    In order to return a value from a VB.NET function one can assign a value to the "Functions Name" or use "return value." I sometimes see these inter-mixed in the same function. Personally, I prefer the return. My question is, what is the internal difference, if any, between the two?

  • Strategy to rename the require_once function?

    Rather than just writing a new function called import() i'd like to know if there's a better solution. Otherwise require_once would be included in the scope of import() only, which is bad for any "global" variable there. My import() function would work differently than require_once, but serves the same purpose (enhanced usability).

    I'm having problem with mbstring in my Apache2.2/Win7/PHP5.3 setup, though I think it's correctly configured in my php.ini: extension_dir = "ext" extension=php_mbstring.dll I get the following: Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_internal_encoding() in ... I did a manual installation (by the book) using the VC6 .zip. I'm running out of ideas of what to try.

All my urls have the same format (2 letter filenames, with .html extension). I want it to be a safe function, so if someone passes in an empty url it doesn't break. I know how to check for length, but I should be checking for null to right?

    Ok, that sounds really confusing. What I’m trying to do is this. I’ve got a function that uploads/resizes photos to the server. It stores the paths in the DB. I need to attach the id of the business to the row of photos. I don't know what else to do because I thought making the array global would fix that problem. What works: I can echo $t1["games"][0] on the page I need it to display and it gives me the content. I tried echo $t1["games"][0] INSIDE the function and then calling the function and it doesn't display anything.

    What is the best way to break up a recursive function that is using a ton of resources For example: function do_a_lot(){ //a lot of code and processing is done here //it takes a lot of execution time if($true){ //if true we have to do all of that processing again do_a_lot(); } } Is there anyway to make the server only have to take the brunt of the first execution and then break up the recursion into separate processes? Or am I dreaming?
