  • Uninstall Adobe Flash C4 from mac

    I've installed a trial of Adobe Flash CS4 (i didn't use this trial till the end) and wrongly entered the expired license number. I ran uninstall and tried to install a trial version again. Seems, that it keeps somewhere the wrong serial number and each time i run the Flash application it alerts me, that the license has expired. How do i properly install the trial? Do i have a chance at all? Thanks a lot!

  • Unable to copy files previously extracted from archives created on a Mac, even after claiming ownership

    I reinstalled Windows on my computer today, and backed up my music to a USB drive. Now, I'm trying to copy the files onto my fresh Windows partition, but I'm unable to copy files that I obtained within my previous Windows installation from zip archives created on Macs. When I try to copy those previously-extracted files, I get an error saying that I need permission from S-1-5-21-...-1000 (a bizarre long ID). The first thing I tried was to take ownership of the files by setting my new user account as the owner, but that resulted in errors saying that I need permission from myself! Some Googling suggested adding antivirus suggestions, so I excluded the relevant folders from Microsoft Security Essentials, but the issue persists. For what it's worth, it seems that some program (so far I've only installed Chrome, Microsoft Security Essentials, and the latest Windows updates) created an empty folder named 601c8c7f0e0c03f725 at the root of my external USB hard drive. What gives?

  • Syncronization between folders MAC OS Lion

    I have an iMac at home and I use a Macbook pro for work. I also have a time capsule at home containing my main folder with my main files. I use it as a NAS besides the Time Machine backup tool. I have several personal files I need to be accessing both at home and at work. My wife, who works at home, uses sometimes the same .XLS files and .DOC files I might have used during my day at work, away from home. My question is: Is there a software, or tool that a I can use to sync my iMac and my MB Pro folders? Remembering that: There might be a chance that my wife and I have changed the same files during the day, so the files would have to be merged so none of the information added by either me or my wife would be lost. The software/tool that would be installed on the MB Pro would need to mount the Time Capsule volume so it could locate the main folder on it. It has to be done automatically when my MB is at home ( with a schedule option ); I have tested some softwares like synctwofolders and Chronosync but none fulfilled all my needs. The first couldn't mount the Time Capsule Volume and didn't have the many schedule options. I really liked Chronosync, but it doesn't merge the files. When it detects a conflict ( for instance: my wife changed a .DOC file on the iMAC and I changed the same file on the MB it asks you to choose which version you want to keep instead of allowing you simply to merge them ). I don't have much experience with automator or scripts but maybe you can give me a hand with that.

  • Mac Mail sent messages not in sent folder

    Hi. My powerbook G4 has been lobbying for a furlough recently, and its latest prank is to not show sent messages in my sent mailbox. I have always had a copy of every sent message, and now, for some unknown reason, I can only see sent messages from May 7 and earlier. When I did a test, and sent myself an email, it shows up fine in my inbox, but there's nothing in the sent folder. Weird. It also has the little arrow next to messages that I replied to in the inbox. I guess I'm going to have to cc myself on everything until I get this fixed. Also, it's got another new trick, which I'm assuming is unrelated, but I mention it here just in case it is: the battery says it's "good" and has a cycle count of 0, and a full charge capacity of 2139, but for some reason it's all of a sudden not charging when it's plugged in. It works fine when connected to the wall, but there is no battery life at all. Zip. Any thoughts? Is it just time for a new 'book? This one just got back from Apple, having its harddrive replaced for the fourth time (for free, but seriously, this thing is a lemon). Thanks so much, Elizabeth

    I screwed up my ruby buy executing the command sudo easy_install pip> /usr/bin/ruby -e "$(/usr/bin/curl -fksSL https://raw.github.com/mxcl/homebrew/master/Library/Contributions/install_homebrew.rb)" It showed error: Couldn't find index page for '-e' (maybe misspelled?)   • Eclipse on mac: how comes that everytime I install an Eclipse plug-in on my mac I always get this er

