  • Live asynchronous time feed for websites

    - by Maven
I want to show up the time over my website based over the location of the user, let’s say if user one browsing the website is from USA than the time should be what is in USA currently and same for China etc. and all. I was wondering if there exists a JavaScript plugin for it but I didn’t find any as dynamic as I want, my requirements include: Something that can be fully stylized according to website theme (no iframes) The pattern I want is to be in (HH:MM:SS) It should be asynchronous like the second [SS] keep ticking and the time keep updating Is this possible, a way around to achieve it?

  • MVC: Structuring Feed Output

    - by Brian Wigginton
The framework I'm using on my project follows the MVC Pattern. I"M building JSON feeds and need to structure them in a different way then what the system gives me by default from the ORM. Where should I be handling the task of mangling and shaping my data that I'll serve up, in the model, view or controller? Right now I'm doing it in my controller, then passing that data to the view. I can see this fitting better under the Model or the View but not sure which one.

  • mysql twitter/facebook like status feed

    - by barjonah
Hi, I have two tables. One named status like this... user_id | status --------+----------- 1 | random status from user 1 2 | random status from user 2 3 | random message from user 3 4 | staus from user 4 1 | second status for user1 etc... and another named users_following like this... user_id | is_following --------+----------- 1 | 2 1 | 3 2 | 1 3 | 2 meaning that user 1 is following both users 2 and 3 etc... So, let's say I chose user 1. What is the best query (performance wise) to show the status updates of users that user 1 is following, in this case users 2 and 3 currently I have something like SELECT * from status WHERE user_id IN(SELECT is_following FROM users_following WHERE user_id='1') LIMIT 0,5 but I don't think this is good for performance if a user was following thousands+ of users

  • Accessing data feed

    - by racket99
I have a Java program on my desktop which displays financial data gleaned from the web. It is a 3rd party application. What I would like to do is intercept the data before it goes to the Java application and record it into a flat file for the purpose of later data analysis. Is this at all possible? I imagine the data are available and are entering my computer through some port which the Java app picks up and then displays. Help appreciated. Thanks

  • User Guide to Dropbox Shared Folders

    - by Matthew Guay
Dropbox is an incredibly useful tool for keeping all your files synced between your computers and the cloud.  Here we’re going to look at how you can keep all of your team on the same page with Dropbox shared folders. Creating a Shared Folder Setting up a shared folder in Dropbox is easy.  Add the files you want to share to a folder in Dropbox on your computer, then right-click in the folder, select Dropbox, and then choose Share This Folder.   Alternately, log into your Dropbox account online, click the drop-down menu beside the folder you want to share, and click Share this folder. Now, enter the email addresses of the people you want to share the folder with, and optionally enter a message explaining why you’re sharing the folder. The people you invite will receive an email inviting them to view and join the shared folder.  If they haven’t signed up for Dropbox, they can directly signup; otherwise, they can simply log into their Dropbox account and start adding or editing files. Shared folders have a slightly different icon in your Dropbox.  Notice the shared folder on the left has an icon with 2 people, while the folder on the right that is not shared, shows previews of its contents. See Your Shared Folder’s History Whenever your collaborators with your shared folders add or change files, you will see a tooltip notification telling you what changed. You can also view the changes online.  Log into your Dropbox account in your browser and select the Events tab.  This shows all changes to your Dropbox, but you can view only the changes in your shared folder by selecting its name on the left sidebar. Now you can see all recent changes to your folder, and can also see who added or removed each file.   On the bottom of the page, you can even add a comment that all the collaborators will see. If someone deleted a file you still need, you can restore it by clicking its link in this online history.  Or, you can view any deleted files by right-clicking in your Dropbox folder in Explorer.  Select Dropbox, and then click Show Deleted Files.   Get Notified When a Change is Made You’re not always in front of your computer; you’ve got a life beyond your projects, after all (at least hopefully).  If you really want to stay connected to what’s happening with your project, though, you can easily do that no matter where you are. Your shared Dropbox folder’s history page offers an RSS feed of all changes to the folder.  Click  the Subscribe to this feed hyperlink. Now, in the popup that opens, click “Copy to clipboard” so you can use this RSS feed. You can subscribe to RSS feeds through many web browsers, email clients, dedicated feed readers, and more.  In Firefox, Internet Explorer 7/8, or Opera, you can paste the feed address into your address bar and subscribe to the feed directly in your browser.   However, subscribing to the feed in a desktop application won’t help you much when you’re away from your computer.  One great option is to subscribe in the popular Google Reader.  Then you can check your feed from any browser, on any computer or mobile device. To add your Dropbox feed to Google Reader, log into Google Reader (link below), click Add a subscription on the top left, paste your RSS feed from Dropbox, and click Add.   Now you can see any changes to files or folders in Google Reader. You can even add your feed to your iGoogle homepage.  Click the Add it Now button on the right in the front page of Google Reader to add your feeds to iGoogle.   Now you can see updates on your files from your homepage.  If you’re using a different computer, just login to your Google account to see what’s happening. You can also access your Google Reader feeds from many programs and apps for most major Smartphones including iPhone, Windows Phone, and Blackberry. Receive a Tweet or Text When Changes are Made If you’re a hyper-connected individual, chances are you send and receive tweets on the go.  If so, this might be the best way for you to get notified when changes are made to your Dropbox shared folder.  To do this, first create a new Twitter account to publish your changes through.  If you don’t want the whole world to see your updates, click Settings and set your new Twitter account to Private. Once the new account is created, follow it with your normal Twitter account so you’ll see updates. Now, let’s publish our Dropbox RSS feed to Twitter.  Create an account with Twitterfeed (link below). Once your account is setup, add your feed to it.  Name your feed, and enter your Feed address from Dropbox.  Click Advanced Settings to make your feed work just like you want. In Advanced Settings, change the frequency to “Every 30 mins” to make sure you’re updated on changes as quick as possible.  You can also change other settings if you like. Click “Continue to Step 2”, and then click Twitter under the available services to add your account. Make sure your signed into your new Twitter account, and then click Authenticate Twitter. Allow the application. Now, finally, click Create Service. Whenever a change is made, you will receive a tweet via your new Twitter account.  And since you can receive tweets via text message or many mobile applications, you’ll never be very far away from your Dropbox changes!   Conclusion Dropbox shared folders are a great way to keep your whole team working together on the same files in a project.  And with these handy tricks, you can keep up with your shared files wherever you are! • Do I allowed to remove ads from feed in my News Reader app?

