  • How to consume REST in C# including PUT, POST and DELETE?

    Hello, I have a REST webservice that I need to consume in C#. I need support for more than just GET requests though. I need everything that is done by REST including GET, PUT, POST, and DELETE. What is the best way of interfacing with this? I do not see anything for HTTPRequest to be able to do POST or anything other than GET unless you construct your own headers(which I prefer not to) Is there some easy and lightweight way to fully consume REST webservices in C#?

  • Awstats showing 404s for pages and objects I definitely don't have...

    I have a HostGator site using Awstats and I've recently noticed the following 3 bizarre 404s: [address] [times] /images/wikimedia-button.png 1 /apple-touch-icon.png 1 /imgs/custom-space.gif 1 the first and third also carry referrers from within my site, but are 100% definitely absolutely not linked by any of my pages. I'm not too worried about it, seeing as each one has only popped up once. But I am concerned about why Awstats thinks one of my pages is referring what is apparently a wikipedia image, and why Steve Jobs is trying to haxx0r me (/joke) This is my first site to receive moderate daily usage, so I'm curious if these sorts of unique weird-o 404s just come with the territory, or if I should be double-checking something...   • Simple "Long Polling" example code?

    I can find lots of information on how Long Polling works (For example, this, and this), but no simple examples of how to implement this in code. All I can find is cometd, which relies on the Dojo JS framework, and a fairly complex server system.. Basically, how would I use Apache to serve the requests, and how would I write a simple script (say, in PHP) which would "long-poll" the server for new messages? The example doesn't have to be scaleable, secure or complete, it just needs to work!

  • 301 versus inline rewrites

    I'm in the process of adding 'pretty' URLs to an existing CMS, the menu is auto generated and the new 'pretty' URLs are to be handled independently as a seperate module. The auto-generated menu allways has URLs that look like this index.php?menu_id=n which ofcourse we would like to see as eg. /news or /products I'm currently at the point where I have to decide if I'm going to rewrite all output of the current system or simply put in a hook where I redirect to the 'pretty' URL. To put it differently, should i connect to the database, fetch all 'pretty' URLs, run through the existing output from WYSIWYG's, news modules, forums etc. and do some str_replace or other string manipulation (which I think would be a rather tedious and boring process), or should I simply hook in and throw a 301 redirecting index.php?menu_id=3 to /news will Google (or other search engines) penalize me for having 301's in the menus?

  • Trace redirect loop

    I have a large PHP application. After I changed some settings I get a redirection loop (i.e. the browser is redirected to the same page over and over again). The problem is that I don't know which command (which line in which PHP file) in this application causes the redirect. Is there a way to trace calls to the header() function? Or - even better - is there a way to trace redirects in PHP? Thanks in advance, Michel

  • Getting a 404 when setting up MVC in IIS 6 and using .NET 4 beta 2

    Hi all, I've completed this set up on a fair few IIS 6 boxes, but one is giving me a tough time. The problem occurs when I add the application extension mapping to: c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v4.0.21006\aspnet_isapi.dll When this is in place, I get a 404 error on every request. Even if I remove all files from the application directory apart from a basic test.htm and navigate to that, I still get a 404. I've unchecked the "Verify that file exists" I've set up a .NET 4 application pool and pointed my application to that I've changed the ASP.NET version to 4.0.21006 I've checked the IIS log file, and there's nothing useful in there (it only shows the first bunch of requests after each reboot and then stops logging) I've checked the application event log and nothing gets reported I've installed MVC 2 I've copied the set up onto another box, just to be sure, following all the same steps - and it all works! What else can I look out for?? N.B: If I set .NET to v2 in IIS, then I can successfully navigate to \test.htm

