• Problem upgrading eclipse rcp app from 3.3 to 3.5 on Mac OS

  I previously had an eclipse rcp app based on eclipse 3.3 pugins deployed on both windows and mac OS X 10.4. i'm now trying to port the app to java 1.6 and eclipse 3.5 (Build id: 20100218-1602) plugins on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard). I can launch the product from eclipse 3.5 on windows but not on Mac OS X. I have the 64bit cocoa eclipse IDE and java 6. In the launch configuration I set runtime JRE to JVM 1.6.0 and added required plugins. The plugins validate and everything else looks similar to windows configuration where it works, but when I launch i only get the following two lines in the console: 2010-03-16 13:29:32.742 java[758:10b] [Java CocoaComponent compatibility mode]: Enabled 2010-03-16 13:29:32.744 java[758:10b] [Java CocoaComponent compatibility mode]: Setting timeout for SWT to 0.100000 and then the program appears to just hang indefinitely. • UML class diagram vs ER database diagram

  Hi, I'm a little confused, I'm developing a program, the program consist in two parts, the server and the clients, there are groups, places, messages... stored in the server, and the clients has to connect with it. I've design the use cases diagram, the activity diagrams, and I have design the class diagram too. The thing is that I want to implement the server in a mysql tables for storing the users, groups, places... users in groups... so I've designed a E-R diagram consisting in 6 tables, but the problem is that I think that my class diagram and my ER diagram looks too similar, I mean, I think I'm not doing things right because I have a class for each table practically, and when I have to extract all the users on my system, do I have to convert all the rows into objects at first and write in the database for each object modified? The easy choice for me would be to base my whole application only in the database, and making a class to extract and insert data in it, but I have to follow the UML specification and I'm a little confused what to do with the class diagram, because the books I have read say that I have to create a class for each "entity" of my program. • Extra white space, on HTML output, on PHP MVC

  Hi, I'm getting extra white space, that is not CSS, or nothing like it on the view output: The HTML. I've checked for ? (removed, where I could), saved UTF8 without BOM. Checked for existent white space in the beginning of each file, even at end. This is the structure: index.php - this is the entry point; MODEL/ CONTROLLER/ VIEW/ Let's say, that trough method GET, its sent the var TPL with some value. Let's call it LIST, so it pulls the LIST model, with all data and then show the right template to the user, with the right data. I used and tested, with require_once, include_once, include, even tested with readfile (just to test). The LIST Template opens the header.tpl and footer.tpl; I also tryed to remove this both includes from LIST template, but still, the extra white space continued. This is where the extra white space is coming from. This controller is placed between controller activity runs here , this is where the extra white space is coming from: $model_works-getRows(); $rows = $model_works-rows; if ( !require_once('views/list_works.tpl.php') ) { echo "Error."; } // end if clause The list_works.tpl.php, is basicly HTML with tags; I've t tested by changing the extension to something else, like html. Also, just to remember that at top of this file, we are using require_once to open the header.tpl and at bottom the footer.tpl. • FxCop hates my usage of MVVM

  I've just started to work with FxCop to see how poorly my code does against its full set of rules. I'm starting off with the "Breaking" rules, and the first one I came across was CA2227, which basically says that you should make a collection property's setter readonly, so that you can't accidentally change the collection data. Since I'm using MVVM, I've found it very convenient to use an ObservableCollection with get/set properties because it makes my GUI updates easy and concise in the code-behind. However, I can also see what FxCop is complaining about. Another situation that I just ran into is with WF, where I need to set the parameters when creating the workflow, and I'd hate to have to write a wrapper class around the collection I'm using just to avoid this particular error message. For example, here's a sample runtime error message that I get when I make properties readonly: The activity 'MyWorkflow' has no public writable property named 'MyCollectionOfStuff' What are you opinions on this? I could either ignore this particular error, but that's probably not good because I could conceivably violate this rule elsewhere in the code where MVVM doesn't apply (model only code, for example). I think I could also change it from a property to a class with methods to manipulate the underlying collection, and then raise the necessary notification from the setter method. I'm a little confused... can anyone shed some light on this?

• Subscription Management with Merchant Account via API

  I'm researching gateways/vendors that provide the ability to create subscription based transitions for merchant accounts. In other words, I want to allow customers to signup for a subscription for a website service that charges once a month. Authorize.Net has an ARB (Automated Recurring Billing) Module. The cost is cheap, $10 a month for the service, with unlimited subscriptions, and they have an API that allows XML or SOAP access to create, update and cancel. The LARGE negative of the service is that it doesn't have elegant way to obtain the current status of a subscription. They can send a daily email with an attached CSV file, or someone can login into the site and review statuses – neither is an enterprise solution. The parent company "CyberSource" has a "Recurring Billing Service" which implies a more robust solution, including API access to subscription information. I’m currently waiting for a sales call back on costs related to the service. I also looked at PayPal's Recurring Billing Service, but that appears to require that users are redirected to the PayPal site to signup for the subscription -- again, not an an elegant solution. Does anyone know of any other vendors/gateways that offer subscription service, that meet the following criteria: Vendor/Gateway must host the credit card number and be PCI compliant Have an API that accessible via a Web Service, Post over HTTPS or SOAP Have an API that allows querying the status of subscriptions and/or the ability to query for activity since a certain date. • OrientationEventListener not working properly