    - by Mahdi Ghiasi
I'm creating a News Reader app for Tablets and PCs. My app is fetching data from news sources by RSS feed of that websites (in the server-side). But some of these sites are showing some advertise banners at the end of each article. Should I remove that banners from feed? Am I legally/ethically allowed to do this? And what about If I want to put some other ads on my application? (Right at the end of each article) I mean, If I want to have my own advertising service...

  • Aggregating and displaying content from hundreds of RSS feeds

    - by Andrew LeClair
I'd like to build a website that aggregates and displays content from hundreds of RSS feeds. The feeds will be from different sites: Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, etc, so the content will be very heterogenous. In a perfect world — and this is more of a side issue — I would like to allow other people to help manage the list of feeds and assign tags to the content from each individual feed so that you can filter the items that are displayed. What I've tried so far: Google Feeds API – I thought this would be the answer, but unless I'm missing something, the FeedController will only output the collected feed content as separate lists. Is there any way to ask the Google Feeds API to aggregate and sort the content from many RSS feeds before displaying? Yahoo! Pipes – This also seemed like a good solution at first. I setup a Pipe that accesses a list of RSS feeds stored in a Google Doc spreadsheet and then aggregates the content. However, the output leaves a lot to be desired; Tumblr video posts, for example, only show a title and a permalink to the post, the embedded Youtube video is lost. PHP – I've seen this question, which looks like a good approach. I'm less proficient in PHP, so although I'm willing to learn, I'd ideally like to find a different approach. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • Is there a way to add an elmah rss feed to google reader?