    I'm using Eclipse for several projects on Leopard OSX. I've installed several versions (Classic, PDT, etc). I get asked for my password every time I want to do something there (e.g. save a file, create a directory) and I don't remember this happening before (though this may just be my faulty memory).   • Unable to mount TuneUp DMG and no errors given on Mac

    Simply try to download and run the DMG "installer" from TuneUp on SnowLeopard. It doesn't work, doesn't give any error message and not even Console messages! I've just mounted other DMG files with no problems, both right before and right after trying that one. Anyone knows what could be wrong there? I've actually managed to open it using Springy, so no big worries. But that doesn't answer what's wrong with it. That just shows it's not file corruption.

  • Magic Mouse problems dragging and dropping files in finder (Mac OSX 10.6.3)

    I have an issue dragging files around in the finder with my Magic Mouse. For example, I was trying to select and drag multiple files from the desktop onto an external hard drive. However, whenever I do so, the files either end up deselected (and the move doesn't happen). If I try to drag a single file, finder ends up doing whatever it does to enable the file to be renamed. Reverting back to the touchpad works fine. Is there a problem with drag-and-drop with this mouse, or is there a setting that I am missing (I've scoured the settings, and nothing is jumping out at me). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hi, The server was upgraded from 10.5 from 10.6, during the upgrade the Reverse Zones were lost so I tried to recreate these but found that it's best to delete all zones, definitions and start again. So I've started again and Reverse Zones are appearing but I'm still having issues.   • Mac OSX: Adobe Flash player 10.1.85.3 text issue

    Running Flash Player 10.1.85.3. on OS-X 10.6.4 I've run into a very strange issue with Adobe/Macromedia Flash. Text in dialogs sometimes is not displayed, and the containing boxes are distorted. It occurs in all browsers. This is best demonstrated on YouTube in some of their ads, as well as in Google Analytics overlays on graphs. You can see the issue here: As you can see, where I have moused over the high point, there should be a dialog with some text, but instead it is quite broken. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash plugin several times, reinstalling Google Chrome, validating my fonts with FontBook (removed all dupes/ fonts with warnings). Also as a last resort I checked/ repaired perms on my disk. What should I do?

  • Running Webapp on Mac in UTC (either changing MacBook timezone or tomcat timezone)

    To run my web app, I need to set my timezone to UTC on my MacBook. I can do this temporarily by opening a Konsole and entering sudo ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC /etc/localtime However, my timezone returns to normal when I restart my machine! Any advice? Edit : The response to this question by 'Celada' implies that I can just make my Server UTC. I am using Apache Tomcat 7. Adding to Celada's response, how can I make it UTC? Update - 3rd April : Following Celada's response, I have tried adding SetEnv TZ UTC at the top of startup.sh. This didn't seem to make a difference. After some research, I tried adding export JAVA_OPTS="-Duser.timezone=UTC" to startup.sh, but this too had no effect. Am I adding the correct command to the correct file?

    I did a port install for gcc version 4.7.1 (MacPorts gcc47 4.7.1_2) I named the executable as g+ and placed it in one my $PATH. I use gcc 4.7.1 when I need c++11 standard. I haven't changed the original g++ so as not messup XCode. I am using eclipse-cdt and running the make all from the window.   • Stop Picasa (Mac) from scanning my harddrive

    I want to use Picasa desktop app instead of the tedious & clunky web interface to share a couple of photos. Every time I launch Picasa it proceeds to open an annoying pop-up/tool-tip which flicks through every file on my HD using <=95% of CPU. I don't want this so I click the X. It appears again. I try to drag it somewhere less annoying onscreen but it pings back. I look in prefs for an option to turn it off. I give up and quit app until a new build comes out, which I download and repeat the above. WTF?! I understand Google can't be as cool as Apple - iPhoto isn't perfect by any means but at least it looks nice and 'just works'. I want to launch Picasa, not have it go through everything, not have 1000's of random pics and HD cruft on display in the list, and then perhaps drag in a few photos and upload them. Any idea of if that is possible? </rant>

