• web.config inheritance problem

  Hello everyone, I am having an issue when I try and prevent inhertiance from a parent web.config down to a child specifically related to the node. My parent web.config contains about a dozen appSettings values while my child web.config contains none. Now, I originally began wrapping around only my system.net, web, etc nodes however when I ran my child application I recieved the following error: The configuration section 'appSettings' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration I really wasn't sure what this meant and a google search didn't yield me any decent results so I attempted to move the location node to also encompass the field in my parent web.config but to no avail. My child web.config is pretty vanilla so I am not sure what the problem is. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.   I am using a RHEL 5.5 on my PC. I was playing around with chmod and chown. suddenly my home folder become read-only. all the folders in /home/goutham/, where goutham is username, became read-only. • ASP.NET 3.5 Web Site stopped importing System namespace by default

  I have a VB Web Site project that has recently (and mysteriously) stopped importing the "System" namespace by default. I'm having to either place a "Imports System" line at the top of each code behind, or preface everything with "System", which is fairly annoying, not to mention redundant. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the System namespace back to being imported by default. I've already checked to see that WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\web.config contains the <add namespace="System"/> line--it does. That was my best lead. I'm tearing my hair out. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  I have an old r51 which i boot off usb. Apparently, if i have a toshiba 2gb thumbdrive similar to this plugged in, or an old imation 1gb drive plugged in, it won't boot at all- it freezes in the bios loading screen until its unplugged. I need to try it on another system but i'm wondering what could be causing it- since i suppose this is at a lower level than filesystem, and the drives work fine otherwise - even being readable if inserted after the system is booted from another source, with neither drive plugged in

• Windows System shows wrong amount of RAM?

  I just got an ASUS 1005HA and immediately upgraded it to 2GB of RAM. However, when I open up the Windows System Dialog, it says their is only .99GB of RAM. CPU-Z sees the whole 2GB though. Anybody know what's going on here? EDIT: The BIOS also reports the correct amount of memory in the system.

• Change Emacs Default Coding System

  My problem stems from Emacs inserting the coding system headers into source files containing non-ascii characters: # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- My coworkers do not like these headers being checked into our repositories. I don't want them inserted into my files because Emacs automatically detects that the file should be UTF-8 regardless so there doesn't seem to be any benefit to anyone. I would like to simply set Emacs to use UTF-8 automatically for all files, yet it seems to disagree with this idea. In an effort to fix this, I've added the following to my .emacs: (prefer-coding-system 'utf-8) (setq coding-system-for-read 'utf-8) (setq coding-system-for-write 'utf-8) This does not seem to solve my problem. Emacs still inserts the coding-system headers into my files. Anyone have any ideas? EDIT: I think this problem is specifically related to ruby-mode. I still can't turn it off though.

• My system show extremely hot processor temperature

  I've build a small miniITX system with Pentium 4 processor. It works fine but there's extremely hot temperature is shown by the CPU sensor, around 120 C. Of course this is causing the fan run extremely fast as well making the whole system very loud. I tried to touch the CPU radiator but it is very cool so this should be some kind of error.   I've always been curious about How exactly the process looks in memory? What are the different segments(parts) in it? How exactly will be the program (on the disk) & process (in the memory) are related? I'm quoting this section here: Courious to see the real layout of process segment? We can use /proc//maps file to reveal it. is the PID of the process we want to observe. Before we move on, we have a small problem here. Our test program runs so fast that it ends before we can even dump the related /proc entry. I use gdb to solve this. You can use another trick such as inserting sleep() before it calls return(). • What is 'FizzBuzz' for system administrators?

  FizzBuzz is a simple test of programing ability, often used by employers to weed out people who can't actually program. Is there an equivalent test for system administrators and general IT guys? Clarification I'm looking for things that can be tested in an interview setting with some accuracy. Obviously, this isn't going to clearly determine the right person, just as FizzBuzz doesn't for programmers. I'm just looking to weed out people who think they can work as a system administrator/IT Person because they can surf the web.

• Import Namespace System.Query

  I am trying to load Linq on my .Net 3.5 enabled web server by adding the following to my .aspx page: <%@ Import Namespace="System.Query" %> However, this fails and tells me it cannot find the namespace. The type or namespace name 'Query' does not exist in the namespace 'System' I have also tried with no luck: System.Data.Linq System.Linq System.Xml.Linq I believe that .Net 3.5 is working because var hello = "Hello World" seems to work. Can anyone help please? Cheers, Stephen PS: I just want to clarify that I don't use Visual Studio, I simple have a Text Editor and write my code directly into .aspx files.
