  • Why can't I pull up the taskbar when Chrome is maximized?

    Whenever I maximize Chrome in Windows 8 the auto-hide on my taskbar breaks; moving the mouse to the bottom of my screen will no longer pull up the taskbar. This is really annoying as pressing the Windows key no longer brings up the taskbar. Note that I am launching this through the desktop, not as a metro app. Internet Explorer does not exhibit this behavior, and restoring down fixes it. What's going on here?

    For some time now when I click Open with...|Choose Default Program from Windows Explorer's context menu I'm getting this error This file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel. I'm getting this error no matter what the extension of the selected file is. Any ideas how to fix this?

  • How to use offline mode in Safari

    So, I'm kind of falling in love with Safari 4 (sorry, Firefox). However, I'm the type who likes my browser cache. Doing a little bit of Googling, it seems Safari does have an offline mode like Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera (where you can view cached web pages offline), but I haven't found any way to activate it and just navigating to web pages with no net connection seems not to do it either. So, does Safari even really have an offline mode, and if so, how does one use it?

    I could do this easily with TextPad, then I got irritated with Textpad once I'd played with Notepad++. Now that I've removed Textpad: I want Notepad++ to take over the right-click Edit option in Explorer, and I want Notepad++ to come up when I type notepad in the command prompt. I know that Notepad++ has a shell extension that allows one to do right-click Edit in Notepad++. But my old right-click Edit link remains, and I keep finding myself clicking on it, only to be rewarded with an error.

    I am looking for a FREE tool to perform analyses on the NTFS file system of my Windows 7 PC. I want to easily see the amount of data distributed throught out the entire file system. The following applications seem very good, but they are not free and probably overkill for my requirements: FolderSizes 5 MailMeter Windows File System Reporting Tool I am aware that some applications (like Folder Size 2.5) can add a column in Windows Explorer to show the size of each folder, but I am looking for something more like a reporting tool.     I know the shortcut CRTL + page up/down but I need the similar function that exists eg in internet explorer: Shift + alt I found a macro that is close but does not entirely solve the problem: If ActiveSheet.Name = "To Do" Then Sheets("Budget").Activate ElseIf ActiveSheet.Name = "Budget" Then Sheets("To Do").Activate I can name the A1 cell with the sheet name and use search (f5) and type the name, but this is to cumbersome.     how can I fix broken IIS on Windows 7 ? Deinstalling it via "Windows Features" doesn't help. Apparently it doesn't uninstall IIS completely so on my subsequent attempts to install it installer hangs and I can see in Process Explorer that it keeps trying to launch svchost.exe -iis for 10 mins and then gives me error message. Reinstalling whole Windows with all apps would take me another 3 days :/ Please help.

  • How can I unlock a folder locked by ‘System’ process on Windows Server 2008?

    I'm on Windows Server 2008 64-bit. LockHunter identifies that a folder is locked by the "System" process. I'm not sure why this happens, but my bigger concern is how to unlock it. I'm looking for a solution that can be run from the command line. LockHunter itself is unable to unlock it. Also, Sysinternals' Process Explorer doesn't find the locked folder's handle. Rebooting is not an option either.

    I need to find all compressed files/folders regardless of file format on a Windows Server 2003 machine. Search options do not provide this capability. Is there a way to list/view all compressed files? Perhaps, this can be done by PowerShell using file/folder attributes and put into a txt file with file location. UPD: Under compressed files/folders - I mean files which appear in blue color in Explorer after changing file/folder attribute.

  • Browsing mapped network drives in Aptana Studio - Windows 7

    I've recently started using Windows 7 (64-bit) at work, but after installing Aptana like usual, and mapping my network folders like I always have, Aptana shows the mapped drives, but with a red X on the drive icon. Using the native windows explorer I can browse the drives fine, and I don't need to login. If it matters the mapped drives are hosted on both Windows and Linux servers. Any ideas on what to do? My googling is drawing blanks.

What happened: after clicking continue after clicking "security tab" link, no security tab What do I need to do to access my EFI partition on Windows 8.1?

    I'm trying to determine which of the three main browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer) are the most secure and safe. Right now, in our system, Firefox 10 and IE 8 are cleared as 'good-to-use', but Chrome isn't. Is Chrome really less secure than Firefox and IE, or are the IT folks are slow at updating (Firefox 12 and IE 9 and 10 preview are out right now)? Completely rewrote question.