  • Charset and POST request

    Hi All! I have a Rails 2.3.5 application that is working fine with UTF-8 and international characters. Now I have made some integration to a payment gateway where I POST some data, wait a while and get a POST back. The problem is that when I get that post back the international characters are broken. Instead of "sørensen" I get: "sørensen". If I do an iconv -fISO-8859-1 -tUTF8 it gets correctly converted to the former (I do that from a OS X command prompt). I have examined the POST request with logger.info(request.headers.inspect) in my controller and I can see that no charset parameter is given. As far as I can see the POST from the gateway must be UTF8 since one character (ø) gets translated to two (ø). So why does Rails think that the POST is ISO-8859-1? I know that one solution is to simply convert the params-hash with Iconv in the controller but I would like to know what is happening. Thanks in advance. Regards, Jacob

  • Parse the HTTP_COOKIES string from Apache for use in #if clause

    I want to be able to read the cookies from Apache's HTTP_COOKIE string and then add includes based on the contents of that string. I've got this far: <!--#set var="cookies" value="HTTP_COOKIE" --> <p>COOKIES: <!--#echo var="$cookies"--></p> which gives me a string with all the cookies in it. Now I want to be able to parse the string for something like Name=Bob. I thought I'd be able to do this: <!--#if expr="$cookies = /Name=([a-zA-Z]+)/"--> <p>Your name is <!--#echo var="$1"--></p> <!--#endif--> But it doesn't seem to work. What should I be doing -- or isn't this possible?

I want to be able to add POST variables to it like $obj->addvar('Name', 'Value'); What I have now is this: function addvar($var, $val) { $postvars[] = Array($var=>$val); } function initiate() { $this->q = $postvars; } if(!empty($this->post)) { $this->params = http_build_query($q); } I haven't tested because it's too incomplete, But would my addvar() function work? How on earth do I append a key+value to the array so http_build_query would accept it?   • Use HttpGet with illegal characters in the URL

    I am trying to use DefaultHttpClient and HttpGet to make a request to a web service. Unfortunately the web service URL contains illegal characters such as { (ex: domain.com/service/{username}). It's obvious that the web service naming isn't well written but I can't change it. When I do HttpGet(url), I get that I have an illegal character in the url (that is { and }). If I encode the URL before that, there is no error but the request goes to a different URL where there is nothing. The url, although has illegal characters, works from the browser but the HttpGet implementation doesn't let me use it. What should I do or use instead to avoid this problem?

  • How to set Content-Type header charset in OpenRasta

    When I return my object as JSON via JsonDataContractCodec OpenRasta sets Content-Type header to application/json but ignores charset part of content type. When I use Chrome it sends GET request with folowing header: Accept-Charset:windows-1251,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.3 and all my utf-8 encoded json objects goes wrong. I tried to override OperationResult with no luck. OpenRasta overwrites my header with codec's one.

    I want to setup a proxy settings in Apache to use Facebook XMPP Chat So far I have setup ejabber server and I am able to access xmpp service using http://mydomain.com:5280/xmpp-http-bind I am able to create Jabber Account too. Now as I want to integrate Facebook XMPP chat , I want my server to sit in between client and chat.facebook.com because I want to implement Facebook chat and custom chat too. So I have read this article and come to know that I need to serve BOSH Service as a proxy in apache to access Facebook Chat service. So I don't know how to set up a proxy in a apache httpd.conf as I have tried following <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass /xmpp-httpbind http://www.mydomain.com:5280/xmpp-http-bind ProxyPassReverse /xmpp-httpbind http://www.mydomain.com:5280/xmpp-http-bind But whenever I request http://www.mydomain.com:5280/xmpp-http-bind from strophe.js I am getting following response from server <body type='terminate' condition='internal-server-error' xmlns='http://jabber.org/protocol/httpbind'> BOSH module not started </body> and server log says following E(<0.567.0:ejabberd_http_bind:1239) : You are trying to use BOSH (HTTP Bind) in host "chat.facebook.com", but the module mod_http_bind is not started in that host.   • MSXML2.XMLHTTP Request to validate entered URL in ASP Classic

    Hi guys. Thanks in advance for any help received. I want to allow our client to enter a URL into a text field which then checks whether the URL exists and works. There are 3 possible outcomes I want to check for: A status of 200 - OK, A status of 500 - Server Error, Or a status of 404 - page not found. When executing the following code in ASP classic I get a status code of 12007 when I should be getting 404. Is this because it can't find a webserver to return a code of 404?   • How can I turn on DynamicCompression feature of IIS programmatically?

