop a small application over it, it cameout well, but ACL is something which many versions of it have not proved that satisfactory. Can anybody suggest a good ACL. I've checked phpGACL(too heavy), Zend_ACL likely won't be compatible, Cakephp's ACL which wont fit in the structure,as we are not using cake's SQLs, as there too many queries hitting the database for one page display.

I want to learn from the user of setters and getters, $this-, constructors, and so on...! Can anyone please suggest me something? I noticed MOST teachings leave out the explanation of $this-. I want to learn magic methods, decorators, encapsulation, etc... Feel free to suggest something that I haven't explicitly listed.

  • Good book suggestions for building enterprise software

    Enterprise software are built using technologies/softwares/terminologies/APIs such as EJB, JBoss, Seam, Hibernate(JPA), Maven, Eclipse, Spring, JTS, JMS, JNDI etc. I know there are great books out there for each of these individually, however can someone suggest a book or two that covers all (or most of) these topics in lesser detail and gives examples of how these are integrated? I have intentionally left the client side stuff out because its highly unlikely a single book would cover that much. If anyone knows of a book (or books) that cover most of or various combinations (like EJB, Hibernate, Spring and Seam) of these technologies, please do suggest the same. The idea is not to become an expert in all however know about them in reasonable detail and why each one is required.

  • Suggestions on implementing an iPad magazine app

    I've been tasked with creating a magazine style app for iPad. Ideally it would look a little something like the Zinio app: http://www.zinio.com/ipad/ . This app is effectively a shell, allowing you to sample magazines (eg. read the first few pages) and select them for download. The magazines appear to have some sort of overlay, allowing you to interact with some things (eg. tap to watch a video). A few questions that come to mind: How would I go about delivering content to the user? In-app purchases aren't really an option, as some content will need to be delivered for free. Is it possible to download a package and make this available within the application? What format would be suitable for displaying the magazine? Sequential images, PDF, ebook? I'll need to have some form of interactivity. I guess I could have some form of lookup table, which would include information such as if the user taps on this page, within these coordinates, then launch this item. Anyone dealt with any similar issues?

  • Cannot find code completion and suggestions in Aptana 2.0

    Greetings, I recently started using Aptana 1.5 to work on a site via FTP, developing pages in .php format with a mixture of HTML, CSS, jQuery, and -- naturally -- PHP. I develop a page with all of these elements together to save time, then separate them. One thing that I really liked about Aptana 1.5 was that it completed code (brackets, parentheses, etc) and suggested things as I typed. I upgraded to 2.0 today and cannot figure out for the life of me how to bring back all of these capabilities -- or remember if I had to do anything in 1.5 to get them. Here is a picture of what I am looking for Notice the suggestion for margin: and the "HTML, Js, CSS" up top. Any help with getting this to work in 2.0 would be greatly appreciated. Ever since installing 2.0, 1.5 has been throwing error messages and I can't seem to get my FTP settings to stay locked in.

    I'm porting an application I developed in Visual Studio 2008 over to Cocoa. I'm currently doing a 'learn-as-you-go' approach to Cocoa, so I can experiment with different ideas and techniques in smaller, simpler projects and eventually combine them into one big application. My program logic is as follows (in a dumbed-down sense). Items in the list are mandated by my boss. Application is started 1a. Verify CD program is in drive. Verify license. If found and is valid, skip to step 7 Display license agreement. Display serial number prompt. Verify and save serial number. Hide all prior windows. Load main application window Intercept requests and commands from main application window, including making a duplicate main application window Exit program when requested by user What would the best bet be for this type of application? From another question I asked, I found out that I should keep the 'main application' window in a separate XIB file from the rest, because I might need to clone and interact with it. I know that since Cocoa and Objective-C is based off of C, there is a Main method somewhere. But what would you all suggest as a starting place for an application like this?

    I have a table with list of cycle codes.CYCLE_DEFINITION. each and every cycle_code has 12 months entries in another table(PM1_CYCLE_STATE). Now the requirement is if any of the month is missing.how could i show it? for eg: the output of the above query is cycd cm 102 1 102 10 102 11 102 12 103 1 103 10 103 11 103 12 104 1 104 10 104 11 104 12 Now lets say the row with cycd=104 and cm=11 is not present in the table,then the above query will not get the row 104 11. I want to display only those rows. how could i do it?

  • Naming suggestions for a function returning parent prototype

    I'm having a naming trouble with a function which returns parent prototype of specified object. It's being used like this: # Pseudo Code MyClass { super(MyClass,this).constructor.call(.... The problem is that I want to use a word which is as superior as "super", but "super" is reserved even it's undefined. Now I'm using "parent", but the window object has a property named parent. I hate Javascript. What should I name this function? Names have to start with lowercase and have to be short.

