  • How can I implement incremental (find-as-you-type) search on command line?

    - by florianbw
    I'd like to write small scripts which feature incremental search (find-as-you-type) on the command line. Use case: I have my mobile phone connected via USB, Using gammu --sendsms TEXT I can write text messages. I have the phonebook as CSV, and want to search-as-i-type on that. What's the easiest/best way to do it? It might be in bash/zsh/Perl/Python or any other scripting language. Edit: Solution: Modifying Term::Complete (http://search.cpan.org/~jesse/perl-5.12.0/lib/Term/Complete.pm) did what I want. See below for the answer.

  • Better explanation of $this-> in this example please

    - by Doug
    Referring to this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2035449/why-is-oop-hard-for-me class Form { protected $inputs = array(); public function makeInput($type, $name) { echo '<input type="'.$type.'" name="'.$name.'">'; } public function addInput($type, $name) { $this->inputs[] = array("type" => $type, "name" => $name); } public function run() { foreach($this->inputs as $array) { $this->makeInput($array['type'], $array['name']; } } } $form = new form(); $this->addInput("text", "username"); $this->addInput("text", "password");** Can I get a better explanation of what the $this->input[] is doing in this part: public function addInput($type, $name) { $this->inputs[] = array("type" => $type, "name" => $name); }

  • Possible to use Tables of same type in Linq to SQL?

    - by Schneider
    Lets say I've got an object model, where I have many collections of the same type. For example something like class StockMarketData { List<SummaryData> WeeklySummary; List<SummaryData> MonthlySummary; } class SummaryData { DateTime DateTime {get; set;} double Value {get; set;} } Those lists will map onto database tables. If you actually use L2S to generate a model from the database you will get something like: class StockMarketData { List<WeeklySummaryData> WeeklySummary; List<MonthlySummaryData> MonthlySummary; } Even though WeeklySummaryData and MonthlySummaryData have the same shape. Is it possible for Linq to SQL to create tables from a database of summary data, but get each table to contain the same type (such as shown in the top example).

  • Using unmanaged code, how can I find a type that has a given custom attribute assigned to it?

    - by Andrew
    I had thought I could enumerate the types using IMetaDataImport.EnumTypeDefs and for each of the tokens returned, call IMetaDataImport.EnumCustomAttributes. This works, in so much as I get an array of mdCustomAttribute tokens. Using these tokens I can get a metadata token representing the Type of the returned custom attribute, by calling IMetaDataImport.GetCustomAttributeProps. Comparing my results against ILDASM, I can see that this matches the "CustomAttribute Type" that ILDASM reports. However, I cannot work out how to determine the "CustomAttributeName" that ILDASM reports. This is what I really want! While I would be interested in knowing how to get the CustomAttributeName, I would settle for an alternate approach to solving the problem.

  • Is There a Good Pattern for Creating a Unique Id based on a Type?

    - by Michael Kelley
    I have a template that creates a unique identifier for each type it is instanced. Here's a streamlined version of the template: template <typename T> class arType { static const arType Id; // this will be unique for every instantiation of arType<>. } // Address of Id is used for identification. #define PA_TYPE_TAG(T) (&arType<T >::Id) This works when you have an executable made purely of static libraries. Unfortunately we're moving to an executable made up of dlls. Each dlls could potentially have its own copy of Id for a type. One obvious solution is to explicitly instantiate all instances of arType. Unfortunately this is cumbersome, and I'd like to ask if anyone can propose a better solution?

  • Access NFS share from cygwin?

