  I have got one problem. which is as follow I have converted date to my local time as below $this->date_string = "%Y/%m/%d %h:%i:%s"; $timestamp = now(); $timezone = 'UP45'; $daylight_saving = TRUE; $time = gmt_to_local($timestamp, $timezone, $daylight_saving); $this->updated_date = mdate($this->date_string,$time); And Storing this field in to database. now at retrive time i want like this format "11-04-2011 4:50:00 PM" I have used this code $timestamp = strtotime($rs->updated_date); $date1 = "%d-%m-%Y %h:%i:%s %a"; $updat1 = date($date1,$timestamp); but this will give me only "11-04-2011 4:50:00 AM" but I have stored in like it was PM. • Syncing JS+PHP time

  Since the Date constructor is based on your PC's timezone and server-side is obviously dependent on the server's time settings... What procedures can I do to ensure that the timestamps I generate are consistent on both ends? I have a jQuery datepicker setup and I do a lot of work, I also have my own datepicker that's generated from server-side code which looks up db availability for bookings. I'm saving arrival/departure times on the server-side and the days are off by one because the JS is local timezone ( mine is Eastern ) . Is my only option doing something like making the JS call PHP to grab a timestamp?

• PHP install sqlite3 extension

  We are using PHP 5.3.6 here, but we used the --without-sqlite3 command when compiling PHP. (It stands in the 'Configure Command' column). But, it is very risky to recompile PHP on that server; there are many visitors. How can we install/use sqlite3? • How To Find Reasons of Why Site Goes Online/Offline

  Seems today a website I manage has been going online and offline throughout the entire day. I have no idea what is causing the issue so I am seeking guidance on where to start. It is a Wordpress based site. So here is what I DO know: I use a program that pings the server every minute and when the server is not responding me it emails me, so I can know exactly when the site is online and offline. The site between 8pm to 12pm 12.28, and around the 1a hour early morning 12.29 (New York City timezone, and all times below are in same timezone). At the time of the ups/downs I see a lot of strain on the memory usage. Look at the load average when the site is going online/offline (http://screencast.com/t/BRlfXkqrbJII). Then I ran this command to restart http (http://screencast.com/t/usVtYWZ2Qi) and the memory usage then goes down to this (http://screencast.com/t/VdTIy3bgZiQB). An hour after I restarted http, the site then went offline/online so restarting the http didn't do much help. When the site is going offline/online, I ran the top command and get this (http://screencast.com/t/zEwr7YQj3). Here is a top command when the site is at it's lowest (http://screencast.com/t/eaMfha9lbT - so this would be dubbged "normal"). Here is a bandwidth report (http://screencast.com/t/AS0h2CH1Gypq). The traffic doesn't seem to be that much (http://screencast.com/t/s7hrWNNic1K), but looking at my times the site is going up/down this may be one of the reasons? I have the dvp Nitro package at Media Temple (http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/nitro/). So at this point I would request some help in trying to figure out what the cause of this is, and how I can go about pinpointing this issue. ANY HELP is greatly appreciated.

• Kickstarting an Ubuntu Server 10.04 installation (DHCP fails)

  I'm trying to automate the network installation of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with an anaconda kickstart and everything seems to running except for the initial DHCP autoconfiguration. The installer attempts to configure the install via DHCP but fails on its first attempt. This brings me to a prompt where I can retry DHCP and it seems to always work on the second attempt. My issue is that this is not really automated if I have to hit retry for DHCP. Is there something I can add to the kickstart file so that it will automatically retry or better yet not fail the first time? Thanks.   My current LINQ query and example XML are below. What I'd like to do is select the primary email address from the email-addresses element into the User.Email property. The type element under the email-address element is set to primary when this is true. There may be more than one element under the email-addresses but only one will be marked primary. What is the simplest approach to take here? • iPhone Crash Report

  My iPhone app is crashing for certain users in UK. I tried using UK timezone and their region format but couldn't reproduce the crash on my iPhone or emulator. Eventually got a crash report and I was able to symbolicate it. However, I have a hard time understanding the results. It appears thread 0 crashed in a system library. The only call from my app is main.m. Thread 4 has something familiar.   Using SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2005, .net 2.0 with SP2 (has support for new SQL Server 2008 data types). Using DATETIME (instead of DATETIME2) works fine. But I'd rather use DATETIME2 to support the increased precision. What am I doing something wrong, or is DateTime2 not (fully) supported by SQLCLR ?

• Which Perl modules can be installed just by copying lib files?

  I'm an absolute beginner at Perl, and am trying to use some non-core modules on my shared Linux web host. I have no command line access, only FTP. Host admins will consider installing modules on request, but the ones I want to use are updated frequently (DateTime::TimeZone for example), and I'd prefer to have control over exactly which version I'm using. By experimentation, I've found some modules can be installed by copying files from the module's lib directory to a directory on the host, and using use lib "local_path"; in my script, i.e. no compiling is required to install (DateTime and DateTime::TimeZone again). How can I tell whether this is the case for a particular module? I realise I'll have to resolve dependencies myself. Additionally: if I wanted to be able to install any module, including those which require compiling, what would I be looking for in terms of hosting? I'm guessing at the moment I share a VM with several others and the minimum provision I'd need would be a dedicated VM with shell access?

