• Cannot attach to a service in VS 2008

- by rhj4
I have created a service in VS 2008 called EmailReader. I have compiled, installed and started the service. Its timer loop is writing records to a log file, so I can see that it is running. I am trying to attach to it in VS 2008, but the process name is greyed out in the list of available processes, and the name is "EmailReader.vshost.exe" instead of "EmailReader.exe". There is probably a simple answer, but I don't know it. Do you?

• How to detect that a process is started using C# code[windows service]

- by infant programmer
I am trying to design a windows-service which monitors a process namely "Gtalk", if the process is started then, the browser Internet-explorer (process iexplore) should be closed. This should happen only when the process "Gtalk" is started, [not when running] The code I have written and implemented, doesn't allow to open IExplore when Gtalk is running. That is certainly what not I am trying for. The process Gtalk should close browser only at its start-up, After the process is started, it should allow to open IExplore. Is it possible with Windows service or is it must be the part of Gtalk process itself? This is my code: while (true) { if (Process.GetProcessesByName("Gtalk").Length > 0) { foreach (Process prc in Process.GetProcessesByName("IExplore")) { prc.Kill(); } } }

• Getting WCF Services in a Silverlight solution to play nice on deployment

- by brendonpage
I have come across 2 issues with deploying WCF services in a Silverlight solution, admittedly the one is more of a hiccup, and only occurs if you take the easy way out and reference your services through visual studio. The First Issue This occurs when you deploy your WFC services to an IIS server. When browse to the services using your web browser, you are greeted with “This collection already contains an address with scheme http. There can be at most one address per scheme in this collection.”. When you make a call to this service from your Silverlight application, you get the extremely helpful “NotFound” error, this error message can be found in the error property of the event arguments on the complete event handler for that call. As it did with me this will leave most people scratching their head, because the very same services work just fine on the ASP.NET Development Web Server and on my local IIS server. Now I’m no server/hosting/IIS expert so I did a bit of searching when I first encountered this issue. I found out this happens because IIS supports multiple address bindings per protocol (http/https/ftp … etc) per web site, but WCF only supports binding to one address per protocol. This causes a problem when the WCF service is hosted on a site with multiple address bindings, because IIS provides all of the bindings to the host factory when running the service. While this problem occurs mainly on shared hosting solutions, it is not limited to shared hosting, it just seems like all shared hosting providers setup sites on their servers with multiple address bindings. For interests sake I added functionality to the example project attached to this post to dump the addresses given to the WCF service by IIS into a log file. This was the output on the shared hosting solution I use: http://mydomain.co.za/Services/TestService.svc http://www.mydomain.co.za/Services/TestService.svc http://mydomain-co-za.win13.wadns.net/Services/TestService.svc http://win13/Services/TestService.svc As you can see all these addresses are for the http protocol, which is where it all goes wrong for WCF. Fixes for the First Issue There are a few ways to get around this. The first being the easiest, target .NET 4! Yes that's right in .NET 4 WCF services support multiple addresses per protocol. This functionality is enabled by an option, which is on by default if you create a new project, you will need to turn on if you are upgrading to .NET 4. To do this set the multipleSiteBindingsEnabled property of the serviceHostingEnviroment tag in the web.config file to true, as shown below: <system.serviceModel> <serviceHostingEnvironment multipleSiteBindingsEnabled="true" /> </system.serviceModel> Beware this ONLY works in .NET 4, so if you don’t have a server with .NET 4 installed on that you can deploy to, you will need to employ one of the other work a rounds. The second option will work for .NET 3.5 & 4. For this option all you need to do is modify the web.config file and add baseAddressPrefixFilters to the serviceHostingEnviroment tag as shown below: <system.serviceModel> <serviceHostingEnvironment> <baseAddressPrefixFilters> <add prefix="http://www.mydomain.co.za"/> </baseAddressPrefixFilters> </serviceHostingEnvironment> </system.serviceModel> These will be used to filter the list of base addresses that IIS provides to the host factory. When specifying these prefix filters be sure to specify filters which will only allow 1 result through, otherwise the entire exercise will be pointless. There is however a problem with this work a round, you are only allowed to specify 1 prefix filter per protocol. Which means you can’t add filters for all your environments, this will therefore add to the list of things to do before deploying or switching dev machines. The third option is the one I currently employ, it will work for .NET 3, 3.5 & 4, although it is not needed for .NET 4. For this option you create a custom host factory which inherits from the ServiceHostFactory class. In the implementation of the ServiceHostFactory you employ logic to figure out which of the base addresses, that are give by IIS, to use when creating the service host. The logic you use to do this is completely up to you, I have seen quite a few solutions that simply statically reference an index from the list of base addresses, this works for most situations but falls short in others. For instance, if the order of the base addresses where to change, it might end up returning an address that only resolves on the servers local network, like the last one in the example I gave at the beginning. Another instance, if a request comes in on a different protocol, like https, you will be creating the service host using an address which is on the incorrect protocol, like http. To reliably find the correct address to use, I use the address that the service was requested on. To accomplish this I use the HttpContext, which requires the service to operate with AspNetCompatibilityRequirements set on. If for some reason running you services with AspNetCompatibilityRequirements on isn’t an option, you can still use this method, you will just have to come up with your own logic for selecting the correct address. First you will need to enable AspNetCompatibilityRequirements for your hosting environment, to do this you will need to set it to true in the web.config file as shown below: <system.serviceModel> <serviceHostingEnvironment AspNetCompatibilityRequirements="true" /> </system.serviceModel> You will then need to mark any services that are going to use the custom host factory, to allow AspNetCompatibilityRequirements, as shown below: [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)] public class TestService { } Now for the custom host factory, this is where the logic lives that selects the correct address to create service host with. The one i use is shown below: public class CustomHostFactory : ServiceHostFactory { protected override ServiceHost CreateServiceHost(Type serviceType, Uri[] baseAddresses) { // // Compose a prefix filter based on the requested uri // string prefixFilter = HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.Scheme + "://" + HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.DnsSafeHost; if (!HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.IsDefaultPort) { prefixFilter += ":" + HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.Port.ToString() + "/"; } // // Find a base address that matches the prefix filter // foreach (Uri baseAddress in baseAddresses) { if (baseAddress.OriginalString.StartsWith(prefixFilter)) { return new ServiceHost(serviceType, baseAddress); } } // // Throw exception if no matching base address was found // throw new Exception("Custom Host Factory: No base address matching '" + prefixFilter + "' was found."); } } The most important line in the custom host factory is the one that returns a new service host. This has to return a service host that specifies only one base address per protocol. Since I filter by the address the request came on in, I only need to create the service host with one address, since this address will always be of the correct protocol. Now you have a custom host factory you have to tell your services to use it. To do this you view the markup of the service by right clicking on it in the solution explorer and choosing “View Markup”. Then you add/set the value of the Factory property to the full namespace path of you custom host factory, as shown below. And that is it done, the service will now use the specified custom host factory. The Second Issue As I mentioned earlier this issue is more of a hiccup, but I thought worthy of a mention so I included it. This issue only occurs when you add a service reference to a Silverlight project. Visual Studio will generate a lot of code for you, part of that generated code is the ServiceReferences.ClientConfig file. This file stores the endpoint configuration that is used when accessing your services using the generated proxy classes. Here is what that file looks like: <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <customBinding> <binding name="CustomBinding_TestService"> <binaryMessageEncoding /> <httpTransport maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647" maxBufferSize="2147483647" /> </binding> <binding name="CustomBinding_BrokenService"> <binaryMessageEncoding /> <httpTransport maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647" maxBufferSize="2147483647" /> </binding> </customBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="http://localhost:49347/services/TestService.svc" binding="customBinding" bindingConfiguration="CustomBinding_TestService" contract="TestService.TestService" name="CustomBinding_TestService" /> <endpoint address="http://localhost:49347/Services/BrokenService.svc" binding="customBinding" bindingConfiguration="CustomBinding_BrokenService" contract="BrokenService.BrokenService" name="CustomBinding_BrokenService" /> </client> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> As you will notice the addresses for the end points are set to the addresses of the services you added the service references from, so unless you are adding the service references from your live services, you will have to change these addresses before you deploy. This is little more than an annoyance really, but it adds to the list of things to do before you can deploy, and if left unchecked that list can get out of control. Fix for the Second Issue The way you would usually access a service added this way is to create an instance of the proxy class like so: BrokenServiceClient proxy = new BrokenServiceClient(); Closer inspection of these generated proxy classes reveals that there are a few overloaded constructors, one of which allows you to specify the end point address to use when creating the proxy. From here all you have to do is come up with some logic that will provide you with the relative path to your services. Since my WCF services are usually hosted in the same project as my Silverlight app I use the class shown below: public class ServiceProxyHelper { ///
/// Create a broken service proxy ///
/// <returns>A broken service proxy</returns> public static BrokenServiceClient CreateBrokenServiceProxy() { Uri address = new Uri(Application.Current.Host.Source, "../Services/BrokenService.svc"); return new BrokenServiceClient("CustomBinding_BrokenService", address.AbsoluteUri); } } Then I will create an instance of the proxy class using my service helper class like so: BrokenServiceClient proxy = ServiceProxyHelper.CreateBrokenServiceProxy(); The way this works is “Application.Current.Host.Source” will return the URL to the ClientBin folder the Silverlight app is hosted in, the “../Services/BrokenService.svc” is then used as the relative path to the service from the ClientBin folder, combined by the Uri object this gives me the URL to my service. The “CustomBinding_BrokenService” is a reference to the end point configuration in the ServiceReferences.ClientConfig file. Yes this means you still need the ServiceReferences.ClientConfig file. All this is doing is using a different end point address than the one specified in the ServiceReferences.ClientConfig file, all the other settings form the ServiceReferences.ClientConfig file are still used when creating the proxy. I have uploaded an example project which covers the custom host factory solution from the first issue and everything from the second issue. I included the code to write a list of base addresses to a log file in my implementation of the custom host factory, this is not need for the custom host factory to function and can safely be removed. • Is there value in unit testing auto implemented properties

- by ahsteele
It seems exceptionally heavy handed but going by the rule anything publicly available should be tested should auto-implemented properties be tested? Customer Class public class Customer { public string EmailAddr { get; set; } } Tested by [TestClass] public class CustomerTests : TestClassBase { [TestMethod] public void CanSetCustomerEmailAddress() { //Arrange Customer customer = new Customer(); //Act customer.EmailAddr = "[email protected]"; //Assert Assert.AreEqual("[email protected]", customer.EmailAddr); } }

