    - by Christopher Edwards
Obviously it's early days, I do not know whether this is information that is in the public domain or not yet, but... I have trawled through some of this site - http://www.windowsphone7series.com/ but I can't seem to find the answer. Specifically will I be able to write an app on the phone that updates the cloud with the phones current GPS position in the background even when other apps are running in the foreground.

  • why develop in windows/desktop application?

    - by Alexander
Just wondering what your comments are regarding the current trend as everything is moving to the web or even the cloud. The significance of an OS or desktop application is getting less attention than web application. So to those folks out there who still develop windows applications, such as WPF. Why still do it? Why not move to web programming? Silverlight instead for example...

  • wordpress backend: retrict post tags to site tags only

    - by Richard
In the post screen, I want to remove the option of multi-authors being able to 'free tag' their posts. In other words, only allow tags that have been preset in the admin tags section.(these tags are of course visible in the tag cloud in posts screen) The concept is to prevent authors introducing random tags in their posts, leading to duplication and confusion.

  • Emulating Amazon SQS during development

    - by pyo
I'm quite interested in beginning some development using Amazon SQS, perhaps SimpleDB too, my question is this, are there any open source solutions that mimic the functionality, just for the purposes of development. I've already encountered the Eucalyptus project (http://open.eucalyptus.com) for creating an EC-esque cloud. I've not had any success with google, I suspect it's because the cost of entry is so inexpensive, but still, does anyone know of anything like this?

  • Most hazardous performance bottleneck misconceptions

    - by David Murdoch
The guys who wrote Bespin (cloud-based canvas-based code editor [and more]) recently spoke about how they re-factored and optimize a portion of the Bespin code because of a misconception that JavaScript was slow. It turned out that when all was said and done, their optimization produced no significant improvements. I'm sure many of us go out of our way to write "optimized" code based on misconceptions similar to that of the Bespin team. What are some common performance bottleneck misconceptions developers commonly subscribe to?

  • Searching via Tags in SharePoint 2010

    - by Ben
Is it possible to search on Tags within SharePoint 2010? I know you can refine your search based on Tag (Search for a keyword, then filter by Tags) and you can use the "Tag Cloud", but that doesnt let you search by more then one Tag. How would I for instance, search for some documents that I have tagged as "Technical" and "Internal", and return all items tagged with both of those tags?

  • Key Value Database For Windows?

    - by Axl
Other than MongoDB and Memcached, what key-value stores run on Windows? Most of the ones I've seen seem to only run on Linux (Hypertable, Redis, Lightcloud). • App Engine Datastore access

    - by Pablo Alvim
Is it possible to query App Engine's Datastore from outside the cloud, i.e. a client application? I could possibly write an app to be housed within AppStore and query the Datastore returning XML-formatted data; I want to know, however, if there are any Datastore endpoints which would allow me to do it directly. Also, in case it is possible, am I able to do so via SSL?

  • Hyperlinks and iPad videos

    - by bhan
Hello everybody, I'm trying to develop something in the cloud incorporating video, text and images. However, any hyperlinked content that appears above or below the video is unclickable, as the video takes the focus on the iPad. This isn't a problem with Safari in general, as it works on Desktop Safari. Thankyou, BH

Take the following example. I have a resource public class HelloWorldResource extends ServerResource { @Get public String represent(String arg) { return "hello, world (from the cloud!)" + arg; } } That is mapped by router.attach("/hi/{message}", HelloWorldResource.class); Is it possible to configure the routing such that accessing /hi/somestuffhere will make restlet fill in the arg parameter in the represent method?

  • How to detect that azure application is running development fabric?

    - by Hasan Khan
How can I reliability detect whether my Azure application is running in development fabric and not in 'the cloud' ? RoleEnvironment.IsAvailable is true for both. I want something that is true in only one case. I'm asking this because I want users of my library to be able to use my library for free in dev fabric. Hence manually putting seperate identifier or flag in config file and keeping two configs for dev and deploy is not feasible.
