• Redimming arrays in VBA

  I have 3 arrays of data, that are filled by reading off of an excel sheet, some of the points of data are missing and as such have just been entered into excel as "NA" so I want to look through my array and find each instance of these NA's and remove them from the array since the information is useless. I need to update all three arrays at the same time.   I have a list of objects. Each object has an integer quantity and a DateTime variable which contains a month and year value. I'd like to traverse the list and pad the list by adding missing months (with quantity 0) so that all consecutive months are represented in the list. What would be the best way to accomplish this? • memory alignment issues with union

  Hi all, Is there guarantee, that memory for this object will be properly aligned if we create this object of this type in stack? union my_union { int value; char bytes[4]; }; If we create char bytes[4] in stack and then try to cast it to integer there might be alignment problem. We can avoid that problem by creating it in heap, however, is there such guarantee for union objects? Logically there should be, but I would like to confirm. Thanks.

The data is stored in a table that looks like this: CREATE table sales_data ( sales_time timestamp , sales_amt double ) I need to write parameterized queries that will allow me to do the following: Return the change in sales_amt between times t2 and t1, where t2 and t1 are separated by a time interval (integer) of N. This query will allow for querying for weekly changes in sales (for example). Return the change in change of sales_amt between times t2 and t1, and time t3 and t4. Thats is to calculate the value (val(t2)-val(t1)) - (val(t4)-val(t3)). where t2 and t1 are separated by the same time interval (interval N) as the interval between t4 and t3. This query will allow for querying for changes in weekly changes in sales (for example).

I want to fetch array of values of a single column in a table, for example, I have a table named Customer(ID,Name), and want to fetch ids of all customers. my query in LINQ is: var ids = db.Customers.Select(c=>c.ID).ToList(); The answer of this query is correct, but I ran SQL Server Profiler, and saw the query which was like this: SELECT [t0].[ID], [t0].[Name] FROM [dbo].[Customer] AS [t0] I understood that LINQ selects all columns and then creates the integer array of ID fields. How can I write a LINQ query which generates this query in SQL Server: SELECT [t0].[ID] FROM [dbo].[Customer] AS [t0] Thank you.

  I am trying to eval() a json having speacial characters - 
 and getting "unterminated string literal" error in Firefox 3.5.9 Although the same works fine on IE. 7. I have set the character encoding to UTF-8 in both the browsers. Any idea why its an error in FF? Also right before converting the String to JSON, I ran this code in java String jsonString = //some json string having

I've removed the entry for 403 in IIS (7.0) as a desperate last attempt and unsuprisingly that made no difference. I've run out of ideas now so any suggestions will be gratefully appreciated!

  Hi folks, For my trading program, a Merchant object has a qualities HashMap of enumerated Qualities with Boolean values. public class Merchants { private Map<Qualities, Boolean> qualities = new HashMap<Qualities, Boolean>(); I would like to give each Merchant object a further ratedQualities HashMap of True Qualities with Byte or Integer values representing the Rating of those Qualities. For example, a given Merchant could have a "1" Rating associated with their True Stockbroking Quality. The problem is Java does not let me do this easily. The following code demonstrates my intentions but doesn't compile: private Map<qualities-TRUE, Byte> ratedQualities = new HashMap<qualities-TRUE, Byte>(); According to this link text one solution is to create a Wrapper for the qualities HashMap.   Guidelines for code-golf on SO We've all seen phone numbers that are put into words: 1-800-BUY-MORE, etc. What is the shortest amount of code you can write that will produce all the possible combinations of words for a 7 digit US phone number. Input will be a seven digit integer (or string, if that is simpler), and assume that the input is properly formed. Output will be a list of seven character strings that For instance, the number 428-5246 would produce GATJAGM GATJAGN GATJAGO GATJAHM GATJAHN GATJAHO and so on..... Winning criteria will be code from any language with the fewest characters that produce every possible letter combination. Additional Notes: To make it more interesting, words can be formed only by using the letters on a North American Classic Key Pad phone with three letters per number as defined here.That means that Z and Q are excluded. For the number '1', put a space. For the number '0', put a hyphen '-' Bonus points awarded for recognizing output as real English words. Okay, not really. ;-)