• Dynamic swappable Data Access Layer

- by Andy
I'm writing a data driven WPF client. The client will typically pull data from a WCF service, which queries a SQL db, but I'd like the option to pull the data directly from SQL or other arbitrary data sources. I've come up with this design and would like to hear your opinion on whether it is the best design. First, we have some data object we'd like to extract from SQL. // The Data Object with a single property public class Customer { private string m_Name = string.Empty; public string Name { get { return m_Name; } set { m_Name = value;} } } Then I plan on using an interface which all data access layers should implement. Suppose one could also use an abstract class. Thoughts? // The interface with a single method interface ICustomerFacade { List<Customer> GetAll(); } One can create a SQL implementation. // Sql Implementation public class SqlCustomrFacade : ICustomerFacade { public List<Customer> GetAll() { // Query SQL db and return something useful // ... return new List<Customer>(); } } We can also create a WCF implementation. The problem with WCF is is that it doesn't use the same data object. It creates its own local version, so we would have to copy the details over somehow. I suppose one could use reflection to copy the values of similar fields across. Thoughts? // Wcf Implementation public class WcfCustomrFacade : ICustomerFacade { public List<Customer> GetAll() { // Get date from the Wcf Service (not defined here) List<WcfService.Customer> wcfCustomers = wcfService.GetAllCustomers(); // The list we're going to return List<Customer> customers = new List<Customer>(); // This is horrible foreach(WcfService.Customer wcfCustomer in wcfCustomers) { Customer customer = new Customer(); customer.Name = wcfCustomer.Name; customers.Add(customer); } return customers; } } I also plan on using a factory to decide which facade to use. // Factory pattern public class FacadeFactory() { public static ICustomerFacade CreateCustomerFacade() { // Determine the facade to use if (ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["DAL"] == "Sql") return new SqlCustomrFacade(); else return new WcfCustomrFacade(); } } This is how the DAL would typically be used. // Test application public class MyApp { public static void Main() { ICustomerFacade cf = FacadeFactory.CreateCustomerFacade(); cf.GetAll(); } } I appreciate your thoughts and time.

- by Evgeny
I have configured wcf service and method which return some structure. The problem that all symbols in response '\' begins with '/' Example: [ { "rel":"http:\/\/localhost:3354\/customer\/1\/order", "uri":"http:\/\/localhost:3354\/customer\/1\/order\/3" }, { "rel":"http:\/\/localhost:3354\/customer\/1\/order", "uri":"http:\/\/localhost:3354\/customer\/1\/order\/5" }, { "rel":"http:\/\/localhost:3354\/customer\/1\/order", "uri":"http:\/\/localhost:3354\/customer\/1\/order\/8" } ] And i return only http:\localhost:3354\customer\1\order ! Why that symbols added and how can i remove them?

• Update single field

- by 47
I have a Customer class which has a representative field....this field is initially blank but when the user opens up the details page of the chosen customer, they'll be given the open of representing this customer by clicking on a link. The template layout I was thinking of is this: Representative: {% if customer.representative %} {{ customer.representative }} {% else %} Represent this customer. {% endif %} All that remains is the view to effect this...this is where I'm stuck.

• Updating a sql server table with data from another table

- by David G
I have two basic SQL Server tables: Customer (ID [pk], AddressLine1, AddressLine2, AddressCity, AddressDistrict, AddressPostalCode) CustomerAddress(ID [pk], CustomerID [fk], Line1, Line2, City, District, PostalCode) CustomerAddress contains multiple addresses for the Customer record. For each Customer record I want to merge the most recent CustomerAddress record where most recent is determined by the highest CustomerAddress ID value. I've currently got the following: UPDATE Customer SET AddressLine1 = CustomerAddress.Line1, AddressPostalCode = CustomerAddress.PostalCode FROM Customer, CustomerAddress WHERE Customer.ID = CustomerAddress.CustomerID which works but how can I ensure that the most recent (highest ID) CustomerAddress record is selected to update the Customer table?

• Nagios notifications definitions

- by Colin
I am trying to monitor a web server in such a way that I want to search for a particular string on a page via http. The command is defined in command.cfg as follows # 'check_http-mysite command definition' define command { command_name check_http-mysite command_line /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_http -H mysite.example.com -s "Some text" } # 'notify-host-by-sms' command definition define command { command_name notify-host-by-sms command_line /usr/bin/send_sms $CONTACTPAGER$ "Nagios - $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$ :Host$HOSTALIAS$ is $HOSTSTATE$ ($OUTPUT$)" } # 'notify-service-by-sms' command definition define command { command_name notify-service-by-sms command_line /usr/bin/send_sms $CONTACTPAGER$ "Nagios - $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$: $HOSTALIAS$/$SERVICEDESC$ is $SERVICESTATE$ ($OUTPUT$)" } Now if nagios doesn't find "Some text" on the home page mysite.example.com, nagios should notify a contact via sms through the Clickatell http API which I have a script for that that I have tested and found that it works fine. Whenever I change the command definition to search for a string which is not on the page, and restart nagios, I can see on the web interface that the string was not found. What I don't understand is why isn't the notification sent though I have defined the host, hostgroup, contact, contactgroup and service and so forth. • Calling XAI Inbound Services from Oracle BI Publisher