    I have tried everything I can think of and it still doesn't work. I am trying to get the example code from Larry Ullman's Advanced PHP book to work. His instructions were a bit lacking so I had to do some research.   • Python install issue on Mac OS X

    I have been using the standard python that comes with OS X Lion (2.7.2) but I wanted to build a UCS-4 version to handle 4-byte unicode characters better. I had already installed pip and packages like pytz, virtualenv and virtualenvwrapper, etc., and these are installed in /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages. My $PATH is /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin. To build a new version of python on the machine (outside of any project specific virtual environments, that will come later), I followed the instructions on this article and managed to build it in /usr/local/bin. The problem is that when I launched a new bash window, I got the following virtualenvwrapper error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: No module named virtualenvwrapper.hook_loader virtualenvwrapper.sh: There was a problem running the initialization hooks. If Python could not import the module virtualenvwrapper.hook_loader, check that virtualenv has been installed for VIRTUALENVWRAPPER_PYTHON=/usr/local/bin/python and that PATH is set properly. The instructions said to move /usr/local/bin to the top of the /etc/paths file, and since then I've noticed some strange issues. I installed pip into /usr/local/bin and now I have assumed that since I'm working in /usr/local/bin, and the newly installed python's site packages is now located in /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages, when I do pip freeze, it should be empty as nothing is installed there yet. However, pip freeze still reports things installed in the old (OS X) site-packages folder. Here's some info after the build: $ which python /usr/local/bin/python $ which pip /usr/local/bin/pip $ echo $PATH /usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin When I uninstall a python package with pip, it removes it from the old site-packages folder as expected. When I install it again, instead of installing it in /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages, it installs it in /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages (verified by attempting to install it again and receiving Requirement already satisfied (use --upgrade to upgrade): pytz in /Library/Python/2.7/site-packages ). How is it getting that path for the old site-packages folder? Why won't it install it in the correct location for the python install it's using? I'm getting several other issues since promoting /usr/local/bin but I think if I understand this I'll be able to get somewhere. Can anyone see what's happening? If you need any more info I'll be happy to provide it.

  • Looking for Light Time Management Software Suggestions (for Mac)

    I'm looking for a simple project management app that performs task scheduling, along the line of Merlin or MS Project, but no where near as robustly. I don't need to deal with other (human) resources, but I work on anything from 3 to 6 different projects at a time. What I'd like is to be able to input deadlines and tasks, and have a schedule suggested to complete them. I do technical work, but I don't think I need anything specifically for software development, especially considering I do plenty of other kinds of things, like graphic design and social media PR. I'd really like this to be dead simple, as simple as possible. Suggestions? OmniPlan, something web-based? Definitely cannot afford anything too extravagant, really looking for something under $200.     I want to set up an Astaro (Sophos) UTM in a Virtual Machine. The Setup should be at the end the following: Cable Modem (one IP adress) | [Ethernet] Sophos UTM (running as VM [VMWare Fusion 5] on the MacMini) | [WIFI] Airport Express v2 (for sharing Local Network to wireless and wired clients) 1)| [WIFI] 2)| [Ethernet over Thunderbolt Ethernet Adapter]* Clients MacMini (Local File Server) *To have the Mini also protected behind the UTM So the setup process for the UTM works fine, but then the problems start: I just have one external IP (from my cable modem provider)== So if I put the VM in briged mode my Internet connection drops, because the MacMini also has its IP adress. If I put the VM to NAT mode the Mini itself is not protected by the UTM So: is there a way to hide the en0 interface(Ethernet) and the en1 interface (Wifi) from the MacMini, so that they not even appear in System Preferences Network section but are available to the VM? That way the Mini must connect to the en2 interface (Thunderbolt adapter) to make any Internet/LAN connection and I just use the given single IP from the Cable Modem. Thaks for any suggestions...
