  • html widget communicating with server

    - by Nikita Rybak
I'm making html widget for websites. Let's say, it will display current stock indexes. In short, arbitrary website owner takes code snippet from me and includes it on his webpage http://website.com/index.html. When arbitrary user opens http://website.com/index.html, my code sends request to my server (provider.com), which performs necessary operations and returns information to user's browser. When response has arrived, user will see relevant stock value on http://website.com/index.html. In index.html service could be called like this <script type="text/javascript" src="provider.com/service.js"> </script> <div id="target_area"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> service.show("target_area", options); </script> Now, the problem is in the same origin policy: I can't just send ajax request from website.com to provided.com and return html to embed in client's webpage. I see several solutions, which I list below, but none quite satisfy me. I wonder, if you could suggest something, especially if you had some relevant experience. 1) iframe, plain and simple. Disadvantage: must have fixed dimensions + stupid scroll bars appearing in some browsers. Can be fixed with javascript, but all this browser-specific tinkering doesn't sound good to me. 2) JSONP. Problem: can't return whole chunk of html, must return only data. Then, on browser side, I'll have to use javascript to embed data into html snippet placed statically in index.html. Doesn't sound nice, because data format is not very simple and may even change later. 3) Use hidden iframe to do ajax requests. A bit tricky, but sounds like a way to go. Well, that's my thoughts on the subject. Are there any better ways? BTW, I tried to check some existing widgets too, but didn't find much useful information. All domain names used in this text are fictional and any resemblance is purely coincidental :)

  • Stream data with Node.js

    - by Saif Bechan
I want to know if it is possible to stream data from the server to the client with Node.js. From what I can understand all over the internet is that this has to be possible, yet I fail to find a correct example or solution. What I want is a single http post to node.js with AJAX. Than leave the connection open and continuously stream data to the client. The client will receive this stream and update the page continuously.

  • iPhone Javascript execution time

    - by Rudiger
Hi guys, In the Apple docs it says that JavaScript execution time is limited to 10 seconds for each top-level entry point. If your script executes for more than 10 seconds, Safari on iPhone OS stops executing the script at a random place I plan to have some Javascript run every 10 seconds or so that will do an AJAX query to the server and rewrite just the section of the page necessary. Will this be possible with these restrictions on the device?

  • Playing dynamically embedded sound object via Javascript

    - by Vikram Goyal
I need to background load some WAV files for an HTML page using AJAX. I use AJAX to get the details of the WAV files, then use the embed tag, and I can confirm that the files have loaded successfully because when I set autostart to true, the files play. However, I need the files to play only when the user clicks on a button (or an event is fired). The following is my code to preload these files: function preloadMedia() { for(var i = 0; i < testQuestions.length; i++) { var soundEmbed = document.createElement("embed"); soundEmbed.setAttribute("src", "/media/sounds/" + testQuestions[i].mediaFile); soundEmbed.setAttribute("hidden", true); soundEmbed.setAttribute("id", testQuestions[i].id); soundEmbed.setAttribute("autostart", false); soundEmbed.setAttribute("width", 0); soundEmbed.setAttribute("height", 0); soundEmbed.setAttribute("enablejavascript", true); document.body.appendChild((soundEmbed)); } } I use the following code to play the file (based on what sound file that user wants to play) function soundPlay(which) { var sounder = document.getElementById(which); sounder.Play(); } Something is wrong here, as none of the browsers I have tested on play the files using the code above. There are no errors, and the code just returns. I would have left it at that (that is - I would have convinced the client to convert all WAV's to MP3 and use MooTools). But I realized that I could play the sound files, which were not dynamically embeded. Thus, the same soundPlay function would work for a file embeded in the following manner: <embed src="/media/sounds/hug_sw1.wav" id="sound2" width="0" heigh="0" autostart="false" enablejavascript="true"/> anywhere within the HTML. And it plays well in all the browsers. Anyone have a clue on this? Is this some sort of undocumented security restriction in all the browsers? (Please remember that the files do get preloaded dynamically, as I can confirm by setting the autostart property to true - They all play). Any help appreciated.