  Hi all, I need to handle orientation changes in my Android application. For this purpose I decided to use OrientationEventListener convenience class. But his callback method is given somewhat strange behavior. My application starts in the portrait mode and then eventually switches to the lanscape one. I have some custom code executing in the callback onOrientationChanged method that provides some additional UI handling logic - it has a few calls to findViewById. What is strange is that when switching back from landscape to portrait mode onOrientationChanged callback is called twice, and what's even worse - the second call is dealing with bad Context - findViewById method starts returning null. These calls are made right from the MainThread @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); listener = new OrientationListener(); } @Override protected void onResume() { super.onResume(); // enabling listening listener.enable(); } @Override protected void onPause() { super.onPause(); // disabling listening listener.disable(); } I've replicated the same behavior with a dummy Activity without any logic except for one that deals with orientation hadling. • iPhone SDK - (void)viewDidLoad { } - Show Progress

  I have a long - (void)viewDidLoad { } function that uses the internet to load a page, and whenever the application loads the URL, the screen is black. I have a UIActivityIndicator setup to show that the address is loading, but I don't know how to prevent it from seeming as if the application is not responding, and I don't want to show the network activity indicator [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setNetworkActivityIndicatorVisible:YES]; because the screen will still be black, just with a loader in the top corner. • Classic ASP Session not working in IIS 7 Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

  Hi, I've been googleing and searching here info about this but so far couldn't find anything relevant to my problem. We have a website currently working on II6 and Windows Server 2003 (x86) without any problem. Now we want to migrate our server to a Virtual Machine with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) and IIS7. Out current app is built in Classic ASP and SQL Server (This one located on a 2nd Server but this is staying the way it is now). The website is configured as a WebSite, not a virtual directory. Using DefaultAppPool with 4 applications. • How to set the tableview's top using contentinset property while being at the bottom of the table

  Hi all, I'm having a tableview with 20 rows and 250 as their rowheight. While I'm at the bottom of the tableview, I want to shift the tableview upwards by 65px. I tried doing self.tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(-65.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f); Also self.tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake((4633.0f - 65.0f), 0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f); where 4633.0f is my contentoffset.y, but with no success. When the last cell is pulled upwards, I'm showing a view below the last cell with an activity indicator on it to depict that more data is getting loaded. I need to keep that view visible for 2 seconds so I want to push the tableview cells up and after that I want to bring the tableview to its original position and reset the view below that.   Hi everyone, I am trying to do an autocomplete version my way (logic, layout, etc...) , so I don't want to use the AutoCompleteTextView. My question is how to set an EditText on top of a ListView in a class inheriting from a ListAcvitivy. I tried two kinds of layout, none of them worked. • Porting a select loop application to Android with NDK. Design question.

  Hi, I have an network application which uses a select loop like this: bool shutdown=false; while (!shutdown) { [do something] select(...,timeout); } THe main loop cannot work like this in an Android application anymore since the application needs to receive Intents, need to handle GUI, etc. I think I have basically three possibilities: Move the main loop to the java part of the application. Let the loop run in its own thread and somehow communicate from/to java. Screw Android <= 2.3 and use a native activity and use AInputQueue/ALooper instead of select. The first possibility is not easy since java has no select which works on fds. Simply using the select and return after each loop to java is not an elegant possibility either since that requires setting the timeout to something like 20ms to have a good response time in the java part of the program. The second probability sound nicer but I have do some communication between java and the c++/c part of the program. Things that cold work: Using a socket, kind of ugly. using native calls in the "java gui thread" and callback from native in the "c thread". Both threads need to have thread safe implementations but this is managable. I have not explored the third possibility but I think that it is not the way to go. I think I can hack something together which will work but I asking what is the best path to chose.

• Why is Reporting Services report vastly slower than its query?

  I have a query that takes roughly 2 minutes to run. It's not terribly complex in terms of parameters or anything, and the report itself doesn't do any truly extensive processing. Basically just spits the data straight out in a nice format. (Actually one of the reports doesn't format the data at all, just returns a flat table meant to be manipulated in excel.) It's not returning a massive set of data either. Yet the report takes upwards of 30 minutes to run. What could cause this? This is SSRS 2005 against a SQL 2005 database btw. EDIT: OK, I found that with the addition of WITH (NOLOCK) in the report it takes the same time as the query does through SSMS. Why would the query be handled differently if it's coming from reporting services (or visual studio on my local machine) than if coming from SSMS on my local machine? I saw the query running in Activity Monitor a couple times in SLEEP_WAIT mode, but not blocked by anything... EDIT2: The connection string is: Data Source=SERVERNAME;Initial Catalog=DBName