    - by Jason Irwin
Elmah has an rss feed and rss digest feature. My feeds are working just fine from within my brwoser. However I would like to add them to google reader as this is my feed reader of choice. The problem is that Elmah uses an AXD handler to server its information - therefore the path to the RSS feed is not a physical one. For example the RSS feed for my site is located at: http://www.mysite.com/errors/elmah.axd/rss This is not a file nor does the folder structure exist - it is all part of the beauty of Elmah. When I attempt to add this virtual path as a feed in google reader i get: Your search did not match any feeds Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Jason

  • div automatically added in $item->get_description(); using simplepie

    - by Carey Estes
    I am getting a div that is appearing in the output from calling a RSS feed. It is ignoring my attempts to wrap it in a paragraph tag and pushes the data out to the div. foreach ($feed->get_items(0 , 3) as $item): $feedDescription = $item->get_content(); $image = returnImage($feedDescription); $image = scrapeImage($image); $image_url= $item->get_permalink(); $description = $item->get_description(); ?> <div class="item"> <h4><a href="<?php echo $item->get_permalink(); ?>"><?php echo $item->get_title(); ?></a></h4> <div class="image-box"><?php echo '<a href="' . $image_url . '"><img src="' . $image . '" /></a>'."\n";?></div> <p><?php echo $description ?></p> <p><a href="<?php echo $item->get_permalink(); ?>">Continue Reading</a></p> </div> <?php endforeach; ?> Here is the html output: <div class="item"> <h4><a href="#">Lorem Ipsum</a></h4> <div class="image-box"><a href="#"><img src="image.jpg"></a> </div> <p></p> <div>Lorem Ipsum description [...]</div> <p></p> <p><a href="#">Continue Reading</a></p> </div> Why does the description call add a div tag and not get wrapped in the paragraph tag?

  • How to get Facebook-Feeds in Trillian without connecting to Facebook-Chat?

    - by Protron
I installed the trial of Trillian 5.0 Build 22 (I don't know if the version 4 Astra is any different). I successfully added my Facebook account so I can see my facebook news on Trillian and works great. The problem is that I don't want to use the Facebook-chat, and if I disconnect the Facebook-chat the rest of the facebook stuff (news, events, groups, request) also disappears. I tried by setting the Facebook status to Away; and I'm not sure if someone can chat with me if I choose that; but anyway I still have the contacts list full of people I don't want. EDIT: Maybe I wasn't clear enough about the Facebook part. And that might be why some people fell this is off-topic. But when I talk about Facebook in this question, I'm not referring to the Facebook site at any point. I'm mean the Facebook plugin of Trillian (and it's not an user plugin; it's a built-in plugin).

  • Is it possible to view Facebook news feeds page by page rather than loading it all as I scroll?

    - by oscilatingcretin
If you want to scroll through your Facebook news feed (be it on the main feed, your personal feed, or in groups) to older parts, you have to scroll to the bottom, wait for the ajax load of the next part of the feed, and repeat. The problem with this is that, if you're scrolling down very far, the HTML document just gets bigger and bigger until your browser starts to die due to the overload of resources brought on by added HTML, text, and even images. This pretty much sets a limit to how far back you can scroll. Clicking on months and years on your personal feed has the same effect of cumulatively adding feed segments to the HTML document. I notice that this month/year feature is not available on the main feed and for groups. If there were a way to literally page through the feed so that only a single page's worth of feed data is loaded at a time, that would make scrolling through it much more doable.