- by ACShorten
Note: This technique requires Oracle BI Publisher 1.1.3.4.1 which supports Service Complex Types. Web Services require credentials for authentication. Note: The deafults for the product installation are used in this article. If your site uses alternative values then substitute those alternatives where applicable. Note: Examples shown in this article are examples for illustrative purposes only. When building a report in Oracle BI Publisher it may be necessary to call an XAI Inbound Service to get information via the object rather than directly calling the database tables for various reasons: The CLOB fields used in the Object are accessible for a report. Note: CLOB fields cannot be used as criteria in the current release. Objects can take advantage of algorithms to format or calculate additional data that is not stored in the database directly. For example, Information format strings can automatically generated by the object which gives consistent information between a report and the online screens. To use this facility the following process must be performed: Ensure that the product group, cisusers by default, is enabled for the SPLServiceBean in the console. This allows BI Publisher access to call Web Services directly. To ensure this follow the instructions below: Logon to the Oracle WebLogic server console using an appropriate administrator account. By default the user system or weblogic is provided for this purpose. Navigate to the Security Realms section and select your configured realm. This is set to myrealm by default. In the Roles and Policies section, expand the SPLService section of the Deployments option to reveal the SPLServiceBean roles. If there is no role associated with the SPLServiceBean, create a new EJB role and specify the cisusers role, by default. For example: Add a Role Condition to the role just created, with a Predicate List of Group and specify cisusers as the Group Argument Name. For example: Save all your changes. The XAI Inbound Services to be used by BI Publisher must be defined prior to using the interface. Refer to the XAI Best Practices (Doc Id: 942074.1) from My Oracle Support or via the online help for more information about this process. Inside BI Publisher create your report, according to the BI Publisher documentation. When specifying the dataset, under the Data Model Report option, specify the following to use an XAI Inbound Service as a data source: Parameter Comment Type Web Service Complex Type true Username Any valid user name within the product. This user MUST have security access to the objects referenced in the XAI Inbound Service Password Authentication password for Username Timeout Timeout, in seconds, set for the Web Service call. For example 60 seconds. WSDL URL Use the WSDL URL on the XAI Inbound Service definition as your WSDL URL. It will be in the following format by default:http://<host>:<port>/<server>/XAIApp/xaiserver/<service>?WSDLwhere: <host> - Host Name of Web Application Server <port> - Port allocated to Web Application Server for product access <server> - Server context for server <service> - XAI Inbound Service Name Note: For customers using secure transmission should substitute https instead of http and use the HTTPS port allocated to the product at installation time. Web Service Select the name of the service that shows in the drop-down menu. If no service name shows up, it means that Publisher could not establish a connection with the server or WSDL name provided in the above URL in order to get the service name. See BI Publisher server log for more information. Method Select the name of the Method that shows in the drop-down menu. A method name should show in the Method drop-down menu once the Web Service name is selected. For example: Additionally, filters can be used from the Web Service that can be generated, required or optional, from the WSDL in the Parameter List. For example:

• "Has Oracle written the script for CRM success?" - Anthony Lye on Customer Experience at BAFTA

- by Richard Lefebvre
Anthony Lye showcased Oracle Fusion CRM at a BAFTA gathering, and MyCustomer.com covered the story under the title of "Has Oracle written the script for CRM success?' According to MyCustomer.com, "Oracle's SVP of CRM Anthony Lye set the scene for the event, suggesting products are becoming commoditized, so that the only way to differentiate is through the relationship with the customer. But he warned that "customers are more and more in control of that relationship, so you have to provide great experiences for them." "The quickest win within your organization to create a single view is to connect your marketing organization with your selling organization, align goals, processes, people and technology," Anthony explained. "And this is a transition that is already happening - "VPs of marketing have started turning up in the same meetings as VPs of sales, we have started to see that they want to work together" - but this convergence needs nurturing." "In Fusion there are capabilities to align the organisation - we enable marketing on the same platform to build campaigns connected to sales stages. It can affect leads and opportunities at the top end of the funnel. And the selling organisation can take advantage of marketing content - the materials that are exclusively within marketing can now be used by sales. Your sales teams have been campaigning forever, but it's usually by email, it isn't aligned with the corporate message and it's being sent to people it shouldn't. By aligning them we can increase output and the quality of that output." Anthony concluded: "Operating in a disconnected fashion having two distinct systems will cost you time and money. So we feel there's a material advantage in a solution like this." Enjoy the full story at http://www.mycustomer.com/topic/marketing/has-oracle-written-script-crm-success/139958

