• Persisting sensitve data in asp.net, odd implementation

  For reasons not in scope of this question I have implemented a .net project in an iframe which runs from a classic asp page. The classic asp site persisted a few sensitive values by hitting the db on each page. I have passed there variables as xml to the aspx page, now I need to make these values available on any page of this .net site. I've looked into the cache object but we are on a web farm so I am not sure it would work. Is there a way I can can instantiate an object in a base page class and have other pages inherit from the base page to access these values? What is the best way to persist these values? A few more points to consider the site runs in https mode and I cannot use session variables, and I would like to avoid cookies if possible..

  Hi, i have asp button like this: <asp:Button ID="ImportToDB" runat="server" OnClick="ImportToDB_Click" /> And i need to call a javascript function when mouseover on this button. So i have in page_load(): ImportToDB.Attributes.Add("onmouseover","javascript:OnButtonMove(" + ImportToDB.ClientID + ")"); javascript function: <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> function OnButtonMove(id) { //something } </script> Everithing work fine only if button is enabled. but when i disable button, this javascript function will never fire. what i am trying to do: I have button and when is something wrong i just disable it. And when user mouseover this(disable) button, I show him DIV with a message. Can someone tell me why i cannot call this JS function while button is disabled?

  I have been tasked with migrating an existing mature ASP.NET 2.0 web site to NHibernate, Mono and MySQL or postgres. I am somewhat confused as how the membership provider salts the passwords. If I make the switch and use the MySQL membership provider (outlined in this question) or AspSqlProvider, will the existing users be able to login? I guess it would be easier for me to ask: How the hell do I get access to the encryption key used by the ASP.NET membership provider that salts the passwords so that I can use the same one in a third party provider?

  Hi I have scenario, where there are html hidden fields, the page can be redirected to itself, with parameters, I have sessions too. Now depending on session value I want to set some hidden values, so that it can be picked up from javascript and can do certain operation. But, the problem is I have no idea about how to get/ set values into html controls using asp.net, and also do not know whether this is possible or not. Please note, it is imperative that I need some way to hold some data that can be set using asp.net and can be picked up by javascript.   I haveasp:GridView displaying client requests using asp:SqlDataSource. I want to limit displayed information by client: View.aspx has to display everything, View.aspx?client=1 has to display only requests from client ID #1. So I'm using <asp:QueryStringParameter Name="client" QueryStringField="client" /> for query "EXEC getRequests @client". Everything works properly when some client is specified. But don't - if not. I tested my SP using SSMS - it works properly in both cases - when parameter is specified and when it isn't (NULL passed explicitly). What have I do?

  Curious what recommendations anyone has. I have an existing asp.net forms application that does a Forms Authentication and has identity impersonate turned on. The application has a link to a questionnaire that I would like to develop separately in an asp.net MVC application, but I don't want the users to click on the link and be prompted for a username and password, I would like them to be able seamless start filling out the questionnaire. Is there a way to somehow transfer authentication from one .net app to another? I would like to be able to pass stuff like UserRole. What's the best way to do this?

  Hi I want to create contact form with SSL. I have created simple asp.net contact form without ssl and now i must add it. It is in Sharrepoint project but seems to be the same case as in asp.net form. I have anonymous webapplication and won't be any login usecase, so whole webapplication must work via http:// but when user go to contact form, it must work via https:// I know how to do the redirect to https:// programatically, I've been searching how to configure SSL on IIS but it seems to not be the case?? I don't wont whole webappliation to work via https, only my contact form - how to do that and how o onfigure that? The data from my form will be passed to database, but it is not important here.

  I am trying to learn Asp.net MVC framework. I was looking at the video tutorial at the link below http://www.asp.net/learn/mvc-videos/video-395.aspx In this video the very first step is to add a new database to the example application. I have visual studio installed on my development machine but the SqlServer Express is running on a different machine, so when I try and add a new database following the same steps as the video I get the following error "Connections to SQL Server files(*.mdf) require SQL express 2005 to funciton properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the url" I am assuming this is because Visual studio is looking for an instance of SQL express on my local machine and since it doesnt exist on the local machine,it errors out. So how do i tell visual studio, to connect to a different machine and create the database there? I am using Visual studio 2008 with .net 3.5 Sp1

  The code below spawns the process and sits forever, never finishing. It doesn't matter what process I run. Also, if I use Shell with Wait it does the same thing.   I am trying to deploy my ASP.NET Application which is currently running on Windows Server 2003 32bit and IIS6 to a new Server running Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS7. My application uses ASP.NET version 4.0 and is working fine on 2003 machine. My problem is: I have deployed the application and it is working fine except that the .flv video is not playing in browser I have added all required mime settings but still no luck when i try to run the video i don't get any error just a blank screen showing no video. Same configuration is working on previous machine and the new server is also able to play the video when run from the earlier machine. Please if you have any solution help me out.

  I have an ASP.NET page with a jQuery dialog that is displayed to change some data. I am setting up the jQuery dialog so that when the user clicks the OK button it calls ASP.NET's Page_ClientValidate('validationGroup') via javascript, finds all the invalid controls and changes their CSS class. So here's the scenario: the user opens the dialog, keys in some invalid data, clicks OK (receiving the validation messages), and then clicks Cancel. Now the dialog is closed, but the validation messages are still there, so that when they open the dialog again, the data goes back to the way it was initially, but the form is still in the invalid state (the validation messages are still displaying). What I need is a "reset" function of sorts to call after calling Page_ClientValidate('validationGroup'). Does this exist?

  I would like to test my web app in other browsers. I have installed Virtual PC to do just that. the ASP.NET development server does not allow remote connections so the virtual pc (another computer on the network) cannot access the website. I found this post that was started but there was no solution. I understand that using localhost will not work. I heard about using the machines ip, but how do I get that correct ip? Look at my lynksys router admin? If I were to get as far as getting my IP, im sure that the asp.net dev server does not allow remote connections. How do I enable it to do so?

I've tried but I'm struggling to get it to work. I did this simply because I needed multiple sites on port 80 on localhost, and the website I'm developing is not suited to PHP.   Okay so given a LinkButton inside a the ItemTemplate of a Repeater declared like this - <asp:LinkButton ID="restrictionDelete" runat="server" CssClass="restrictionDelete" Text="Delete..." OnCommand="lnkDeleteRestriction_Command" CommandName="Delete" CommandArgument="<%# Container.DataItem %>"></asp:LinkButton> Now,..the repeater is being bound to a list of Restriction objects so when the lnkDeleteRestriction_Command is fired I'm expecting that I can cast the CommandEventArgs.CommandArgument which is an object to my Restriction type. This doesn't seem to be so,..I just get the fully qualified type name as a string. Can I receive a typed command argument at all and if not, why is it an object? Thanks in advance,