    - by Jason Voegele
    We have a Windows 2003 Server on which we have installed Microsoft's Services for UNIX, and we have mounted a few NFS shares that contain shared resources that we need to access from this box. When I log in to this server with remote desktop, I am able to browse the contents of the NFS shares and everything works fine. However, one use case that we have is that we need to access this server using SSH, and still be able to access the NFS shares. We are running the Cygwin SSH daemon to provide SSH access to the server, but for some reason when we log in to the Windows 2003 server using SSH we can no longer access the NFS shares. To demonstrate, here is the output of the 'mount' command, first from a Cygwin shell when logged in with remote desktop: $ mount C:/cygwin/bin on /usr/bin type ntfs (binary,auto) C:/cygwin/lib on /usr/lib type ntfs (binary,auto) C:/cygwin on / type ntfs (binary,auto) C: on /cygdrive/c type ntfs (binary,posix=0,user,noumount,auto) O: on /cygdrive/o type nfs (binary,posix=0,user,noumount,auto) P: on /cygdrive/p type nfs (binary,posix=0,user,noumount,auto) Z: on /cygdrive/z type nfs (binary,posix=0,user,noumount,auto) And now, the same 'mount' command when logged in with SSH: $ mount C:/cygwin/bin on /usr/bin type ntfs (binary,auto) C:/cygwin/lib on /usr/lib type ntfs (binary,auto) C:/cygwin on / type ntfs (binary,auto) C: on /cygdrive/c type ntfs (binary,posix=0,user,noumount,auto) Notice the missing O: P: and Z: NFS shares in the latter. Can anyone tell me why I am unable to see these NFS shares when logged in with SSH? Thanks!

  • Reflection PropertyInfo GetValue call errors out for Collection<> type property.

  • Missing parameter error after running MySql query

    - by annelie
    Hello, I'm completely new to MySql and haven't used SqlDataSource with UpdateParameters before, so I'm probably missing something very obvious. When trying to update a record, the update does happen but then throws an error saying "'id' parameter is missing at the statement". So the query works and the database gets updated as it should, but an error is thrown afterwards. These are the update parameters: <UpdateParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="business_name" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="addr_line_1" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="addr_line_2" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="addr_line_3" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="postcode" Type="string" Size="32" /> <asp:Parameter Name="county" Type="string" Size="128" /> <asp:Parameter Name="town_city" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="tl_url" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="customer_id" Type="string" Size="16" /> <asp:Parameter Name="region_id" Type="Int16" /> <asp:Parameter Name="description" Type="string" Size="1024" /> <asp:Parameter Name="approval_status" Type="string" Size="1" /> <asp:Parameter Name="tl_user_name" Type="string" Size="256" /> <asp:Parameter Name="phone" Type="string" Size="50" /> <asp:Parameter Name="uploaders_own" Type="Int16" /> </UpdateParameters> Here's the update statement: UPDATE myTable SET business_name = ?, addr_line_1 = ?, addr_line_2 = ?, addr_line_3 = ?, postcode = ?, county = ?, town_city = ?, tl_url = ?, customer_id = ?, region_id = ?, description = ?, approval_status = ?, tl_user_name = ?, phone = ?, uploaders_own = ?   • How to access a structure member in a function that get it as void* type?

    - by Ahmad
    I want to have a function that accepts different type of structures as argument. So, since I don't have a specific type, I have to use void*. Now question is: when I pass a structure to this function, how can I access a known member of this structure inside the function? Specifically, I know that all structures have str1 as a member and I want, for example, print it. Here is a sample code: struct { char* str1; float tt1; } var1 = {"This is me", 12}; struct { char* str1; int tt2; } var2 = {"This is you", 18}; void printStruct(void* str) { printf("\n the structure string is %s", ??); //can I put something in ?? to print the string? } main(....) { printStruct(&var1); printStruct(&var2); }

  • Is there a more correct type for passing in the file path and file name to a method

    - by Rihan Meij
    Hi What I mean by this question is, when you need to store or pass a URL around, using a string is probably a bad practice, and a better approach would be to use a URI type. However it is so easy to make complex things more complex and bloated. So if I am going to be writing to a file on disk, do I pass it a string, as the file name and file path, or is there a better type that will be better suited to the requirement? This code seems to be clunky, and error prone? I would also need to do a whole bit of checking if it is a valid file name, if the string contains data and the list goes on. private void SaveFile(string fileNameAndPath) { //The normal stuff to save the file }

  • Search Oracle date type column with hibernate, seach by everything in that day - ignore the time.