Am I missing something crucial here? • How To Find Reasons of Why Site Goes Online/Offline

  Seems today a website I manage has been going online and offline throughout the entire day. I have no idea what is causing the issue so I am seeking guidance on where to start. It is a Wordpress based site. So here is what I DO know: I use a program that pings the server every minute and when the server is not responding me it emails me, so I can know exactly when the site is online and offline. The site between 8pm to 12pm 12.28, and around the 1a hour early morning 12.29 (New York City timezone, and all times below are in same timezone). At the time of the ups/downs I see a lot of strain on the memory usage. Look at the load average when the site is going online/offline (http://screencast.com/t/BRlfXkqrbJII). Then I ran this command to restart http (http://screencast.com/t/usVtYWZ2Qi) and the memory usage then goes down to this (http://screencast.com/t/VdTIy3bgZiQB). An hour after I restarted http, the site then went offline/online so restarting the http didn't do much help. When the site is going offline/online, I ran the top command and get this (http://screencast.com/t/zEwr7YQj3). Here is a top command when the site is at it's lowest (http://screencast.com/t/eaMfha9lbT - so this would be dubbged "normal"). Here is a bandwidth report (http://screencast.com/t/AS0h2CH1Gypq). The traffic doesn't seem to be that much (http://screencast.com/t/s7hrWNNic1K), but looking at my times the site is going up/down this may be one of the reasons? I have the dvp Nitro package at Media Temple (http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/nitro/). So at this point I would request some help in trying to figure out what the cause of this is, and how I can go about pinpointing this issue. ANY HELP is greatly appreciated.

Ensure PC is set to automatically adjust clock for daylight savings time. (For this timezone, daylight savings time ends at 3am on 4 Apr 2010.) 3) add following code : public void SetNewDateTime(DateTime dt) { Microsoft.VisualBasic.DateAndTime.Today = dt; // ignores time component Microsoft.VisualBasic.DateAndTime.TimeOfDay = dt; // ignores date component } private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { DateTime dt = new DateTime(2010, 4, 5, 5, 0, 0); // XX SetNewDateTime(dt); // XX System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(500); DateTime dt2 = new DateTime(2010, 4, 4, 1, 0, 0); SetNewDateTime(dt2); } 4) When button 1 is clicked, the PC clock eventually shows 2am, whereas 1 am was expected. (If code marked at "XX" is removed, the clock sometimes shows the correct time of 1 am). Any idea what is happening ? (Or is there a more reliable way of setting the PC clock from C# code ?) TIA.

• Why am I getting a ParseException when using SimpleDateFormat to format a date and then parse it?

  I have been debugging some existing code for which unit tests are failing on my system, but not on colleagues' systems. The root cause is that SimpleDateFormat is throwing ParseExceptions when parsing dates that should be parseable. I created a unit test that demonstrates the code that is failing on my system: import java.text.DateFormat; import java.text.ParseException; import java.text.SimpleDateFormat; import java.util.Date; import java.util.TimeZone; import junit.framework.TestCase; public class FormatsTest extends TestCase { public void testParse() throws ParseException { DateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyyMMddHHmmss.SSS Z"); formatter.setTimeZone(TimeZone.getDefault()); formatter.setLenient(false); formatter.parse(formatter.format(new Date())); } } This test throws a ParseException on my system, but runs successfully on other systems. java.text.ParseException: Unparseable date: "20100603100243.118 -0600" at java.text.DateFormat.parse(DateFormat.java:352) at FormatsTest.testParse(FormatsTest.java:16) I have found that I can setLenient(true) and the test will succeed. The setLenient(false) is what is used in the production code that this test mimics, so I don't want to change it.

• Storing date/times as UTC in database

  I am storing date/times in the database as UTC and computing them inside my application back to local time based on the specific timezone. Say for example I have the following date/time: 01/04/2010 00:00 Say it is for a country e.g. UK which observes DST (Daylight Savings Time) and at this particular time we are in daylight savings. When I convert this date to UTC and store it in the database it is actually stored as: 31/03/2010 23:00 As the date would be adjusted -1 hours for DST. This works fine when your observing DST at time of submission. However, what happens when the clock is adjusted back? When I pull that date from the database and convert it to local time that particular datetime would be seen as 31/03/2009 23:00 when in reality it was processed as 01/04/2010 00:00. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this a bit of a flaw when storing times as UTC? Example of Timezone conversion Basically what I am doing is storing the date/times of when information is being submitted to my system in order to allow users to do a range report. Here is how I am storing the date/times: public DateTime LocalDateTime(string timeZoneId) { var tzi = TimeZoneInfo.FindSystemTimeZoneById(timeZoneId); return TimeZoneInfo.ConvertTimeFromUtc(DateTime.UtcNow, tzi).ToLocalTime(); } Storing as UTC: var localDateTime = LocalDateTime("AUS Eastern Standard Time"); WriteToDB(localDateTime.ToUniversalTime());