  • parse more items

    - by user449891
    Currently I'm using zRSSFeed to parse a Menalto Gallery2 RSS feed, and only get about 5 details: link, description, title, etc. There are about 11 items within the tag. How can I get zRSSFeed to return all of them, including <media:thumbnail url="http..."> which includes a colon? Code from ZRSSFeed var html='';var row='odd';var xml=getXMLDocument(data.xmlString);var xmlEntries=xml.getElementsByTagName('item'); //if(options.header)html+='<div class="rssHeader">'+'<a href="'+feeds.link+'" title="'+feeds.description+'">'+feeds.title+'</a>'+'</div>'; //html+='<div class="rssBody">'+'<ul>';for(var i=0;i<feeds.entries.length;i++){ html+='<div class="rssBody">';for(var i=0;i<feeds.entries.length;i++){ var entry=feeds.entries[i];var entryDate=new Date(entry.publishedDate);var pubDate=entryDate.toLocaleDateString()+' '+entryDate.toLocaleTimeString(); //html+='<li class="rssRow '+row+'">' html+='<div>' //if(options.date)html+='<div>'+pubDate+'</div>' if(options.content){ //if(options.snippet&&entry.contentSnippet!=''){ //var content=entry.contentSnippet; //}else{ var content=entry.content; sq_arr = content.split('>'); sq_brr = sq_arr[0].split('?'); sq_crr = sq_arr[1].split(' width'); sq_drr = sq_crr[0].split('src'); sq_b = new RegExp(/\d+(?=\")/g).exec(sq_drr[1]); sq_c = sq_b*1-1; sq_rplc = sq_brr[1].replace(/\d+(?=\")/g, sq_c); sq_str = sq_brr[0] + '?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&' + sq_rplc + '>' + sq_crr[0] +'" height="75" width="75"></a>'; content = sq_str.r`enter code here`eplace(/&amp;/g, '&'); //} //html+='<p>'+content+'</p>' html+=content //html+='<'+options.titletag+'><a href="'+entry.link+'" title="View this feed at '+feeds.title+'" target="'+options.linktarget+'">'+entry.title+'</a></'+options.titletag+'>' } (A more human readable version -- cwallenpoole) var html=''; var row='odd'; var xml=getXMLDocument(data.xmlString); var xmlEntries=xml.getElementsByTagName('item'); html+='<div class="rssBody">'; for(var i=0;i<feeds.entries.length;i++){ var entry=feeds.entries[i]; var entryDate=new Date(entry.publishedDate); var pubDate=entryDate.toLocaleDateString()+' '+entryDate.toLocaleTimeString(); html+='<div>' if(options.content){ var content=entry.content; sq_arr = content.split('>'); sq_brr = sq_arr[0].split('?'); sq_crr = sq_arr[1].split(' width'); sq_drr = sq_crr[0].split('src'); sq_b = new RegExp(/\d+(?=\")/g).exec(sq_drr[1]); sq_c = sq_b-1; sq_rplc = sq_brr[1].replace(/\d+(?=\")/g, sq_c); sq_str = sq_brr[0] + '?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&' + sq_rplc + '>' + sq_crr[0] +'" height="75" width="75"></a>'; content = sq_str.r`enter code here`eplace(/&amp;/g, '&'); html+=content } // missing }???

  • How to flip video feed that's presented upside down?

    - by Zuul
Skype an other applications running under windows 7 Ultimate are presenting the video captured from the laptop built-in webcam upside down. I've tried many solution that I was able to find regarding issues like this, but to no avail. Some of the most relevant are discussed here: From Skype Support Network, the thread why is my video image of myself upside-down??? From ASUSTek Forums, the thread Built-in camera upside down Both present several potential solutions to this issue, but I've been unable to fix it for the laptop ASUS U6S. What I've already tried: Changing Drivers The driver that works must be the one from Windows, all others available from ASUS drivers either don't install or install but the webcam doesn't provide any video feed. This disallows all options that concern using an older driver or editing the .inf file as to manually adjust the settings. ASUS does not provide drivers for Windows 7, so I've used drivers from Windows Vista 32 Bit. Using the application manycam This application actually solves the issue (temporarily), but creates new ones: If I use the application to flip the video feed, Skype video call cease to work. This application doesn't save the settings, at least I wasn't able to find any way to save the settings I've used to flip the video feed. A computer restart brings all back to how it was, video feed upside down and if the application is still installed, Skype continues to fail on video calls. Regedit I've searched thru Windows Registry Editor as to find any reference to the webcam settings, hopping to find a key with the Flip parameter, since it's up to the driver to flip the image (by what I could ascertain from this problem). Couldn't find any reference to such settings, either they actually don't exist within the Windows Registry or they use some weird name that I could think off. System Configuration I was able to access the webcam system settings from the Windows Device Manager, but the tab that actually has the Image Rotation setting is always disabled. The same goes for the settings available from the Skype webcam options (that essentially is presenting the same settings as Windows Device Manager, just within a custom Skype pop-up). Question: How can I flip the video feed from the laptop's built-in webcam, as to properly see and broadcast the video?

  • DB structure for Twitter home/Facebook wall?

    - by mathon12
Basically a live feed of all your friends' recent posts. In a stupid sort of approach I think I'd start by building a query like: SELECT * FROM tblposts WHERE userid=friend_id_1OR userid=friend_id_2...... and so on Where friend_id_% is the userid of a friend from your friends list. But this must be a very inefficient way of doing it, right? Is there any faster way of doing this in MySQL? Maybe some clever DB schema? (I know FB uses Hadoob but I'm not experienced enough to go that far :( )

  • Facebook Graph API shows different results in me/home

    - by elekatonio
Hi, When I do a GET with my browser (already logged-in at Facebook): https://graph.facebook.com/me/home?access_token={token} the results are different than doing the same via a FB app using Facebook C# SDK. Specifically, what the API is not returning are feeds posted by other applications. Why can be this happening? Can't an application retrieve updates from other applications even if it has the read_stream permission? I even requested for additional permissions: read_stream,user_activities,friends_activities,friends_likes,user_likes,read_requests but nothing has changed. What I need is to get ALL and the same stories an user would see at his FB news feed.