    - by BigMad
    I created this contact form, inserting jQuery fadeLabel and validationEngine to beautify the form the file index.php / .html (I have not yet figured out which of the two versions put it) scripts are index: <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="/js/backtop.js"></script> <script src="/js/fadeLabel.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function () { $('form .fadeLabel').fadeLabel(); }); </script> <script src="/js/validationEngine-it.js"></script> <script src="/js/validationEngine.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ $("#form_box").validationEngine({ ajaxSubmit: true, ajaxSubmitFile: "contact.php", ajaxSubmitMessage: "Thank you, We will contact you soon !", success : false, failure : function() {} }) }); </script> <script src="/js/contactform.js"></script> however this is the part of the form's code <p id="form_success" class="success hide"><strong>Grazie!</strong> Il tuo messaggio è stato inviato con successo.</p> <form id="form_box"> <fieldset> <p><label for="name">Nome*</label><input type="text" id="name" name="name" class="validate[required] fadeLabel" value=""/></p> <p><label for="email">E-mail*</label><input type="email" id="email" name="email" class="validate[required,custom[email]] fadeLabel" value=""/></p> <p><label for="website">Sito web</label><input type="url" id="website" name="website" class="fadeLabel" value=""/></p> <p><label for="message">Messaggio*</label><textarea id="message" name="message" class="validate[required] fadeLabel" cols="30" rows="10" value=""></textarea></p> </fieldset> <p id="form_submit" class="submit"><button class="send">Invia</button> *Campi obbligatori</p> <p id="form_send" class="send hide">Invio in corso&hellip;</p> <p id="form_error" class="submit error hide"><button class="send">Invia</button> Si prega di correggere l'errore e re-inviarlo.</p> </form> This is the contact.php where it receives the data and sends 2 emails (one for me with the data and a thank you to those who contacted me) contact.php: <?php //include variables $my_email = "[email protected]"; $my_site = "adrianogenovese.com"; session_start(); $name = $_POST['name']; $email = $_POST['email']; $website = $_POST['website']; $message = $_POST['message']; $ip = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; //beginning to email me $to = $my_email; $sbj = "Richiesta Informazioni - $my_site"; $msg = " <html> ... //the body of the email to me ... </html> "; $from = $email; $headers = 'MIME-Version: 1.0' . SlideUp (). FadeOut () so that the sending of this email appears for 3 seconds "$ (" # form_send "). addClass ('hide')" before you do anything else then the form disappears up using some second type slideUp "$ (" # form_box "). addClass ('hide')" by displaying just the "$ (" # form_success "). removeClass ('hide')" in the address bar also appears the form data (e.g. ../index.php?name=test&email=example%40mail.com&website=&message=helloworld)

  • Wait for function to finish before starting again.

    - by Matthew Brown
Good Morning, I am trying to call the same function everytime the user presses a button. Here is what happens at the moment.. User clicks button - Calls function - function takes 1000ms+ to finish (due to animation with jQuery and AJAX calls) What I want to happen is every time the user presses the button it adds the function to the queue, waits for the previous call to finish, and then starts.. Is this possible? Sorry if my explanation is a bit confusing.. Thanks Matthew

  • ASP.NET Tab Controls

    - by George Stocker
I'm currently attempting to create a tabbed interface in a web application, and based on my search, there aren't any 'built in' tab controls in ASP.NET. There are some in the ASP.NET AJAX downloadable toolkit, as well as a wealth of 'pay for use' third party Tab Controls. My question is: What Tab control have you used for ASP.NET applications, and why do you use it?

  • Calling web services from your JSF code

    - by Abel Morelos
Let's say that you have a presentation tier in JSF, and that your business tier is accessed using web services. How would you call your web services from JSF? I was considering to have my backing beans to call the web services, but I just though I could use Ajax with JSF in order to connect to the web services. What would you choose and why? Any other choice you could recommend? Thanks.

  • PHP: Does $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH'] exist or not?

    - by Hank
All over the Internet, included even here at StackOverlow, people state that a good way to check if a request is AJAX or not is to do the following: strtolower($_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH']) == 'xmlhttprequest' ) However, I don't see $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH'] in the official PHP documentation And when I try to do the following: echo $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH']; Nothing is outputted. Am I doing something wrong? Because I'd really like to be able to use $_SERVER['HTTP_X_REQUESTED_WITH'] if it's available.

  • Can I pass a querystring that translates to a List<int> on the server?

    - by Denis Hoctor
Hi all, I'm writing a Google Maps app that requests data from the server using jQuery's $.ajax() to send the request to my MVC Contoller. This control expects a List for the category types. What should the querystring look like for this? I've tried http://localhost:9090/mapamenities?amenityTypes=1,5 http://localhost:9090/mapamenities?amenityTypes=[1,5] with no luck. The SearchRquest attribute I'm trying to bind to is public List AmenityTypes { get; set; } Thanks Denis

Hello, I would like to know if JSON with AJAX has a limitation to the amount of data an outgoing and returning parameter can carry? I would like to be able to send and return from the server a file with 10,000 lines, as a string. How should I achieve this task? Will a single parameter will be able to hand this? Thank you.