    - by Setori
    hi there <property name="batchCreatedDate" type="java.util.Date"> <meta attribute="field-description">batch create date</meta> <column name="BATCH_CREATED_DATE" length="7" not-null="true" /> </property> table column type is BATCH_CREATED_DATE DATE NOT NULL With the data in that date column being similar to this '2010-05-13 14:56:36.0' now I want to search for all items within the 24 hours of 2010-05-13, currently my call only returns all items with date "2010-05-13 14:56:36.0" exactly. What would my HQL statement look like to hand this kind of scenario? Thank you so much

  • How to implement a TypeConverter for a type and property I don't own?

    - by CannibalSmith
    This is annoying: <GeometryDrawing> <GeometryDrawing.Pen> <Pen Brush="Black"/> </GeometryDrawing.Pen> </GeometryDrawing> I want this: <GeometryDrawing Pen="Black"/> So I write a TypeConverter: public class PenConverter : TypeConverter { static readonly BrushConverter brushConverter = new BrushConverter(); public override bool CanConvertFrom(ITypeDescriptorContext context, Type sourceType) { if (sourceType == typeof(string)) return true; return base.CanConvertFrom(context, sourceType); } public override object ConvertFrom(ITypeDescriptorContext context, CultureInfo culture, object value) { var s = value as string; if (a != null) { var brush = brushConverter.ConvertFromInvariantString(s) as Brush; return new Pen(brush, 1); } return base.ConvertFrom(context, culture, value); } } Now, how do I link it up with the Pen type? I can't just add a TypeConverterAttribute to it as I don't own it (nor do I own GeometryDrawing.Pen property).

  • why primitive type will call first rather than wrapper classes?

    - by kandarp
    Hello EveryOne, public class A { public void test(Integer i) { System.out.println("In Wrapper Method"); } public void test(int i) { System.out.println("In primitive Method"); } public static void main(String args[]) { A a = new A(); a.test(5); } } When I will call test method from main and pass integer argument, then it will call the method which accept primitive type as argument. I just want to know that why it call primitive type method rather than the method who accepts wrapper class as argument? Is there any rule, which java follow to call methods? Thanks,

  • Is there a reason why a base class decorated with XmlInclude would still throw a type unknown exception when serialized?

    - by Tedford
    I will simplify the code to save space but what is presented does illustrate the core problem. I have a class which has a property that is a base type. There exist 3 dervived classes which could be assigned to that property. If I assign any of the derived classes to the container then the XmlSerializer throws dreaded "The type xxx was not expected. Use the XmlInclude or SoapInclude attribute to specify types that are not known statically." exception when attempting to seralize the container. However my base class is already decorated with that attribute so I figure there must be an additional "hidden" requirement. The really odd part is that the default WCF serializer has no issues with this class hierarchy. The Container class [DataContract] [XmlRoot(ElementName = "TRANSACTION", Namespace = Constants.Namespace)] public class PaymentSummaryRequest : CommandRequest { /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the summary. /// </summary> /// <value>The summary.</value> /// <remarks></remarks> [DataMember] public PaymentSummary Summary { get; set; } /// <summary> /// Initializes a new instance of the <see cref="PaymentSummaryRequest"/> class. /// </summary> public PaymentSummaryRequest() { Mechanism = CommandMechanism.PaymentSummary; } } The base class [DataContract] [XmlInclude(typeof(xxxPaymentSummary))] [XmlInclude(typeof(yyyPaymentSummary))] [XmlInclude(typeof(zzzPaymentSummary))] [KnownType(typeof(xxxPaymentSummary))] [KnownType(typeof(xxxPaymentSummary))] [KnownType(typeof(zzzPaymentSummary))] public abstract class PaymentSummary { } One of the derived classes [DataContract] public class xxxPaymentSummary : PaymentSummary { } The serialization code var serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(PaymentSummaryRequest)); serializer.Serialize(Console.Out,new PaymentSummaryRequest{Summary = new xxxPaymentSummary{}}); The Exception System.InvalidOperationException: There was an error generating the XML document. --- System.InvalidOperationException: The type xxxPaymentSummary was not expected. • associating a filetype with a batch script, and getting parameters passed to file of that type.