    I'm making an installer program for my web application. My web application uses CSS and JS heavily, so I want to enable both Static and Dynamic HttpCompression for IIS7/7.5. It needs 2 steps: I can modified the web.config, put <httpcompression> tag, it's ok. DynamicContentCompression must be turned on in Windows Feature to make httpCompression work. Static HttpCompression is enable by default in IIS7 and IIS7.5, but Dynamic HttpCompression is not enable by default (although it's available). I can do manually by turn on: Start/ControlPanel/ProgramsAndFeatures/TurnWindowsFeatures on or Off/IIS/WWW Service/Performance features/Dynamic Content Compression, but How can I programmatically turn it on that Windows Feature? I can use PowerShell, C# in my installer. Any idea how I might be able to do this? Thanks.

  • Debugging ASP.NET Strings Downloaded to Browser

    I'm downloading a vCard to the browser using Response.Write to output .NET strings with special accented characters. Mime type is text/x-vcard and French characters are appearing wrong in Outlook, for example Montréal;Québec .NET string shows as Montréal Québec in browser. I'm using this vCard code from CodeProject.com I've played with the System.Encoding sample code at the bottom of this linked MSDN page to convert the unicode string into bytes and then write the ascii bytes but then I get Montr?al Qu?bec (progress but not a win). Also I've tried setting content type to both us-ascii and utf-8 of the response. Apparently the vcard file downloads as unicode. If I save it as ASCII text and open in Outlook it's okay. So my assumption is I need to cause download of ASCII but am unsure if I'm doing it wrong or have a misunderstanding of where to start.

    Hi, i have part of Asp.NET 1.1 project. I work with remote site, which works incorrect in some cases - sometimes it write incorrect Content-Encoding header. In my code i get HttpResponse from this remote site. And if Content-Encoding header is equals, for example, "gzip", i need to set Content-Encoding header to "deflate". But there is no properties or methods in HttpResponse class to get Content-Encoding header. Content-Encoding property returns, in my case, "UTF-8". In Watch window i see _customProperties field, which contain wrong string value. How can i change header value with Asp.NET 1.1?

It works fine, and I can close the program with Control-C. But when I press Control-C, this gets outputted: my_web_server.rb:17:in `join': Interrupt from my_web_server.rb:17 So I tried putting that trap("INT") statement at the end, but it isn't getting called. Solution? Thanks.

    In ASP.NET MVC 2, a couple of new action filter attributes were introduced, as "shorthand" for attributes in ASP.NET MVC 1; for example, applying the HttpPostAttribute does the same thing as applying [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] to an action method. In addition, with the more verbose syntax, it is possible to combine different methods, in order to allow for example both Post and Delete. Now I'm wondering: how do the new attributes work? If I apply both [HttpPost] and [HttpDelete], will ASP.NET MVC 2 allow both or require both (thus allowing nothing)?

  • Python web server

    Hi I'd like to get suggestions on the best way to serve python scripts up as web pages. Typically I'd like a way for me and my colleagues to write simple web pages with minimal effort ie we focus on the business logic eg creating simple forms etc. Possibly with some way to manage sessions but this is a nice-to-have. It doesn't have to be WYSIWYG as they are developers but we are busy and don't want to spend long turning an idea into reality. It's for internal use so appearances are not paramount. The software required to enable this should be easy to setup and configure. eg adding new directories and python lib dirs should be easy. My first instinct is apache or tomcat with mod_python. Any comments / suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance.