• Android: ListActivity design - changing the content of the List Adapter

  Hi, I would like to write a rather simple content application which displays a list of textual items (along with a small pic). I have a standard menu in which each menu item represents a different category of textual items (news, sports, leisure etc.). Pressing a menu item will display a list of textual items of this category. Now, having a separate ListActivity for each category seems like an overkill (or does it?..) Naturally, it makes much more sense to use one ListActivity and replace the data of its adapter when each category is loaded. My concern is when "back" is pressed. The adapter is loaded with items of the current category and now I need to display list of the previous category (and enable clicking on list items too...). Since I have only one activity - I thought of backup and load mechanism in onPause() and onResume() functions as well as making some distinction whether these function are invoked as a result of a "new" event (menu item selected) or by a "back" press. This seems very cumbersome for such a trivial usage... Am I missing something here? Thanks, Rob

• Workflow Service host not publishing Metadata.

  Still hacking away with extreme persistence at WF services hosted outside of IIS. I'm now having issues with my WF service publishing metadata. Can someone take a look at my code and see what step I'm missing? The few tutorials that I've stumbled across for my scenario make it look so easy, and I know it is. I'm just missing something ridiculously simple. Here's my current trial code: const string serviceUri = "http://localhost:9009/Subscribe"; WorkflowServiceHost host = new WorkflowServiceHost( new Subscribe(), new Uri(serviceUri) ); SubscriberSvcHost.AddDefaultEndpoints( ); SubscriberSvcHost.Open(); Subscribe() is an activity that is coded in an xaml file and contains simple receive and sendreply activities to test out my hosted workflow service. It is NOT a xamlx (WF service) file. Seems like this should be simple enough to work but when I start the application and the service fires I get this message in my browser when navigating to the URI: "Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled." Shouldn't adding the default endpoints provide enough metadata and description to satisfy the service init and then go into its wait for message state?

• My AJAX is only firing once,

• How to persist options selected in AlertDialog spawned from ItemizedOverlay onTap method

  In the description of how to add a list of options to an AlertDialog the official Android documentation alludes to saving a users preferences with one of the "data storage techniques." The examples assume the AlertDialog has been spawned within an Activity class. In my case I've created a class that extends ItemizedOverlay. This class overrides the onTap method and uses an AlertDialog to prompt the user to make a multi-choice selection. I would like to capture and persist the selections for each OverlayItem they tap on. The below code is the onTap method I've written. It functions as written but doesn't yet do what I'd hope. I'd like to capture and persist each selection made by the user to be used later. How do I do that? Is using an AlertDialog in this manner a good idea? • General Question About WPF Control Behavior and using Invoke

  I have been putting off activity on SO because my current reputation is "1337". :) This is a question of "why" and not "how". By default, it seems that WPF does not set focus to the first control in a window when it's opening. In addition, when a textbox gets focus, by default it does not have it's existing text selected. So basically when I open a window, I want focus on the first control of the window, and if that control is a textbox, I want it's existing text (if any) to be selected. I found some tips online to accomplish each of these behaviors, and combined them. The code below, which I placed in the constructor of my window, is what I came up with: Loaded += (sender, e) => { MoveFocus(new TraversalRequest(FocusNavigationDirection.Next)); var textBox = FocusManager.GetFocusedElement(this) as TextBox; if (textBox != null) { Action select = textBox.SelectAll; //for some reason this doesn't work without using invoke. Dispatcher.Invoke(DispatcherPriority.Loaded, select); } }; So, my question. Why does the above not work without using Dispatcher.Invoke? Is something built into the behavior of the window (or textbox) cause the selected text to be de-selected post-loading? • Odd difference between Python 2.5 and Python 2.6 on MacOS 10.6 using ctypes and libproc proc_pidinfo

  I'm trying to determine the current working directory of a process given its PID. The command-line utility lsof does something similar.   I am trying to get the aspnet membership UserId field from an anonymous user. Userid PropertyNames PropertyValuesString 36139818-4245-45dd-99cb-2a721d43f9c5 Email:S:0:17: [email protected] I just need to find how to get the 'Userid' value. It is not possible to use : Membership.Provider.GetUser(Request.AnonymousID, false); The Request.AnonymousID is a different GUID and not equal to 36139818-4245-45dd-99cb-2a721d43f9c5. Is there any way to get this Userid. I want to associate it with incomplete activity for an anonymous user. Using the primary key of aspnet_Users is preferable to having to create my own GUID (which I could do and store in the profile). This is basically a dupe of this question but the question was never actually answered.

  Hi, Could anyone tell me how to implement a marquee style progress bar in wxPython? As stated on MSDN: you can animate it in a way that shows activity but does not indicate what proportion of the task is complete. Thank you. I tried this but it doesn't seem to work. The timer ticks but the gauge doesn't scroll.