• Null Values And The T-SQL IN Operator

- by Jesse
I came across some unexpected behavior while troubleshooting a failing test the other day that took me long enough to figure out that I thought it was worth sharing here. I finally traced the failing test back to a SELECT statement in a stored procedure that was using the IN t-sql operator to exclude a certain set of values. Here’s a very simple example table to illustrate the issue: Customers CustomerId INT, NOT NULL, Primary Key CustomerName nvarchar(100) NOT NULL SalesRegionId INT NULL The ‘SalesRegionId’ column contains a number representing the sales region that the customer belongs to. This column is nullable because new customers get created all the time but assigning them to sales regions is a process that is handled by a regional manager on a periodic basis. For the purposes of this example, the Customers table currently has the following rows: CustomerId CustomerName SalesRegionId 1 Customer A 1 2 Customer B NULL 3 Customer C 4 4 Customer D 2 5 Customer E 3 How could we write a query against this table for all customers that are NOT in sales regions 2 or 4? You might try something like this: 1: SELECT 2: CustomerId, 3: CustomerName, 4: SalesRegionId 5: FROM Customers 6: WHERE SalesRegionId NOT IN (2,4) Will this work? In short, no; at least not in the way that you might expect. Here’s what this query will return given the example data we’re working with: CustomerId CustomerName SalesRegionId 1 Customer A 1 5 Customer E 5 I was expecting that this query would also return ‘Customer B’, since that customer has a NULL SalesRegionId. In my mind, having a customer with no sales region should be included in a set of customers that are not in sales regions 2 or 4.When I first started troubleshooting my issue I made note of the fact that this query should probably be re-written without the NOT IN clause, but I didn’t suspect that the NOT IN clause was actually the source of the issue. This particular query was only one minor piece in a much larger process that was being exercised via an automated integration test and I simply made a poor assumption that the NOT IN would work the way that I thought it should. So why doesn’t this work the way that I thought it should? From the MSDN documentation on the t-sql IN operator: If the value of test_expression is equal to any value returned by subquery or is equal to any expression from the comma-separated list, the result value is TRUE; otherwise, the result value is FALSE. Using NOT IN negates the subquery value or expression. The key phrase out of that quote is, “… is equal to any expression from the comma-separated list…”. The NULL SalesRegionId isn’t included in the NOT IN because of how NULL values are handled in equality comparisons. From the MSDN documentation on ANSI_NULLS: The SQL-92 standard requires that an equals (=) or not equal to (<>) comparison against a null value evaluates to FALSE. When SET ANSI_NULLS is ON, a SELECT statement using WHERE column_name = NULL returns zero rows even if there are null values in column_name. A SELECT statement using WHERE column_name <> NULL returns zero rows even if there are nonnull values in column_name. In fact, the MSDN documentation on the IN operator includes the following blurb about using NULL values in IN sub-queries or expressions that are used with the IN operator: Any null values returned by subquery or expression that are compared to test_expression using IN or NOT IN return UNKNOWN. Using null values in together with IN or NOT IN can produce unexpected results. If I were to include a ‘SET ANSI_NULLS OFF’ command right above my SELECT statement I would get ‘Customer B’ returned in the results, but that’s definitely not the right way to deal with this. We could re-write the query to explicitly include the NULL value in the WHERE clause: 1: SELECT 2: CustomerId, 3: CustomerName, 4: SalesRegionId 5: FROM Customers 6: WHERE (SalesRegionId NOT IN (2,4) OR SalesRegionId IS NULL) This query works and properly includes ‘Customer B’ in the results, but I ultimately opted to re-write the query using a LEFT OUTER JOIN against a table variable containing all of the values that I wanted to exclude because, in my case, there could potentially be several hundred values to be excluded. If we were to apply the same refactoring to our simple sales region example we’d end up with: 1: DECLARE @regionsToIgnore TABLE (IgnoredRegionId INT) 2: INSERT @regionsToIgnore values (2),(4) 3: 4: SELECT 5: c.CustomerId, 6: c.CustomerName, 7: c.SalesRegionId 8: FROM Customers c 9: LEFT OUTER JOIN @regionsToIgnore r ON r.IgnoredRegionId = c.SalesRegionId 10: WHERE r.IgnoredRegionId IS NULL By performing a LEFT OUTER JOIN from Customers to the @regionsToIgnore table variable we can simply exclude any rows where the IgnoredRegionId is null, as those represent customers that DO NOT appear in the ignored regions list. This approach will likely perform better if the number of sales regions to ignore gets very large and it also will correctly include any customers that do not yet have a sales region.