  • Using Perl WWW::Facebook::API to Publish To Facebook Newsfeed

    - by Russell C.
We use Facebook Connect on our site in conjunction with the WWW::Facebook::API CPAN module to publish to our users newsfeed when requested by the user. So far we've been able to successfully update the user's status using the following code: use WWW::Facebook::API; my $facebook = WWW::Facebook::API->new( desktop => 0, api_key => $fb_api_key, secret => $fb_secret, session_key => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_session_key'), session_expires => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_expires'), session_uid => $query->cookie($fb_api_key.'_user') ); my $response = $facebook->stream->publish( message => qq|Test status message|, ); However, when we try to update the code above so we can publish newsfeed stories that include attachments and action links as specified in the Facebook API documentation for Stream.Publish, we have tried about 100 different ways without any success. According to the CPAN documentation all we should have to do is update our code to something like the following and pass the attachments & action links appropriately which doesn't seem to work: my $response = $facebook->stream->publish( message => qq|Test status message|, attachment => $json, action_links => [@links], ); For example, we are passing the above arguments as follows: $json = qq|{ 'name': 'i\'m bursting with joy', 'href': ' http://bit.ly/187gO1', 'caption': '{*actor*} rated the lolcat 5 stars', 'description': 'a funny looking cat', 'properties': { 'category': { 'text': 'humor', 'href': 'http://bit.ly/KYbaN'}, 'ratings': '5 stars' }, 'media': [{ 'type': 'image', 'src': 'http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/funny-pictures-your-cat-is-bursting-with-joy1.jpg', 'href': 'http://bit.ly/187gO1'}] }|; @links = ["{'text':'Link 1', 'href':'http://www.link1.com'}","{'text':'Link 2', 'href':'http://www.link2.com'}"]; The above, nor any of the other representations we tried seem to work. I'm hoping some other perl developer out there has this working and can explain how to create the attachment and action_links variables appropriately in Perl for posting to the Facebook news feed through WWW::Facebook::API. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • How can I create my own private RSS feed of selected podcasts?

    - by Bill Rodman
I would like to be able to browse the Internet and "drag" available MP3 files of various podcast episodes into my own private RSS feed. I would like to then subscribe to this RSS feed with iTunes. Do you know of any applications or services that would do this? (I subscribe to IT Conversations and they have a private RSS feed that you can create of their episodes. I like this feature very much. If only I had such a feature that would work more generally). One of the reasons I am looking for this, that my iPod Touch has problems handling podcast playlists that span multiple RSS feeds.

  • Google Reader can read this RSS feed, why can't my RSS reader?

    - by Nicole
I have a website that I would like to subscribe to via my RSS reader. The website itself doesn't publicize its RSS feed, however when I used Google Reader it was able to find one, and it works perfectly well. Google Reader cites http://www.stratfor.com/rss.xml as the address for the RSS feed. However, when I try to enter that feed, it says "Page not found". I suspect that this is because that file does exist on the website, but is forbidden; and that for some weird reason google reader has access to it. Is that the case? Anyways, I would really like my own RSS reader to be able to subscribe to it, because it has functionalities that Google reader does not. Besides, it intrigues me -- how come Google reader can read it, but other RSS reader cannot?

  • Subscribe to feed in Thunderbird from the command line?

    - by Coderer
From reading around the web, it looks like Firefox's "quick view" of an RSS feed sometimes lets you "Subscribe to this feed using" Thunderbird. For whatever reason, that's not an automatically-added option with my setup (FF 3.5.something + Thunderbird 3.0.something on Linux), so I figured I could just "Choose Application...", point at the Thunderbird binary, and be on my way. Not so -- nothing appears to happen. If I run thunderbird from the command line as thunderbird "http://path/to/feed" the app launches as normal. If it's already running, absolutely nothing happens. Is this impossible? Is there some mojo I can pass Firefox to tell it that Thunderbird exists? Should I just suck it up and copy/paste the URLs manually?