  The input XML tag must be validated for a pattern which is like this: type : positive int / decimal, minimum length is 0, max length is 12(before decimal point), fraction digits are optional if exist then precision must be 2. This means both positive integer and Decimal numbers(2 digit precision) are allowed. so the acceptable values can be like, null, 0, 0.00, 1234567890, 123456789012, 123456789012.12, invalid values are: 0.000, 1234567890123(13 digits - invalid), The pattern I have designed is: <xs:pattern value="|([0-9]){12}|([0-9]){12}[.][0-9][0-9]"/> The problem with this pattern is, it doesn't allow the number with string-length less than 12, it says "1234567890" is an invalid value, where as it must be allowed!

I have very long integer sequences that look like this (arbitrary length!): 0000000001110002220033333 Now I need some algorithm to convert this string into something compressed like a9b3a3c3a2d5 Which means "a 9 times, then b 3 times, then a 3 times" and so on, where "a" stands for 0, "b" for 1, "c" for 2 and "d" for 3. How would you do that? So far nothing suitable came to my mind, and I had no luck with google because I didn't really know what to search for. What is this kind of encoding / compression called? PS: I am going to do the encoding with PHP, and the decoding in JavaScript.

• What's the reason both Image and Bitmap classes don't implement a custom equality/hashcode logic?

  From MSDN documentation, it seems as both GetHashCode() and Equals() haven't been overriden in Bitmap. Neither have them been overriden in Image. So both classes are using the Object's version of them just compares references. I wasn't too convinced so I decided to fire up Reflector to check it out. It seems MSDN is correct in that matter. So, is there any special reason why MS guys wouldn't implement "comparison logic", at least for the Bitmap class? I find it is kinda acceptable for Image, as it is an abstract class, but not so much for the Bitmap class. I can see in a lot of situations calculating the hash code can be an expensive operation, but it'd be alright if it used some kind of lazy evaluation (storing the computed hash code integer in a variable a variable, so it wouldn't have to calculate it later again). When wanting to compare 2 bitmaps, will I have to resort to having to run all over the picture comparing each one of its pixels? Thanks

• What is a practical, real world example of the Linked List?

  I understand the definition of a Linked List, but how can it be represented and related to a common concept or item? For example, inheritance in OOP can be related to automobiles. All (most) automobiles in real life are the essentially same thing; an automobile has an Engine, you can start() it, you can make the car go(), stop() and so on. An automobile would typically have a maximum passenger capacity but it would differ between a Bus and a SportsCar, which are both automobiles. Is there some real life, intuitive example of the plain ole' singly Linked List like we have with inheritance? The typical textbook Linked List example shows a node with an integer and a pointer to the next, and it just doesn't seem very useful. Your input is appreciated.

• How to Cache image when src is some action which returns image?

  There are lots of questions about how to force the browser to cache or not to cache any image. But, I am facing slightly different situation. In several places of my web page, I am using following code for the images. <img title="<%= Html.Encode(Model.title)%>" src="<%= Url.Action(MVC.FrontEnd.Actions.RetrieveImage(Model.SystemId))%>"/> So, in the generated HTML it is like <img title="blahblah" src="http://xyz.com/FrontEnd/Actions/RetrieveImage?imageId=X"> Where X is some integer. I have seen that though the browser (IE or Mozilla) caches images by default, it is not caching images generated by above method. Is there any way I can tell browser to cache images of above type? • calculate intersection between two segments in a symmetric way

  When using the usual formulas to calculate intersection between two 2D segments, ie here, if you round the result to an integer, you get non-symmetric results. That is, sometimes, due to rounding errors, I get that intersection(A,B)!=intersection(B,A). The best solution is to keep working with floats, and compare the results up to a certain precision. However, I must round the results to integers after calculating the intersection, I cannot keep working with floats. My best solution so far was to use some full order on the segments in the plane, and have intersection to always compare the smaller segment to the larger segment. Is there a better method? Am I missing something?