• C# SOCKS proxy service for HTTP requests

- by Ed
I'm trying to build a service that will forward HTTP requests from agents like a browser to the Tor service. Problem is, the Tor service only accepts SOCKS4a connections. So my solution is to listen for HTTP requests, get the URL they're requesting, and make a request via Tor with the help of the Starksoft.Net.Proxy library. Then return the response. The library kind of works, but I'm not happy. It returns HTTP headers with the response and it can't handle images. So the responses are messed up. How could I improve my code? I'm very new to network programming. Sorry for the long example. public AnonymiserService(ILogger logger) { try { _logger = logger; _logger.Log("Listening on port {0}...", Properties.Settings.Default.ListeningPort); StartListener(new string[] { string.Format("http://*:{0}/", Properties.Settings.Default.ListeningPort) }); } catch (Exception ex) { _logger.LogError("Exception!", ex); } } private void StartListener(string[] prefixes) { if (!HttpListener.IsSupported) { _logger.LogError("HttpListener isn't supported on this machine!"); return; } HttpListener listener = new HttpListener(); foreach (string s in prefixes) listener.Prefixes.Add(s); while (true) { listener.Start(); IAsyncResult result = listener.BeginGetContext(new AsyncCallback(ListenerCallback), listener); result.AsyncWaitHandle.WaitOne(); } } private void ListenerCallback(IAsyncResult result) { try { // Get HTTP request HttpListener listener = (HttpListener)result.AsyncState; HttpListenerContext context = listener.EndGetContext(result); _logger.Log("Retrieving [{0}]", context.Request.RawUrl); // Create connection // Use Tor as proxy IProxyClient proxyClient = new Socks4aProxyClient("localhost", 9050); TcpClient tcpClient = proxyClient.CreateConnection(context.Request.UserHostName, 80); // Create message // Need to set Connection: close to close the connection as soon as it's done byte[] data = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(String.Format("GET {0} HTTP/1.1\r\nHost: {1}\r\nConnection: close\r\n\r\n", context.Request.Url.PathAndQuery, context.Request.UserHostName)); // Send message NetworkStream ns = tcpClient.GetStream(); ns.Write(data, 0, data.Length); // Pass on HTTP response HttpListenerResponse responseOut = context.Response; if (ns.CanRead) { byte[] buffer = new byte[32768]; int read = 0; string responseString = string.Empty; // Read response while ((read = ns.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length)) > 0) { responseString += Encoding.UTF8.GetString(buffer, 0, read); } // Remove headers if (responseString.IndexOf("HTTP/1.1 200 OK") > -1) responseString = responseString.Substring(responseString.IndexOf("\r\n\r\n")); // Forward response byte[] byteArray = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(responseString); responseOut.OutputStream.Write(byteArray, 0, byteArray.Length); } // Close streams responseOut.OutputStream.Close(); ns.Close(); // Close connection tcpClient.Close(); _logger.Log("Retrieved [{0}]", context.Request.RawUrl); } catch (Exception ex) { _logger.LogError("Exception in ListenerCallback!", ex); } }

• "(401)Authorization Required" when making a web service call using Axis

- by Arun P Johny
Hi, I'm using apache axis to connect to my sugar crm instance. When I'm trying to connect to the instance it is throwing the following exception Exception in thread "main" AxisFault faultCode: {http://xml.apache.org/axis/}HTTP faultSubcode: faultString: (401)Authorization Required faultActor: faultNode: faultDetail: {}:return code: 401 <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <html><head> <title>401 Authorization Required</title> </head><body> <h1>Authorization Required</h1> <p>This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. The same code is working fine in my testing environment. Sugarsoap service = new SugarsoapLocator(); SugarsoapPortType port = service.getsugarsoapPort(new java.net.URL( SUGAR_CRM_LOCATION + "/soap.php")); System.out.println(port.get_server_info().getVersion()); User_auth userAuth = new User_auth(); userAuth.setUser_name("user_name"); MessageDigest md = MessageDigest.getInstance("MD5"); String password = getHexString(md.digest("password".getBytes())); userAuth.setPassword(password); // userAuth.setVersion("0.1"); Entry_value login = port.login(userAuth, "myAppName", null); String sessionID = login.getId(); Above code is used to connect to the Sugar CRM installation. here line "System.out.println(port.get_server_info().getVersion());" is throwing the exception. One difference I noticed between the test and production environment is when I used the soap url in the browser the production site pops up a 'Authentication Required' popup. When I gives my proxy username and password in this popup, it shows the soap request details. The same is applicable for the login url also. First it will ask for the 'Authentication' then it will take to the sugar crm login page? Is it a server security setting? If it is then how to set this user name and password using java in a web service call. The authentication required popup is same as the one which comes when we try to access the tomcat manager through a browser. Thanks

• WCF Service, Java JApplet client, transport error 405

- by Juan Zamudio
Hi all, I'm having a problem with a WCF Service and Java Client, I will try to give as much information as i can, thanks for your time. The Endpoint of the server is BasicHttpBinding, I tried hosting the server as a Windows Service and in IIS but nothing changed. The weird thing is that the Client works great if I use a simple class, in the moment I switch the class to an JApplet I get the problem mentioned. I'm using Eclipse as an IDE, I tried Axis and Metro to generate the stub with the same bad results. Here is an example of the Java class where everything is working public class TestSoaMetro { public String TestMethod(){ String result=null; IDigitalSignatureService aa = new DigitalSignatureService().getBasicHttpBindingEndpoint(); try { result= aa.getData("1", "id002962"); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataArgumentExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataInvalidOperationExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } return result; } } Here is the example of the JApplet where I get the error: public class TestSoaMetroApplet extends JApplet { public void init() { Container content = getContentPane(); content.setBackground(Color.white); content.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); String result= this.TestMethod(); JLabel label = new JLabel(result); content.add(label); } public String TestMethod(){ String result=null; IDigitalSignatureService aa = null; try { aa = new DigitalSignatureService().getBasicHttpBindingEndpoint(); result= aa.getData("1", "id002962"); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataArgumentExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataInvalidOperationExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } return result; } } In the moment the Applet loads I get the error, is the exact same call so I don't understand why I get the exception using the Applet. I Also tried to call this from a Silverlight client and I was getting a security exception, this is where I found out about clientaccesspolicy.xml and crossdomain.xml, I added clientaccesspolicy.xml to the service and the Silverlight Client works great, so I decided to try crossdomain.xml and nothing, the Applet still does not work. I will put the stack trace at the end, thanks all for your time. • WCF service using duplex channel in different domains