  • Genetic programming in c++, library suggestions?

    I'm looking to add some genetic algorithms to an Operations research project I have been involved in. Currently we have a program that aids in optimizing some scheduling and we want to add in some heuristics in the form of genetic algorithms. Are there any good libraries for generic genetic programming/algorithms in c++? Or would you recommend I just code my own? I should add that while I am not new to c++ I am fairly new to doing this sort of mathematical optimization work in c++ as the group I worked with previously had tended to use a proprietary optimization package. We have a fitness function that is fairly computationally intensive to evaluate and we have a cluster to run this on so parallelized code is highly desirable. So is c++ a good language for this? If not please recommend some other ones as I am willing to learn another language if it makes life easier. thanks!

The code is a reflection of what I see in my head and how I would like to go about business. Does my code even look ok, or am I way off base?   • Suggestions: Anti-Pattern counter-examples

    It doesn't seem that this exact question has been asked before, so I'll fire away: Most of us are familiar with the concept of an anti-pattern. However, avoiding implementation of anti-patterns can in principle swing too far the other way and cause problems itself. As an example, "Design by Committee" has a counter-example that I'd call "Design by Maverick" - wherein the design of an important feature is handed off to an individual to do what they think best, with the intention of reviewing their work later and deciding whether it should be finalised or go through another iteration. This takes much longer in practice as the rest of the team are occupied by other things, and can end up with a feature that's useful to nobody, particularly if the Maverick is not themselves an experienced end-user. Does anyone have any more examples of anti-pattern counter-examples?

    Greetings! Last semester in college, my teacher in the Computer Languages class taught us the esoteric language named Whitespace. In the interest of learning the language better with a very busy schedule (midterms), I wrote an interpreter and assembler in Python. An assembly language was designed to facilitate writing programs easily, and a sample program was written with the given assembly mnemonics. Now that it is summer, a new project has begun with the objective being to rewrite the interpreter and assembler for Whitespace 0.3, with further developments coming afterwards. Since there is so much extra time than before to work on its design, you are presented here with an outline that provides a revised set of mnemonics for the assembly language. This post is marked as a wiki for their discussion. Have you ever had any experience with assembly languages in the past? Were there some instructions that you thought should have been renamed to something different? Did you find yourself thinking outside the box and with a different paradigm than in which the mnemonics were named? If you can answer yes to any of those questions, you are most welcome here. Subjective answers are appreciated! Stack Manipulation (IMP: [Space]) Stack manipulation is one of the more common operations, hence the shortness of the IMP [Space]. There are four stack instructions. hold N Push the number onto the stack copy Duplicate the top item on the stack copy N Copy the nth item on the stack (given by the argument) onto the top of the stack swap Swap the top two items on the stack drop Discard the top item on the stack drop N Slide n items off the stack, keeping the top item Arithmetic (IMP: [Tab][Space]) Arithmetic commands operate on the top two items on the stack, and replace them with the result of the operation. The first item pushed is considered to be left of the operator. add Addition sub Subtraction mul Multiplication div Integer Division mod Modulo Heap Access (IMP: [Tab][Tab]) Heap access commands look at the stack to find the address of items to be stored or retrieved. To store an item, push the address then the value and run the store command. To retrieve an item, push the address and run the retrieve command, which will place the value stored in the location at the top of the stack. save Store load Retrieve Flow Control (IMP: [LF]) Flow control operations are also common. Subroutines are marked by labels, as well as the targets of conditional and unconditional jumps, by which loops can be implemented. Programs must be ended by means of [LF][LF][LF] so that the interpreter can exit cleanly. L: Mark a location in the program call L Call a subroutine goto L Jump unconditionally to a label if=0 L Jump to a label if the top of the stack is zero if<0 L Jump to a label if the top of the stack is negative return End a subroutine and transfer control back to the caller halt End the program I/O (IMP: [Tab][LF]) Finally, we need to be able to interact with the user. There are IO instructions for reading and writing numbers and individual characters. With these, string manipulation routines can be written. But I don't know with the code below why it isn't cooperating. If I place the div tags on it. And then I hit the print button. I see no output.     I have been working with java (J2EE) for about 4 years. I have been putting off the certification for a while now. I bought the exam last year and still have not taken the exam. it expires in june so I am going to give it a shot. I know certifications don't get jobs but interviews but where I work...certification will put a 'stamp' on my resume and I think it'll popout in the eyes of the management. Anyways, I am going for JAVA 6. Can someone suggest some good mock exams that are kind of new and relevant. I came across this link but most of these exams are fairly old. I am using kathy Sierra's book for studying. Any other resources/pointers?
