  • I'm tired of JButtons, how can I make a nicer GUI in java ?

    So far I've only build "small" graphical applications, using swing and JComponents as I learned at school. Yet I can't bear ugly JButtons anymore. I've tried to play with the different JButton methods, like changing colors, putting icons etc. but I'm still not satisfied. How do you make a nicer GUI in java ? I'm looking for not-too-heavy alternatives (like, without big frameworks or too complicated libraries).

In this login i call the loogout() client side from hyperlink: Sys.Services.AuthenticationService.logout(null,onLogoutCompleted,null,null); return false; My Webservice make : [WebMethod] public void Logout() { FormsAuthentication.SignOut(); } logout work but my page make one big postback.     Hi, I'm working on a hash function which gets a string as input. Right now I'm doing a loop and inside the hash (an int variable) is being multiplied by a value and then the ASCII code for the current character is added to the mix. hash = hash * seed + string[i] But sometimes, if the string is big enough there is an integer overflow there, what can I do to avoid it while maintaining the same hash structure? Maybe a bit operation included inside the loop?

    I am developing a Delphi documents management application, so somehow I am giving the user some functionality similar to windows explorer. I would like to know if there is a way to get the preview used by windows explorer. For example windows explorer creates a small thumbnail for a pdf document for example, and displays it when the user chooses to view "big icons". Is there a way to retrieve that preview?     I was hoping it was as easy as referencing my existing libraries to use them with WP7. However, it complains about not able to load them because of .Net CF when I actually use them. Do i need to recompile them to .NET CF or something? I thought the big plus of WP7 was: leveraging your existing codebase...? How can I leverage my existing codebase if I need to strip everything out of it and maintain multiple versions?

  • WPF windows locked when calling webservice. Even when run asynchronously

    Hi there. I'm having a big problem when calling a web service from my WPF application. The application/window locks until the process has completed. I've attempted to run this asynchronously but the problem still persists. Currently, the web service call I'm making can last 45-60 seconds. It runs a process on the server to fetch a big chunk of data. As it take a little while I wanted to have a progress bar moving indeterminately for the user to see that the application hasn't stalled or anything (you know how impatatient they get). I can partially store it in a temp table and store last readed position, so when connection is reestablished I can request continue uploading of file from this position.