- by ds1
I have a WCF service and a Windows client. They communicate via a Duplex WCF channel which when I run from within a single network domain runs fine, but when I put the server on a separate network domain I get the following message in the WCF server trace... The message with to 'net.tcp://abc:8731/ActiveAreaService/mex/mex' cannot be processed at the receiver, due to an AddressFilter mismatch at the EndpointDispatcher. Check that the sender and receiver's EndpointAddresses agree. So, it looks like the communication just work in one direction (from client to server) if the components are in two separate domains. The Network domains are fully trusted, so I'm a little confused as to what else could cause this? Server app.config  <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="JobController.ActiveAreaBehavior"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="false" /> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" /> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <services> <service behaviorConfiguration="JobController.ActiveAreaBehavior" name="JobController.ActiveAreaServer"> <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="" contract="IMetadataExchange" /> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="net.tcp://SERVER:8731/ActiveAreaService/" /> </baseAddresses> </host> </service> </services> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> but I also add an end point programmatically in Visual C++ host = gcnew ServiceHost(ActiveAreaServer::typeid); NetTcpBinding^ binding = gcnew NetTcpBinding(); binding->MaxBufferSize = Int32::MaxValue; binding->MaxReceivedMessageSize = Int32::MaxValue; binding->ReceiveTimeout = TimeSpan::MaxValue; binding->Security->Mode = SecurityMode::Transport; binding->Security->Transport->ClientCredentialType = TcpClientCredentialType::Windows; ServiceEndpoint^ ep = host->AddServiceEndpoint(IActiveAreaServer::typeid, binding, String::Empty); // Use the base address Client app.config  <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="NetTcpBinding_IActiveAreaServer" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" transactionFlow="false" transferMode="Buffered" transactionProtocol="OleTransactions" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" listenBacklog="10" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxBufferSize="65536" maxConnections="10" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> <reliableSession ordered="true" inactivityTimeout="00:10:00" enabled="false" /> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" protectionLevel="EncryptAndSign" /> <message clientCredentialType="Windows" /> </security> </binding> </netTcpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="net.tcp://SERVER:8731/ActiveAreaService/" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="NetTcpBinding_IActiveAreaServer" contract="ActiveArea.IActiveAreaServer" name="NetTcpBinding_IActiveAreaServer"> <identity> <userPrincipalName value="[email protected]" /> </identity> </endpoint> </client> </system.serviceModel> </configuration> Any help is appreciated!   • Trouble with setting entry point for GWT service

- by Xorty
Hello. I've followed serveral tutorials and read official docs at code.google.com, but still didn't manage to resolve this thing. I am creating simple service that'll check if user can be logged. CLIENT SIDE: public interface LoginService extends RemoteService { /** * Checks, if user has valid login. * @param user User's login. * @return True if such a login is in the database. */ boolean isValidUser(User user); } And here is Async interface: public interface LoginServiceAsync { /** * Checks, if user has valid login. * @param user User's login. * @param callback the callback to return True if such a login is in the database. */ void isValidUser(User user, AsyncCallback<Boolean> callback); } SERVER SIDE: public class LoginServiceImpl extends RemoteServiceServlet implements LoginService { /** * serial version UID */ private static final long serialVersionUID = 1044980345057997696L; /**{@inheritDoc} */ @Override public boolean isValidUser(User user) { boolean success = true; //TODO change } } Now I have entry point class MailClient.java. I append here widget like: CustomWidgets.getLoginWidget(this); // access rootPanel and append widget Now I need to make actual call to my service, and here is problem: LoginServiceAsync loginService = (LoginServiceAsync) GWT.create(LoginService.class); User user = new User(boxName.getText(), boxPassword.getText()); AsyncCallback<Boolean> callback = new AsyncCallback<Boolean>() { @Override public void onFailure(Throwable caught) { Window.alert(caught.getMessage()); //TODO change } @Override public void onSuccess(Boolean result) { Window.alert("success"); //TODO change } }; ((ServiceDefTarget) loginService).setServiceEntryPoint(GWT.getModuleBaseURL()+"login"); // dunno what should be here So to recap, I don't know how to set service's entry point. Any ideas? edit : Maybe some usefull info: I am trying to create a service that will run on the background and scan sensor data, when a certain signal is given i would like to maken an automated call to a number. edit : full adb error code: 03-31 09:04:10.214: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to instantiate service dfz.epilepsiedetector.services.DetectionService: java.lang.NullPointerException 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleCreateService(ActivityThread.java:2668) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$3100(ActivityThread.java:116) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:1846) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4203) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:791) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:549) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.content.ContextWrapper.getPackageName(ContextWrapper.java:120) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.content.ComponentName.<init>(ComponentName.java:75) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.content.Intent.<init>(Intent.java:2302) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at dfz.epilepsiedetector.services.DetectionService.<init>(DetectionService.java:35) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at java.lang.Class.newInstanceImpl(Native Method) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at java.lang.Class.newInstance(Class.java:1472) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleCreateService(ActivityThread.java:2665) edit Trimmed class code: `public class DetectionService extends IntentService implements SensorEventListener { private SensorManager mSensorManager; private Sensor mAccelerometer; private boolean hasSeizure = false; private final int POLLS_PER_SECOND = 10; public DetectionService() { super("EpilepsionDetectionService"); //mSensorManager = (SensorManager)getSystemService(SENSOR_SERVICE); // mAccelerometer = mSensorManager.getDefaultSensor(Sensor.TYPE_ACCELEROMETER); /*Intent callIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_CALL); callIntent.setData(Uri.parse("tel:" + "+31648363944")); callIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);*/ Intent callIntent = new Intent(DetectionService.this, InformationActivity.class); callIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); getApplication().startActivity(callIntent); //((Activity) getContext()).startActivity(callIntent); }`