    - by Carson Myers
    Sorry for the cryptic title. I have associated python scripts with a batch file that looks like this: python %* I did this because on my machine, python is installed at C:\python26 and I prefer not to reinstall it (for some reason, it won't let me add a file association to the python interpreter. I can copy the executable to Program Files and it works -- but nothing out of Program Files seems to work). Anyways, I can do this, so far: C:\py django-admin C:\py python "C:\python26\Lib\site-packages\django\bin\django-admin.py" Type 'django-admin.py help' for usage. C:\py django-admin startproject myProj C:\py python "C:\python26\Lib\site-packages\django\bin\django-admin.py" Type 'django-admin.py help' for usage. but the additional parameters don't get passed along to the batch script. This is getting very annoying, all I want to do is run python scripts :) How can I grab the rest of the parameters in this situation?

  • Which database engines support IP addresses as a native type?

    - by Matt McClellan
    I'm trying to find databases with support for IP addresses as a native type (as opposed to storing as a string, or an unsigned integer, which at least one commenter has already pointed out won't work for IPv6). The primary reason I'm looking for this is ease of development. For example, sorting on a "native" IP address column would be correct (as opposed to when it's stored as a string). I would assume support for such a type would also include useful operations such as determining if an IP address is inside a specified network for use in WHERE clauses. The only one I'm aware of so far is PostgreSQL with its inet class. Does anyone have any others?

  • Insert new row with data computed from other rows

    - by Tyler McHenry
    Suppose I have a MySQL table called MyTable, that looks like this: +----+------+-------+ | Id | Type | Value | +----+------+-------+ | 0 | A | 1 | | 0 | B | 1 | | 1 | A | 2 | | 1 | B | 3 | | 2 | A | 5 | | 2 | B | 8 | +----+------+-------+ And, for each Id, I want to insert a new row with type C whose Value is the sum of the type A and B values for the rows of the same Id. The primary key on this table is (Id, Type), so there's no question of duplication of Id,Type pairs. I can create the rows I want with this query: SELECT MyTable_A.Id AS Id, 'C' AS Type, (A_Val + B_Val) AS Value FROM (SELECT Id, Value AS A_Val FROM MyTable WHERE Type='A') AS MyTable_A JOIN (SELECT Id, Value AS B_Val FROM MyTable WHERE Type='B') AS MyTable_B ON MyTable_A.Id = MyTable_B.Id Giving: +----+------+-------+ | Id | Type | Value | +----+------+-------+ | 0 | C | 2 | | 1 | C | 5 | | 2 | C | 13 | +----+------+-------+ But the question is: How do I use this result to insert the generated type-C rows into MyTable? Is there a relatively simple way to do this with a query, or do I need to write a stored procedure? And if the latter, guidance would be helpful, as I'm not too well versed in them.

  • Is there any way to determine what type of memory the segments returned by VirtualQuery() are?

    - by bdbaddog
    Greetings, I'm able to walk a processes memory map using logic like this: MEMORY_BASIC_INFORMATION mbi; void *lpAddress=(void*)0; while (VirtualQuery(lpAddress,&mbi,sizeof(mbi))) { fprintf(fptr,"Mem base:%-10x start:%-10x Size:%-10x Type:%-10x State:%-10x\n", mbi.AllocationBase, mbi.BaseAddress, mbi.RegionSize, mbi.Type,mbi.State); lpAddress=(void *)((unsigned int)mbi.BaseAddress + (unsigned int)mbi.RegionSize); } I'd like to know if a given segment is used for static allocation, stack, and/or heap and/or other? Is there any way to determine that?
