  • ubuntu: mumble 1.2.2 in Karmic

    Karmic only has mumble 1.1.8, but if I want to connect to a 1.2 server I need to upgrade... So I would like to know how I can upgrade to mumble 1.2.2 without messing myself up for later when I upgrade to 10.04 and beyond... I just want a smooth transition into the next versions of mumble. Is there anyway to upgrade to this newer version and either keep it in the package manager or make it not interfere with the natural upgrades the program will later recieve from the package manager?   • Help me understand Ubuntu user/group permissions.

    I'm beginning to deal with more than one user on my system (it's a VPS serving some sites) and I need to make sure I understand how group permissions work. Here's my setup: I have an account named "admin" .. it's basically the primary account that is used for serving most of the sites that I control myself. Now, I added a second account named "Ville" as one of my users wants to be able to administer that site. So, I can do this the easy way and just chown their domains folder under the ville user and viola, they have permission to do whatever they need be and so forth. However, let's say I want to also give the admin user access to the files (modifying and all) .. how can I put both users into the same group and give them both permission? I've tried doing: sudo usermod -a -G admin ville To add the ville into the admin group, but ville still cannot edit files by admin. Permissions for the primary directory for the ville user are read/write for both owner and group, and the current group for the files is admin:admin .. But ville still can't write into the directory. So, what should I be doing here to get this right and secure at the same time? Thank you.

    I have a vpn server with HTTPS, L2TP, OPENVPN, and PPTP. I want to set up a proxy on the server, so all connection that comes from vpn clients, they will use that.     I installed the apache dev headers: sudo apt-get install apache2-prefork-dev Downloaded and compiled the module as outlined here: http://tn123.ath.cx/mod_xsendfile/ Added the following line to /etc/apache2/mods-available/xsendfile.load: LoadModule xsendfile_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_xsendfile.so Added this to my VirtualHost: <VirtualHost *:80> XSendFile on XSendFilePath /path/to/protected/files/ Enabled the module by doing: sudo a2enmod xsendfile Then I restarted Apache. Then this code still just provides me with an empty file with 0 bytes: file_path = '/path/to/protected/files/some_file.zip' file_name = 'some_file.zip' response = HttpResponse('', mimetype='application/zip') response['Content-Disposition'] = 'attachment; filename=%s' % smart_str(file_name) response['X-Sendfile'] = smart_str(file_path) return response And there is not in the Apache error log that pertains to XSendFile. What am I doing wrong?

  • Redmine + Backlogs not working on Turnkey Linux (Ubuntu)

    I'm trying to get Redmine + Backlogs work, so for starters I took a virtual appliance with Redmine from Turnkey Linux (http://www.turnkeylinux.org/redmine) and installed Backlogs on top of it, following the installation instructions (http://www.redminebacklogs.net/en/installation/ - used method #2). It seems to have installed ok, but when I go to the "Backlogs" tab and attempt to create some stories, this is what I get - first shows some kind of error/warning icon, others continue to display "in progress" icon indefinitely (can't post a screenshot, unfortunately, but you can take a look at it here: http://www.redmine.org/attachments/5329/Backlogs.jpg). None of the stories get actually created - leaving this tab and returning back to it shows empty backlogs. So.. what am I doing wrong, and how to fix this?

I created a symlink using: ln -s /media/MYDISK /home/camilo/MYDISK chmod 777 /home/camilo/MYDISK I'm setting up smb.conf like this: [myshare1] comment = external disk browsable = yes path = /home/camilo/MYDISK guest ok = yes read only = no create mask = 0775 Also, in the [global] section I tried adding the following lines: follow symlinks = yes wide links = yes unix extensions = no The problem is that when browsing the shared folder in Windows 7, I get a "\\etc\myshare1 is not accessible" error. When pointing the path to a regular folder it works fine. Also, when I point it directly to /media/MYDISK, it shows the same error. EDIT: to make it more interesting, I have no graphical interface, so I need to touch the config files directly..

Before its fine i can ping google.co.uk after cant get out. Is there something wrong in my syntax here or what is the issue...? Im just trying to NAT my VPN so i can get internet access.     On my server the filesystem includes these partitions: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda6 4.6G 929M 3.5G 21% / /dev/sda5 76M 20M 53M 27% /boot /dev/sda8 449G 199M 426G 1% /home /dev/sda7 4.6G 4.4G 0 100% /var (Output from df -ah) I'm storing the web sites and databases under /var and as you can see it's got full. The /home folder just has basic user directories and nothing else so I'd like to repartition the server so that /dev/sda8 is about 5GB, with the rest going to dev/sda7. What's the easiest way to do this via command line (i.e. SSH)?

  • Ubuntu, delete all files that start with '._'

    I want to delete all files that start with ._, when I run this command: me@me:/var/www/my/project$ sudo rm -Rvi ._* rm: cannot remove `._*': No such file or directory I'm pretty sure the . is causing problems, making it think I mean the current directory, what's the correct syntax to achieve this? I know these files originated from my Mac, I need a way of nuking them :-) Many thanks Ben

  • 403 with Apache and Symfony on Ubuntu 10.04

    I'm trying to run symfony on my apache installation (I'm using xampp for the whole package) and it keeps giving me a 403 error every time I try to access my website. I've got vhosts set up with the following: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName localhost DocumentRoot "/opt/lampp/htdocs" DirectoryIndex index.php <Directory "/opt/lampp/htdocs"> AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName servername.localhost DocumentRoot /home/me/web/server/web DirectoryIndex index.php Alias /sf "/lib/vendor/symfony/data/bin/web/sf" <Directory "/home/me/web/server/web"> AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> </VirtualHost> <Directory "/lib/vendor/symfony/data/bin/web/sf"> Allow from All </Directory> I've also added "127.0.0.1 servername.localhost" in my hosts file. When I try to access "servername.localhost" it just gives me a 403 error. I've chmod'd 777 the symfony directory and my website directory in my home directory and used './symfony project:permissions' to let symfony check that permissions are set up correctly but still not result. If I move my website directory into "/opt/lampp/htdocs" then it will serve it from there but still has problems access the symfony stuff such as the debug toolbar. Any help would be appreciated.