• Using Web Services from an XNA 4.0 WP7 Game

- by Michael Cummings
Now that the Windows Phone 7 development tools have been out for a while, let’s talk about how you can use them. Windows Phone 7 ( WP7 ) has two application types that you can create, either Silverlight or XNA, and you can’t really mix the two together. The development environment for WP7 is a special edition of Visual Studio 2010 called Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone. This edition will be installed with the WP7 tools, even if you have a full edition of VS2010 already installed. While you can use your full edition of VS2010 to do WP7 development, this astute developer has noticed that there are a few things that you can only do in the Express for Windows Phone edition. So lets start by discussing WP7 networking. On the WP7 platform the only networking available is through Web Services using WCF or if you’re really masochistic, you’ll use the WebClient to do http. In Silverlight, it’s fairly easy to wire up a WCF proxy to call a web service and get some data. In the XNA projects, not so much. Create WCF Service First, we’ll create our service that will return some information that we need in our game. Open Visual Studio 2010, and create a new WCF Web Service project. We’ll use the default implementation as we only need to see how to use a service, we are not interested in creating a really cool service at this point. However you may want to follow the instructions in the comments of Service1.svc.cs to change the name to something better, I used DataService and IDataService for the interface. You should now be able to run the project and the WCF Test Client will load and properly enumerate your service. At this point we have a functional service that can be consumed by our XNA game. Consume the WCF Service Open Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone and create a new XNA Game Studio 4.0 Windows Phone Game project. Now if you try to add a service reference to the project, you’ll notice that the option is not available. However, if you add a Silverlight application to your solution, you’ll notice that you can create a service reference there. So using the Silverlight project, we can create the service reference. Unfortunately you can’t reference the Silverlight project from the XNA Game project, so using Windows Explorer copy the Service References folder from the Silverlight project directory to the XNA Game project directory, then add the folder to your XNA Game project. You’ll need to set the property Build Action to None for all the files, except for Reference.cs, which should be Build. Truely, we only need Reference.cs but I find it easier to copy the whole folder. If you try to compile at this point, you’ll notice that we are missing a couple of references, System.Runtime.Serialization, System.Net and System.ServiceModel. Add these to the XNA Game project and you should build successfully. You’ll also need to copy the ServiceReference.ClientConfig file and add it to your project. The WCF infrastructure looks for this file and will complain if it can’t find it. You’ll need to set the Copy to Output Directory property to Copy if Newer. We now need to add the code to call the service and display the results on the screen. Go ahead and add a SpriteFont resource to the Content project and load it in the Game project. There’s nothing here that’s changed much from 3.1 other than your Content project is now under the Solution node and not the Project node. While you’re at it, add a string field to store the result of the service call, and intialize it to string.Empty. Then in the Draw method, write the string out to the screen, only if it does not equal string.Empty. Now to wrap this up, lets create a new field that’s of the type DataServiceClient. In the Initialize Method, create a new instance of this type using its default contructor, then in the LoadContent we can call the service. Since we can only call the GetData method of our service asynchronously we need to set up a Completed event handler first. Thankfully, Visual Studio helps out a lot there just create, using the tab key whatever VS says to. In the GetDataAsyncCompleted event handler assign the service result ( e.Result) to your string field. If you run your game, you should get something like this : Enjoy!

• WCF service dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph in web.config

- by Dave
I am having issues specifying the dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph in host's web.config. <behaviors> <serviceBehaviors> <behavior name="beSetting"> <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="True"/> <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="True" /> <dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph="2147483646"/> </behavior> </serviceBehaviors> </behaviors> <services> <service name="MyNamespace.MyService" behaviorConfiguration="beSetting" > <endpoint address="http://localhost/myservice/" binding="webHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="webHttpBinding1" contract="MyNamespace.IMyService" bindingNamespace="MyNamespace"> </endpoint> </service> </services> The above has no effect on my data pull. The server times out because of the large volume of data. I can however specify the max limit in code and that works [ServiceBehavior(MaxItemsInObjectGraph=2147483646, IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults = true)] public abstract class MyService : MyService { blah... } Does anyone know why I can't make this work through a web.config setting? I would like to keep in the web.config so it is easier for future updates.

• Troubles with start up defenition of networking service in Ubuntu

- by Rodnower
I use Ubuntu 12.04.1. I put attention that networking script starting in runlevel 0: user@comp:/etc/rc0.d$ chkconfig -l networking networking 0:on 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off When I try to move it working to appropriate run levels I get error: user@comp:/etc/rc0.d$ sudo update-rc.d networking defaults update-rc.d: warning: networking start runlevel arguments (2 3 4 5) do not match LSB Default-Start values (none) update-rc.d: warning: networking stop runlevel arguments (0 1 6) do not match LSB Default-Stop values (0 6) System start/stop links for /etc/init.d/networking already exist. What should I do?
